- Chapter 60 - Spoiled, Spoiled, Spoiled
The airport bustled with people coming and going. Zhou Xuci stepped forward to greet Zhou Xin,
“Mom.”
“Son, long time no see.”
They brushed past each other.
The ignored Zhou Xuci: “…”
I knew it!
Zhou Xin directly bypassed Zhou Xuci and hurried toward Xu Zhizhi.
“Is that Zhizhi?” Zhou Xin smiled so widely that crow’s feet appeared at the corners of her eyes, visibly delighted.
Xu Zhizhi nodded somewhat timidly. “H-hello, Auntie.”
“So pretty.” Zhou Xin immediately grasped Xu Zhizhi’s hand, pulling her closer. “Have you eaten? Have you been waiting long? Are you tired? Should Auntie cook for you? What do you like to eat?”
A barrage of questions left Xu Zhizhi stunned in place.
Zhou Xin’s smile faded slightly upon seeing Xu Zhizhi’s unease. “Am I being too enthusiastic?”
Xu Zhizhi shook her head and offered a small smile. “No, it’s just that I’m not very good with words.”
When she smiled, little dimples appeared.
Sweet.
Zhou Xin was utterly charmed, grinning from ear to ear. “It’s fine, I’m naturally very easygoing.”
With that, she enthusiastically led Xu Zhizhi forward.
Xu Zhizhi glanced back, a confused expression on her face as she looked at Zhou Xuci.
She felt somewhat overwhelmed by Zhou Xin’s sudden and abundant affection.
Zhou Xuci smiled at Xu Zhizhi and shrugged helplessly.
Just like that, Xu Zhizhi was whisked away, leaving Zhou Xuci and Lu Huainan staring at each other with mutual dislike.
Zhou Xuci looked at the pile of luggage and resigned himself to the humble task of hauling it all.
“Did you buy rocks?” Zhou Xuci asked Lu Huainan, struggling with an overweight suitcase.
Lu Huainan shrugged. “Meeting gifts.”
As everyone knew, Zhou Xin valued ceremony, for a first meeting, gifts were an absolute must.
Zhou Xuci turned and watched Zhou Xin and Xu Zhizhi walking away into the distance, a gentle smile blooming in his eyes.
“I heard our Zhizhi studies painting?” Zhou Xin was truly a natural at making others feel at ease.
Xu Zhizhi nodded obediently. “Yes.”
She said “our Zhizhi.”
The affectionate tone instantly bridged the distance between them.
“Such long, well-proportioned fingers, perfect for holding a paintbrush.” Zhou Xin gently touched Xu Zhizhi’s slender fingers.
She then launched into full-on praise mode.
Xu Zhizhi’s ears turned red from the flattery, but she never left any of Zhou Xin’s remarks unanswered.
Back and forth they chatted, thoroughly enjoying each other’s company.
Zhou Xin had a wonderful personality, kind, gentle, and warm. It was clear she had been thoroughly spoiled, treated like a little princess.
And the one who spoiled her was none other than the legendary, fierce Lu Huainan.
Xu Zhizhi never would have imagined that the formidable business titan, President Lu, was actually a henpecked husband, a contrasting cuteness.
President Lu was completely wrapped around her finger, needing only a single glance from Ms. Zhou.
Xu Zhizhi thought to herself, Now this is what I call top-tier “dog-training” literature!
Back when Zhou Xuci was about to attend Jing University, Lu Huainan had without a word paid in full for a 200+ square meter luxury apartment, supposedly just for Zhou Xuci to live in casually.
However, Zhou Xuci wanted to experience university life and had barely stayed there.
This time, with the Lu couple visiting, Zhou Xuci had cleaned the spacious apartment in advance for them to stay in.
In high spirits, Zhou Xin insisted on personally cooking dinner.
Xu Zhizhi repeatedly tried to dissuade her but couldn’t hold her back, so she simply decided to join Zhou Xin in the kitchen.
