Surviving the Apocalypse with the Young Miss - Chapter 64
Chapter 64: Feeding Medicine
Tong Xiangyu cried so hard her breathing became rapid.
The dust on the floor was sucked into her lungs, causing a violent fit of coughing. Yet, despite such a large disturbance, Song Ge remained unconscious.
Time was impossible to track in the darkness. The room was cold and silent. Tong Xiangyu had never felt this helpless or afraid. As she sobbed, she gripped Song Ge’s ankle tightly; her cold fingers eventually warmed up from the friction of her own skin. Suddenly, she remembered something Song Ge often said to her: “Don’t cry. Does crying solve problems?”
Right. She couldn’t cry. Crying wouldn’t solve a single thing.
Tong Xiangyu sniffled and forced herself to calm down and analyze the situation. Yue Yao and Gao He had left, and based on their conversation, they were going to find Zeus. This meant that the sequence of events—them trying to run, being drugged, knocked out, and tied up—was something Zeus and Nana were not yet aware of.
Before Zeus and the others arrived was their best window of opportunity to escape, as there were likely no guards outside yet. Once Zeus arrived, they would either be moved or put under constant surveillance.
That’s it!
Tong Xiangyu, eyes still wet with tears, reached into her pocket. She felt something soft. The sanitary pad! The fact that the pad was still there meant Gao He had only tied them up; he hadn’t performed a body search! That meant the tactical folding knife Song Ge always carried should still be there too!
Tong Xiangyu struggled to move across the filthy, dusty floor. Her movable fingers reached upward, feeling their way from the ankle to the calf, then the thigh, until she reached Song Ge’s waist. She prayed intensely in her heart: Please let it be there, please let it be there!
A moment later, her fingers brushed against the hard, blade-shaped tactical folding knife tucked into the inner side of Song Ge’s waistband. Confirming the weapon was there provided a massive surge of relief.
She steadied herself further and began to think through her next moves. She could take advantage of the fact that Zeus hadn’t arrived to cut the ropes on her wrists and then save Song Ge. But the problem was that Song Ge was still unconscious. Through her grogginess, Tong Xiangyu had heard Gao He say the drug would make them sleep for a day and a night.
A day and a night? By the time they woke up, they would be trapped in a quagmire with no hope of escape!
Tong Xiangyu didn’t think it was strange that she had woken up early. Song Ge had eaten a lot at dinner, while she had a small appetite and ate very little; it was natural for her to wake up first. But when would Song Ge wake? An unconscious person was very heavy; Tong Xiangyu knew she didn’t have the strength to carry a sleeping Song Ge out of this terrifying place. And if they tried to run and got caught again, the consequences would be far more brutal.
Therefore, she had to wake Song Ge up first!
The ropes around her wrists were tied extremely tight. Her fingers were cold and numb, and she could clearly feel the blood circulation being cut off. But she couldn’t worry about that now. She struggled to adjust her posture. Fortunately, she was thin and flexible; even lying on the ground with her hands tied behind her back, she could maneuver her left hand to assist her right in reaching her right pants pocket. Using her fingertips, she slowly pinched out the tablets hidden between the two sanitary pads.
Bit by bit… she got them out!
Tong Xiangyu felt a surge of joy, unaware that she was drenched in a cold sweat. She was incredibly grateful she had stolen the medicine that morning and purposely brought it along before leaving. She immediately knelt up and shuffled toward Song Ge’s head. As her fingers searched, nearing Song Ge’s mouth, she carefully wiped her hands on her clothes (even though the clothes weren’t clean) and popped a pill out of the blister pack to shove into Song Ge’s mouth.
However, even in her deep sleep, Song Ge maintained an absolute sense of vigilance; her mouth was clamped shut. Tong Xiangyu tried with her fingers, but the jaw was locked tight; she couldn’t get the pill in at all.
What should she do?
Tong Xiangyu tried several times without success, her heart filled with extreme anxiety. Suddenly, a scene flashed through her mind, but she immediately shook her head. No, no, she couldn’t do that… Maybe Song Ge would wake up soon without the medicine? Wait, just wait a little longer.
Minutes and seconds ticked by. Tong Xiangyu grew more nervous. Eventually, even the slight rustle of wind outside made her jump and look toward the source, even though she could see nothing in the dark.
No, she couldn’t go on like this. She had to try.
Tong Xiangyu gritted her teeth. Throwing caution to the wind, she placed the tablet on Song Ge’s lips and turned her body around. However, after turning, she couldn’t use her fingers to search and had no idea where Song Ge’s mouth was. She calmed her mind, kneeling in the silent darkness, pricking up her ears to listen for Song Ge’s barely audible, steady breathing. Then, she slowly bent her head down.
Not the mouth. The chin? The cheek?
