Stop Eyeing My Pretty Caretaker - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Yesting’s gaze fell upon Jian Chen, locking eyes with the young man.
Jian Chen felt as though he were pinned down by that stare; his breath hitched.
In the next second, Yesting took a light, sharp breath. He began walking toward Jian Chen.
The standing postures of several officers froze instantly; the atmosphere became terrifyingly quiet.
Dundun peeked his head out from one end of the fabric. Seeing his “father” walking over, he gave a tiny “awoooo,” turned around, and burrowed straight into Jian Chen’s arms, pretending Yesting couldn’t see him.
A young officer couldn’t help but chuckle softly. “Man, as expected of the Captain. Even his own cub is scared of him.”
Li Kai wasn’t focused on that. He simply muttered slowly, “Do I have any chance of leaving here alive today?”
The crowd: “…”
How do we tell you politely that the only way you’re leaving the military zone alive is if you’re dead?
Jian Chen truly hadn’t expected to run into Yesting in Military Sector 1. Even though the man worked in the military district, there were over twenty sectors in total—the probability of this encounter was minuscule.
However… seeing Yesting in his military uniform in person for the first time, Jian Chen clutched his small heart, admitting that his husband was indeed breathtakingly handsome.
Moreover, in the phone call that was still active just now, he didn’t think he had said anything that would bother the man. On the contrary, it was this group of young officers who kept calling him “Little Sister-in-law.”
They just had the wrong person. It shouldn’t… be a big problem, right?
Jian Chen stood his ground, unmoving. He couldn’t help but squeeze the red panda’s paw. Dundun licked Jian Chen’s finger as they watched Yesting approach.
Jian Chen felt a bit stifled. After all, suddenly appearing in your lover’s workplace lobby, running into them without saying a word beforehand, carried a slight, subtle awkwardness.
To his surprise, Yesting’s heavy gaze lingered on him for a moment before he suddenly took off his military uniform jacket.
Before Jian Chen could react, his shoulders and the back of his neck were enveloped in a layer of warm, heavy fabric. His fingers, which had turned red from the cold, were now wrapped inside the jacket.
“…!”
The man had actually draped his uniform over him in front of all the officers.
Yesting’s jacket was far too large. Compared to the man’s tall stature, Jian Chen looked tiny inside the uniform, with only his head sticking out. But there was residual warmth within the fabric, along with Yesting’s slightly familiar scent.
Jian Chen froze. Inside this massive coat, his heart began to beat a little faster.
Yesting asked calmly, “Why aren’t you wearing a sweater?”
Jian Chen paused, remembering that when he was mixing seawater for the little merman at home, he had taken it off because it was hot. Afterward, he was in such a rush to get to the research institute that he didn’t have time to put it back on. Under his down jacket, he was only wearing a thin single layer.
No wonder he felt a bit chilly. But… Yesting had actually noticed.
Jian Chen felt a surge of warmth from his husband. He gave a small sniff and answered obediently, “I was in a hurry to leave. I’ll pay attention next time.”
The crowd: “!!!”
Is it really okay for you two to massacre us “single dogs” like this?
Also… was their Commander-in-Chief really the type of person to worry about whether someone was wearing a sweater? Was this really their Captain Ye??
Before they could recover from the shock, Yesting suddenly shifted his gaze toward them.
The officers looked at one another and collectively looked away. They stared at the hallway, then the ceiling—looking everywhere except at Yesting.
“Li Kai, step forward.”
“…”
Hearing the command, all the officers snapped back to reality. They silently offered Li Kai looks of condolence, but not a single person chose to lend a helping hand.
Beads of sweat began to form on Li Kai’s forehead. Upon receiving the order, his posture went bolt upright as he stepped out from among the officers. If one looked closely, they could see a drop of sweat seeping from the young officer’s temple.
Yesting looked down. From Jian Chen’s perspective, his gaze was a bit cold. But from the officers’ perspective, “a bit” was an understatement Yesting’s expression was no different from a demon from hell.
In a voice devoid of warmth, Yesting said slowly, “The Dawn Mission in the West, the Special Underground Infiltration Mission, and the Interstellar Exploration Pioneer Dispatch Team.”
The man suddenly listed these three seemingly unrelated things.
Jian Chen didn’t understand. But the officers’ bodies shuddered.
Good heavens, those three were the specific missions that officers would die to avoid. If you went, you usually only came back with half your life left.
Li Kai seemed to have given up and accepted his fate. He asked slowly, “Commander, are you letting me pick one?”
Although all three were hopeless, if he had to choose, Li Kai wanted to try the Dawn Mission in the West, as he had similar experience before.
Yesting pursed his lips and denied the request: “You are ‘volunteering’ for all three programs.”
“Pfft.”
The officers suppressed their laughter. What a great way to “volunteer.”
Li Kai’s eyes slowly widened, as if he could already see the Grim Reaper waving at him. He lowered his head, wanting to cry but having no tears. Suddenly remembering something, he snapped his head up and cast a look toward Jian Chen, looking like a teary-eyed stray puppy.
Jian Chen: “…”
Don’t look at me, brother. I don’t have a say in this either.
Yesting frowned slightly and stepped forward, blocking Jian Chen’s line of sight. Simultaneously, he blocked Li Kai’s view of Jian Chen.
“…”
The officers were stunned. Protecting him to this extent?? We can’t even take a single look at your wife? This is ridiculous!
Jian Chen hesitated for a moment. Then, he slightly raised his hand and, with an extremely gentle motion, tugged at the corner of Yesting’s clothes.
Yesting turned his eyes to look at Jian Chen. Their gazes met, and the air felt a bit warm. Jian Chen’s lips moved, but he suddenly didn’t know what to say.
Pleading for mercy? Would Yesting even listen to him?
Taking in Jian Chen’s expression, Yesting went silent for a moment before turning back to Li Kai. His voice dropped lower: “Then I’ll help you choose one.”
“The third one,” Yesting said.
—The Interstellar Exploration Pioneer Dispatch Team.
Incredible. He was being sent straight to another planet. That “Little Beauty” comment was certainly expensive.
The officers looked at Li Kai with schadenfreude.
The group finally dispersed, and the lobby returned to its sparse, busy hum. Only Jian Chen and Yesting remained standing face-to-face.
Of course, there was still a small red panda sandwiched between them.
Yesting was tall, so when he spoke to Jian Chen, his eyes were often slightly lowered, his eyelashes thick and curled. The man asked in his magnetic voice:
“What happened?”