Zhou Xin refused, shooing Xu Zhizhi out, saying that girls should stay fragrant and not be exposed to cooking fumes.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Xin’s idea of “cooking” was just washing the vegetables, then standing by and bossing Lu Huainan around as he stir-fried.
Xu Zhizhi, still a bit uneasy, hid in a corner to secretly watch the kitchen, ready to step in and help at any moment.
Zhou Xin not only supervised but also nitpicked.
“Lu Huainan, don’t add too much salt.”
“Cook it a bit softer, easier to digest.”
“Our little girl has a sensitive stomach.”
Lu Huainan, with his gentle temper, responded to every comment.
In the kitchen, the couple bustled about together.
Listening to their conversation, Xu Zhizhi felt her eyes grow slightly moist, a warm current flowing through her heart, leaving her deeply touched.
Zhou Xuci walked over and stood beside Xu Zhizhi. “My dad is a great cook,” he said.
“My mom is picky, so he spent a long time learning just for her,” he added.
Taking Xu Zhizhi’s hand, Zhou Xuci led her inside and pushed open a bedroom door.
It was an art studio.
Specially renovated.
Just for Xu Zhizhi to paint in.
“I had the house renovated a few days ago,” Zhou Xuci said, pulling her further inside. “Do you like the style?”
Xu Zhizhi looked at the landscape oil paintings hanging on the walls and the complete set of art supplies, everything clearly prepared with care.
She had always dreamed of having her own art studio.
A space that belonged only to her.
Zhou Xuci wrapped his arms around Xu Zhizhi. “The passcode for this room is your birthday. Come here to paint whenever you want. This place is yours, only yours.”
Xu Zhizhi hugged him back, burying her face in the crook of his neck. “Thank you for giving me a sense of security I’ve never felt before.”
Zhou Xuci lowered his head and kissed her hair. “Baby, I want to give you all the best things in the world.”
Xu Zhizhi looked up, kissed his chin, and smiled, her eyes curving like crescent moons. “Say it again.”
Zhou Xuci played along. “Baby.”
“Zhou Xuci, you’re so obedient,” Xu Zhizhi giggled, hiding her face in his shoulder.
“My dad says a man should listen to his wife,” Zhou Xuci whispered softly in her ear.
Xu Zhizhi’s ears flushed red, and she playfully punched his shoulder. “You’re teasing me again.”
Zhou Xuci caught her hand and kissed the back of it.
“You know, I was so worried yesterday,” Xu Zhizhi confessed her fears. “I was afraid your parents wouldn’t like me. I even imagined them forcing us to break up. My roommates and I were secretly discussing it yesterday.”
“Discussing what?”
“We were guessing that, coming from a wealthy family like yours, your parents might offer me two million to leave you,” Xu Zhizhi said with a pout.
“Two million?” Zhou Xuci shook his head in mock offense. “I’m worth way more than that.”
Xu Zhizhi laughed. “Then how much are you worth?”
“My dad is pretty extravagant,” Zhou Xuci said after a moment of serious thought. “Knowing his mischievous nature, he’d probably quietly offer you twenty million and beg you not to leave his son.”
Xu Zhizhi: “…” Reverse psychology, huh?
“Seriously, my dad is so done with me,” Zhou Xuci added with feigned sadness. “My parents are the real deal, and I’m just accident number two.”
Xu Zhizhi blinked in surprise. “Huh?”
“Number one is my older brother,” Zhou Xuci explained. “We’re both definitely accidents.”
Xu Zhizhi laughed, her dimples deepening. “Zhou Xuci, no wonder you’re so wonderful.”
Growing up surrounded by love, Zhou Xuci had become the gentlest version of himself.
On the other end, Lu Huainan stirred the wok while anxiously asking Zhou Xin, “Honey, that girl is so sweet and beautiful, do you think she might find our son too much of a scoundrel and dump him?”
The more Lu Huainan thought about it, the more uneasy he grew. “Maybe I should just give her twenty million and beg her not to leave our son?”
If money could solve the problem, then it wasn’t a problem at all!
