She Seems to Struggle with Having a Wife - Chapter 20
“Qing’an, are you listening?”
Ling Xi called out through the phone, her voice tinged with nervous worry, as if she was afraid something had happened to Wei Qing’an.
This kind of concern wasn’t that of an ordinary friend.
At the very least, Yan Huan wouldn’t be this gentle.
Qin Mu’s heart sank. Without a second thought, she moved closer, pressing her hand against the back of Wei Qing’an’s neck and pushing forward with a bit more force. She possessively parted her lips and gently bit Wei Qing’an’s lower lip, her nimble and enticing tongue slowly exploring the edges, trying to break through the barrier.
Wei Qing’an was taken aback by Qin Mu’s sudden action, but with both hands occupied, she wanted to push Qin Mu away but couldn’t free her hands.
“Qing’an? What’s wrong?”
Ling Xi pressed on, her voice now tinged with urgency.
The phone pressed against Wei Qing’an’s ear felt as though it were right beside Qin Mu’s ear as well, a wave of sourness rising in her heart. So, with every call from Ling Xi, Qin Mu deepened her kiss, sucking and nibbling as if deliberately provoking.
Wei Qing’an gradually lost her senses under the kiss, her nostrils filled entirely with Qin Mu’s scent. Her tightly closed teeth slowly loosened, and she began to savor the warmth on her lips.
“Pop.”
A soft sound escaped their nearly fused lips.
Like lotus roots severed but fibers still connected, it was exactly like that.
Qin Mu lowered her head, panting, her lips flushed as if coated with pink lipstick. Before Wei Qing’an could catch her breath, Qin Mu lifted her head and kissed her again. Encouraged by their earlier intimacy, this time Qin Mu directly slipped her tongue inside, teasing and playing with the warmth.
The bedroom, a private space for the two of them, was now filled with a rising atmosphere of ambiguity. Wei Qing’an, thoroughly aroused by Qin Mu, wanted more.
Feeling her fervor, Qin Mu extended her tongue again. Wei Qing’an shuddered, feeling as if her scalp were tingling.
Unable to bear it any longer, Wei Qing’an moved the phone away, hung up, and casually tossed it onto the bed behind her. She then lowered her head, firmly grasping the back of Qin Mu’s head, and took the lead in a dominant, intense kiss. Qin Mu was instantly at a disadvantage.
“Mmm, ah!”
Qin Mu groaned softly, forced to lean back and accept her kiss.
Their breathing grew rapid.
Wei Qing’an, having tasted the sweetness, wanted to set down the cup and embrace Qin Mu to continue their passionate kiss. But Qin Mu suddenly turned her head away, raised her hand to push against Wei Qing’an’s shoulder, shoving her back and taking a step back herself.
“Hmm?” Wei Qing’an looked at Qin Mu with desire-filled eyes, instinctively letting out a dissatisfied hum. The mug in her right hand spilled a few drops of water.
Qin Mu, acting as though she had gotten what she wanted and was now indifferent, wiped her moist lips and said coldly, “You can continue your call.”
With that, she turned and walked away without a moment’s hesitation.
Wei Qing’an stood there in a daze, staring at the cup in her hand, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Wasn’t it Qin Mu who wanted to kiss?
Why did she push her away?
Wei Qing’an stood frozen, looking down at the mug in her hand. Hesitantly, she raised it and took a sip, it was tasteless, just plain water. Then she lifted her gaze toward the door and muttered helplessly, “So, she just came to tease me?”
But she had to admit, she had been thoroughly teased.
And Qin Mu was quite good at kissing.
Wei Qing’an finished the water, picked up her phone again, and sent a message to Ling Xi: “Something came up just now, sorry. Take care.”
After sending the message, Wei Qing’an turned off her phone and continued packing her clothes, but her mind kept replaying the kiss. Moreover, she couldn’t quite understand why Qin Mu had suddenly kissed her.
Qin Mu returned to the living room, her face unflushed and her heartbeat steady as she headed to the kitchen to cook. Her lips were as moist and glossy as freshly ripened cherries. She knew she had done something she shouldn’t have, so she had no intention of explaining herself. If Wei Qing’an asked, she would simply say she had been impulsive and felt like kissing.
