Snuggling for Survival: A Quick Transmigration Tale - Chapter 22
Yu Yu had never been shouted at so fiercely before. The shock jolted her entire body, and tears immediately welled up, sliding down her cheeks in large droplets. Despite her distress, she remained stubborn, pressing her lips together and refusing to let out a single sob.
Li Qing’s head also throbbed with pain, but her inner stubbornness prevented her from apologizing to Yu Yu. Because she had shouted quite loudly just a moment ago, Li Qing felt slightly dizzy. Now that Yu Yu was silent, Li Qing could not bring herself to lose face by backing down.
Sullen and seemingly determined to prove herself, Yu Yu poured another small glass of alcohol and began to sip it slowly. The sharp, stinging sensation persisted, trailing uncomfortably down her throat.
The sound of Yu Yu’s occasional coughing irritated Li Qing. When she bought the alcohol, she had intentionally chosen a high proof. She was not entirely sure where her own limit was, but her entire family consisted of heavy drinkers. She was not someone who got drunk easily; at most, she would feel a bit lightheaded for a while before her mind cleared again.
Watching Yu Yu, whose face was flushed bright red and whose tears would not stop falling, Li Qing cursed silently. She did not even know how to drink, yet here she was drinking anyway. Does she not know she is the person who is sick every single day?
“Stop drinking,” Li Qing said. She reached out and snatched the wine glass away. Although she was incredibly frustrated, she had no intention of gambling with Yu Yu’s life. She had witnessed this girl’s fragile constitution firsthand. Just now was her own mistake; she truly had not expected Yu Yu to be this stubborn.
Yu Yu lacked the strength to fight her for the glass. She turned her head away, tears continuing to flow, and her voice was thick with choked sobs. The alcohol was clearly going to her head now, and her words carried a hint of indignation. “Do I have to listen to everything you say? Mind your own business and leave me alone.”
As she spoke, she seemed to get even angrier. Yu Yu extended her small hand, attempting to grab the glass back.
Li Qing’s expression shifted instantly. Smelling of alcohol herself, she pinned Yu Yu’s hand down and threw the glass into the trash can. Li Qing said coldly, “Stop being disobedient. This alcohol has a very high percentage.”
She looked at Yu Yu with a warning gaze, her face darkening. Li Qing’s movements were becoming a bit sluggish, but she had sobered up considerably. Her little roommate had started acting out before she even had a chance to throw a drunken tantrum herself.
When her hand was pinned down and the energy transfer began, Yu Yu felt a fleeting moment of happiness. However, that joy did not last more than two seconds before a heavy, dizzy sensation began to spread through her body.
After a few labored breaths, Yu Yu’s cheek gradually slumped against the tabletop. She swallowed hard and cried out through her tears, “Hot.”
Li Qing pulled her up by the hand, feeling irritable. Yu Yu was sobbing so much that she had no strength to stand. The world was spinning around her, and she could no longer hold it in. She let out a loud wail.
Yu Yu’s crying was not the screaming kind. While she was drinking, she had been restrained, but as the intoxication set in, she only made small, rhythmic sounds. It was a soft, delicate whimpering.
Li Qing suddenly felt a surge of panic. This feeling was too fragile. It was nothing like the way Ye Zi would throw a tantrum, howling and hitting Liu Xu before continuing to cry. When Ye Zi cried, Li Qing often felt a headache or pity, but she had never felt this specific sense of unease.
Perhaps realizing that her roommate was simply a delicate person, Li Qing instinctively softened her grip. She supported Yu Yu’s back and said in a dry voice, “Go back to the room and lie down. I will get some water for you.”
“I am thirsty. Waaaah.” Hearing that Li Qing’s tone had softened, Yu Yu began to push her luck. She tearfully made her demands. “My face is hot.”
“Lie down on the bed first, then I will get the water.” Li Qing was still a bit dizzy herself, and her temper had completely evaporated. She did not even know why she was being so stubborn. She blamed herself for inexplicably pouring her heart out to this girl. She was not usually that type of person; it must have been the alcohol. She had actually shared her deepest secret with another person.
The moment Yu Yu lay on the bed, her tears fell even faster. She grabbed Li Qing’s hand, her eyes incredibly red. “Waaaah. My mouth is stinging. I am thirsty.”
“I am going to get you water.” Li Qing rubbed her temples, almost laughing in frustration. Of all the people to provoke, she had to provoke this troublemaker.
“My body is hot too,” Yu Yu added, her gaze hazy.
The little troublemaker had quite a few demands. Li Qing was the one who started drinking first and had consumed far more, yet here she was, the one serving the other.
