- Chapter 45 - Will You Be My Girlfriend?
The cool-toned lighting in the bathroom cast a chilly atmosphere.
Yet the entwined bodies in the bathtub dispelled that coldness, their fiery passion even seeming to raise the temperature around them.
The assistant director and female crew members who stayed behind, though all straight, were visibly affected by the steamy scene. Their faces flushed red, and none dared to glance at each other, afraid their emotions might be noticed and lead to awkwardness.
Finally, the assistant director snapped out of it first. Seeing that the take was good, she quickly called out, “Cut!”
In the bathtub, Tang Jing and Meng Xue promptly separated.
Tang Jing pressed her lips together, her expression stern as she stepped out of the tub. Wrapping herself in the towel handed by her assistant, she moved aside.
If not for her bright red ears, her demeanor might have been mistaken for anger.
Meng Xue, who emerged from the tub after her, wasn’t faring much better her entire face was flushed, made even more obvious by her fair complexion.
The two went to rest on the side while the crew quickly gulped down water to cool off.
After the break, they wrapped up the final scene.
Fu Wen and Su Xiaoran sat in the bathtub, with Su Xiaoran nestled in Fu Wen’s embrace.
Playing with Fu Wen’s fingers, Su Xiaoran asked, “Are you leaving again after this?”
A year ago, after their separation, Fu Wen had gone abroad and only returned a few days prior.
Su Xiaoran had tried to reach her several times during that period but couldn’t find her.
Now that she was back, Su Xiaoran, who had always carried herself with pride, lowered her head slightly. Gripping Fu Wen’s index finger tightly, she murmured in a subdued voice, “I don’t want you to go.”
Fu Wen had missed her terribly while abroad, and hearing her tone now, her heart ached. She pulled Su Xiaoran into a tight embrace, pressing a kiss behind her ear before whispering, “I’m not going anywhere. Let’s get married.”
Three years ago, the country had legalized same-sex marriage.
Su Xiaoran nuzzled her head against Fu Wen’s shoulder affectionately and replied happily, “Okay.”
“Cut!” The female assistant director smiled approvingly at them. “That’s a wrap for today. Take the day off and resume tomorrow.”
“Got it.”
It was already 3 a.m.
Tang Jing and Meng Xue stepped out of the set, greeted by the night breeze that carried away the day’s heat, replacing it with a refreshing coolness.
The hotel wasn’t far from the set, and with their scenes completed, they decided to stroll back leisurely.
Along the way, they passed a food street where a few scattered stalls were still open.
Tang Jing asked, “Want to grab a bite?”
Since they had the next day off, there was no rush to return and rest.
Meng Xue glanced over and nodded.
Following her gaze, Tang Jing spotted a barbecue shop with tables and chairs set up outside. The owner, wearing gloves, was grilling skewers. A table nearby was occupied by four people likely background actors who had just finished work.
When Tang Jing and Meng Xue walked over, the actors noticed them. Though visibly excited, they politely refrained from approaching, simply greeting them from their seats.
Tang Jing and Meng Xue responded with equal ease before finding an empty table to sit at.
Soon, the owner brought over their order.
Sitting across from each other, their eyes occasionally met, and flashes of the scenes they had just filmed flickered through their minds.
Because of this, the atmosphere was a bit awkward now.
Usually, the two of them could chat a little when sitting together, but at this moment, neither spoke a word.
It wasn’t that they didn’t want to talk, it was just that they were too awkward to know what to say.
“Um!” Meng Xue, somewhat shy, looked at her hesitantly, her words trailing off.
Tang Jing set down the skewer in her hand and turned to her. Though her ears were flushed red with shyness, her expression remained composed, her eyes carrying a hint of encouragement.
“Teacher Tang, have you ever thought about finding a partner?” Meng Xue mustered her courage and blurted it out.
Tang Jing froze for a moment, then quickly nodded without even thinking for two seconds. “Yes.” At the same time, a flicker of regret flashed in her eyes, she hadn’t expected her senior to be the one to bring it up first.
“Then, you.” Meng Xue tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, her gaze drifting slightly as she was about to continue, but Tang Jing interrupted her.
“Would you be my girlfriend?”
Meng Xue’s eyes widened as she looked at her. Seeing the firm expression on Tang Jing’s face, she broke into a smile and whispered, “I’d love to.”
Click. Someone hiding behind a tree across the street captured the moment on camera.