For dinner, Qin Mu made pasta, but she didn’t prepare any for Wei Qing’an, since the latter had already sent a picture of her meal earlier in the evening.
As Qin Mu quietly ate at the dining table, Wei Qing’an emerged in her pajamas. She stole a slightly guilty glance at Qin Mu before placing a black gift box beside her and saying, “This is a souvenir. I brought it back especially for you.”
Qin Mu turned to look. The box wasn’t large rectangular, about the length of two palms combined. It was entirely black, with a miniature golden replica of the main gate of the Imperial Capital Museum on the front. On either side were scaled-down versions of two bronze tripods, surrounded by an array of even smaller replicas of artifacts, including jade bowls, bracelets, and gold hairpins. It looked exquisitely crafted.
“May I open it?” Qin Mu asked.
Wei Qing’an nodded. “It’s a gift for you, of course you can.”
Qin Mu reached out, unclasped the lock, and lifted the lid. A meticulously detailed miniature of the entire Imperial Capital Museum appeared before her eyes, complete with every tree and every pathway. Even the layout of each floor inside the museum seemed to be replicated in perfect scale.
Qin Mu’s eyes lit up instantly, and she couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow, it’s so beautiful!”
Especially the five characters for “Imperial Capital Museum” at the entrance Qin Mu had seen them countless times before, and now this miniature version featured the same inscription. For a moment, she felt as though she were standing right at the museum’s entrance, waiting for someone to finish work.
Wei Qing’an smiled contentedly. “I’m glad you like it.”
But Qin Mu didn’t just like it, this place held all the emotions she had felt for Wei Qing’an over the past year.
There were several similar souvenirs in their home, all limited editions, yet compared to this one, they all seemed to pale in significance. Precisely because of this, the gift felt too precious, and Qin Mu couldn’t bring herself to accept it.
Closing the lid, Qin Mu looked up at Wei Qing’an and pushed the box back toward her. “I really love the souvenir, but it’s too valuable. You should keep it for yourself.”
Wei Qing’an hadn’t expected her to refuse and, for a moment, couldn’t find the right words to persuade her otherwise.
She stood there motionless, but Qin Mu paid no further attention. After one last glance at the souvenir, she lowered her head and continued eating.
Wei Qing’an thought for a while, and as she lowered her gaze, she noticed Qin Mu’s cheeks puffing out as she chewed, looking as adorable as a squirrel nibbling on food. Just then, an idea struck her.
“Consider this a thank-you for making me breakfast every day. If you don’t accept it, I won’t eat the breakfasts you make from now on.”
Qin Mu paused, her fork in mid-air, and looked up at Wei Qing’an again. Using her own well-being as leverage wasn’t that reason a bit far-fetched? Couldn’t she have come up with something slightly more convincing?
But Wei Qing’an didn’t seem to care whether Qin Mu agreed or not. After saying her piece, she turned and went back to her bedroom, making it clear that this gift was non-negotiable Qin Mu would accept it whether she wanted to or not.
In the end, Qin Mu didn’t say whether she wanted it or not. Instead, she stored it away with Wei Qing’an’s other souvenirs. Still, she would occasionally take it out to look at it when she had time, as craftsmanship like this was rare in the country.
When it was time to sleep at night, perhaps because Wei Qing’an was beside her, the quilt was filled with a steady warmth radiating from her body. As a result, Qin Mu slept soundly that night without any strange dreams.
While Qin Mu slept peacefully, Wei Qing’an, who shared the same blanket, had a rough time tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
Earlier that night, Qin Mu had suddenly given her a passionate French kiss, leaving her dizzy and overwhelmed with desire, only to abruptly push her away without a word and leave. How could Wei Qing’an possibly sleep peacefully after that?
“Ah,” Wei Qing’an sighed again, turning her head to look at Qin Mu, who was sleeping with her back to her. Could she wake her up now?
The next day, Qin Mu got up early to make breakfast.
