Straight Corporate Slave Accidentally Stumbles into the School's F4 - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Why is your uncle Ferrio?!
For a young master accustomed to luxury goods, hearing the five words “children’s cosmetics” was clearly beyond comprehension. However, before Yun Cheng had a chance to press further, the music history professor appeared beside them.
“Excuse me,” the professor, wearing a felt hat, said with a smile. “Can you focus your attention on the lesson, Yun?”
Yun Cheng immediately shut his mouth obediently. “Sorry.”
The music history teacher had a very good temperament. If students daydreamed in class, he wouldn’t usually say anything, let alone come down to warn them, unless they were talking and disrupting the classroom discipline like Qiao Nai and Yun Cheng just now.
Fortunately, Qiao Nai hadn’t taken the initiative to speak earlier, and since his usual grades were excellent, he was a favorite among the teachers. Thus, the professor only warned Yun Cheng.
When the professor, who usually remained stationed at the podium, suddenly walked down, almost every student in the class looked over, thinking something had happened.
Suddenly, a voice drifted from somewhere:
“God, isn’t that the internet sensation Qiao An? I just swiped past his photo on IG.”
The person spoke with the intention of discussing it with a friend, but because the surroundings were too quiet, many people heard him.
“What internet sensation? What IG photo?” someone quickly chimed in.
“You haven’t seen it? That’s too bad; it already has 20,000 likes on IG.”
“Incredible.”
“No more talking,” the professor intervened in time. “Let’s refocus on the key point here.”
As soon as the professor spoke, the students whispering had no choice but to shut their mouths.
Qiao Nai’s fingers paused. He had obviously heard their conversation as well.
Already 20,000 likes? So fast?
Once the professor returned to the podium, Qiao Nai quietly took his phone out of his bag and opened IG again.
The notification messages for likes weren’t as overwhelming as they were at noon, and it wasn’t as laggy, so the speed was much faster. Qiao Nai was finally able to open his own profile page.
He had only changed his profile picture at the time and hadn’t edited any information; even his nickname was the default one. But even so, it didn’t hinder the popularity of the photo.
Qiao Nai scrolled through a few comments and found that most were a uniform sea of surprise and praise.
You look so cute!
Your smile melts my heart and please marry me.
My new favorite cute guy alert!!
OMG you’re like a little angel.
As he scrolled, Qiao Nai finally reached a familiar-feeling comment.
Is the OP Chinese or Korean? Which university do you attend? What’s your major? Do you have a girlfriend? So cute! A newcomer has entered my harem.
There were several replies under this comment, all in Chinese.
Listen to my command: everyone, keep your underwear dry!
No, sisters, you should ask if the streamer has a boyfriend. With looks this obvious!
I feel the same way hhh…
So cute I could die. You’re not allowed to pee with other boys (Crying face) (Crying face)
I really want to live one life with this face, cluck cluck cluck, wooo wooo wooo.
Well, familiar, but definitely not decent…
But it proved that he didn’t have nothing; at least the face was there!
There were thousands of comments piled up, and Qiao Nai couldn’t get through them all. Since he had already verified his thoughts, he was about to exit when a new notification suddenly popped up on his homepage.
User L followed you.
Qiao Nai clicked into this profile. It was very clean no posts, the nickname was just the single letter “L,” and even the profile picture was a solid gray. Coincidentally, however, the IP address was the same as Qiao Nai’s.
This person’s account was so clean that it piqued Qiao Nai’s curiosity. He casually clicked on the gray profile picture to enlarge it and found a pet rat right in the center. Further to the side, there was a well-defined hand, with only half of it showing.
Under the gray filter, the pet rat sat upright in the palm of the person’s hand, eating.
Quickly, Qiao Nai’s attention was drawn to that hand. Besides the slender fingers, it also revealed half of the back of the hand and the forearm.
The forearm was muscular fit but not overly so and the muscle lines were exceptionally distinct. Looking closer, there was a small black mark on the back of the hand, stretching from the pad of the middle finger all the way to the wrist, like a tattoo. Qiao Nai felt like he had seen this tattoo somewhere before; it was very familiar.