Li Qing washed her face, the cold water stinging her cheeks. She stared at herself in the mirror, and her complexion looked poor. Ye Zi had said that Li Qing was terrifying when she was silent and that no one dared approach her when she was angry. Li Qing had never thought much of it, but now she felt Ye Zi was right. She took a deep breath, patted her face, and silently filled a basin with water.
By the time she carried the water into the bedroom, Yu Yu had shifted from lying down to sitting up. Her cheeks were still flushed, and she looked dissatisfied when Li Qing entered.
“It took so long. I am so hot. I want to take a shower.”
Li Qing placed the basin on the nightstand and thought to herself that the little troublemaker was actually quite bold. She did not dare let Yu Yu shower alone in this state. Resigning herself to fate, she dampened a towel and wiped Yu Yu’s face. Her fingertips inadvertently brushed against a cheek that was indeed radiating heat. In fact, it was scalding.
After Li Qing wiped her face and neck, Yu Yu finally lay back down, her eyelids becoming heavy. Catching a glimpse of the clock, Li Qing saw it was midnight. She sighed, having no idea how she had wasted several hours on something so bizarre. It made sense that Yu Yu had become intoxicated so quickly, as time had also flown by.
Li Qing’s mind was not in its clearest state, but she remembered the period when she was dazed from the alcohol. She crouched by the edge of Yu Yu’s bed and stared at her face with a complicated expression. During her drunken state, she had seemingly been unable to control her hands, constantly wanting to touch the girl’s face. She had never known she possessed such a habit while intoxicated. She sighed, thinking she would need to control herself in the future. This time it was her roommate, but what about next time?
She forced herself to get up and take a shower. Before lying down, she tucked Yu Yu back in after the girl had kicked off her blankets.
Once she finished, she found herself unable to sleep. Her mind was filled with images of Ye Zi and Liu Xu standing together. To be fair, those two were a perfect match. They had grown up together and knew everything about one another. She truly trusted Liu Xu; he was right for Ye Zi. Yet, the heavy feeling in her chest reminded her that she had not let go.
“Mm.” Yu Yu turned over and whimpered.
Worried, Li Qing got up and turned on the bedside lamp. She was fine, but she was not sure if Yu Yu could handle that level of alcohol. Yu Yu felt like she was sleeping, yet she also felt as though she were still awake. Her head was throbbing, and her body felt light.
A cool touch on her forehead brought a surge of warm energy, making Yu Yu feel much more comfortable and causing her to settle down.
Li Qing frowned, unsure of what to say. Yu Yu’s forehead was hot, but she did not seem to be at the point of falling ill yet. As soon as Li Qing withdrew her hand to lie back down, the girl started crying again. Her breathing was rapid, and tears fell silently. When the cool touch and the energy transfer vanished, Yu Yu opened her eyes aggrievedly.
She saw Li Qing’s helpless face. Her physical discomfort prevented Yu Yu from thinking clearly; she reached out and grabbed Li Qing’s hand. Only when the energy began to flow again did she relax slightly.
Li Qing seemed somewhat repulsed. She silently pried Yu Yu’s fingers away and withdrew her hand. What would people think of two people holding hands in the middle of the night? Furthermore, she was attracted to girls. Li Qing thought that, barring any special circumstances, she should maintain some distance. Otherwise, if her roommate found out later that she liked girls, she might feel uncomfortable. After all, they were not very familiar with each other.
Yu Yu had no idea what Li Qing was thinking. She was shocked that Li Qing would do such a thing and stared at her intently for a long time. Once she confirmed that the woman was determined not to let her touch her, Yu Yu turned over and curled into a ball.
What a stingy person!
Li Qing felt as though she might have been a bit too harsh. She stared at her hand for a moment but did not reach out again. What was done was done.
As she lay in bed, Li Qing recalled Yu Yu’s shocked expression and felt her mood improve slightly. It was a baseless feeling with no logical reason. Not long after, she fell asleep.
However, the concern she had before sleeping came true. The next morning, her roommate’s expression was pained. She was curled up on the bed, her cheeks even redder than the day before.
When Li Qing reached out to check her temperature, Yu Yu remembered the grudge from the night before and scrambled toward the far side of the bed to avoid her touch.
The system began shouting in Yu Yu’s head, “Oh, my god! My dear Host! This is energy! This is energy being served to you!”
Being dodged so directly made Li Qing’s mind go blank for a moment, and her expression changed. “You are sick.”
“It is none of your business!” Yu Yu sniffled, her voice trembling with tears as she held onto the previous night’s grievance. “What do you know? I am sick every day. I will not die from this small illness! Just go to work.”
