Chapter 39: “Whose Hair Is This?”…
The Snowy Plains Assembly went very smoothly.
The participants were various tribes both inside and outside the Northern Borders, some agricultural, some nomadic.
They might have had grudges against each other, but under the suppression of Pei Shujing, everyone was able to sit together.
Among the various tribes, the Snow People naturally had the largest contingent.
So, when the Snow Queen stood on Great Xia’s side, any other thoughts the remaining tribes might have had were carefully concealed.
Even though Liu Yena was docile in front of them, at most arguing verbally, the Snow Queen’s reputation in the Northern Borders was quite fierce.
According to Xie Ning, these tribes should be grateful to them; otherwise, these people would still be living in misery.
It was late now, and the highly anticipated bonfire party was about to begin.
Pei Shujing changed her clothes, and the two didn’t attend the bonfire party. Instead, they rode the same horse and strolled around the periphery of the bonfire area.
The snow began to fall heavier, landing on Xie Ning’s face.
“It’s truly beautiful.”
“Is the snow as beautiful as I am?” Pei Shujing’s voice was melodious and rising.
Xie Ning didn’t answer, leaning her body closer.
Pei Shujing turned her head and tilted her face up, welcoming Xie Ning’s light kiss.
At the same time, Xie Ning’s hand on Pei Shujing’s waist moved upward, finally circling to the front.
After a long time, Xie Ning held her waist and inhaled the scent of her hair: “I missed you very, very much these past few days.”
“How much did you miss me?” Pei Shujing asked with a smile.
Xie Ning brought her lips close to Pei Shujing’s ear and whispered: “A little more than Your Highness missed me.”
“Oh, then not much at all.”
“…You didn’t miss me?”
“No.”
“Really?”
“Naturally.” Pei Shujing’s gaze turned towards the bright moon.
“Then why don’t you dare look at me? I don’t believe your eyes are empty.”
“Do you want to die?”
“Aiya, aiya, I know Your Highness actually missed me very much, but just can’t say it.”
“This Prince is admiring the moon,” Pei Shujing said discontentedly. “Missing you… is at most only as big as the moon.”
Xie Ning hugged her tightly: “Do you know that the moon is actually very large? It only looks small because we are too far away.”
“Who knows if what you’re saying is true?” Pei Shujing felt the slight pressure, resting her head comfortably on Xie Ning’s chest.
“I will prove it to you.”
“How will you prove it?”
“By the time I invent something called a telescope.”
“This Prince doesn’t want to wait. I want it now.”
“Then I’ll go make it now.”
“Go ahead.”
“Am I really going?”
“Go, go, go!” Pei Shujing made a gesture to push her away.
Xie Ning hugged her even tighter, laughing softly into her ear: “We still need to help Xiaoyu tonight. Maybe in a few days?”
“Are you implying that Xiaoyu is more important than this Prince?” Pei Shujing’s face darkened.
Xie Ning laughed, leaning in to kiss her.
It was a kiss without any lust, only a faint warmth lingering in their hearts.
The snow-covered plains were pristine white, shimmering brightly under the moonlight.
“This Prince doesn’t want to ride the horse.”
“Then let’s get down and walk.”
“I don’t want to walk either, I’m tired.” Pei Shujing’s eyes fixed on Xie Ning.
“I’ll give you a piggyback ride. Is that okay?” Xie Ning quickly dismounted and half-squatted on the ground.
Pei Shujing curved her lips behind Xie Ning’s back, then leaned onto her as if to tackle her, wrapping her arms around Xie Ning’s neck.
“Giddy-up.”
“…Isn’t this still riding a horse?”
“Don’t question this Prince… keep your hands to yourself!”
“I’ve never given anyone a piggyback ride before, I’m just finding the most comfortable position.”
Although she said that, Xie Ning still adjusted the position of her hands. Only then did Pei Shujing truly enjoy the novelty of the piggyback ride.
