She Said She Has Feelings For Someone - Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Going Home — She will wait.
When Lu Shuyu woke up, it was not yet eight o’clock. The person on the hospital bed was still asleep. Though she moved as quietly as possible, the stillness of the room made the slight noise enough to wake Xia Leshuang.
“Did I wake—” Lu Shuyu started to speak but cut herself off, sounding quite surprised: “You didn’t sleep well?”
Xia Leshuang hadn’t fully recovered yet; her face was still pale, making the dark circles under her eyes painfully obvious and hard to ignore.
The person on the bed paused her hand while rubbing her eyes before saying, “Maybe it’s because I slept too much during the day, so I didn’t fall asleep until very late.”
Hearing this, Lu Shuyu let out a soft laugh. “Seems like you’ve recovered quite a bit if you’re healthy enough to have insomnia. Alright, it’s still early. Sleep a bit longer; I’m going out to get breakfast.”
…
Before lunch, Lu Shuyu accompanied Xia Leshuang for some basic check-ups. By the time they finished, it was exactly lunchtime. Back in the ward, Lu Shuyu asked, “What do you want to eat? I’ll go buy it.”
Xia Leshuang sat on the edge of the bed, her legs dangling, looking incredibly docile. “I want to eat out.”
“Teacher Xia, shouldn’t we have some self-awareness as public figures right now?” Lu Shuyu said helplessly, as if she were talking to a disobedient child. Regardless of what had happened to Xia Leshuang privately, her popularity with the public was soaring. Even when she was brought into the emergency room, nurses had recognized her.
“Let’s not cause trouble for the hospital, okay? And if you get recognized and someone takes a photo to post online, explaining it will be a hassle.”
Her words were a mix of coaxing and persuasion.
Xia Leshuang pursed her lips. “Fine. Then I want KFC.”
…
Lu Shuyu dazed for a moment, suddenly losing the urge to coax or persuade. She took a few steps forward and reached out to pinch one of Xia Leshuang’s cheeks. It was soft, and the texture was quite nice.
“Teacher Xia, did you suddenly turn into a toddler?” She raised an eyebrow. “Do you have to go against me?”
“I want to eat it.” Xia Leshuang looked up at her, as stubborn as a naughty child. But since she just sat there looking up, it made it impossible for anyone to actually “punish” her.
Lu Shuyu lowered her head, suddenly bringing her face very close to those eyes, then narrowed her own eyes and smiled: “No.”
Xia Leshuang froze slightly. Her expectant expression quickly slumped, and combined with her pinched cheek, she looked deeply wronged.
Lu Shuyu laughed at the sight, let go of her cheek, and straightened up. “Stay put. I’ll go ask the doctor. If the doctor says no, then my hands are tied.”
Lu Shuyu left immediately, missing the joy hidden in Xia Leshuang’s eyes.
It seemed that because of that missed phone call spanning ten years, the relationship between the two had undergone a subtle shift. Sweetness began to sprout in Xia’s heart, expanding rapidly into a wave of greed.
If the long-buried feelings in my heart can truly be noticed by that sliver of light…
Xia Leshuang couldn’t help but curl herself up, burying her head in the crook of her arm. The vibrations in her chest spread throughout her body, clear and surging, nearly making it hard to breathe. But even so, she didn’t want to let go; she was afraid that if she did, all the possibilities would vanish with the wind.
Xia Leshuang guarded those feelings fiercely until a small decision formed in her heart—
She would become a little fish hiding at the bottom of the water, silently waiting for Lu Shuyu to cast her hook. No matter if the hook was straight or curved, or even some strange new pattern, she would bite it at the first opportunity. And then, she would never let go.
…
Lu Shuyu did indeed bring back two sets of KFC.
“Eat slowly, chew thoroughly. Don’t eat anything too hard, too sticky, or too spicy, and control the amount.” She carefully repeated the doctor’s orders. “If you can do that, you can eat.”
Xia Leshuang nodded obediently, hugging her legs with a smile. “I can!”
Seeing this, Lu Shuyu couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. “Why are you acting so silly? Get down and eat.”
The two sat on the small sofa, taking food out of the bag and lining it up on the coffee table. Xia Leshuang followed the doctor’s orders strictly, taking tiny bites and chewing slowly. Lu Shuyu kept her eyes on her while quickly finishing her own portion.
Then, Lu Shuyu leaned against the back of the sofa, propped her face on her hand, and began to stare at her intently, unmoving and direct.
Xia Leshuang felt like her heart was going to jump out of her chest from the scrutiny. “Shuyu…” she said helplessly, “Are you planning to just stare at me until I finish?”
Startled slightly by being called “Shuyu,” Lu Shuyu blinked and then nodded: “Of course!”
Xia Leshuang swallowed the food she had been chewing for a long time and whispered, “Okay.”
Although she had to chew slowly, there wasn’t much food, so the meal didn’t take too long. “I’m finished.” Xia Leshuang swallowed the last bite and began to clear the table.
“Finished already?” Lu Shuyu snapped back to reality, feeling a bit unsatisfied. The way Xia Leshuang ate slowly was so docile and cute—it was actually quite adorable. This seemed to be the first time she had seen her like this.
Thinking of this, Lu Shuyu sighed internally. I hope it’s also the last time.
…
In the afternoon, all the test results came out, and the doctor notified them of the discharge. “Next time, you can’t neglect your health just for dieting and weight loss,” the doctor warned. “Even if it’s for your career, you shouldn’t do this.”
