Chapter 24: Evil Reaps What It Sows — A Scoundrel Deserves to Live in Fear Forever…
“This Qi Yishu… are we really going to wipe her memories?” Yu Wuyi supported the unconscious Qi Yishu and brought her before Qin An, feeling a bit reluctant. “She definitely wouldn’t want to forget this herself…”
“Erasing this segment of memory is for her own good,” Qin An said indifferently. “Her obsession was too deep; that is why she was easily used by those with hidden motives.”
“If we don’t erase it, she will remain stubborn and eventually become a pawn for someone else once again.”
At this, Qin An raised an eyebrow and looked at Yu Wuyi. “If you want to fight her again, you’re more than welcome to send her back exactly as she is. I won’t stop you.”
“Heh, no thanks, no thanks!” Yu Wuyi waved her hands frantically with an awkward laugh. “Let’s just get on with the memory wiping.”
Seeing her reaction, the corners of Qin An’s mouth curled into an almost imperceptible arc before returning to a straight line. She squatted down by Qi Yishu’s head, placing her hand on her forehead and chanting an incantation in a language Yu Wuyi couldn’t understand.
As the words fell, a piercing red light glowed from between Qi Yishu’s brows, vanishing in an instant.
“It’s done. When she wakes up, all memories related to Xu Huixin will have vanished.” Qin An stood up, looking relaxed.
“Qi Yishu is handled, but what about that scumbag?” Yu Wuyi glanced at the unconscious Ren Zha. “Whenever a mortal stumbles upon Underworld business, their memories have to be wiped according to the rules, right?”
“According to the rules, yes.” Qin An nodded. She walked up to Yu Wuyi and whispered in her ear, “But, no one said we couldn’t make an exception.”
“You…” Feeling the cool air brushing against her ear, Yu Wuyi felt the tips of her ears burn. She dodged to the side and stammered, “Just talk normally. There’s no one else here, why get so close?”
Realizing her reaction was a bit loud, she let out a forced cough to cover it up. “As for this Ren Zha, letting him forget everything would actually be doing him a favor.”
“He should keep these memories and live the rest of his life in the shadows of doubt and fear.”
“As you wish.” Qin An’s lips curved into a satisfied smile. “I’ll leave the cleanup to you then.”
“I’m heading back first.”
“Wait… you—” Before Yu Wuyi could finish, Qin An flicked her sleeve and vanished on the spot.
“Will I be unable to reach you again like before…?” Yu Wuyi pursed her lips, finishing her sentence with a hint of disappointment.
This Qin An… always coming and going like a ghost.
Seeing that Qin An wasn’t responding again, Yu Wuyi sighed in resignation. She bent down, hoisted the unconscious Qi Yishu onto her shoulder, and carried her out. As for that scumbag, she left him to fend for himself.
…
It was two days later when Yu Wuyi finally returned to campus after wrapping everything up. During that time, the rumors on the school forum had not escaped her notice.
New! Does anyone know what happened to Professor Ren Zha from the Computer Science Department?
OP: As titled. I’m a contestant in this year’s Lincheng Computer Competition. Today, the academy suddenly notified me of a change in team advisors, and I can’t reach him personally. Did something happen?
1F: That guy? Don’t even mention it. His drama exploded yesterday, didn’t OP see? I can only say that if something happened to him, he brought it on himself!
2F: Just a rumor, not sure of the truth. I heard Professor Ren Zha came running out of that abandoned dorm building acting completely insane. You all know what goes on in that building. Yesterday, he was stopping people on the main road, muttering things like “I don’t want to die,” “There really are ghosts, a ghost wants to kill me,” and “Save me.” Basically, he’s no different from a mental patient now!
3F: Whoa, who wouldn’t call this divine justice? People have been saying for a long time that he was crooked, using his wife’s connections to get benefits and groping people everywhere…
“How about it? I’d say I solved the matter perfectly, right?” Yu Wuyi turned off her screen and looked at Liu Yan with a grin. “Auntie Liu, remember what we agreed on…”
“Two academic performance credits. Your Auntie Liu isn’t senile yet; of course I remember.” Liu Yan glanced at her with a smile and added, “You did a good job with the cleanup. It really does take a young person’s touch.”
“Hehe, you flatter me.” Yu Wuyi scratched her head, feeling a bit embarrassed. “By the way, Auntie Liu, since you’re so certain of my abilities…”
“I have a proposal…”
“Could you promote me? You know, to those who run into ‘trouble.’ Tell them to come find me.”
“So this is what you were waiting for?” Liu Yan poked Yu Wuyi’s head with her pen. “Fine, I promise.”
“However, opportunities here aren’t as common as you think. These things depend on fate; they can’t be forced.”
Seeing that Liu Yan actually agreed, Yu Wuyi nodded frantically. “I know, I know! Thank you, Auntie Liu!”
“Alright, look at that silly grin. You don’t look like someone raised by that stiff Ming Qingxuan at all.” Liu Yan waved her off. “Go on back. I’ll contact you if something comes up.”