However, he rarely had colleagues with tattoos, especially in such a visible place as the back of the hand. So where on earth had he seen it?
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice Yun Cheng reaching over.
“What are you looking at, Qiao An?” Yun Cheng moved his lips, speaking silently.
“Nothing, nothing,” Qiao Nai snapped back to reality. “I’m just scrolling through IG out of boredom.”
Yun Cheng’s eyes widened. “Even you slack off, Qiao An? That doesn’t seem like your style.”
Every time there was an exam, Qiao An was always first, and the scholarship always had his share. Yun Cheng had never seen him slack off, so he found it a bit hard to believe for a moment.
He glanced at Qiao Nai’s phone screen and found that it really was IG.
“Slacking off once in a while,” Qiao Nai explained. He wanted to close his phone, but Yun Cheng suddenly grabbed his wrist.
“Why is this profile picture so familiar?” Yun Cheng leaned in to take a few looks and suddenly remembered something. He said, “Isn’t this Ferrio’s IG?”
This time, it was Qiao Nai’s turn to be shocked.
“Huh?” he said. “This is Ferrio’s??”
“Yeah,” Yun Cheng withdrew his hand. “I remember I pushed Ferrio’s IG account to you before.”
“Did you?” Qiao Nai pursed his lips, pretending he knew. “I remember now. You did push it to me before, but at that time I hadn’t downloaded IG yet and didn’t have time to follow. I suddenly remembered today, and since I happened to have time, I gave it a follow.”
Yun Cheng nodded, his attention returning fully to the professor, and he didn’t doubt Qiao Nai’s words.
Seeing this, Qiao Nai turned his head and let out a sigh of relief.
No wonder that tattoo looked familiar; it belonged to the “original uke.”
Qiao Nai had a sudden realization. He closed his phone and began packing his things, but halfway through, he stopped abruptly.
Wait, that’s not right.
Why would Ferrio suddenly follow him???
“An? Did you hear me, An?”
“Ah, I heard you. I can get there right away.”
The tutoring center had just called him to give him the address of the student’s home he needed to tutor that evening. Qiao Nai was still mulling over why Ferrio followed him and had accidentally spaced out.
“Do a good job, dear,” the manager said enthusiastically. “The child you’re tutoring this time is from the villa district; the hourly rate is at least eighty dollars.”
Eighty dollars that was more than the hourly rate for a certified teacher, three or four times higher than a normal tutor. He had to grasp this opportunity.
“Okay, sir.” Qiao Nai tugged at the thick scarf around his neck and pulled his thoughts back. “I will tutor well.”
Hanging up the phone, Qiao Nai checked the time. It was seven in the evening. He hadn’t eaten since leaving school; he only had a wrap at noon, and his stomach was already growling.
However, the tutoring started at eight o’clock. If he took the bus there, it would take forty minutes. The buses here were very unreliable, and adding the waiting time, there was simply no extra time to eat.
An empty stomach made him feel very uncomfortable. Qiao Nai rubbed his belly, pursed his lips, and walked toward the station.
Forget it, I won’t eat for now. On the way back to the rental house after finishing the tutoring, I’ll stop by a convenience store to buy food.
This was Qiao Nai’s first time going to this villa district. He planned to arrive early to avoid leaving a bad impression. After all, it was eighty dollars! And that was the minimum eighty dollars.
Tonight, the bus arrived a few minutes early, and Qiao Nai managed to catch it just before it left. The journey was a bit further than he thought; it took fifty minutes to arrive, leaving him only a few minutes.
Fortunately, he arrived at the student’s house just before eight o’clock.
Panting, Qiao Nai rang the doorbell, glad he hadn’t gone to eat dinner.
“Mr. Qiao? Please, come in.” A butler in a black-and-white uniform opened the door with a welcoming smile. “It’s quite cold outside, isn’t it?”
“A little,” Qiao Nai returned the smile. “I ran for a bit just now, so I’m better now.”
“Have some hot tea first.” The butler handed the freshly poured hot tea to Qiao Nai and took Qiao Nai’s messenger bag for him.