In the darkness, Tong Xiangyu grew even more nervous, though the “object” of her nervousness had clearly changed. As her lips touched warm skin, her ears turned bright red. Her heart pounded so hard it felt like it was in her throat. For a moment, she couldn’t distinguish whether she was saving a life or taking advantage of someone.
Initially, she was hesitant and cautious. But after several misses, her blushing heart turned into burning urgency. If she dallied any longer, Zeus and the others would arrive!
Fortunately, through the repeated “pecking,” she eventually found her mark. Tong Xiangyu sucked up the small pill without a second thought. Her tongue wasn’t sensitive to bitterness, but the acrid taste still hit her brain instantly! Her face crumpled into a ball, and she shuddered from the bitterness. She immediately whispered, “Song Ge, Song Ge…?”
In the darkness, Song Ge gave no reaction.
Tong Xiangyu decided to finish this quickly. She took a deep breath and went for it. She pressed her lips against Song Ge’s and used the tip of her tongue to try and pry open the teeth. However, she quickly realized she had been misled by television dramas. If she couldn’t pry the jaw open with her fingers, how could she do it with her tongue?!
Tong Xiangyu felt the medicine beginning to dissolve in her own mouth. Pressed against Song Ge’s lips, she called out in a frustrated, muffled whisper: “Song Ge!”
At that specific shout, Song Ge’s originally locked jaw momentarily loosened. Tong Xiangyu saw her chance and immediately pushed the tablet into the other girl’s mouth. By then, the pill had mostly dissolved. Amidst the drumming of her own heart, she brushed against Song Ge’s tongue to swirl it in. When she pulled away, the realization of what she had done made her limbs go weak with shock.
But since she had already done it, she decided to go all the way. Fearing the dosage wasn’t enough, she peeled another tablet. This time, having gained experience, she quickly found Song Ge’s lips and, with the pill held at the tip of her tongue, successfully delivered it.
However, once she finished, she suddenly snapped to her senses: Wait, Song Ge isn’t clenching her teeth anymore. I could have just used my hand to put the pill in her mouth. Why did I have to feed her mouth-to-mouth?!
But what’s done was done.
Next came the agonizing wait. Minutes and seconds passed; Zeus’s group didn’t show, but Song Ge showed no signs of waking either. Biologically, liver enzymes can increase the speed at which the liver metabolizes drugs. In a sense, it acts as a detoxifier. But in reality, whether it would work and how long it would take, Tong Xiangyu had no idea; she only possessed the theoretical knowledge.
In the cold, dark room, the wait for Song Ge to wake drove Tong Xiangyu into a spiral of dark thoughts about their fate. They would become the playthings of the people here, losing their freedom like that kind sister, used by men as objects for physical desire—or perhaps even something more inhumane…
Wait. Tong Xiangyu’s body suddenly froze.
What about that sister?! According to Gao He, the drug was in the flour. The sister had eaten the buns too; didn’t that mean she had collapsed as well? If Zeus found out that the sister had helped them escape, wouldn’t her end be even worse?
The terrifying scenarios in Tong Xiangyu’s brain came one after another, making her tremble with a bone-chilling cold. Though she was exhausted, she struggled again. No, she couldn’t just sit and wait for death. Since Zeus and the others hadn’t appeared yet, it was likely they were waiting until after dinner to come; after all, they thought their captives were drugged and bound, unable to run. This meant they had more time.
Tong Xiangyu felt around Song Ge again. This time, she made a new discovery—there was a small tubular object in another of Song Ge’s pockets. Lipstick? No… it was a flashlight shaped like a lipstick!
Tong Xiangyu’s eyes lit up. She remembered when she first unboxed this thumb-sized, lipstick-style flashlight from a package and ran to show it to Song Ge, laughing about how the design was so clever but so mini it looked like a toy. Song Ge had put a battery in it and found the brightness surprisingly good.
Tong Xiangyu immediately fished out this useful and portable flashlight and dared to turn it on. The beam instantly dispelled the darkness. Everything her eyes landed on confirmed her suspicion: this was an uncleaned garage, the floor covered in dust and piled with useless junk.
She quickly shone the light on Song Ge. Song Ge’s eyes were tightly shut, her brow furrowed, but she still hadn’t woken up. Tong Xiangyu didn’t dare look at Song Ge’s mouth, so she moved the light lower. Although she had felt with her hands earlier, seeing with her own eyes allowed her to truly relax: Song Ge had no external injuries. As long as she wasn’t hurt, it wouldn’t affect their escape plan.
So, please wake up!!
Just as she thought this, she heard footsteps outside. Terrified, Tong Xiangyu immediately switched off the light, clutched it in her palm, and collapsed onto the ground to pretend she was asleep. She was even afraid of making a sound by falling too fast, so she lay down very carefully.
The footsteps drew closer and closer. With her eyes closed, Tong Xiangyu’s heart slowly climbed into her throat. The footsteps finally stopped outside the door.
Tong Xiangyu’s brow furrowed slightly. Wait, this sound…
