The Aloof Immortal Venerable is Pregnant with My Fox Cub - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Cang Ran was sulking by the creek, washing her dusty fox fur.
Tan Qingxuan was really petty. What was wrong with her inhaling a little human essence?
In return for saving her life, she hadn’t even asked Tan Qingxuan to help her solve her heat period.
If she wanted to kiss Tan Qingxuan, Tan Qingxuan, being the grateful type, should allow her to kiss her, right?
Too much, too much. The more she thought about it, the more unbalanced she felt, wishing she could rush over right now and give Tan Qingxuan a fierce kiss.
Endurance brings calm, but retreating makes one angrier the more they think about it.
Cang Ran was in a bad mood, and her three large tails angrily slapped the creek water.
In her fit of temper, she forgot that her cultivation was now advanced, and the fish in the creek couldn’t withstand her abuse.
Several fat fish were stunned by the tail swats infused with magical power, flying erratically in mid-air, glistening silver, and then plop-plop, they landed stuck between the creek stones.
Sorry, little fishes. I promise not to slap the water randomly next time.
Cang Ran collected the fish. She remembered that apart from the meat porridge this morning, Tan Qingxuan hadn’t eaten anything else.
A person will starve to death if they don’t eat for a day, but Tan Qingxuan had just thrown her onto the floor, so why should she care if she starved?
Cang Ran drooped her head, irritably rubbed her fox ears, and rolled over on the stone she was lying on.
One thing at a time. Tan Qingxuan was still injured. Why was she getting angry at a patient? It made her look petty.
But if she had just finished being angry and immediately grilled the fish and sent it over, she would lose too much face.
Cang Ran debated for a long time, gritting her back teeth, and resignedly went to grill the fish.
One of the three fish was burnt, so she recycled it to the little hedgehog. She wrapped the remaining two golden-grilled fish and had the little hedgehog deliver them to Tan Qingxuan.
Cang Ran instructed the little hedgehog repeatedly, “If she asks you, you can’t say I made it. Say you made it, and supervise her until she finishes eating. Got it?”
The little hedgehog scratched its head, looking at its short little paws, wondering when it had learned to grill fish.
“Okay, Great King.”
The little hedgehog obeyed and quickly delivered the grilled fish to Tan Qingxuan’s table.
It was solemn, imitating the Great King’s usual tone. “The Great King told me to supervise you until you finish eating!”
Tan Qingxuan smelled the aroma of the grilled fish and looked up. “What else did your Great King say?”
The little hedgehog thought for a moment. “Our Great King said that the fish wasn’t grilled by her; it was grilled by me. Hurry up and eat.”
This idiot little demon…
A faint smile crossed Tan Qingxuan’s eyes. She didn’t pick up her chopsticks. “I’m not hungry yet. You can go back first. Tell your Great King I’m sorry, and thank the person who grilled this fish.”
The little hedgehog thought that if Tan Qingxuan wasn’t hungry, it probably couldn’t force her to eat, so it returned and repeated the exact words to Cang Ran.
Cang Ran’s three fiery red fox tails angrily thrashed back and forth. Her fox fur bristled with anger.
Just one “I’m sorry” and she thinks she can appease me? Do I look like that cheap of a fox?
The little hedgehog saw Cang Ran’s unhappiness and offered a suggestion. “Great King, why don’t I tie this human up?”
Cang Ran was annoyed. “Why tie her up?”
The little hedgehog was eager to try. “This human has upset the Great King. Tie her up and scare her, let her know the Great King’s power, so she won’t dare to look down on demons anymore.”
Cang Ran flicked the little hedgehog’s head. “You? Scare her? If she were that easy to scare, I wouldn’t like her.”
The little hedgehog was surprised. “The Great King likes her? I’ll help the Great King tie her to the bed!”
Cang Ran rubbed her fox face. “Does this Great King need to tie someone up if she wants to woo them?”
The little hedgehog was excited. “Great King, what is wooing? Is it a new kind of human? I’ll go catch one for the Great King!”
Cang Ran rubbed her forehead and waved him away. “Enough, go play somewhere else.”
The little hedgehog was dismissed. Cang Ran was alone, swaying gently in a hammock with her eyes half-closed, her large tail casually swatting away mosquitoes.
It wasn’t until night fell and the twilight mist gathered that she got up from the hammock and looked up at the sky.
The moon was dim tonight. Not suitable for cultivation, but perfect for a deep sleep.
Tan Qingxuan must be asleep by now, right? If she went back secretly, Tan Qingxuan certainly wouldn’t know, so it wouldn’t count as her being the one to seek reconciliation first.
Cang Ran collected her emotions and ran up to the cave dwelling on the mountain.
There was no candlelight in the cave dwelling; it was pitch black. Cang Ran tiptoed, slowing her steps.
She walked to the bedside but found no one on the bed.
Strange. Tan Qingxuan wasn’t resting her injury in bed. Where did she wander off to?
Cang Ran’s large tail impatiently swished back and forth. Her nose twitched, sniffing the air.
Found her. Tan Qingxuan was at the small table.
Tan Qingxuan was resting her forehead on her hand, asleep by the table. The grilled fish she had sent over tonight was still on the table.
The grilled fish hadn’t been touched at all. Was she waiting for me to come back to eat together, and waited until she fell asleep?
