Striving for Harmony After Transmigrating as an Alpha Female Supporting Character - Chapter 21
Ai Xiaoyu marveled at Cheng Wangās bizarre logic. No wonder he had pursued Jing Nianxun for so long without so much as touching her hand; his brain simply didn’t work right.
Still, in this ABO world, it wasn’t uncommon for girls to be together. If two girls were too intimate, people naturally assumed they were in that kind of relationship. Ai Xiaoyu glanced at Jing Nianxun, who was packing her things in the bleachers. Her long black hair draped over her shoulders, partially obscuring her face, but her stunning features still shone through, making one want to reach out and touch those pale red lips.
If she didnāt have the “script” and know that Jing Nianxun was actually an Alpha, she might have truly harbored some selfish desires.
But forget it! She was just a female supporting character; how could she dare to covet the female lead? What about the male leadās pride?
Speaking of the male lead, Ai Xiaoyu couldn’t help but wonder: what kind of man could possibly be worthy of Jing Nianxun? She searched her mind for tropes from the romance novels she’d readāthe gentle guy next door, the overbearing CEO, the handsome school hunk.
No matter the type, she felt they only existed in text. She couldn’t imagine any of them standing side-by-side with Jing Nianxun.
Ignoring Cheng Wang, Ai Xiaoyu walked straight past him to Jing Nianxun. She took the copy of Criminal Psychology 2 to carry for her, and they walked back to the classroom together.
Cheng Wang didn’t give up. Perhaps feeling a sense of crisis, he chose to confess the very next day.
In the original novel, he had confessed back at the cinema. Jing Nianxun had rejected him, of course, and he spent the rest of the story as a mere tool for the plot. Since Ai Xiaoyu hadn’t let him go to the cinema, that plot point had been delayed until now.
His method was as clichƩ as ever: a box of exquisitely packaged chocolates, fresh roses, and a messy love letter written in handwriting that looked like crawling insects.
He specifically waited for a break when Ai Xiaoyu wasn’t around to deliver them, fearing she might cause trouble. So, when Ai Xiaoyu returned, she found a large box of chocolates on Jing Nianxunās desk. Jing Nianxun was holding the roses, looking completely lost, with a pink love letter sitting in front of her.
“…” Ai Xiaoyu silently criticized his “straight man” taste, then raised an eyebrow at Jing Nianxun. “You accepted them?”
Jing Nianxun certainly hadn’t. This was her first time dealing with such a situation, and she was visibly troubled. “He insisted on shoving them at me. He put them on the desk and ran away.”
Ai Xiaoyu shrugged. “If he gave them to you, just take them.”
“Huh?” Jing Nianxun was confused. “But I don’t like him…”
“Accepting them doesn’t mean you like him.” Ai Xiaoyu opened the chocolate box. It contained several of her favorite flavors, and she felt a bit of a craving. She peeled one and popped it into her mouth. “Not bad.”
She picked up the rose and twirled it. The petals were vivid and delicate, still holding morning dewāit seemed Cheng Wang had actually put in some effort.
“This can keep the cactus in your room company. Cacti and roses… both have thorns. Theyāre a good match.”
“As for this…” Ai Xiaoyu picked up the love letter, scanned it, and tsked twice. “Thereās nowhere to keep this, and itāll just end up in the trash if you save it. Give it back to him; it must have been hard for him to write so many words.”
Jing Nianxun watched as the chocolates and roses were kept while the love letter was returned to Cheng Wangās desk. She sat in a daze for a moment before covering her mouth and letting out a low giggle.
“What are you laughing at?” Ai Xiaoyu asked, puzzled.
Jing Nianxun shook her head, saying it was nothing. She had thought Ai Xiaoyu liked Cheng Wang and had gone to the basketball game for him. Looking at her attitude now, it seemed that wasn’t the case at all.
Though she didn’t understand what Ai Xiaoyu was thinking, knowing she didn’t like Cheng Wang gave Jing Nianxun a sense of inexplicable joy.
As for Cheng Wang liking her… just as Ai Xiaoyu suggested, sheād let him be! There was no need to trouble herself over it.