Where their bodies touched, waves of heat spread, especially Xie Ning’s profile. The more Pei Shujing looked, the more pleasing it was, making her want to rub her face against it.
“Your Highness, do you have any identical sisters?”
“No.” She, who was admiring Xie Ning’s profile, replied in an impatient tone.
“Look.” Xie Ning squeezed her leg.
Pei Shujing reluctantly looked ahead. A furry dog face was looking back at her. The husky was panting with its tongue out, smiling as if saying hello.
“Sister, I’ll give you a sister.” Pei Shujing tightened her grip on Xie Ning’s neck and bit her ear.
“Ouch! That hurts, that hurts!”
Pei Shujing jumped off her back and commanded: “Open your mouth.”
“Ah—”
Just as Xie Ning thought Pei Shujing was going to bite her tongue, Pei Shujing grabbed a handful of snow from the ground and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Huh?!” Xie Ning jolted.
Pei Shujing smiled triumphantly from above: “This is this Prince’s punishment, no, reward.”
“Mhm? Woo woo, woo woo woo!”
Listening to Xie Ning’s muffled protest, she commanded coolly: “Swallow it down quickly.”
Xie Ning suddenly wrapped an arm around her shoulder, slightly bending her upper body forward. Their two mouths, now at the same height, pressed together, and Xie Ning returned the now-melted water to her.
Pei Shujing was caught off guard and swallowed it instantly.
“What are you doing!” She wiped her mouth, saying angrily: “That’s filthy!”
“I tasted a little, and it tasted good, so I wanted you to try it too.” Xie Ning pointed at her mouth.
“Do you think this Prince is a fool?” Pei Shujing sneered, murder gradually entering her eyes.
“We are both fools.” Xie Ning pulled Pei Shujing back into her embrace.
“Mgh…”
Pei Shujing walked furiously ahead. Xie Ning tried to grab her hand but was quickly shaken off.
“What’s wrong?” Xie Ning looked at her quizzically.
“Tired.” Pei Shujing folded her arms, her gaze fixed on the brightly lit bonfire camp in the distance.
“I carried you for so long, and I haven’t complained about being tired yet.”
“Are you complaining that this Prince is heavy?”
Pei Shujing glared at him instantly.
Before she could explode in anger, Xie Ning smiled and reached out her hand: “Alright, alright, let’s go find a place to rest.”
Smack! Pei Shujing slapped his hand away and walked straight ahead without looking back.
No matter what conflict arose between them, no matter how unreasonable she was, Xie Ning would surely follow. Pei Shujing had this confidence.
If only it were all because of love.
This thought briefly gained the upper hand, but she suppressed it.
The way they met and the disparity in their status destined that their relationship could not be purely love.
As long as she is mine, that is enough…
“How about I introduce Your Highness to a novelty? Want to ride on my neck?” Xie Ning’s voice, full of laughter, came from behind. Pei Shujing sped up her pace.
She didn’t stop until half an incense stick of time had passed.
Xie Ning walked up to her side and naturally took her hand.
Pei Shujing gave him a disdainful glance, but surprisingly found that Xie Ning’s expression also seemed to say: See? You stop too.
So, she fiercely stomped on Xie Ning’s foot.
“Why are you stomping on me?” Xie Ning said, her tone gentle, a smile on her lips.
Pei Shujing was clearly angry, but her heart skipped a beat because of Xie Ning’s smile.
Feeling that she was reacting like an ordinary young girl, her face became even colder.
Then, she stomped again.
“Can you stomp on the other foot?”
“Are you scared?”
“That’s not it. I just don’t want Your Highness to be angry or unhappy.”
Pei Shujing curled her lips in disdain, not refuting.
Given their current relationship, as long as it wasn’t cheating or betrayal, she wouldn’t really do anything to Xie Ning.
As for other matters, like just now, even if there was a punishment, it would be behind the closed bedroom door tonight.
Thinking of this, Pei Shujing’s eyes moved.