…
On the way back to the dorm from Liu Yan’s office, Yu Wuyi idly browsed her phone, reading a supernatural web novel.
After several days of long-distance travel, the young scholar was tired and hungry. Just as his vision began to blur, he saw a thatched hut appear ahead…
…
The scholar turned his head, only to come face-to-face with a pair of eyes bleeding tears!
“HEY!!”
“WHO?!”
Immersed in the story, Yu Wuyi jumped three feet in the air at the sudden shout. She spun around with wide eyes, and after seeing who it was, she felt a mix of relief and annoyance.
“It’s just you! You scared me to death! Don’t be so sudden next time; if I get a heart attack, you’re paying the medical bills!” Yu Wuyi clutched her chest, speaking exaggeratedly to Song Miao.
“Sorry, sorry! I’ll be careful next time, I promise.” Song Miao pressed her hands together in a sincere apology, instantly defusing Yu Wuyi’s anger.
“Fine, fine. Just watch it next time.”
“By the way, the magnetic field around the abandoned dorm suddenly improved recently. That was your handiwork, wasn’t it?”
“Would you believe me if I said no?”
“Nope.” Song Miao shook her head. she held out her hand, fingers spread, and said seriously, “I believe my calculations more.”
“Then why ask me?” Yu Wuyi was speechless. “Isn’t that redundant?”
“Oh, just double-checking! Seeing your reaction proves my calculations were right!”
“Hey Wuyi, next time you have a job like this, bring me along! You know how hard it is to meet the credit standards for this major…”
“Every opportunity is precious!” As she spoke, Song Miao pouted and shook Yu Wuyi’s arm pleadingly.
“Isn’t your family specialized in this? You should have plenty of leads,” Yu Wuyi said suspiciously, refusing to be fooled by Song Miao’s pitiful act as she pulled her arm away.
“Sigh, don’t even talk about it.” Song Miao waved her hand. “My grandmother said she wants to ‘train’ me, so she cut off all family resources. I am a purely lone wolf now!”
“Wuyi, I can only count on you—”
Seeing the girl about to lean on her again, Yu Wuyi quickly blocked her. “Stop, stop! Speak with your mouth, not your hands.”
“It’s not impossible to bring you along, but you have to have something to trade.”
“Artifacts, talismans, or cultivation techniques—I accept them all.” Yu Wuyi held out her hands. “Do you have any?”
“…” Song Miao was clearly taken aback. She froze on the spot, unable to say a word.
“See? Since you have nothing, it’s hard to discuss a partnership.” Yu Wuyi shook her head and feigned regret, turning to walk away.
She had only taken two steps before Song Miao grabbed her.
“Who said I don’t have anything?!”
“Oh?” Now it was Yu Wuyi’s turn to be surprised. She had deliberately made things difficult for Song Miao and hadn’t expected her to actually have something.
“This is a real treasure. It can connect the Yin and Yang realms! Many people would kill for it!”
“I just don’t have it on me right now. Wait for it—in a couple of days, I’ll bring it to trade with you!”
“Now can you promise me?”
Ignoring Song Miao’s obviously pained expression, Yu Wuyi was indeed very interested in the item she described. Connecting the Yin and Yang realms… wouldn’t that mean I could travel between the human and spirit worlds whenever I want?
Though she was internally thrilled, Yu Wuyi maintained a serious expression on the surface. She covered her rising smile with her hand and said slowly, “If you can actually produce it, then I promise.”
“It’s a deal!” Song Miao pointed at Yu Wuyi, her voice laced with excitement. “No taking it back!”
With that, she turned and ran off, leaving Yu Wuyi standing alone in the wind.
Yu Wuyi began to wonder if this trade was actually too good to be true.
…
Returning to the dorm, Yu Wuyi was surprised to find that Liu Shu, who had taken a leave of absence to recover at home, had already returned. Her mental state looked much better.
Xie Yunqing and Liang Qi were still in class, so only she and Liu Shu were in the room. Seeing her return, Liu Shu hurried to take a bag of snacks from her luggage and handed it to her.
“Wuyi… although my memories of that period are very messy, I know you saved me.”
“Thank you… and I’m very sorry…”
“I was possessed by my own greed…”
“It’s fine. As long as you’ve learned your lesson, that’s enough.” Yu Wuyi didn’t refuse Liu Shu’s kindness. “Just don’t go near those things again in the future.”
“Believe in science.”
After comforting Liu Shu, Yu Wuyi began to consider Ming Qingxuan’s advice about living off-campus. After all, the fewer people who knew about these supernatural affairs, the better. Staying in the dorm was inconvenient for both her movements and the privacy of others.
After much thought, she decided to accept the offer. She would keep her dorm bed for emergencies, but move into a place nearby.
Having decided, she dialed Ming Qingxuan’s number.
“Hello, Auntie Ming.”
“That house near the school you mentioned before…”
“Yes, I’ve thought about it. Dorm life really isn’t suitable for me.”
“Okay, I’ll contact her then…”
