She Comes Into My Dreams Every Night - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: True Friendship
Su Huaiwang’s hand rested on Lin Jue’s shoulder, her fingertips faintly pink.
The thin layer of the shirt couldn’t block her heat, nor could it mask Lin Jue’s coldness.
Lin Jue’s glassy eyes shifted diagonally downward.
“Hmm?”
The soft, questioning sound swept past Su Huaiwang’s ear. Her fingertips pressed harder, trembling with unease.
Lin Jue’s eyes moved upward again, seeing, as expected, the flush that connected the other woman’s ear to her neck, accompanied by a faint, misty moisture.
“Sorry, I was too close,” Lin Jue put on her usual smile, trying to comfort Su Huaiwang.
But Su Huaiwang didn’t dare look at her, twisting her head, biting her lip, her frantic, helpless eyes staring at some random corner.
“N-no, it’s fine.”
Lin Jue narrowed her eyes, a sudden tickle rising in her heart.
If only this were a dream. Since she had secretly kissed Su Huaiwang last time, this phrase had been popping up in her mind more and more often.
Lin Jue was silent for a brief moment, then smiled: “Then I should go. Remember to call me if you feel scared.”
“Ah, okay, thank you!”
Su Huaiwang looked up, her gaze quickly sweeping over Lin Jue’s face before dropping again.
Lin Jue was a little disappointed but didn’t show it:
“Remember to eat the pears. Making them into rock sugar-stewed pears is also good for beating the summer heat.”
“Mhm, I know.”
Seeing the woman’s current awkward and reserved state, Lin Jue knew it was truly time to leave.
“Goodbye.”
A feeling of regret gradually accumulated in her heart, and the smile on Lin Jue’s lips faded slightly.
The long period of intimacy with Su Huaiwang in her dreams made her forget the sense of distance in reality, resulting in this big mistake.
How long would it take now to bridge the gap with Su Huaiwang again?
Lin Jue turned to leave. Su Huaiwang didn’t see her off, which made her feel even worse.
“Wait,” the girl stopped, suppressing her anticipation.
“Um…” Su Huaiwang remained in place, speaking to her from a distance.
Seeing her indecision, Lin Jue’s heart sank to the bottom.
“I haven’t told Tu Zhuozhuo about this yet. Could I ask you to keep it a secret from her too? She only knows I was missing for a month, nothing else.”
Lin Jue looked at her, neither saying yes nor no.
Awkwardness once again hung between the two, until Lin Jue took a step toward her.
Su Huaiwang was looking down, unable to see her expression, only feeling her increasingly close presence.
The scent exclusive to Lin Jue rushed over, like a cage, confining her to this small world.
It was also like her last wet dream: urgent, obsessive, yet lingering.
Her breathing quickened, but realizing that the fragrance would make her dizzy, Su Huaiwang hurriedly held her breath again.
Lin Jue stopped.
Su Huaiwang heard her smiling voice:
“So this will be a secret between the two of us?”
Su Huaiwang nodded with difficulty.
“Since that’s the case, even though it’s a bit unfair to Tu Zhuozhuo, I promise you.”
Su Huaiwang breathed a sigh of relief. The familiar scent took the opportunity to rush into her body, and she had to desperately hold that breath again, wanting to cry.
“Should we pinky promise?”
The woman suddenly looked up, staring at the girl in disbelief.
“P-pinky promise?” Her voice was full of surprise and confusion.
“Finally willing to look at me?” Lin Jue still looked happy and smiling, but Su Huaiwang keenly sensed that something wasn’t right.
She stiffened all over: “Why would we…?”
Lin Jue interrupted her: “We don’t have to pinky promise. It is a bit childish. I’ll keep the secret even without it.”
“But, if you ask someone to keep a secret, shouldn’t there be some kind of payment?”
The person before her seemed to have suddenly changed her personality, completely devoid of her usual obedience and gentleness, becoming aggressive and pressing, much like when she had been talking to Lei Yinyin.
Su Huaiwang’s eyelashes fluttered. The sound of her swallowing was clear in the quiet room: “Wh-what do you want?”
“Su Huaiwang,” Lin Jue suddenly called her full name: “We are friends, aren’t we?”
As if triggered, Su Huaiwang’s body jerked. She subconsciously wanted to raise her hand to push the girl looking up at her away.
But she managed to restrain herself, only lightly coughing: “Of course we are.”
“Then why are you so resistant to me getting close to you?”
Lin Jue looked at her fingers tightly gripping the corner of her shirt. The fabric was wrinkled and pitiful.
“A-a-a-am I?” Su Huaiwang stammered, but still tried her best to deny the fact.
Lin Jue remained silent, suddenly reaching out and poking the finger that seemed glued to the corner of the shirt.
“Ah!” Su Huaiwang quickly backed away.
A look of disappointment and grievance appeared on the girl’s pretty face, her cheeks puffed out—a look rarely seen on her.
Su Huaiwang quickly took a step forward: “S-sorry, you startled me. It was too sudden…”
“Then, if it’s not sudden, would it be okay?” Lin Jue watched her for a moment, then extended a hand, palm up: “Hold my hand, okay?”
Okay?
That hand, carved like jade, which had appeared countless times in her dreams, was extended defenselessly before her, asking her to… touch it?
Su Huaiwang had rarely touched this hand, mostly only profaning it in her dreams. Rather than placing her hand on it, she seemed to prefer a different location…
The woman’s hand suddenly landed on it, tightly pressed against the girl’s. The sensation of their skin rubbing against each other was both painful and pleasurable for Su Huaiwang.