She hinted: “This Prince is cold.”
Xie Ning was also tired and nodded: “Then let’s go back and take a hot bath first.”
Back in the room, Pei Shujing immediately collapsed onto the bed, too lazy to move.
However, when Xie Ning gently leaned down on top of her and pushed aside her bangs, she immediately stretched out her arms and wrapped them around Xie Ning’s neck again.
Xie Ning used her warm hands to caress Pei Shujing’s skin, which was as smooth as lard and as soft as silk.
“You sleep for a while. I’m going to fetch some hot water.”
“Mhm.”
Pei Shujing pulled the messy bedding up to cover her body.
Xie Ning got up, first went to boil water, and then poured water into the wooden tub.
The wooden tub was large; it took three large pots of hot water to fill it up.
Pei Shujing was already asleep. Xie Ning didn’t wake her up, simply carrying her into the wooden tub.
Mid-transfer, Pei Shujing unconsciously reached out her arms, habitually wrapping them around Xie Ning’s neck, pressing her face against her soft chest.
The water immediately overflowed.
The two were fully immersed in the hot water, and the naked Pei Shujing was nestled between Xie Ning’s legs.
Pei Shujing finally woke up. She stretched, yawned, and leaned her head back against Xie Ning’s chest.
“Thirsty.”
Xie Ning picked up a pot of tea from the nearby table, took a big gulp, and bent down to transfer it to her mouth.
After drinking, Pei Shujing hit Xie Ning’s chest with the back of her head, seemingly saying, This Prince wanted to drink water the normal way.
After the bath, Xie Ning felt completely refreshed. She hugged Pei Shujing and drifted off to sleep happily.
When Xie Ning woke up again, it was already predawn, and the noise outside had long ended.
She held Pei Shujing in her arms, wrapping the quilt around them.
The ordeal didn’t wake up Pei Shujing, who was sleeping with her head tilted. Xie Ning used her burning hands to rub Pei Shujing’s stomach.
Not long after.
“Aiya, you’re annoying.” Pei Shujing opened her eyes.
Xie Ning didn’t answer. She leaned down and greedily sucked on her lips, like a child reluctant to eat a jelly in one bite.
Pei Shujing groaned in dissatisfaction, subconsciously pushing her away and turning her back.
Xie Ning moved closer again, embracing her from behind.
This time, Pei Shujing didn’t flee. She adjusted her posture in Xie Ning’s arms, comfortably continuing to sleep.
After a while, Pei Shujing opened her eyes again, because she felt Xie Ning’s hand moving around. Just as she thought Xie Ning was being mischievous again, the hand was pulled out from under the covers.
“What are you doing?” she asked impatiently.
In front of her was Xie Ning’s slender left hand with clearly defined knuckles. At Pei Shujing’s request, her nails were kept clean and tidy.
In this hand, which one could stare at all day without problem, nestled between the thumb and index finger, was a hair slightly thicker than a strand of head hair.
“Yours?” Xie Ning looked at her.
“Are you blind? That’s obviously yours,” Pei Shujing snapped.
“No, no, no,” Xie Ning shook her head seriously, denying it, “The color clearly indicates it’s yours.”
“Color?” Pei Shujing looked closely but couldn’t spot a difference.
“How about we compare for real?” Xie Ning said, attempting to dive under the covers.
“Are you crazy!” Pei Shujing cursed, pulling all the blankets and wrapping herself up. “If you want to compare, go compare your own!”
“No, this kind of thing must be made clear!” Xie Ning said, rising to pin Pei Shujing down.
“Again?” Pei Shujing, wrapped in the blanket, looked up at her with beautiful, wide eyes. She looked incredibly cute and somewhat pitiful.
Just as Xie Ning was about to kiss her, Xiaoyu’s voice suddenly rang out at the door.
“Your Highness, are you asleep?”
“I can’t sleep.”
Pei Shujing & Xie Ning: “…”
Oh no!
They forgot about Xiaoyu!
