She Said That Kisses and Hugs Are Needed for Redemption [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 34
The hand holding the clothes froze, and Lu Xi felt an uncontrollable panic. She felt completely defenseless against Chi Xingcen’s teasing; it was truly embarrassing.
“Are you shy?” Wrapped in the quilt, Chi Xingcen stared fixedly at the woman whose back was turned to her. From the tightly tensed muscle lines of the arm holding the dress, she could see the woman’s bashfulness and nervousness.
Lu Xi felt helpless. She hadn’t expected Chi Xingcen to directly expose her hidden shyness.
Lowering her eyes, she placed the light blue dress on the bed. She planned to leave first, lest Chi Xingcen feel uncomfortable changing in front of her.
“Wait.”
The person behind her called out. She stopped and turned her head slightly. “What is it?”
Chi Xingcen brushed her long hair behind her ear, revealing her slender, porcelain neck. Her voice was remarkably calm as she said, “You put the dress too far away. I can’t reach it.”
Lu Xi: “…”
Why did she feel like Chi Xingcen was flirting with her? Was it just her imagination?
Then, thinking that perhaps all Omegas in heat acted this way, she pushed the thought to the back of her mind.
She walked to the foot of the bed, picked up the dress, and held it out to Chi Xingcen. Lu Xi kept her gaze steady, looking straight at the clean floor.
“I still can’t quite reach it.” Chi Xingcen stretched her arm out, her fingertips reaching forward, but there was still a small gap between her and the clothes.
Left with no choice, Lu Xi moved closer to the head of the bed. Out of the corner of her eye, she checked if the distance between Chi Xingcen’s hand and the dress was appropriate.
Dainty, curved fingers happened to rest upon the neatly folded clothes. As she gently picked them up, her rounded pinky nail inadvertently brushed against the Alpha’s warm palm.
It was itchy and tingling, like a small electric shock. Lu Xi trembled slightly and retracted her hand with lightning speed.
“I’ll head out first. Try the dress on to see if it fits. If it doesn’t, I’ll have another one sent over.” Her pace quickened as she fled toward the door.
With a click, the door closed again. Chi Xingcen was left alone in the room amidst the messy bed.
Once the footsteps faded into the distance, she withdrew her intense gaze and picked up the dress to examine it.
It was a light blue tight-fitting dress. Beneath the finger-wide straps was a wavy neckline. The loose pleats at the chest showed just how much “potential” the owner of this dress possessed.
No need to guess; this was the Alpha’s dress, as Chi Xingcen had already personally experienced the Alpha’s potential.
The two were of similar height and body type, so the dress fit Chi Xingcen quite well.
Stepping out of the room for the first time, she glanced at the Alpha’s room. The door was tightly shut, and there was no sound from within. She didn’t linger and slowly walked downstairs.
After finishing brunch, a servant led her to the second-floor study, saying the Alpha had something to discuss with her. She had a rough idea of what it was about and pushed the door open to enter.
“Was breakfast alright? Were there any flavors you weren’t used to?” Lu Xi was already seated in her chair. Hearing the movement, she closed the documents in her hand and looked up, watching the girl in the light blue tight dress walk in.
The dress was made of silk with subtle pleats at the waist that perfectly outlined the girl’s slender figure. The hem, which ended just above the knee, was trimmed with white lace. As her straight, slender legs moved, the lace rubbed against her fair skin like an exquisite pattern on the neck of a fine porcelain vase. It was enough to make anyone lose their focus.
It wasn’t until Chi Xingcen sat down across from her that the dazed Alpha snapped back to her senses. She rubbed her nose and diverted her attention.
“Take a look. This is the information we just gathered.” Pushing the laptop on the desk toward Chi Xingcen, Lu Xi finally dared to look at her.
This was the information Lu Xi had ordered Lu Li to investigate two days ago. Her main goal was to let Chi Xingcen know who had given her the lure agent that night.
According to Chi Xingcen’s usual heat cycle, that night shouldn’t have happened. The fact that her pheromones were triggered and her heat was induced early was because someone had been pulling strings in the shadows.
Chi Xingcen knew this herself, but because she had almost no power within the Chi family and was kept under strict watch by her elders for the sake of the engagement party after that night, she had no way to investigate.
She didn’t expect to see the entire process of how she was framed here at the Alpha’s place.
It really was her “dear” younger cousin’s doing.
During the party, while pushing her to drink, the cousin took the opportunity to spike her drink with a lure agent and then had someone support her dizzy self to a pre-booked hotel.
“I took the wrong room card, which is why I opened your door that night.” Actually, it wasn’t exactly a mistake. Chi Yueluo, the Omega from the second branch of the Chi family, wanted to ruin Chi Xingcen’s purity. She had simply instructed the hotel staff to give that room card to the next Alpha who arrived. The hotel staff thought they had an appointment, so when Lu Xi went to the front desk to check in, they simply registered her and gave her the card.
