- Chapter 12 - The Stench of Decay
Tan Lingyin exhaled deeply and turned to look at Huo Jingyan standing by the door.
Purple aura… purple aura…
She needed its nourishment…
This body had only just begun absorbing mystical energy—it was still far too weak.
Opening the Human Realm to send a wronged soul to reincarnation had drained her strength.
Especially after shedding blood twice today, she felt her already anemic body was on the verge of collapse.
She took a step forward with her right foot, heading toward Huo Jingyan. But after only a few steps, her vision suddenly darkened.
“Ah, little master!” Zhao Deming rushed from behind, trying to steady her.
But someone was faster.
Huo Jingyan had already wrapped an arm around Tan Lingyin’s slender waist, pulling her into his embrace. “What’s wrong with her?”
Master Xuanqing reached out and took her wrist, carefully checking her pulse for a moment before saying, “It’s nothing serious. She was already in poor health, and now she’s exhausted her mystical energy—she just fainted from weakness.”
Zhao Deming asked anxiously, “Is the little master really going to be alright?”
“Don’t worry. She’ll probably wake up after some rest,” Master Xuanqing reassured.
Huo Jingyan had already lifted Tan Lingyin into his arms. “Find a room where she can rest properly.”
Madam Zhao quickly said, “There’s a guest room on the first floor—it’s very clean.”
Huo Jingyan carried her to the guest room and laid her on the bed. But as he tried to straighten up, he realized the corner of his shirt was caught in her grip.
Tan Lingyin wasn’t completely unconscious. Instinctively sensing the warm aura that comforted her was slipping away, her small hand clung tightly to it.
Looking down at the delicate fingers clutching his shirt, Huo Jingyan frowned slightly. His large hand gently tried to pry hers loose.
Her hand was tiny, her fingers slender—he didn’t dare use too much force, afraid he might break them.
After trying unsuccessfully to pry it open twice, Huo Jingyan sighed helplessly, “Forget it.”
He sat down by the bed, leaning slightly against the headboard, and looked down at the girl whose porcelain-pale face was peacefully serene in her faint.
Master Xuanqing stroked his beard as he observed the scene, his gaze fixed on Huo Jingyan’s face.
The aura of death that had once shrouded Huo Jingyan had now significantly faded.
Could it be that this little girl truly had the power to dissolve his fatal calamity?
Moreover, she had repeatedly insisted on not being separated from Huo Jingyan—could she really be drawing away the deathly energy clinging to him…
“Master Xuanqing! Master Xuanqing!” Zhao Deming called out several times before finally having to shake Master Xuanqing’s arm to get his attention.
Master Xuanqing snapped out of his thoughts and turned to him. “What is it?”
Zhao Deming spoke cautiously, “Master Xuanqing, the young master Tan Lingyin has fainted. Could you please take a look and see if there are any other anomalies in the house?”
“Whatever fee you and the young master require, I will pay it in full!”
Master Xuanqing glanced at the sleeping Tan Lingyin and replied calmly, “I can take a look, but I won’t intervene in this matter.”
“She was the one who resolved the issue. Any compensation should go to her.”
With that, he walked out, and Zhao Deming hurried after him.
Madam Zhao chimed in, “I’ll prepare some warm water and food for the young master.”
The room was now left with only Huo Jingyan and Tan Lingyin.
Tan Lingyin was diligently using the purple energy emanating from Huo Jingyan to nourish her own Xuanling Bone, while simultaneously absorbing the surrounding mystical energy and converting it into spiritual power to store within herself.
After a while, Tan Lingyin gradually regained consciousness.
She had already sensed that she was clutching something in her hand but had no intention of letting go.
Purple energy delivered right to her—why refuse such a gift?
Huo Jingyan had been watching her and noticed her eyelashes fluttering slightly, her breathing becoming irregular.
She was clearly awake.
“Still not letting go?” He lightly tapped the small hand gripping his clothes.
Tan Lingyin knew she couldn’t keep pretending. She blinked her eyes open drowsily. “My head hurts so much…”
She released his clothes and rubbed her eyes. “Huh? Mr. Huo, where are we?”
Huo Jingyan chuckled softly and stood up, looking down at her from beside the bed. “You fainted earlier. The Zhao family arranged for you to rest in the guest room.”
Tan Lingyin feigned sudden understanding, then quickly threw off the thin blanket and got out of bed. “No, the matter isn’t finished yet. I still need to check the second floor.”
She strode out briskly, showing no trace of her earlier weak and fainting state.
Huo Jingyan watched her long legs dart away, then glanced down at the wrinkled corner of his clothes. He flicked it lightly with his fingers.
Pretending to be asleep even after waking up—she must have been too embarrassed to open her eyes after realizing she was holding onto his clothes.
Tan Lingyin hurried upstairs and headed straight for the room of Zhao Deming’s father.
Though the second floor still carried a slight chill, the eerie ghostly energy had completely vanished.
When Chen Qing left, the dark, malevolent energy she had brought into the villa disappeared with her.
Just then, Master Xuanqing and Zhao Deming descended from upstairs.
Master Xuanqing said, “I’ve checked everywhere. Your house is clean now. Don’t worry about it anymore.”
Zhao Deming thanked him profusely and spotted the young master Tan Lingyin standing in the hallway.
Seeing her looking well, he quickly asked, “Young master Lingyin, are you feeling better now?”
Tan Lingyin nodded, “Much better. May I go in and take a look?”
She pointed at the tightly shut door.
Zhao Deming quickly stepped forward and pulled out a key. “Of course, let’s go in together.”
As the door opened, the once-chilling ghostly aura had vanished, replaced instead by a faint odor of decay.
