She Said That Kisses and Hugs Are Needed for Redemption [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 14
Lu Xi had taken over this body later, but she had inherited all the original owner’s memories. Whether it was due to something 001 had done or not, she could also sense the various emotions the original owner had experienced in the past.
Thus, even though this was technically her first time meeting Zhiwu, she could still find the appropriate emotional responses from Zhiwu’s playful banter and teasing.
With a hand pressed against Zhiwu’s back, silently pushing her away, Lu Xi curled her lips slightly. “Rather than wasting time chatting with us, Lord Zhiwu, why not hurry and send someone to the mortal realm to investigate the demon disturbances?”
Official matters took precedence, and Zhiwu understood the urgency.
“Also, that maid from Bailan Hall must not be overlooked. She brought us to the Heavenly Realm but didn’t immediately report the matter we came to deliver. There’s likely more to it.”
Lu Xi’s hint was deliberately vague. In front of Fu Lancen, she couldn’t reveal too much, lest Fu Lancen realize how familiar she was with Zhiwu.
Hearing Lu Xi’s words, Zhiwu temporarily set aside her curiosity about “Lan Chen” and wasted no more time, personally going to investigate the matter.
The leaves rustled, and the shallow stream murmured. In the blink of an eye, only Lu Xi and Fu Lancen remained outside the wooden cottage.
In the Ninth Heaven, there was no alternation between day and night, only a dimmer period lasting half a day, which could be considered the time for the immortals to rest.
Now, the surroundings quietly darkened. The fish in the stream lazily swam beneath the rocks, preparing to rest.
Though Lu Xi wasn’t sleepy, she still adhered to mortal habits and needed to sleep. Stepping toward the cottage door, she noticed no movement behind her. Resting her hand on the doorframe, she glanced back at Fu Lancen, who was hesitating in place. “Why aren’t you coming?”
“You!” Fu Lancen looked around before slowly turning her gaze to Lu Xi leaning against the door. Her expression was complicated. “Lord Zhiwu, why did she listen to you so readily?”
Lu Xi maintained a solemn expression. “Lord Zhiwu, as an ancient divine beast, is righteous and compassionate toward all living beings. Naturally, she prioritizes the welfare of the world. Earlier, she was merely trying to gather more details from us, which is why she chatted with us for a while.”
“Even if I hadn’t reminded her, she wouldn’t have continued the conversation. So, she didn’t leave because of what I said. Do you understand?”
This righteous and lofty speech left Fu Lancen momentarily dazed. Just as Lu Xi thought she had successfully glossed over the matter, she saw the girl narrow her eyes, her gaze still filled with doubt. “Do you know Lord Zhiwu?”
Fu Lancen stared intently at the woman’s half-lidded eyes. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the atmosphere between Zhiwu and Lu Xi earlier had been strange.
“We just met, didn’t we?” Lu Xi continued to evade the question. To prevent Fu Lancen from overthinking, she strode over, grasped the girl’s slender wrist, and pulled her into the cottage. “Right now, we should focus on resting especially you. Replenish your energy properly so you can recover what you’ve lost.”
Before Fu Lancen could react, Lu Xi led her to the only bed in the room. With a wave of her hand, the bedding and pillows were replaced with familiar ones. Wrapping an arm around the girl’s shoulders, she pulled her down onto the soft blankets.
“Sleep.”
Pulling the covers over them, Lu Xi buried her head and fell asleep almost instantly, soon drifting into dreams.
The young girl lying beside Lu Xi froze for a long moment before suddenly blushing furiously. She slowly turned her head to the side, only to realize how close she was to Lu Xi just a little more, and her lips would brush against Lu Xi’s cheek.
The proximity was so intimate that the shyness in her heart unexpectedly melted away. Gradually leaning closer, she gazed at Lu Xi’s delicate face, the high bridge of her nose casting a faint shadow on her profile, while her long, curled eyelashes magnified her soft beauty in the dim light.
Fu Lanchen watched quietly.
The more she interacted with Lu Xi, the more she became convinced that Lu Xi was no ordinary cultivator. She had initially thought Lu Xi might be some reclusive immortal, but seeing how effortlessly composed she was within the Boyun Palace, her status was likely even higher than Fu Lanchen had imagined.
It was a pity she had been born too late, too young, and knew too little about the ancient deities and their companions who had long since passed into legend. Thus, she truly couldn’t guess who Lu Xi really was.
But whoever she was, it was unlikely she harbored any ulterior motives toward her. After all, someone acquainted with Lord Zhiwu would hardly spare a glance for a small fry like her.
“So, why did you help me, really?” Unable to figure it out, she lay back on her pillow, murmuring in a voice so soft it was almost lost to sleep.
The next morning.
Outside the opulent White Orchid Hall, petals of white orchids swirled in the breeze, drifting onto gold-trimmed stone tiles before slipping onto the shoulders of a maid who had been kneeling for hours.
Xia Xin had been punished with kneeling all night. Even with an immortal’s constitution, enduring the biting cold wind for so long had taken its toll. Her body trembled slightly, and another orchid petal tumbled from her shoulder, shattering into pieces on the ground.
She thought to herself, just one more hour, and she could finally close her eyes and rest.
But before that hour passed, a clamor rose from behind her.
It grew louder and closer, until it seemed to stop right beside her.
Turning her head sluggishly, she saw two guards from the Boyun Palace approaching her and from the looks of it, they meant to seize her?!
“Even if you’re from the Boyun Palace, you can’t just barge in without Her Majesty’s decree! Our mistress hasn’t even risen yet, you, you’re utterly audacious!” A young maid who had followed them wailed, trying to pull the Boyun Palace guards away.
But they were too lowly to truly defy the palace’s authority. With little resistance, Xia Xin already swaying unsteadily on her knees was hauled up by the guards.
“Last night’s investigation into the unauthorized entry into the Ninth Heaven suggests Xia Xin may not be entirely innocent. We’re merely taking her in for questioning nothing more, and we won’t disturb Her Majesty,” one of the Boyun Palace guards said flatly, brushing past the White Orchid Hall’s attendants. “Unlike you lot, making such a racket, you’ll wake Her Majesty at this rate.”
With that provoking remark, the Boyun Palace guards took advantage of the maids’ stunned hesitation, hoisted the limp Xia Xin, and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Carrying Xia Xin brazenly back to the Boyun Palace, they drew wide-eyed stares from everyone they passed. Soon, whispers spread like wildfire as if some earth-shattering scandal had just been uncovered.
In no time at all, the news that the Cloud-Parting Palace had taken away the personal maid of the Divine Consort spread like wildfire across the Nine Heavens.
Everyone was curious had Xia Xin offended someone from the Cloud-Parting Palace, or had the Divine Consort herself provoked them? Otherwise, given Lord Zhiwu’s usual hands-off attitude, why would he do something so humiliating to a subordinate?
But despite a whole morning of inquiries, no one managed to uncover anything concrete. The only vague rumor was that Xia Xin had concealed something, angering Lord Zhiwu.
“Well, the person’s already been brought here she’s inside,” Zhiwu said lazily, leaning against a tree trunk and tilting his chin toward a nearby cave entrance. “If you have questions, go ask her. If she refuses to answer, just call for me, and I’ll beat her up for you.”
“Stop.” Lu Xi hadn’t expected that even after all these years, Zhiwu would still act so recklessly grabbing Xia Xin without a second thought, completely disregarding the consequences!
Fixing her gaze on the yawning Zhiwu, she spoke with icy calm. “Right now, I don’t feel like beating her up. But I do feel like beating you up.”