If I hadn’t come back tonight, was Tan Qingxuan planning to sleep slumped over the table all night?
Cang Ran’s parents divorced when she was little. She lived with her mother at her grandmother’s house, but her mother didn’t like her either, playing mahjong every day. Aside from asking about her grades, she offered no concern.
She had become accustomed to being ignored, accustomed to not being waited for or given attention. But today, Tan Qingxuan was willing to wait for her, which significantly diluted her original small feelings of grievance.
She couldn’t help but approach Tan Qingxuan. Tan Qingxuan’s features were picturesque. Even in her sleep, she was cool and ethereal. Her lips were always slightly pursed, looking like someone with a highly restrained and proper character.
Cang Ran hesitated, then slipped her hands under Tan Qingxuan’s shoulders and behind her knees, lifting her up.
So light. This person felt like a soft, fluffy white cloud, making her reluctant to let go once she held her.
She had intended to carry the person to the bed, but she felt her collar suddenly being clutched, and the person in her arms moved slightly.
Cang Ran couldn’t help but hold her breath. She asked softly, “Are you awake?”
Tan Qingxuan softly hmm-ed. Her voice sounded a little hoarse. “Mm. Put me down.”
She had planned to cultivate as usual, but today she couldn’t enter meditation no matter what, so she rested slumped over the table, falling asleep by accident.
She only woke up when Cang Ran lifted her.
Cang Ran didn’t let go. “Wait a moment. I’m going to carry you to the bed to sleep.”
Tan Qingxuan pushed away her shoulder, her tone returning to normal. “No need.”
Seeing her so aloof, a hint of stubbornness suddenly arose in Cang Ran. If Tan Qingxuan didn’t want her to do something, she would deliberately do it.
She purposely didn’t let go until she placed Tan Qingxuan on the bed. Then she lay down beside her, pressing very close.
She waited for a long time, thinking Tan Qingxuan would surely be angry.
But Tan Qingxuan lay in bed, still like a clear breeze and a bright moon, without a single ripple of emotion.
Cang Ran couldn’t bear the silence. She propped up her chin and leaned close to Tan Qingxuan’s ear. “Didn’t you want to apologize to me? You’re right here now, so why aren’t you saying sorry?”
Tan Qingxuan was silent for a moment, then slowly parted her lips. “Cang Ran, what happened today was not intentional on my part. I apologize.”
Tan Qingxuan’s voice was clear and melodious. The sincere apology sounded very pleasant.
She had expected someone like Tan Qingxuan to first debate with her and definitely not apologize face-to-face.
This feeling was like suddenly having her fur stroked. Cang Ran’s mood lifted a little. She tapped her slender finger. “Mm. Since that’s the case, I can forgive you. You need to tell me why you suddenly got angry.”
Tan Qingxuan lowered her gaze, cool and unruffled. “I just wanted to take a good look at you.”
If she just wanted to take a good look at her, then why did her gaze get colder and colder?
Something’s not right. Tan Qingxuan must be lying. But it’s interesting. Would a noble, aloof person like Tan Qingxuan also lie?
Cang Ran deliberately blew a puff of warm air into Tan Qingxuan’s ear, her eyes seductively alluring. “Then tell me, what did you see?”
The warm breath sprayed on Tan Qingxuan’s pale, tender earlobe, causing a faint, light blush to spread across her skin.
Tan Qingxuan’s body trembled slightly. She clenched her hands. “Where did you go today?”
Cang Ran didn’t expect her to ask that all of a sudden. She answered truthfully, “I went out to play with friends.”
Tan Qingxuan gently closed her eyes, avoiding her hot breath. “That’s what I saw.”
A smile bloomed in Cang Ran’s eyes. Her voice was soft and sweet. “That doesn’t count. I told you myself, so it’s not something you figured out.”
Tan Qingxuan didn’t speak again for a moment, and the atmosphere became quiet once more.
Cang Ran thought for a bit and asked curiously, “Are you angry because I went out to play with friends and didn’t take you with me?
My friends are all demons. I was afraid of scaring you, and you are injured and need to rest properly. You can’t wander around.”
Tan Qingxuan said calmly, “I wasn’t angry.” How could she be angry because of a little demon? It was merely a slight discomfort.
Cang Ran truly found it difficult to understand Tan Qingxuan. She wouldn’t say why she was angry, making her guess. She wasn’t a mind-reader.
She picked up a strand of soft, long hair scattered over Tan Qingxuan’s chest and played with it between her fingers. The silky texture and faint sandalwood scent were very pleasing.
She leaned in closer to Tan Qingxuan. “Then how about I take you to Luofeng City to play in a couple of days? I’ll buy you things so you won’t be bored in the cave dwelling.”
Tan Qingxuan pressed down on the hand that was playing with her hair. Her voice was flat. “No need.”
Cang Ran was a little frustrated. She leaned on Tan Qingxuan’s shoulder and asked softly, “Are you truly not bored staying here alone?”
A cultivator’s divine consciousness is very powerful. Even though she couldn’t see in the dark, Tan Qingxuan could feel the clean, sweet fragrance on Cang Ran’s body, her pale, alluring cheek, and the implied coquetry when she leaned close.
Tan Qingxuan’s eyelashes trembled slightly. She pursed her lips. “No. It’s late. I need to rest.”
