Take Away My Sickly Beauty [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 31
Sana’s cooking ability compared to Keno’s was like heaven and earth.
Using the same salt and climbing-lizard meat, the meat broth Sana prepared was incredibly delicious. Keno held the bowl tightly, taking small sips of the broth. The explosion of meaty aroma and freshness on her palate made her squint her eyes in delight.
She originally hadn’t wanted to drink it. This climbing lizard was too small; it wouldn’t even make two meals for Sana alone, let alone sharing a bowl with her. But the meat Sana simmered was just too fragrant! It was so good that Keno unconsciously made purring noises, looking like a satisfied cat.
She used to eat climbing-lizard meat often, but it had always been mediocre at most, just a bit more tender than other meats. Keno looked at the bowl, where less than half of the soup and meat remained, and her beast-like pupils shrunk. She didn’t think she had taken such big gulps. How… how was a bowl of meat almost gone already?!
Beside her, Sana, who was holding her own bowl, let out a muffled laugh. She picked up the stone spoon from the pot and, brooking no refusal, scooped a full bowl for Keno.
“Cubs need to eat more to grow quickly,” Sana coaxed her.
In truth, if Keno didn’t want them to be too formal with each other, Sana would have given her most of the meat. After all, Keno was the one who caught the prey. However, Keno didn’t want to draw such clear lines between them. Sana knew in her heart that she had received a kindness, so she worked hard in other areas to make Keno a bit happier.
For instance, with cooking: since Keno liked the food she made, she would make all kinds of delicious things for her in the future. As long as food was sufficient, she wanted to make sure Keno ate as many tasty things as possible.
Thinking of this, Sana suddenly felt a surge of motivation. She couldn’t let the cub keep supporting her forever. After these thoughts, Sana asked Keno, who had her head buried in the bowl as if she wanted to lick it clean: “After we finish moving and the heavy rain stops, can I go hunting with you?”
Although Keno was a small cub, her strength and experience were far greater than Sana’s. Sana was worried she might hold Keno back and felt a bit apprehensive.
“Sure,” Keno said, struggling to pull her face out of the bowl and licking the soup from her lips. “I will protect you.”
The Tabu Tribe area didn’t have high-level jungle predators; Keno was very confident she could take care of her future mate. A smile blossomed on Sana’s lips upon hearing this, and she felt a few more sparks of anticipation for the days following the White Rain Festival.
After extremely conservatively eating two bowls of climbing-lizard meat, Keno ran off to dry the Fluffy Leaves, leaving Sana to fret over the half-pot of meat broth. With her appetite, she really couldn’t finish so much meat, but Keno had insisted on leaving it all for her.
Sana put the unfinished meat and soup into a stone basin, feeling rare gratitude that the White Rain Festival was quite cold; otherwise, the climbing-lizard meat would have rotted and smelled after just one day. By the time Sana put the meat away and washed the pots and bowls, Keno’s Fluffy Leaves were almost finished drying.
Fluffy Leaves themselves didn’t contain much moisture. The entire leaf was huge and thick. Once thoroughly dried, the Fluffy Leaf became spongy and soft, while its outer skin remained very strong and resilient. However, once dried, the Fluffy Leaves could no longer touch water; otherwise, the tough outer skin would crack and peel, revealing the grey fluff inside.
Keno sweated easily, so the Fluffy Leaves in her small nest had to be changed every ten days. Fortunately, there were plenty of Fluffy Leaves in this area, so they didn’t have to worry about running out.
Once the White Rain Festival passed and prey became more abundant, she would go hunt Moon Birds. Moon Birds were massive, with terrifyingly sharp claws and beaks, and their meat was tough and not tasty at all. But their feathers were beautiful. The deep blue gradient feathers could be used not only for clothing but also for bedding.
The powerful orc warriors of the Gryphon Tribe took pride in making a Moon Bird feather garment for their mates. Unfortunately, Sana still believed she was a cub, and Keno had no evidence to prove she was an adult, so she could only hunt Moon Birds to use as bedding for her first. Once they became mates, she would make Sana the most beautiful Moon Bird feather garment!
After covering the bed with two thick layers of Fluffy Leaves, Keno pulled Sana over to let her try lying on them. Sana had been secretly watching Keno work, her curiosity about the Fluffy Leaves growing uncontrollably. So, when Keno pulled her down, she didn’t refuse.
The spongy, soft Fluffy Leaves were compressed by her weight and then bounced back slightly. The soft sensation beneath her made Sana unable to resist rolling around a couple of times. She had only recently reached adulthood; her curiosity and playfulness were still very much present.
Lying on the Fluffy Leaves, a hint of pink flushed across Sana’s pale face from happiness. She spoke excitedly to Keno, who was sitting nearby: “So soft!”
Even the most mature and cold female becomes soft and mellow when faced with soft, fluffy things. These magical leaves were squishy and, because they had just been dried, were dry and warm. Sana lay there and lazily turned over, her eyelids beginning to flutter and fight to stay open.
So sleepy…
Keno’s hands didn’t stop processing the wooden thorns and vines; she was making traps. Before they moved, she had to ensure the wooden house was safe. After all, the heavy rain wouldn’t make her sick, but it was highly likely to make Sana ill.
Hearing Sana’s soft voice, Keno turned her head to look, intending to chat with her seeing her excitement. To her surprise, Sana had turned over, closed her eyes, and fallen asleep instantly.
Keno’s expression turned serious as she calculated that she needed to hunt as soon as possible, and that the stone bed in their new home must be covered with several layers of Fluffy Leaves. Sana was too fragile; not only did she lack energy, but the hard stone bed would also be too uncomfortable for her.
Thinking this, Keno picked up a nearby beast-skin skirt and draped it over the sleeping Sana. As an orc who had survived as an only child until now, Keno’s perception was very keen. She knew Sana was afraid of her leaving and afraid of displeasing her.
Keno didn’t know how the people of the Tabu Tribe had treated Sana to make her so cautious. But she would work hard to make Sana confident. Because Sana needed her this was the first time in Keno’s life that someone actually needed her. There was also someone willing to unconditionally accept her, even though others called her a demon.
Furthermore, she had touched Sana.
Keno’s face burned hot. Although Sana always thought she was a cub and had no reaction to their previous “honest exposure” to one another, every time Keno thought about it, her heart hammered like thunder and her mouth went dry. She seemed to still be able to smell the scent of vegetation on Sana, and feel the soft sensation left on her palms and lips.
Unlike many dark-skinned orcs, Sana was very clean, always keeping her body and hair fresh and fragrant. Keno unconsciously licked her lips.
Snap. The strongest part of the wooden vine was accidentally snapped by her; this trap was a failure. Startled by the sound, Keno dropped the vine as if it were burning hot and covered her face with her hands, groaning.
By the Beast God, what on earth was she thinking!
That soft, weak female was still sleeping soundly beside her; Keno could even see the other’s pale lips slightly parted, exhaling soft breaths.
Damn it!
Keno crouched down, clutching her head, frantically warning herself. Stop thinking about nonsense! Before Sana accepts her as a mate, she absolutely cannot think about these offensive things!
Thinking of this, Keno couldn’t help but feel a surge of sorrow. But when would Sana finally realize that she was already an adult, and of an age where she could have a mate?
Damn this beastification! For the hundredth time, Keno grumbled: why couldn’t she transform into her beast form yet?!