“Thank you.”
Since he was a child, Qiao Nai didn’t like drinking tea. No matter what kind of tea leaves they were, they always felt bitter and astringent in his mouth; he couldn’t appreciate them. But since he was in someone else’s house, Qiao Nai took a sip anyway.
Suddenly, he looked up.
This tea was surprisingly neither bitter nor astringent; there was a hint of sweetness in the aftertaste. He didn’t know what kind of tea leaves they were, but the wine-red tea was crystal clear without a trace of cloudiness. It was the most unique tea he had ever tasted.
“Mr. Qiao? Do you like this tea?”
The butler was too enthusiastic, making Qiao Nai a bit uncomfortable. “I like it. You can just call me by my name, no need to be so polite.”
“Very well, Mr. Qiao,” the butler continued to address him that way.
Qiao Nai sighed helplessly in his heart.
Forget it, whatever.
“By the way, may I ask about the student for today’s tutoring…” Qiao Nai just wanted to get through these two hours of tutoring as quickly as possible so he could go home and buy a croissant. But before his words could finish, a childish voice came from behind him.
“Is it my pizza that’s here?”
“No, Harrison, it’s your tutor.” The butler walked forward and led Harrison, who hadn’t even graduated from primary school, to Qiao Nai. “Mr. Qiao, this is the student you’ll be tutoring today.”
Hearing it wasn’t what he wanted, Harrison looked at the butler somewhat sadly. “Can we go out for pizza after class?”
“No, Harrison. You can’t eat fast food at night; it has no nutrition. Besides, you just had two slices last week,” the butler said.
Although Harrison was very disappointed, he still nodded obediently. “Okay.”
The child was obedient, but he simply wasn’t interested in studying. No matter how Qiao Nai changed his methods to explain the problems, he just lay on the table looking out. Only when his name was called would he turn back, and within seconds of turning back, his mind would wander again.
Even though Qiao Nai only needed to lecture for two hours regardless of whether the kid listened to get those 160 dollars (which would be 100 dollars after the tutoring center’s cut), he thought: What if I get assigned this kid again next time?
So, he had to find a way to discipline him.
“Harrison,” Qiao Nai called the young boy’s name.
“Sorry, Mr. Qiao,” the boy turned his head back, very polite.
“What kind of pizza topping do you like?” Qiao Nai roughly guessed the boy’s thoughts.
Harrison’s body paused as if he had misheard. “What?”
Qiao Nai acted as if he had caught a lead. “I’m saying, if you listen obediently for the rest of the time, I’ll take you for pizza this weekend.”
Harrison’s eyes lit up instantly. He sat up straight at once, his eyes wide and round. “Really!”
Coaxing a child really did require using a child’s methods. Ever since Qiao Nai promised to take him for pizza, Harrison was like a different person. He didn’t let his mind wander at all and even took the initiative to ask questions. Qiao Nai felt that the hundred dollars earned was worth the value.
On Saturday night, the young boy proactively contacted Qiao Nai, asking hesitantly if he could go tomorrow.
Tomorrow morning’s part-time job was short, and he had two hours afterward, so Qiao Nai agreed to Harrison, which made the little guy ecstatic.
The studio Qiao Nai rented wasn’t very close to Harrison’s villa. It would be quite difficult to take him out without his family knowing; after all, the wealthier the family, the stricter the management. Just as Qiao Nai was mulling over how to deliver the pizza to the boy, Harrison suddenly spoke up:
“Mr. Qiao, can I go to your house to find you?”
“How will you get here?” Qiao Nai asked.
“My uncle said he can drop me off.”
“Your uncle?” Qiao Nai asked. “Doesn’t your family forbid you from eating those things?”
“My mom and dad don’t allow it, but my uncle agrees,” the boy said. “Uncle said he can drop me off there.”
“Alright then.”
That was perfect; he didn’t have to think about how to deliver the pizza.
Half an hour later, the moment he saw Harrison’s uncle downstairs, Qiao Nai froze on the spot.
Wait.
Why is your uncle Ferrio?!