“Sorry, my hands are sweaty…” Although she had rubbed them repeatedly, Su Huaiwang’s palms still sweated from nervousness.
“It’s fine.” Lin Jue was satisfied, gently rubbing the tender skin on the side of Su Huaiwang’s finger, feeling her stiff, reluctant acceptance beneath the skin.
Lin Jue released her hand. Su Huaiwang breathed a sigh of relief.
“Then, a hug, would that be okay?” Lin Jue raised her arms slightly, adopting a posture for an embrace.
Su Huaiwang’s heart leaped to her throat again.
Lin Jue waited for a long time, but the action she was hoping for never came.
She wondered inwardly, Is this the extent to which Su Huaiwang can accept her for now?
How much longer would it take for her to be able to make intimate gestures with her as freely as Tu Zhuozhuo did? And when could she turn her dreams into reality?
The thought of Tu Zhuozhuo suddenly put her in a bad mood. She realized she had overlooked one question:
Would Tu Zhuozhuo, as a good friend, do those kinds of things with Su Huaiwang?
A faint black aura restlessly crept out from behind her, only to be forcefully shoved back into her body.
But even with the emotion control, the gloom still uncontrollably spread across her beautiful face.
“It’s okay if you can’t. I’ll still keep your secret.”
Lin Jue shook her head, sadly lowering the arms she had held up for so long.
“No, no, I can, I can! I’m just… nervous! Wait a moment! I’ll be right there!”
Su Huaiwang covered her face with one hand, a flush leaking out between her fingers. Even her voice was off-key.
“Don’t force yourself.”
“I’m not forcing myself! I really can! You know, it’s been a long time since I’ve had this much contact with anyone!”
“But Tu Zhuozhuo…”
“She doesn’t count as a person!”
Lin Jue couldn’t help but laugh, the cloudiness on her face completely washed away: “You now have one more secret you need me to keep.”
“You know what I mean…”
Lin Jue watched her for a moment, her eyes holding an expression Su Huaiwang couldn’t understand, very gentle, yet giving a dangerous illusion: “I know. So, would you like a drink?”
“A drink?” Lin Jue frowned.
“Yes. You are much bolder after you’ve had a drink than you are now. Have you forgotten? You even…”
“Stop! Don’t say it! I’m not drinking! Just close your eyes! Just close your eyes!”
Lin Jue obediently closed her eyes and stopped talking.
Su Huaiwang slowly moved closer to her. The loss of vision didn’t prevent her from mentally outlining Su Huaiwang’s appearance.
However, the outline wasn’t the clothed Su Huaiwang of the moment, but the one in her dreams who begged to be held and kissed, the one who confronted her desires.
But even that Su Huaiwang would forcefully make her close her eyes when doing certain things.
The tongue hidden in her mouth pressed against her canine tooth. The slight pain brought her wandering mind back from the darkness.
Lin Jue raised her arms again: “Are you ready?”
“…Ready.” Accompanied by a mumble, the woman’s arms wrapped around her. Lin Jue landed in the soft body and familiar scent, letting out an involuntary sigh.
Her free arms immediately wrapped around the other woman’s waist eagerly, hugging her back.
“This kind of formal hug makes me feel a little shy,” Su Huaiwang whispered.
“Does it?” Lin Jue remembered how Su Huaiwang would demand a hug in her dreams.
Whether they were making love or not, Su Huaiwang loved to be hugged.
Why can’t she say it out loud in reality?
Su Huaiwang stopped talking, resting her head lightly on the girl’s shoulder, seizing the rare opportunity to savor the unusual embrace.
Even though it was an embrace initially soaked in nervousness, after just a few seconds, that warm feeling returned.
Although she didn’t want to admit it, it seemed she was the one who didn’t want to let go.
As long as Lin Jue doesn’t say anything, I’ll hug her a little longer, Su Huaiwang thought silently.
Lin Jue actually didn’t say a word.
Her frame was small, making her body appear particularly slender, yet surprisingly soft to hold.
Su Huaiwang felt like she was about to get lost in the moment. Her nose instinctively moved toward the other woman’s neck, inhaling the familiar fragrance. Her arms rested limply on the other’s shoulders. Unknowingly, even drowsiness began to rise.
Her eyelids grew heavy. Su Huaiwang had an urge to just fall asleep in the other woman’s arms.
“Are you tired?” Lin Jue’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear, very light and gentle. Her breath tickled her. Su Huaiwang moved her neck uncomfortably.
“Ugh…” Her numb mind couldn’t come up with an appropriate excuse, and she didn’t want to lie.
Fortunately, Lin Jue provided a perfect excuse: “It’s almost time for a midday nap anyway.”
“Mhm.” Su Huaiwang agreed verbally, but her arms holding Lin Jue refused to let go.
“Go take a rest.” Lin Jue patted her back.
Su Huaiwang had no choice but to reluctantly pull away, feigning unwillingness.
“You too. A nap will give you more energy this afternoon.”
“Okay.” Lin Jue smiled and said goodbye.
“Goodbye…”
The door closed, and Su Huaiwang was once again left alone.
The warmth of the recent embrace felt like a persistent ghost, lingering between Su Huaiwang’s arms, urging her to fill the emptiness in her heart.
The woman standing at the door lowered her head, sighed deeply, and turned toward the bedroom.