As class was about to start, Cheng Wang finally returned. His first glance was at the returned love letter; his second was at the torn chocolate wrapper and the rose already tucked into Ai Xiaoyuās backpack.
Cheng Wang glared at Ai Xiaoyu. It must be her obstructing his path to love again! This Ai Xiaoyu was terrible to Jing Nianxun before, and now she had ulterior motives, trying to keep everyone else away from her.
Cheng Wang thought: Jing Nianxun is such a kind and beautiful girl! She must not have seen through Ai Xiaoyuās schemes. I have to warn her.
He turned to Jing Nianxun anxiously. “Nianxun, you mustn’t listen to this person’s sweet talk. Don’t you know… she has ulterior motives toward you!”
Jing Nianxun blinked in confusion.
Ai Xiaoyu coughed and shooed Cheng Wang away. “Stop filling her head with weird ideas. I do not!”
Cheng Wang snapped, “Don’t lie! Tell the truth, you were always mean to her, and now youāre suddenly nice and so intimate every day. Why? Isn’t it because you. ”
The bell rang, and Ai Xiaoyu quickly dragged Cheng Wang back to his seat before he could say anything more outrageous.
Jing Nianxun still looked bewildered. “What did he mean just now?”
“Nothing, it’s nothing.” Ai Xiaoyu turned her head away, not quite daring to look Jing Nianxun in the eye.
During PE class that afternoon, the teacher had them practice in pairs for the upcoming physical fitness test.
The groups were pre-assigned. Ai Xiaoyu didn’t want to do leg presses or sit-and-reaches with someone she didn’t know, as those involved physical contact. So, she swapped with a girl in Jing Nianxunās group, who happily agreed.
It should have been a normal occurrence, but in the words of Cheng Wang, the sports representative, it became: Ai Xiaoyu, in her quest for physical contact with Jing Nianxun, has blatantly violated the teacherās arrangement to move into her group.
While Ai Xiaoyu was helping Jing Nianxun with her leg stretches, Cheng Wang stood nearby, mocking her so much that Ai Xiaoyu felt exhausted just looking at him.
When she stood up to get water, Cheng Wang muttered, “You better watch out. Iām the one who records the final PE scores.”
Ai Xiaoyu nearly choked on her water. She hadn’t expected Cheng Wang to use his position to pressure her. How childishāwas this some kind of playground game?
Jing Nianxun walked over, her expression cold. She had clearly heard him.
She walked straight up to Cheng Wang and stared him down, her eyes flashing with anger. Ai Xiaoyu had rarely seen Jing Nianxun look like this and was a bit taken aback.
“Don’t forget that you are a sports recruit. Your qualifications are under strict scrutiny. If anyone heard you were abusing your authority, what do you think the consequences would be?”
Jing Nianxun spoke coolly, leaving Cheng Wang wide-eyed. Was she helping Ai Xiaoyu and going against him? Why?
Could it be, could she already be…?
Cheng Wang had a sinking feeling. He remembered how Jing Nianxun always seemed so happy when she was with Ai Xiaoyu lately, with a genuine smile often in her eyes.
Could they already be…?
Cheng Wang felt his worldview crumbling. He stood there dazed for a long time, unable to process it.
Just then, a small boy from another class ran over, spinning a basketball.
“Hey, found you at last!” The boy smiled at Ai Xiaoyu. “Remember me? We saw you playing basketball in the gym yesterday afternoon. You were so cool! Our basketball club is short on girls, and weād love for you to join. Are you interested?”
Ai Xiaoyu was already frustrated by the drama with Cheng Wang. Hearing about something she actually cared about lifted her spirits immediately.
She was just about to agree when she heard Cheng Wangās cold voice: “Did you get my permission?”
The small boy finally noticed Cheng Wang and immediately stood at attention. “Hello, Vice President!”
Cheng Wang snatched the ball from the boy and threw it to Ai Xiaoyu, his tone unfriendly. “So, you can play basketball, huh? Fine. Pass my test and you can join the club.”
Ai Xiaoyu stood outside the three-point line while Cheng Wang stood under the basket in a defensive stance.
“Get three shots past me and you’re in.”
