- Chapter 13 - The Covenant Chain
Suddenly, the sound of a shattering glass echoed from the receiver.
Shen Youlin’s expression was dark and terrifying. “Shen Si Xuan, are you provoking me?”
Shen Si Xuan laughed lowly. “Thank you for helping me raise my wife for 26 years, and thank you, Big Brother, for your meticulous discipline of my wife. You allowed us to become each other’s first love.”
Jia Yu had only just recovered from the sound of that loud kiss. Hearing this, he was consumed by fury. “Who the hell is your first love? A dog like you is not worthy!”
Shen Si Xuan continued, “Also, my wife has already married me. Do not contact him when there is nothing to do, and definitely do not contact him when there is.”
Hearing the word “married,” Shen Youlin felt like smashing his phone. He took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and the veins on his arms bulged. “Fine, Shen Si Xuan, do not blame me for being heartless.”
“He will always be mine. He was born to belong to me, and he will only belong to me.” He wore a cold sneer, his eyes sharp. “Big Brother, do you understand? If you understand, I will hang up. Take care of yourself. Goodbye.”
After hanging up, he wrapped his arms around Jia Yu’s waist. Jia Yu, still in a fit of rage, swung his fist at his face. “What the hell are you spouting!”
Shen Si Xuan turned sideways, caught the fist, used his momentum to his advantage, and hoisted him over his shoulder.
Jia Yu was furious, his face deathly pale. Seeing they were already outside the police station, he felt he had lost all face and hammered his fists against Shen Si Xuan’s back. “Damn it, put me down! Are you not afraid of losing face?”
As if he could not care less, Shen Si Xuan kissed his cheek and slapped Jia Yu on the backside. “Baby, be quiet. You are giving me a headache with all the noise.”
“Get lost, put me down.”
Only when he stood on the ground did Shen Jia Yu feel a sense of security. It was then he realized everyone on the street was staring at them.
Even more terrifying was the next moment: everyone on the street lowered their heads and chanted in unison: “Father.”
Jia Yu looked at this scene, somewhat shocked. “Do they all know you?”
Shen Si Xuan laughed. “Baby, do you want everyone to know you, too?”
“Not interested.” He had had enough of living under surveillance; he desperately hoped no one would pay him any attention.
Seeing Si Xuan pulling him toward the village again, he felt a massive headache coming on. “Shen Si Xuan, just let me go. If you wanted to take revenge, these past few days should have been enough. I really do not want to stay here anymore. You might as well just let me become a monk.”
Shen Si Xuan hugged Jia Yu’s waist and kissed his lips. “How could I bear to?”
Jia Yu pushed him away, gasping for breath. “Can you have some shame? We are in public. Is this appropriate?”
Shen Si Xuan pinched Jia Yu’s face and kissed him again. “Wife, why do you not trust your husband? I am not lying to you; you must continue to stay here.”
Jia Yu: “…”
He inhaled sharply and patted his face. “I am tired of playing along with your acting. You are a top university student; can you stop acting like a lunatic and rambling on all day?”
Shen Si Xuan buried his head in Jia Yu’s neck, letting out a satisfied sigh. “Alright, Wife, everything you say is right. I will listen to you.”
Jia Yu: “…”
How is one supposed to communicate with a freak? I am so desperate!
Dragging him onto the deer carriage, Jia Yu felt truly angry. This dog had actually climbed right over his head. He reached out, grabbed Shen Si Xuan’s throat, and said coldly, “Let me go, or you die here.”
Shen Si Xuan suddenly curled his lips, looking up at Jia Yu.
Jia Yu began to panic; had Shen Si Xuan finally gone mad?
Shen Si Xuan said nothing and tore off Jia Yu’s black windbreaker, revealing the deep purple divine robe underneath.
Jia Yu was shocked and hurriedly said: “What are you doing?!”
Shen Si Xuan said calmly, “Wife, since we are both going to die anyway, we might as well die under the peony flower.”
It was completely unreasonable! It was unthinkable! How could such a person exist in this world? Jia Yu was amazed. It was only when Shen Si Xuan continued to tear at the divine robe underneath that Jia Yu realized he was not joking; he really would do it!
He could not help but exert force with his hand, his eyes pitch black. “You are freaking crazy! We are outside!”
There were many black robed villagers accompanying the carriage back to the village. Even if they did not speak, Jia Yu could sense their subtle, lingering gaze.
Shen Si Xuan stopped his actions, gently held Jia Yu in his arms, and kissed his hair.
“Wife, be good.”
Back at home, Jia Yu’s emotions spiraled out of control. He destroyed everything in a violent rage; he truly did not want to stay in this broken place.
Shen Si Xuan just watched him quietly from the side. “Wife, this is your home. Your soul belongs here. Why do you not like it? You never had a home in City A to begin with. Shen Youlin and the others are not your family; this is your root, these are your people. Only here can you be whole.”
“Even if I do not have a home, I want to return to City A. Who would want to stay in this broken rural backwater with a bunch of lunatics? I go where I want. What right do you have to keep me here, accompanying you in your feudal superstitions!”
Jia Yu was on the verge of a breakdown. He felt a suffocating sense of pressure, his eyes filled with murderous intent. “You had better pray that I can leave in a month, or I will burn this place to the ground!”
“Wife, do not look at me with those eyes.” Shen Si Xuan kissed Jia Yu’s eyes. “Alright, alright, if you want to go to City A, we will go to City A. If you want to go to City B, we will go to City B. You can go wherever you want. You are free. I will listen to you, okay? If nothing else, you can just drink a bit more of my blood.”
Jia Yu blurted out: “Who the hell is your wife?”
Shen Si Xuan answered without a second thought: “You are my wife.”
“Get lost! Stop daydreaming! A toad wanting to eat swan meat!” Jia Yu had long been disgusted by the constant “Wife” calls. Where did he get the courage to think he could be his wife? It was hilarious.
Letting out a long sigh, Si Xuan finally said: “Have you forgotten what you promised me when you escaped from the mental hospital? I nearly lost my life for you back then.”
Seeming to find that piece of existence-less memory in a corner of his mind, Jia Yu answered coldly: “So what? Do not think that just because you saved my life, I have to give myself to you. At the worst, I will just return this life to you.”
Shen Si Xuan’s smile was somewhat pale. “Shen Jia Yu, do you really not have a shred of me in your heart? Why are you so cruel to me?”
Fury surged. Jia Yu grabbed a fruit knife and roared at him: “Are you speaking human language? Otherwise, do you think that after you topped me, I would still let you live? I would have stabbed you to death long ago!”
Shen Si Xuan’s expression was solemn. “Then just stab me to death. Even if I become a ghost, I will not let you go. I will haunt you day and night, so that every inch of your body is branded with my name.”
He approached Jia Yu step by step; the air pressure was so low it felt like ice was forming.
Jia Yu screamed desperately: “Are you crazy! One more step, and I really will stab you!”
Shen Si Xuan wore a cold, thin smile. “Shen Jia Yu, I have long said that everything I have belongs to you, including my life. Since you do not believe my promise, then I will pay the debt for you.”
His hair stood on end. Jia Yu held the knife, his fingertips turning white, veins bulging, his hands trembling. Seeing Shen Si Xuan walking closer and closer, as if he could not see the blade, he approached step by step.
Shen Si Xuan grasped Jia Yu’s trembling hand that held the knife and pulled it in front of his own face, the cold blade shimmering. He extended the tip of his tongue, stared into Jia Yu’s eyes, and licked the blade, slowly licking from the bottom to the tip. Finally, with a curved smile, he pressed the tip of the knife against his own abdomen.
