Snuggling for Survival: A Quick Transmigration Tale - Chapter 4
Yu Yu was woken up by hunger. She had eaten a lot the previous night, but when she opened her eyes, her stomach was already growling.
Hearing that sound, the person who had been pretending to sleep all night finally got up and changed into new clothes. After lying in the covers together for an entire night, Li Yuan could feel that she was completely covered in the little liar’s scent. It smelled somewhat sweet.
“Lady, what time is it now?” Yu Yu looked left and right but could not see a clock, nor did she see Li Yuan take out a phone. She had no way of judging the time.
“Past noon, around two o’clock.” This was the time of day Li Yuan hated most; it was far too hot.
“Oh.” Yu Yu’ed nodded, feeling a bit panicked.
She had absorbed plenty of energy, but she felt incredibly embarrassed. She could only turn to the System for help. [Liu Liu, it is the second day of the wedding and we slept until two in the afternoon. Isn’t that a bit impolite? Why did no one wake us up?]
[This, I do not know. I have never been married. But according to the data I found, it is indeed a bit impolite. We did suck up a lot of energy values though, dozens of times more than in the first world!]
Yu Yu felt even more guilty.
She hurriedly got out of bed and changed her clothes. Standing beside Li Yuan, she did not know what to do with her hands and feet. “Lady, we slept so long on our first day.”
Li Yuan was not very good at communicating with people, but the tension on the little liar’s face made her feel uncomfortable. Reaching out to ruffle the girl’s hair, Li Yuan smiled. “It is fine. They are used to it. You must be hungry. Let’s go eat, and I will show you around the house.”
Knowing that the girl liked holding her hand, Li Yuan did not wait for Yu Yu to take the lead this time. She took Yu Yu’s hand in her own and led her outside.
Even during the day, the massive Li Family Mansion saw very few people. If not for the red lanterns hanging about, one could not tell that the family had just held a wedding. A thick layer of dust covered the courtyard and fallen leaves were scattered across the ground. Only the path they were walking on looked somewhat clean.
Yu Yu looked around and saw very few people, which she found a bit dull. Fortunately, her hand was still linked with Li Yuan’s; that was the thing that made her happiest.
Li Yuan’s expression remained indifferent. She led the girl on a deliberate lap around the mansion before finally heading toward the kitchen. At every turn, Li Yuan expected Yu Yu to start questioning her.
However, the girl acted as if she had noticed nothing at all, which made Li Yuan feel a sense of defeat. There was no trace of fear on that small face. In fact, whenever Li Yuan walked a bit faster, Yu Yu would hurry to keep up, terrified that Li Yuan might let go of her hand.
This feeling of being wholeheartedly relied upon was subtle. Li Yuan had seen far too much fear and hypocrisy on people’s faces. Whether they were faking composure or showing terror, it was all disgusting to her. She had seen everything except trust and reliance.
This little liar certainly knew how to please her.
“Lady, I smell something burning.”
Yu Yu’s voice snapped Li Yuan back to reality.
The little liar needed to eat. The kitchen was the one place the little ghosts had been forced to clean the night before. Right now, it was the only spotless place in the entire mansion. Even the ingredients had been purchased in the early hours before dawn; they were not the centuries-old items stored in the Li family vaults.
However, she had ultimately overestimated the abilities of these little ghosts. Aside from cleaning, they seemed useless at everything else.
“Eldest, Eldest Miss.” The housekeeper spoke with a guilty conscience as he threw away a plate of blackened food. “The fire got a bit too high by accident. Perhaps you two could wait a little longer?”
“Groom, Groom! What do you want to eat? I will go learn! I’ll make you something delicious!” A young man with a baby face lunged toward Yu Yu. His skin was incredibly white, but his beaming expression made Yu Yu feel a sense of warmth.
“Lai Fu, do not get so close to the Groom.” The housekeeper reached out and grabbed the back of the boy’s collar, turning Lai Fu around without the slightest effort. “We will send the food over once it is ready. Why don’t you go back and rest for a while?”
Yu Yu stared at the people in front of her. She had not seen anyone else during their long walk, and it seemed everyone was concentrated here in the kitchen. Even including the housekeeper, there were only five or six servants. The clothing style of the Li family was quite vintage; these men were all wearing Tang suits. Yu Yu took a quick glance before looking up at Li Yuan. “Does the housekeeper handle the cooking for the family too?”
“Yes.” Li Yuan’s heart sank. she stared intently at Yu Yu, thinking that by this point, the girl must have realized something was wrong.
Yu Yu’s brow furrowed in deep thought for a long time before she finally spoke. “He is so hardworking.”
Li Yuan: “…”
