Surviving the Apocalypse with the Young Miss - Chapter 74
Chapter 74: Drunk
Song Ge started the car and floored the accelerator.
Bright flames and billowing pillars of smoke rose from the government building. The terrifying black smoke reached into the sky, blotting out the sun. Tong Xiangyu leaned against the window to watch until the building was out of sight. Only then did she retract her gaze and take off her backpack.
Song Ge, driving steadily, said to Tong Xiangyu, “There’s something in my pocket. Take it out and look.”
Tong Xiangyu looked at Song Ge’s trouser pocket and reached in curiously. She pulled out a piece of paper that had been folded many times. “What is it?”
“Take a look.”
Tong Xiangyu unfolded it and discovered it was a map. The header in the center read “Taiyun City Structural Map” in large characters. The government building they had just burned was marked with a prominent red star. To the north was Kecheng, and to the south was Zihu City. All the routes were clear and laid out at a glance.
Tong Xiangyu was pleasantly surprised. She looked at Song Ge. “Where did you find this?”
“It was pasted on the wall.”
“How did I not see it?” Tong Xiangyu said. She was both excited and moved; with this map, they wouldn’t have to keep circling around this terrifying city.
She quickly checked the map, comparing it with road signs and surrounding buildings. After confirming the direction Song Ge was driving, she told her, “Just keep going straight for now.”
“Okay.”
Tong Xiangyu soon dug a pen out of her backpack and leaned over the dashboard. She needed to plan the simplest and clearest route out of the city, as they hadn’t yet reached the city center and the surrounding road conditions were still complex. After drawing seriously for a while, sleepiness hit her. She raised a hand to rub her dry eyes.
She had slept too little the previous night and had just undergone a harrowing escape. Now that her tension had relaxed, she couldn’t hold out much longer and fell asleep. Song Ge didn’t wake her. She gently pulled the map out and drove according to the route her friend had marked.
Half an hour later, Song Ge drove onto a large bridge crossing a river. The river was called the Zitai River. The water, which should have been dozens of meters deep, had completely dried up. The riverbed was cracked, and one could see the dried corpses of fish and humans under the scorching sun. The situation was no better than in Kecheng.
As Song Ge watched, she felt strangely hot. Perhaps it was the lingering tension from the escape, or maybe the air conditioning in the car felt stifling. Feeling like she couldn’t breathe, she rolled down her window.
The rolling heat from outside rushed in. Surprisingly, Song Ge felt a bit better. Soon, as a novice driver who had just learned to drive, she rested her left elbow on the window frame and controlled the steering wheel with only her right hand. Her posture was improper, leaning her body toward the window.
The sun remained intense. Song Ge’s gaze swept across the dry riverbed, then turned toward the young lady sleeping on the dashboard in the passenger seat. The direct sunlight shone on that exquisitely beautiful face—delicate, flawless skin, eyebrows like willow branches, long curly lashes casting shadows, a petite nose, and red, moist lips.
Song Ge watched and watched. Suddenly, there was a loud BANG.
Tong Xiangyu woke up instantly from her dream, looking around in a panic. “What happened? What happened?”
Song Ge also snapped out of it and looked ahead. Their car had crashed into the iron guardrail on the right side of the bridge. Beyond the rail was a non-motorized lane, and beyond that was the bridge’s outer fence. If the car crashed through that, they would fall dozens of meters onto the dry riverbed and explode.
Tong Xiangyu was truly frightened. She turned to look at Song Ge. Song Ge, however, had already remembered to reverse the car. Seeing that Song Ge didn’t seem to have much of an emotional reaction, Tong Xiangyu assumed it was just a minor bump. But when she saw Song Ge’s face, she gasped. “Song Ge, why is your face so red from the sun? Why did you open the window? It’s so hot out there.”
“Hot,” Song Ge said.
Tong Xiangyu didn’t understand. “Isn’t the AC on? Of course it’s hot if you open the window.” She added, “Close it, quick.”
Song Ge gave a soft “oh,” fumbled around on the left side, and obediently rolled the window back up. After that, she began to reverse.
Song Ge tapped the gas pedal lightly, but the car accelerated instantly. The rear of the car hit the median railing with a THUD. Even after the collision, Song Ge’s foot remained on the pedal, the engine roaring.
Tong Xiangyu was terrified. “The brake! Step on the brake, Song Ge!!”
Song Ge paused for two seconds before switching to her other foot to stop the car. The vehicle finally came to a halt. Tong Xiangyu immediately turned off the ignition and pulled out the key. Her heart was pounding; she was now certain something was wrong with Song Ge.
“Song Ge?”
“Mhm?” Song Ge turned to look at her. Despite the two consecutive “accidents,” she appeared remarkably calm.
Tong Xiangyu grabbed Song Ge and looked her up and down, asking worriedly, “Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?” They had just escaped the government courtyard, and it had relied on Song Ge drawing all the fire from the mutant dogs. What if something had gone wrong during that time?
Tong Xiangyu had never seen Song Ge like this!
Song Ge looked at her and replied, “Not hurt.”