Wei Qing’an, sporting dark circles under her eyes, also got up. Last night had truly been a difficult one to endure.
While eating, Qin Mu noticed Wei Qing’an was still in her pajamas and asked, “Aren’t you going to change for work?”
Wei Qing’an took a sip of milk. “Not going today.”
Not going to work?
Qin Mu suddenly remembered what Ling Xi had said the night before.
Were the two of them meeting today?
As she ate her originally delicious sandwich, Qin Mu gradually found it tasteless, as if something was stuck in her throat.
“I’m going to your company today,” Wei Qing’an suddenly said.
“Cough, cough. You said cough, cough!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Qin Mu suddenly covered her mouth, coughing repeatedly. Her shoulders trembled, and her cheeks visibly flushed bright red in an instant.
Wei Qing’an quickly stood up and went over, gently patting her back and handing her the glass of milk. Teasingly, she said, “Are you that excited about me going to your company?”
“No, not at all,” Qin Mu replied, pushing her hand away.
Wei Qing’an smiled, pulled out a tissue for her, and continued gently patting her back until the coughing subsided.
Once Qin Mu stopped coughing, she sat up straight, picked up the glass, and finished the milk, finally feeling some relief in her throat.
“Why are you going to my company?” Qin Mu asked once she caught her breath. It couldn’t be because of her.
Wei Qing’an explained, “Teacher Yan sent me a message last night, saying there’s a professional issue with the project you’re collaborating on and asked if I had time today to come help take a look.”
Why hadn’t Yan Huan asked her about this? Whether personally or professionally, she could have handled the inquiry herself.
After finishing the last bite of her sandwich, Qin Mu wiped her mouth with a tissue and asked, “What time will you arrive? Do you need me to pick you up?”
“If it’s convenient for President Qin, then yes, please.”
“Alright,” Qin Mu agreed.
After breakfast, Qin Mu left for work, leaving the dishes for Wei Qing’an to wash.
Qin Mu finished getting ready and was about to change her shoes at the door when she suddenly thought of something and turned back. She called out to Wei Qing’an, who was washing dishes in the kitchen, “How is the injury on your hand? Do you need me to change the dressing for you?”
Wei Qing’an turned around and raised her right hand to show her. The cut had already begun to form a brown scab. “No need. I saw a doctor while I was away on business, and they said it’s healing well. I just need to focus on preventing scars later.”
“Okay,” Qin Mu said before finally leaving.
At ten in the morning, Wei Qing’an drove to the entrance of Liunian.
She sent Qin Mu a message from her car.
Qin Mu received the message during a meeting where the atmosphere was extremely tense. Colleagues kept their heads lowered, not daring to make a sound so quiet that the drop of a pin would echo in the silence.
“So, no other ideas?” Qin Mu scanned the room with a stern expression.
The pressure in the room intensified by several degrees.
Zhang Fanqi was accustomed to Qin Mu’s cold demeanor during work, so she remained calm inside. Although she wasn’t as fearful as her colleagues, she sat upright and alert, careful not to make a sound, lest she draw unwanted attention.
Just as Zhang Fan was zoning out and feeling drowsy, she noticed a message pop up on President Qin’s phone. Instantly, her groggy eyes snapped open. Before the meeting, Qin Mu had specifically instructed her to notify her if anyone sent a message.
Zhang Fan picked up the phone, maneuvered past several colleagues, and leaned in close to whisper in Qin Mu’s ear, “President Qin, you have a message.”
Qin Mu took the phone, it was from Wei Qing’an.
She said she had arrived.
Qin Mu closed the proposal booklet and stood up. “Let’s adjourn for now. We’ll continue at 4 p.m. this afternoon. If anyone has good ideas, feel free to come to me directly.”
Qin Mu left the office to pick up Wei Qing’an.
As soon as she was gone, the meeting room erupted into a chorus of pained groans.
Qin Mu took the elevator down and spotted Wei Qing’an sitting on a sofa in the lobby, flipping through a magazine. She walked over and gently tapped her shoulder. “Let’s go.”
“Okay.” Wei Qing’an obediently stood up and followed her inside.
