She Comes Into My Dreams Every Night - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Be Careful
Xinhe Airport.
The man-made structure was tall and imposing, blocking the sun and keeping the summer heat away from its steel framework. Su Huaiwang looked out the glass window. White clouds were drifting slowly across the vast blue sky, and occasionally a few planes landed from a distance.
She leaned against an airport pillar, checking her phone from time to time.
Just moments ago, Tu Zhuzhu sent a message saying she had gotten off the plane and was getting her luggage.
Su Huaiwang took a deep breath. She was inevitably a little excited to see her long-unseen friend.
Soon, people began to trickle out of the exit. Su Huaiwang spotted Tu Zhuzhu wearing large sunglasses right away.
She stood on her tiptoes, waving at her. Tu Zhuzhu, dragging her suitcase, quickened her pace, a brilliant smile spreading across her beautiful face.
Su Huaiwang jogged over and took the suitcase from her hand: “Tired?”
Tu Zhuzhu immediately gave her a big hug and pretended to complain: “The transfer airport had such terrible service. I only slept for a while, and it made my back and waist ache.”
“I told you to buy a direct flight.”
“I will when I have money.”
Su Huaiwang glared at her. How could a rich young lady like Tu Zhuzhu not have money? She was just stingy. When she usually got starry-eyed over musical instruments, she never seemed to think about whether she had money.
Tu Zhuzhu didn’t mind the glare and cheekily reached out to rub her face: “Your skin is getting better and better. The mountains really are good for people!”
Then, she moved her exquisitely made-up face closer: “Look at me, my skin is so bad, I can’t even cover it up.”
Su Huaiwang pushed her face away: “You couldn’t sleep well but still had time to put on makeup?”
“Of course I have to wear full makeup to see you! Our friendship is worth it!” Tu Zhuzhu draped one arm over her shoulder, looking utterly righteous.
Su Huaiwang looked at her helplessly and tried to struggle free but couldn’t.
Actually, Su Huaiwang was quite strong, but Tu Zhuzhu’s physique was even better.
She was 178 cm tall, a full ten centimeters taller than Su Huaiwang, and looked slender but was actually all muscle. This young lady liked to hit the gym in between playing music.
“So, you’re going to wake up at six every morning to put on makeup while staying at my place these few days?”
Hearing this, Tu Zhuzhu’s expression immediately shifted. A bright and stunning beauty instantly turned into a cheap-looking fly rubbing its hands together. Su Huaiwang felt sorry for her.
“Of course not. How could I bear to waste myself like that? It would break your heart! These few days I need to properly absorb the essence of nature and try to get my natural skin back!”
She looked like she had seriously reflected on the matter, but Su Huaiwang mercilessly shattered her illusion:
“The mountains don’t nourish people; getting out of the working grind does. If I remember correctly, you have an interview in a week.”
Tu Zhuzhu instantly wilted: “Can we please not talk about that? Just let me relax for a few days…”
Although her family was wealthy and had more than enough to support her, her parents just didn’t like their daughter looking idle and forced her to interview at an educational institution.
“Alright, alright. Stay at my place these few days. You can live your vampire life, sleeping at ten in the morning and waking up at ten at night, it’s fine.”
Su Huaiwang dragged her suitcase and walked ahead. Tu Zhuzhu followed, pulling another suitcase:
“Really? You’re so tolerant of me? Won’t I disturb your sleep?”
Su Huaiwang paused:
“My sleep has been… quite good recently.”
Ever since Lin Jue intruded into her dreams, she hadn’t had a nightmare, and the dark circles under her eyes had completely disappeared.
“That’s great! Then I’m going to play your piano! Have you taken good care of it!”
Perhaps artists are most inspired at night, and Tu Zhuzhu also had a bad habit of playing the piano late at night.
The thought of being able to play the piano at midnight made her hands itch. She didn’t have the luxury of playing late every night when she lived in an apartment overseas.
Su Huaiwang looked at her: “I haven’t had anyone tune it. You’ll have to do it yourself.”
Tu Zhuzhu patted her chest confidently: “No problem!”
“No playing after midnight.”
The tall beauty immediately slumped: “Why?!”
Su Huaiwang looked at her strangely: “Why what… I need to sleep?”
She didn’t have the luxury of dedicating a soundproof music room in the house. Her piano was just placed in an open area on the first floor diagonally across from her room, used as a decoration.
In fact, she had almost thrown it away when clearing out the old house.
She never had talent in this area, and the years of learning piano in her childhood were undoubtedly painful for her. Even now, when she touched the piano, her fingers sometimes felt phantom pain, as if her mother’s ruler had just struck her hand.
But without this piano, she wouldn’t have met Tu Zhuzhu.
She and Tu Zhuzhu became acquainted in their humble beginnings, at a children’s piano class. The young lady cried and insisted she wouldn’t learn alone, so her family reluctantly enrolled her in a small class. There were four of them, and Tu Zhuzhu naturally became good friends with the then less taciturn Su Huaiwang.
This friendship has continued to this day.
So her feelings toward the piano were complex.
In the end, she kept it, but rarely played it.
Almost no one dislikes music; what is hated are the memories that echo with the music.
While she was lost in her memories, Tu Zhuzhu had already been chattering away for a long time. Su Huaiwang listened for a moment and realized that the other person had almost perfectly planned their entire week’s activities.
