- Chapter 22 - The Company Lost Nearly 100 Million
The peak of pleasure left Tan Yayue’s sleeping face flushed, her lips parting with soft, delicate moans.
The dream was so beautiful that she was utterly lost in it, unable to extricate herself.
Meanwhile, Liu Yun and Tan Hongzheng were still awake, deep in conversation.
Liu Yun asked nervously, “Do you think that wretched girl has figured something out?”
Tan Hongzheng, however, remained unbothered. “From what she said, it does sound like she knows something. But even if she does, what can she do? She’s just a child—what could she possibly understand?”
Liu Yun nodded. “That’s true. But how did she find out?”
“Could it be that man from earlier today? Could he be a mystic?” Tan Hongzheng pondered before sending a message to his assistant. “I’ll have someone look into him, see what his background is.”
Liu Yun quickly added, “I remember his license plate number. Have them check who the car is registered to.”
After sending the message, Tan Hongzheng placed his phone on the nightstand and patted Liu Yun’s back. “Let’s sleep. The company has a bidding project coming up—I need to rest well.”
Always supportive of his work, Liu Yun immediately turned off the bedside lamp. “Alright, go to sleep.”
Before they knew it, dawn had arrived.
Tan Yayue’s eyes flew open as she gasped for air.
A chill ran through her body, and she realized she was drenched in sweat. The air conditioning had turned it clammy against her skin.
When she tried to sit up, a sharp ache shot through her waist.
Her face instantly burned red.
She murmured to herself, “So… I’ve already met you in my dreams…”
“We just saw each other yesterday, and last night, I finally saw your face clearly in my dream. You must have dreamed of me too!”
Consumed by lust, Tan Yayue had convinced herself that the faceless man from her dreams was Huo Jingyan—unaware that the figure haunting her was, in fact, a lustful ghost.
Without a care for her appearance, she bolted out of her room and dashed downstairs. “Mom! Mom!”
Liu Yun was seated at the dining table, a maid massaging her temples.
She had suffered nightmares again last night, leaving her in a half-awake state. Now, her head throbbed painfully.
Hearing her daughter’s voice, she responded weakly, “What is it?”
Tan Yayue exclaimed excitedly, “Mom, I have something to tell you!”
“Remember that man from the car yesterday?”
Liu Yun raised a hand, signaling the maid to leave.
Her expression darkened. “I remember. Your father already sent someone to check who owns that license plate.”
“That’s great! I want to see him when you find out!” Tan Yayue’s cheeks flushed as she spoke, her expression brimming with shy delight.
Liu Yun frowned slightly and gestured for her to sit. “Yueyue, come here.”
Tan Yayue sat beside her, her hair disheveled and her forehead glistening with sweat—clear signs of her excitement.
Liu Yun wiped her daughter’s forehead with a tissue and asked gently, “Why do you want to see him? Once we find out who he is, your father will make sure they pay for what they did.”
Tan Yayue hesitated before confessing, “I… actually have a secret…”
“Can you tell me?” Liu Yun coaxed with a soft smile.
Tan Yayue nodded, her expression drifting into reminiscence. “Lately, I’ve been having this dream… There’s a man in it who treats me so, so well…”
“Because I could never see his face clearly, I didn’t know who he was.”
“But after I saw that handsome man yesterday, last night I finally saw his face clearly—it was exactly the same as his!”
“Mom, don’t you always say that fate works in mysterious ways? I think he’s my true love!”
Liu Yun frowned even deeper as she looked at her daughter’s excited expression. “You’re saying you’ve been dreaming about a man recently?”
“What does he do to you in the dreams?”
Tan Yayue’s ears turned red, afraid that telling the truth would make Liu Yun dislike her, so she half-lied, “He doesn’t do anything. It’s just… in the dream, he seems to be my boyfriend…”
Liu Yun relaxed slightly and gently advised, “True love? Don’t overthink it. Once your father finds out who he is, we’ll make sure he’s driven out of Nancheng!”
“And that wretched girl Tan Lingyin will lose her backer—she won’t even get a chance to take the college entrance exams!”
But Tan Yayue corrected her, “But before, I couldn’t see his face clearly. Ever since I met him, the man in my dreams became him. Doesn’t that mean it’s fate?”
Liu Yun nodded dismissively, “Maybe. Go wash up and come down for breakfast. I’ll take you to school later.”
Tan Yayue felt like her mother wasn’t listening, so she stomped upstairs in frustration.
……
For two days in a row, Tan Lingyin had been living happily.
Tan Yayue hadn’t bothered her at all—she’d been unusually quiet.
Even the fickle Li Lele had followed suit and kept to herself.
But Tan Lingyin noticed something odd. Every evening, Tan Yayue would follow her closely, peering into the car whenever she got in.
Tan Lingyin had a rough idea why.
Unfortunately, Zheng Han had been the one picking her up lately—neither Huo Jingyan nor Li Heng had shown up.
That lust-driven fool had seen Huo Jingyan once and was already obsessed.
It was Wednesday. Tan Lingyin walked out of the school gates and didn’t need to turn around to know Tan Yayue was trailing her.
Zheng Han opened the car door for her, but she suddenly turned to look at Tan Yayue.
Tan Yayue didn’t flinch, her eyes scanning the car interior before disappointment flashed across her face.
Why wasn’t he here again…?
Then again, maybe it was for the best. It meant he didn’t care about Tan Lingyin.
Tan Lingyin’s gaze dropped to Tan Yayue’s stomach, and she raised an eyebrow with a smirk. “Tan Yayue, you’ve been eating well lately. You’ve put on weight.”
Tan Yayue quickly covered herself with her bag and snapped, “What nonsense! You’re the one who’s gotten fat!”
But Tan Lingyin was delighted, cheerfully touching her own face. “Thanks for the compliment. I have been doing well—I’ve gained a pound.”
She used to be so thin she was practically skin and bones, and anemic at that. She’d even hated her own reflection.
Gaining weight meant her health was improving, and that made her happy.
Tan Yayue hadn’t expected her to be happy about gaining weight, so she just snorted and turned to leave.
Tan Lingyin called after her, “Having too many dreams at night isn’t a good thing!”
But Tan Yayue had already climbed into the Tan family’s car.
Watching the car drive away, Tan Lingyin curled her lips into a cold smile.
How amusing.
It hadn’t even been that long, and Tan Yayue’s stomach was already carrying something.
That lustful ghost was quite capable.
……
At the Tan residence.
Tan Hongzheng sat on the sofa, smoking with a troubled expression. He rarely smoked, and never at home.
Liu Yun knew he was in a bad mood, so she didn’t scold him for smoking in the living room.
She sat down beside Tan Hongzheng and gently took his hand. “Honey, what’s bothering you so much?”
“The bidding project was snatched away. The company lost nearly a hundred million…”
Tan Hongzheng took a deep drag of his cigarette before forcefully stubbing it out in the ashtray. “And what’s worse, I realized the one who took the project is a familiar face.”
