- Chapter 15 - I Will Stay the Night Here
Wen Shiqing dismissed the disciples, turned his back to the villa gate, and let out a gentle sigh.
Just a moment ago, he had asked System 00 to investigate what exactly had transpired between the disciples and Xie Yuan. Naturally, he saw clearly how that group of disciples had humiliated Xie Yuan, and how they had subsequently been beaten by Xie Yuan to the point that even their own mothers would not recognize them.
From this, he analyzed two distinct points. First, Xie Yuan had begun cultivating the ghost path five years earlier than he did in the novel. Second, the obedient and sensible Xie Yuan in his eyes had never existed from the very beginning.
Having experienced such a horrific childhood, any obedience Xie Yuan displayed was entirely for self-preservation. In reality, Xie Yuan was a vengeful person, a wolf in sheep’s clothing who excelled at playing a harmless weakling. Looking at it this way, it made perfect sense why the grown-up version of Xie Yuan in that illusion had behaved that way.
The more he thought about it, the more he felt a chill run down his spine. Yet, Wen Shiqing could not bring himself to truly despise Xie Yuan. Or rather, instead of hatred, he felt that Xie Yuan’s personality was entirely understandable given the circumstances.
After all, if Xie Yuan had not cultivated the ghost path and possessed this vengeful nature, he would only have been subjected to repeated bullying, like today, by the Wentian Sect disciples who envied his status as a personal disciple. However, he had to pay special attention to the fact that the boy had started cultivating the ghost path ahead of schedule. According to 00, Xie Yuan’s current body and mind were not yet strong enough to bear an excessive amount of ghost qi. Cultivating the ghost path five years early was likely a butterfly effect caused by Wen Shiqing taking advantage of loopholes in the plot, which could result in an accident.
With his thoughts reaching this point, Wen Shiqing suppressed his doubts regarding those illusions and pushed open the villa gate.
Adjusting his expression into one of disgust, he spoke. “I have only been away for half a month, yet you have already caused such trouble for me. How truly unlucky.”
He walked gracefully past Xie Yuan to the stone table, sat down, and picked up the teacup. Sensing its coldness, his face instantly turned freezing. “You have been in the courtyard for so long, yet you have not even brewed a pot of hot tea for me. Have you completely forgotten all the words I said and the demands I made of you in the beginning?!”
Xie Yuan snapped out of his thoughts.
He wondered if the man truly just wanted him to brew tea. Not only had the man refrained from harming him just now, but he also made no mention of punishing him at all, asking only for tea. Was it because of Xiao Heng that the man treated him so well, or was it, even if just a little bit, for him?
The moment this thought arose, a strange warmth bloomed within his chest once more. Xie Yuan closed his eyes to suppress the smile that inexplicably threatened to curl his lips, then reached out to take the tea tray away. “I am sorry, Master. I will go and prepare it immediately.”
Once the freshly brewed tea was served, Xie Yuan stood obediently to the side with his head bowed. He showed absolutely none of the ruthlessness he had displayed when he nearly choked Zhang Ping to death in the images the system had shown Wen Shiqing.
“Have you looked at the sword techniques and fist arts I gave you?”
“I have.”
“Perform them for me.”
Xie Yuan’s eyelashes trembled slightly, but he still nodded submissively. Then, standing before Wen Shiqing, he executed the fist arts from beginning to end.
Wen Shiqing set down his teacup the moment Xie Yuan finished, stepped forward, and grabbed the boy by the arm. The two stood quite close to each other. Xie Yuan could almost smell the faint, cold fragrance lingering on Wen Shiqing.
“Master…”
“The movements are not fluid enough.”
Spiritual energy circulated within Wen Shiqing’s palm as he patted Xie Yuan’s arm, shoulder, chest, and waist, quietly clearing all the meridians that had become congested due to Xie Yuan’s recent eager and rushed cultivation. He only let go after the pain caused sweat to bead on Xie Yuan’s brow.
“Do it again. Practice until I am satisfied.” Maintaining his cold facade, Wen Shiqing sat back down to drink his tea and said, “You cannot even execute such a simple fist technique well. You are truly useless.”
Xie Yuan was sweating profusely from the pain, but it was immediately followed by a delightful sense of clarity as the blockages were completely swept away. Dark currents swirled within his pitch-black eyes as he stared intently at Wen Shiqing’s face, the bizarre hypothesis in his mind growing more intense. He wanted to ask Wen Shiqing if treating him this well was entirely for Xiao Heng’s sake, or if a small part of it was because of him, Xie Yuan, as an individual.
However, the words reached his lips only to be forced back down. After all, if these words provoked Wen Shiqing into a furious rage and resulted in his punishment, he would not only lose these stolen kindnesses but also render all his recent efforts in cultivating the ghost path entirely in vain. Thus, he restrained these absurd speculations once more and repeatedly practiced the fist and sword techniques exactly as Wen Shiqing instructed.
Meanwhile, Wen Shiqing continued to scold him on the surface while actually providing meticulous guidance. After several hours, Xie Yuan felt as though his strength had advanced to a new stage, and many of his perplexities were easily resolved.
Before they knew it, the evening glow painted the horizon red. Wen Shiqing, who had filled himself with water once again, felt that his guidance was complete and intended to return home. However, he suddenly heard 00’s reminder in his ear: [Host, do not forget what I told you before. You occasionally stay the night at Xie Yuan’s residence, and you even climb into his bed to do this and that to him. Since you are using loopholes to avoid doing that to him, you must at least stay over in his room occasionally. Otherwise, if the main system discovers that you broke your character design, both of us will suffer the consequences.]
[I almost forgot about this perverted character design.]
Consequently, Wen Shiqing’s backside, which he had finally managed to lift, plopped right back into its original spot. Under Xie Yuan’s searching gaze, he spoke in a cold voice. “Heng’er accepted a sect mission the day before yesterday and is currently not within the sect. Therefore, tonight, I will stay the night here.”
Xie Yuan pursed his lips. So, it was only because Xiao Heng was absent that he came to this place. “Very well, Master. I will go and tidy up the room immediately.”
“There is no need.” Wen Shiqing delivered the next sentence with a mix of shame and icy detachment. “I can just share a room with you.”
Xie Yuan’s heart leaped violently. His fingers curled, and only after a long silence did, he softly reply, “All right.”