“Don’t worry,” Lu Shuyu smiled, “there definitely won’t be a next time!”
After the doctor left, the two quickly packed their things.
“Alright, Teacher Xia, let’s go home.” Lu Shuyu smiled brightly.
Xia Leshuang was momentarily dazed, remembering the night they reunited. She had been too drunk to control herself, clinging to Lu Shuyu out of pure instinct, crying for her to take her home. Back then, the “home” she meant was S-City, her grandmother’s house.
But now… she truly wanted a home with Lu Shuyu. A home they could return to together, one that belonged only to the two of them.
“Okay,” she smiled. “Let’s go home!”
…
It wasn’t until the taxi drove past familiar landmarks and stopped outside a different complex that Xia Leshuang realized Lu Shuyu seemed to have changed her residence.
“This is?” she couldn’t help but ask.
The complex had strict management, and the taxi couldn’t enter. After getting out, Lu Shuyu led her toward the security post at the entrance. “Our new home!” she laughed.
After exchanging her ID for the keys and access card that Min Wutong had left there, the two entered the complex.
“My current place is just a one-bedroom, and the lease is almost up anyway, so it was perfect to just switch to a new one.” Lu Shuyu raised an eyebrow. “President Min is so efficient; I just mentioned it yesterday and it’s all done today. Seems like Teacher Xia carries a lot of weight in President Min’s heart now!”
She winked playfully. “Don’t forget me when you’re rich and famous, Teacher Xia~”
The “weight” she referred to was naturally the profit brought by Xia Leshuang’s fame. Listening to this, Xia Leshuang felt a bit strange. Following the directions Min Wutong had given, Lu Shuyu found the building for the new home.
“Building 19, this is it.”
She swiped the access card and took the elevator to the 20th floor. “The code is 990906.”
The door opened. Xia Leshuang couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity, “Why is that the code?”
Lu Shuyu’s hand on the door froze. Internally, she cursed Min Wutong for being unnecessary. She opened the door and smiled, playing dumb: “Who knows? President Min probably just entered it randomly.”
Xia Leshuang didn’t think so. 9909 was clearly Lu Shuyu’s birth year and month. So what about 06?
The moment she stepped into the foyer, a sudden flash of insight hit her—her own birth year and month was June ’99.
“Wow,” Lu Shuyu was already starting to tour the apartment. “President Min has good taste. The decor is beautiful, and there’s great lighting.”
Swallowing the storm of emotions caused by her guess, Xia Leshuang closed the door and followed the tour. From what Lu Shuyu said, Min Wutong had started helping find this place just yesterday. It was a rush job, but the result was too good to be true. She even suspected Min Wutong had given them one of her own properties.
It was a sun-drenched two-bedroom apartment with a living room in the middle. The lighting was excellent, the decor simple and warm, and the appliances were all provided.
“I’ll head back to my old place in a bit to grab some daily essentials. You rest for two more days, and then we’ll move in together. Chen Qian said she’s finished packing your things and dropped them at my place, so we can move them all at once.”
Xia Leshuang’s rented place in L-City was a small one-bedroom. She didn’t have much stuff, and since Chen Qian had been there several times, she was familiar with it.
“If you’re afraid anything was missed, I can go back there with you one more time.”
As soon as Lu Shuyu finished speaking, Xia Leshuang’s phone rang. After checking it, her expression changed slightly, and she shook her head: “No need. Chen Qian sent photos of everything after it was organized. Doesn’t seem like anything is missing.”
“That works then.” Lu Shuyu nodded. “You rest, I’ll head back to the old place.”
Before Xia Leshuang could respond, Lu Shuyu remembered something else: “Oh right, let’s record your fingerprint first.”
Xia Leshuang’s heart stirred, and she followed her. After the fingerprint was recorded, she suddenly spoke up, bringing up the code Min Wutong had set. “Speaking of which, the code President Min set is quite a coincidence.”
Lu Shuyu’s finger trembled, and the recording failed. She started over, her eyes downcast, asking seemingly casually, “How is it a coincidence?”
“9909 is exactly your birth year and month, and 06 is my birth month. Isn’t that a coincidence?”
Hearing this, Lu Shuyu visibly stiffened. But quickly, she let out an exaggerated “Ah~” and a couple of forced laughs before saying, “Yeah, it is… quite a coincidence. Someone might think President Min is a ‘shipper’ for the two of us.”
She kept her head down to record the fingerprint, her tone sounding very casual. Once the fingerprint was done, Lu Shuyu looked up: “I’m off then. You stay here and be good.”
She ran off immediately after speaking, not waiting for a reply.
Xia Leshuang stood in place, carefully replaying Lu Shuyu’s reaction in her mind. Logically, if the person you liked “shipped” you with someone else, you would definitely be sad. Just like when she found out Lu Shuyu thought she liked Bian Xingyao, she felt like the world was ending and wanted to crawl into a hole.
But Lu Shuyu’s reaction just now was more like the embarrassment of being caught, without a trace of sadness or disappointment.
So—perhaps Lu Shuyu’s feelings for Min Wutong are gradually fading?
Although Lu Shuyu had said personally, “If feelings could be controlled, I would still want to like her,” if enough time passes, could that change? Besides, after learning that she had remembered her phone number for ten years, Lu Shuyu hadn’t shown any disgust or repulsion. She had even taken the initiative to live with her to protect her.
Thinking of this, Xia Leshuang took a deep breath, suppressing the wild fluttering of joy in her heart.
She would wait. She would wait for the day she finally bit the hook.
