- Chapter 35 - This Ghost Fetus Is Yours Now!
Liu Cheng frowned as he listened to her reasoning, which sounded both logical and well-founded.
Starting with superstitions at such a young age—was she planning to rely on drawing lots to answer multiple-choice questions during the college entrance exams?
Seeing his reluctance, Tan Lingyin smiled and said, “It’s fine if you don’t believe me, Teacher Liu. Just treat it as a protective charm from your student. It’s no trouble to carry it with you.”
Only then did Liu Cheng reach out and take it. “Thank you, I’ll keep it.”
Tan Lingyin gave a faint smile and waved her hand. “No need to thank me. You’re my homeroom teacher, after all!”
She hurried upstairs, her steps light with the satisfaction of having done a good deed.
Liu Cheng was a good person. Despite her frequent tardiness, missed exams, and other misfortunes, he had never given up on her as a student and still reminded her to study hard.
Not to mention, when she was expelled, he had even helped her contact other schools for a transfer.
That was why Tan Lingyin was willing to help him unconditionally—otherwise, she’d always feel like she owed him a favor.
Back in the classroom, Tan Lingyin immediately spotted Tan Yayue at her seat.
The heavy yin energy around her made her appear gloomy, especially her eyes, which were bloodshot—a clear sign of excessive indulgence.
It seemed the lustful ghost was in a hurry, eager for the ghost fetus to take form.
Tan Yayue noticed her return and said coldly, “Don’t rush off at lunch. I need to talk to you.”
Tan Lingyin happened to want to check on the ghost fetus’s progress, so she readily agreed. “Sure.”
During the morning classes, the teachers went over exam papers, droning on until Tan Lingyin was nearly asleep.
She had already scored full marks, so listening naturally made her drowsy.
When the lunch bell rang, she reflexively stood up, ready to bolt from the classroom—only to remember Tan Yayue’s words and sit back down.
Students gradually filed out to the cafeteria, leaving only Tan Lingyin and Tan Yayue behind.
Well, and one unwelcome presence—Li Lele.
Li Lele lingered, staring at Tan Yayue. “Yayue, what do you want to talk to her about? Let’s go eat first.”
Tan Yayue shot her a glare. “Get out.”
“O-okay!” Li Lele scurried away like a frightened mouse, though inwardly she cursed Tan Yayue for being ugly—far less attractive than Tan Lingyin, the adopted daughter.
Tan Lingyin remained seated as Tan Yayue stood and walked toward her.
Her gaze fell on Tan Yayue’s abdomen, where a dense mass of yin energy had settled. The faint outlines of a head and limbs were already visible.
Tan Yayue stopped in front of her, looking down imperiously. “Tell me, what’s your relationship with the man who picked you up the other day?”
Tan Lingyin found it amusing and couldn’t help but laugh. “You made me wait just to ask that?”
“What else?” Tan Yayue planted her hands on the desk and leaned in, glaring. “If you know what’s good for you, introduce him to me. I might even consider letting you stay as an adopted daughter in our family.”
Tan Lingyin wrinkled her nose at the foul yin energy emanating from Tan Yayue’s breath and leaned away. “I’m not interested. And you have bad breath—stay away from me.”
Tan Yayue’s eyes darkened, and suddenly, she lunged at Tan Lingyin with both hands.
Tan Lingyin’s expression turned icy as she blocked her. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Why should I bear all this? It’s clearly your burden to carry!” Tan Yayue screamed hysterically, her hands gripping Tan Lingyin’s tightly. “You should have died long ago! Only when you’re dead can I live safely and peacefully!”
“Take this ghost fetus as my gift to you!!!”
As Tan Yayue spoke, a red light suddenly flared between their clasped hands.
Tan Lingyin immediately felt a burning sensation in her palm, followed by an invasive surge of chilling energy forcing its way into her hand.
Not good!
Tan Yayue was actually trying to transfer the ghost fetus to her!
What a sinister trick—undoubtedly orchestrated by that evil Taoist behind the Tan family’s back!
Just as Tan Lingyin was about to use her mystical energy to repel Tan Yayue, she reconsidered, realizing that might not be the best approach.
She quietly recited an incantation, and the Soul-Nurturing Talisman from her bag floated out.
Manao emerged from the talisman and blew a breath toward Tan Yayue, who instantly collapsed unconscious.
Looking at Tan Yayue lying on the ground, Manao licked her lips greedily. “Master, the ghost fetus inside her has such pure energy. Can I devour it?”
“No,” Tan Lingyin refused coldly. “Return for now.”
Manao’s overwhelming yin energy made her unsuitable to linger in the classroom, as it would affect the students during afternoon classes.
“As you command.” Manao obediently retreated into the Soul-Nurturing Talisman.
Tan Lingyin approached Tan Yayue and examined her hand—sure enough, an identical red sigil was there.
Such crude, ugly symbols had no place in orthodox mystical traditions. This had to be the evil Taoist’s own twisted creation.
After studying it briefly, Tan Lingyin recognized it as a crude imitation of a Transfer Sigil, though far less stable in effect.
A laughably amateurish trick.
While Tan Yayue remained unconscious, Tan Lingyin lifted her shirt, exposing her flat stomach.
She then bit her fingertip and drew a blood-seal over Tan Yayue’s abdomen.
This seal would trap the ghost fetus inside Tan Yayue. If the evil Taoist could break it, Tan Lingyin might actually respect him a little.
She wanted him to know she wasn’t afraid—better yet, she hoped he’d be provoked into confronting her personally.
After finishing, Tan Lingyin adjusted Tan Yayue’s clothes and slumped over her desk, feigning unconsciousness.
Soon enough, Tan Yayue awoke.
Frowning and rubbing her temples, she quickly regained awareness and glanced around.
Spotting Tan Lingyin collapsed on the desk, Tan Yayue’s eyes gleamed with excitement as she stealthily checked Tan Lingyin’s palm.
Seeing the red sigil there, she couldn’t suppress a cry of triumph. “Perfect!”
Afraid of waking Tan Lingyin, she clamped a hand over her mouth and tiptoed out of the classroom.
Only after she left did Tan Lingyin sit up, a faint smirk playing on her lips.
She examined the red sigil on her palm, summoned a surge of mystical energy, and the mark vanished instantly.
Such a shoddy sigil posed no threat to her.
When afternoon classes resumed, Tan Yayue was absent—undoubtedly rushing to confirm the transfer with the evil Taoist.
Tan Lingyin paid it no mind. Everything was proceeding exactly as she intended.
Sure enough, upon returning home, Tan Yayue found Ming Zhao drinking tea with Liu Yun in the parlor.
“Master Ming, it worked!” Tan Yayue extended her hand eagerly. “Using your sigil, I successfully transferred the ghost fetus to her!”
Ming Zhao took her hand and saw that the talisman seal had indeed been activated. He then held Tan Yayue’s wrist to check her pulse.
Her pulse was very unstable, with the slippery pulse coming and going intermittently.
Could it be that the ghost fetus had just left, causing the pulse to be erratic?
Liu Yun anxiously asked, “Master Ming, has the ghost fetus really been transferred away?”