“Then are you feeling unwell?” Tong Xiangyu raised her hand to feel Song Ge’s forehead. It was burning hot. Startled, she tried to measure it again, but Song Ge caught her hand.
Song Ge’s hand was even hotter. She took Tong Xiangyu’s hand and moved it from her forehead to her cheek. “Hand is so cool. Feels good.”
Tong Xiangyu was bewildered. “??”
Song Ge didn’t just hold her hand to her cheek; she pressed it against her chin, her ear, her neck, and then continued further down… Seeing that she was about to shove her hand into her collar, Tong Xiangyu snapped out of it. Her face flushed bright red as she yanked her hand back, shouting in embarrassment, “Song Ge, are you crazy!”
Song Ge frowned in dissatisfaction as the hand was withdrawn. However, she still remembered her task. She reached out and asked for the keys. “Give me the car keys.”
Tong Xiangyu refused without a second thought. “No. How can you drive like this?” She got out of the passenger side, walked around to the driver’s side, opened the door, and said to Song Ge, “Get out. I’ll drive.”
Song Ge paused for half a second and tried to get up, but was immediately pulled back.
“The seatbelt,” Tong Xiangyu reminded her.
“Oh, right.” Song Ge looked down, searching for the buckle.
Seeing Song Ge like this, Tong Xiangyu grew even more worried. She didn’t wait for Song Ge to do it herself and leaned in to help. As she bent over into the car, a faint fragrance drifted into Song Ge’s nose, and a section of neck as white as jade appeared before her eyes.
Song Ge reached out and touched it. There was sweat. Song Ge used her finger to scrape away the thin layer of moisture.
Tong Xiangyu instantly broke out in goosebumps. She looked up at Song Ge with panic in her eyes. “What are you doing?”
Song Ge showed her the finger. “Sweating.”
“…”
Tong Xiangyu’s face turned red, her heart feeling awkward and conflicted. She backed out of the car and said, “Alright, get out.”
Song Ge stepped out of the car, but instead of letting Tong Xiangyu get in, she grabbed her arm.
“What’s wrong?” Tong Xiangyu asked.
“I know now.”
Tong Xiangyu’s heart tightened. “Know what?”
“That was definitely a hickey.”
Tong Xiangyu was silent for a long time before she managed to catch up with Song Ge’s erratic train of thought. “Are you talking about the red mark behind Nana’s ear?”
Song Ge nodded. “Mhm.”
Tong Xiangyu was speechless for a moment. “Why bring that up all of a sudden?” They had escaped the base and were almost out of Taiyun. Whether it was a hickey or not had nothing to do with them anymore.
Song Ge said seriously, “Need to corroborate it.”
Once again, Tong Xiangyu couldn’t follow her logic. “Huh?” But before she could finish, she was pinned against the car by Song Ge. The car body was scorching hot from the sun, and she let out a cry of “Ayo,” but before she could move, Song Ge’s body was pressing down on her.
Tong Xiangyu’s eyes widened; it felt like a bolt of lightning had struck her!
Song Ge leaned down, the pleasant fragrance becoming more intense. She looked at the smooth, delicate skin before her, covered in a thin layer of sweat, glowing with a beautiful luster like a piece of precious jade that had been polished for a long time.
Song Ge then tilted her head to look at Tong Xiangyu’s small, deep-red ear. With great precision, she visually measured the position of the hickey she remembered behind Nana’s ear. Then, she leaned down and kissed it.
Tong Xiangyu froze completely. Her hands gripped the car surface tightly, her knuckles turning white, but she held her breath and didn’t dare move.
Song Ge pulled away after a kiss. Seeing the entire area of skin she had kissed turn red, she frowned in confusion. …Not right?
Song Ge’s eyes darkened for a moment, and she leaned down again.
Tong Xiangyu’s grip on the car tightened. She could feel Song Ge kissing the skin behind her ear, her tongue lightly grazing it, her lips sucking with slight force. Hot breath puffed against her neck, and every sensation was magnified…
Tong Xiangyu was so tingly her mind went blank. Her body trembled slightly, and her face turned into a crimson cloud. “Song, Song Ge…” her voice was thin and shaking.
Song Ge sucked seriously for a while. Hearing the call, she finally pulled back. On the bright red skin behind the ear, there was now a red mark. Song Ge looked at it, slightly dazed.
Sensing the ordeal was over, Tong Xiangyu finally dared to breathe. She turned her head, but at such close range, she caught a scent. Her eyes widened; she finally knew why Song Ge was acting so abnormally.
Raising her voice, she asked, “Song Ge, are you drunk?!”
Song Ge snapped out of it and said, “No. I didn’t drink.”
After answering, Song Ge stood up straight and stopped trapping Tong Xiangyu against the car. She walked directly toward the passenger side on the other side.
Tong Xiangyu grabbed her. She watched as Song Ge walked confidently toward the median railing—one more step and she would have tripped. She couldn’t even walk in a straight line; no wonder she drove like that.
And she still claimed she wasn’t drunk?!
Tong Xiangyu felt both embarrassed and annoyed. She raised her hand to wipe the skin behind her ear, where the tingly sensation still lingered.