“…We’ll have an outdoor BBQ! The environment near your house is perfect for it! Let’s invite your neighbor too, it’ll be a blast!”
Su Huaiwang interrupted her helplessly: “Is that BBQ going to be a buffet for mosquitoes?”
“Don’t worry! I’ve thought about that too! Super powerful mosquito repellent! I’ve already ordered it! It’ll be delivered tomorrow along with the ingredients and equipment!”
“Isn’t it a bit dangerous to have those two things delivered together?”
“Oh come on! Why are you worrying about everything! You’re only twenty-five! Not sixty-five! You should have confidence when you’re young!”
Tu Zhuzhu said earnestly, reaching out to pull down the seatbelt.
Su Huaiwang started the car. The SUV, which was almost brand new from infrequent use, immediately let out an excited roar.
“Is youth really a person’s confidence? I thought money was,” she said mercilessly.
“You have so much money already, why are you still thinking about money! Think more about the sky! The ocean! The forest!”
Tu Zhuzhu was getting dramatic. If Su Huaiwang wasn’t driving, she might have grabbed her hand and gone on an exaggerated rant.
“The laws of our country stipulate that these all belong to the state and the people. I advise you not to have any delusions.”
Su Huaiwang casually replied while driving.
Her mind was always particularly relaxed when she was with Tu Zhuzhu.
Because they were close, she didn’t have to carefully consider every word she said. Tu Zhuzhu’s personality was also carefree, enthusiastic, and generous, easy to understand. Su Huaiwang could say whatever she wanted freely.
Having received nine years of compulsory education and seven years of higher education, Su Huaiwang’s educational level was clearly higher than Tu Zhuzhu’s, who only aimed for a passing grade. After a few rounds of sparring, a few simple sentences were enough to utterly defeat Tu Zhuzhu.
Seeing that Tu Zhuzhu was about to shrink into a corner of the passenger seat and draw circles, Su Huaiwang appropriately changed the subject:
“But why do you suddenly want to have a barbecue?”
Tu Zhuzhu had never had this idea before, which was why Su Huaiwang didn’t have BBQ equipment at home. After all, Tu Zhuzhu was the type to act on impulse. Even now, the baseball and softball equipment Tu Zhuzhu suddenly bought two summers ago was still lying in Su Huaiwang’s warehouse.
Tu Zhuzhu’s depression came and went quickly. Hearing Su Huaiwang say this, she immediately jumped out of the corner, beaming:
“Well, that’s because we have an extra person now!”
“What do you mean, an extra person…” Su Huaiwang saw her eyebrows furrowing in the rear-view mirror. She had a bad feeling.
“Hey! You really don’t get it! A BBQ with two people isn’t fun! Now that we have three people, we can have fun!”
No sooner had Tu Zhuzhu finished speaking than an emergency brake jolted her brain smooth. If she hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt, her already full forehead would probably be even more bruised.
At the red light, Su Huaiwang leaned on the steering wheel, looking helpless.
Sure enough, she had included Lin Jue.
“I mean, you don’t even know her yet.”
“How can you say I don’t know her?” Tu Zhuzhu was dissatisfied: “Didn’t we talk on the phone last time?” Although the other party’s attitude had thoroughly frozen her, Tu Zhuzhu was always an optimistic person.
“A friend’s friend is a friend, and you two are so close. Is it hard to hang out together?”
“Are we close? How come I didn’t know? Isn’t it just a simple… neighbor relationship?” Su Huaiwang felt a little guilty and squeezed her legs together.
“Wow, don’t tell me I don’t know you well enough. Normally, you wouldn’t go for a walk with a neighbor or invite a neighbor to eat at your house!” Tu Zhuzhu looked like she was biting a handkerchief: “She’s taking my spot, you know!”
“So? What do you want?”
Tu Zhuzhu raised her heroic eyebrow, and her face immediately changed, becoming seductive and charming. She extended a small finger and slid it up and down Su Huaiwang’s arm: “Baby, I don’t mind three people…”
Su Huaiwang was so disgusted she flinched and shouted: “I’m driving!”
Tu Zhuzhu retracted her hand, but her eyes still held that charming, sickening look: “Fine, I know you’re tired of me, and you’re hiding your new love interest, not wanting to show her to me.”
Su Huaiwang was forced into a corner and had to compromise: “Go ask her yourself. If she refuses, don’t pester her.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t embarrass you. I’ll definitely ask when you’re not around, so then if she hates anyone, it’ll be me, not you.”
Tu Zhuzhu seemed to understand what she was thinking. The final “not you” was said in a cheap way, and she snickered afterward.
“Ugh!” Su Huaiwang sighed heavily to express her condemnation.
“Don’t be angry, I know you care about her. I won’t do anything excessive. Love you, baby!” She threw a wink at Su Huaiwang, who stiffened her neck in denial:
“I don’t care about her. She’s just a neighbor.”
“Right, right, I got it, I got it.” Tu Zhuzhu perfunctorily agreed, put on her large sunglasses, and hummed a song while opening the window to feel the breeze.
Su Huaiwang sat in the driver’s seat, wanting to say something but afraid Tu Zhuzhu would misunderstand further. In the end, she could only shut up and sighed heavily again, as if trying to exhale all the pent-up frustration in her heart through the sigh.