“I’ve always wanted to apologize to you. I’m very sorry about what happened that night.” Lu Xi’s expression was solemn as she lowered her head slightly. “Fortunately, I contacted the hotel in advance to block all news about us, so the impact on you didn’t escalate further.”
Chi Xingcen suddenly understood. It was because the Alpha had intervened that the hotel didn’t leak the news of her staying with an Alpha all night. That was why Chi Yueluo thought the plan had failed and had stayed quiet these past few days, not daring to provoke her.
“As for why Chi Yueluo wanted to ruin your purity, my people haven’t found the exact reason yet, but the guess is that she didn’t want you to marry the second young master of the Ming family.” Seeing the Omega’s grave expression, Lu Xi offered her own logical deduction. “So, are you aware of any personal interests Chi Yueluo might lose if you marry into the Ming family?”
Loss of interests? Chi Xingcen couldn’t help but let out a soft, mocking laugh.
What else could it be for? Wasn’t it just for those meager crumbs of the Chi family?
Her grandfather was currently the one in power. He had two Alpha children: the eldest branch was her father, and the second branch was her aunt. Her father publicly had only her as a child, while the second branch had two: her Omega cousin, Chi Yueluo, and her Alpha cousin, Chi Yanqing.
The Chi family had never valued Omegas, but to maintain appearances during high-society marriages, they usually gave 1% of the shares as a dowry when an Omega married.
However, because the eldest branch only had Chi Xingcen, the Old Master Chi had publicly announced before the engagement that he would give 5% of the Chi family shares to her.
Because of this, everyone else in the family felt their interests were under attack, especially those in the second branch, who were filled with hatred and rage. Unable to talk sense into the Old Master, they could only resort to other methods.
“The shares are mine to keep.” Chi Xingcen gripped the laptop tightly. The mockery on her face faded, replaced by sadness and complexity that made one’s heart ache. “Grandfather gave them to me.”
Her grandfather had been very capable in his youth, single-handedly establishing the Chi family’s foothold in the capital among many prestigious families. But he was old now, and his mind was beginning to fade. Since her Omega grandmother passed away a few years ago, he had become even more forgetful.
Just recently, upon hearing she was about to be engaged, he had a moment of clarity and announced the 5% share as her dowry.
Because the Old Master feared he would forget again, he had already consulted a trusted lawyer that day to handle the document signing. Now that it was legally binding, the 5% of shares would automatically be transferred to her name as soon as she married.
“I won’t let them take it. It’s the thing Grandfather left for me.” Before, Chi Xingcen had been in a daze and didn’t realize how dissatisfied her family was regarding the shares. But after experiencing so much, she now knew that in the face of massive profit, blood ties did not exist.
There were only walking corpses controlled by greed.
She would not be soft-hearted toward those so-called relatives. She wouldn’t just take her own shares; she wanted to hold all the Chi family shares in her hands. She would take her grandfather’s scepter and become the next person in power.
Lu Xi watched the changing expressions on the girl’s face and asked at the right moment, “So, what do you plan to do?”
The Alpha’s voice was clear, like a stream of fresh water washing away the gloom in Chi Xingcen’s heart. Snapping back to reality, she looked steadily at the Alpha across from her. “I might need your help.”
Lu Xi smiled. “What kind of help?”
“Didn’t you tell me that day to get engaged to you?” Chi Xingcen’s gaze locked onto the Alpha’s smiling eyes, and she said word by word, “Get engaged to me. I want to get the shares my grandfather gave me first.”
Didn’t those people hate that she could get so many shares? Then she would make sure to take what was hers to let them know she wasn’t someone to be bullied.
However, because of this, she inevitably had to ask the Alpha in front of her for help.
She actually had her own selfish reasons. She could guess that the Alpha was extremely powerful and didn’t fear the Ming family’s retaliation or the Chi family’s schemes. Thus, in a dark corner of her mind, she wanted to drag the Alpha into the abyss where she resided.
Her thoughts were a mess. Chi Xingcen clasped her hands, her thumbs pressing tightly together. “So, are you willing to get engaged to me?”
Lu Xi was stunned for a moment. This was the first time she had been proposed to by a girl. Although it was mixed with business and interests, she had to admit she was truly quite shy.
“Of course I am.” Her ear tips turned red, and her face felt scalding. The corners of Lu Xi’s mouth curled up uncontrollably as she continued softly, “Helping you is also a way to fulfill my own wishes.”
Chi Xingcen: “?”
Seeing the perfect look of confusion on the girl’s face, Lu Xi coughed twice, a restrained joy swirling in her narrow eyes. “Because I do, indeed, have some feelings for you.”
The events of that night had left her with deep guilt toward Chi Xingcen, but after spending these two days together, she truly liked this girl who seemed weak but had a strong heart.
Alright, she felt that she was probably just being superficial. After all, Chi Xingcen’s face would be among the top tier even in an entertainment industry famous for its beauty. It was only natural for her to be attracted.
“Then, does this count as a confession?” Regarding the Alpha’s direct expression, Chi Xingcen tilted her head and asked her question quite frankly.
