Senior, Stop Pretending to be an Alpha - Chapter 47
Yu Qiao looked down at the business card. The gold-embossed font stood out on the paper, written in a flamboyant, sweeping script.
Feixue Technology Network Co., Ltd., CEO, Qin He.
She had some impression of this name; she remembered seeing it on the campus recruitment list. It seemed to be a game company that had just risen to prominence in recent years.
Yu Qiao looked up and gave a polite nod. “Hello.”
Qin He maintained the gesture of handing out the card and smiled. “Don’t want to get to know each other?”
From the first moment she saw Yu Qiao, she had become curious.
This girl looked like a student and was dressed quite plainly, yet she had entered together with the Xie family.
Unless they were celebrities in high-society circles, people who could attend this kind of banquet usually met certain criteria. Yu Qiao’s temperament, however, did not fit any of those conditions at all.
Ordinary people simply had no chance of getting close to Xie Bufei.
Were they friends? Or… some other relationship?
She sized Yu Qiao up discreetly. The girl before her had clear eyes, unlike the “old foxes” who had been out in society for years. Every movement carried a sense of youthful, green elegance unique to the young.
“Can you tell me your name?”
Yu Qiao thought for a moment and accepted the card. “My name is Yu Qiao.”
She remembered what her mother had said: one more connection meant one more path. This person might be able to help with something in the future.
Qin He asked, “Still in school?”
Yu Qiao: “Yes.”
“Which school?”
Yu Qiao looked at her and said, “A University.”
Qin He smiled, her interest deepening. “A University? What a coincidence, that’s my alma mater.”
She picked up a glass of champagne from a nearby table and took a sip. “I really miss my school days.”
Yu Qiao was curious. “Which department was President Qin in?”
“I studied Computer Science,” Qin He said. “Software Engineering—a major that makes one go bald.”
Yu Qiao was surprised. “I’m also from the College of Computer Science.”
Qin He blinked, her red lips curving upward. “Then I didn’t guess wrong. You look like you came from a STEM background.”
She leaned closer to Yu Qiao and said in a low voice, “If you encounter any problems with your studies in the future, you can find me.”
The two chatted casually for a few minutes before Qin He was called away by a colleague. Before leaving, she asked Yu Qiao to take down her WeChat ID.
Yu Qiao bid her goodbye and turned around, only to see Xie Bufei walking over through the crowd.
She looked a bit unwell, her expression exceptionally cold. Her gaze was firmly locked onto Yu Qiao, radiating an aura that repelled people from a distance.
Yu Qiao looked at her, bewildered. “Senior?”
Xie Bufei stopped aggressively in front of her and pursed her lips. “What… what did you say to her?”
As soon as she spoke, her momentum softened by half.
Xie Bufei recalled the scene just now. That woman looked quite beautiful and had even given a business card.
Yu Qiao not only accepted it but was also talking and laughing with her, without glancing toward her even once.
For the first time, she hated her own good eyesight. She had seen everything, and the sourness in her heart was suddenly churning like an overwhelming tide, with nowhere to vent.
Did Yu Qiao prefer this kind of more mature woman?
Wasn’t that woman just a few years older with a decent figure? Hmph, what’s so great about that?
Why are you leaning so close to Yu Qiao! You rogue!
Yu Qiao said, “It was nothing, just a few words of conversation.”
Xie Bufei snapped out of it and said stiffly, “You two seemed to be chatting quite happily.”
She might as well have written the words “I am unhappy” across her forehead.
Yu Qiao was confused. “Not really.”
“You were,” Xie Bufei insisted. “I clearly saw you smiling.”
Yu Qiao realized and said, “Because I just found out that President Qin is from the same school as us.”
Xie Bufei: “Oh, such a coincidence? So you called her Senior Qin too?”
Yu Qiao shook her head. “No, I didn’t call her that.”
Seeing her looking so innocent, Xie Bufei felt as if she had punched a ball of cotton—it didn’t hurt or itch.
“Did… did you add her on WeChat too?” she asked with a mix of anger, urgency, and jealousy.
Yu Qiao nodded and said, “I think she might be able to help in the future.”
Xie Bufei said impulsively, “I can help you too!” Don’t add her!
Yu Qiao opened her lips slightly, suddenly realizing something. She asked cautiously, “Senior, are you unhappy?”
Xie Bufei looked away, staring at the ground, and didn’t speak.
Yu Qiao licked her dry lips and said softly, “Today is your birthday, don’t be unhappy. I won’t talk to her anymore, okay?”
She didn’t even ask why Xie Bufei disliked Qin He; she simply wanted to make Xie Bufei happy.
After a moment of silence, Xie Bufei suddenly sighed, as if giving up on something. She looked up at her. “Forget it, I’m not angry anymore.”
After all, they were just friends. From her standpoint, she had no reason to be randomly jealous.
She tried to reason with herself. It was normal for Yu Qiao to interact with others. This “Little Wood” was so outstanding that more and more people would surely like her in the future.
She couldn’t stop Yu Qiao from talking to strangers every single time, could she?
But she was still sour. Just thinking about the possibility of Yu Qiao liking someone else made her restless.
Yu Qiao breathed a sigh of relief and said, “Okay.” She paused, looked around, and asked, “Where is Tang Sijia?”
Xie Bufei froze. “You know her?”
“She is my classmate,” Yu Qiao said quietly. “She has always liked you.”
Xie Bufei blinked and said, “Oh…”
Yu Qiao watched her, her throat moving slightly. “How was your chat?”
“It was alright,” Xie Bufei said casually. “Xie Hongxin wanted to introduce her to me before as a marriage partner. He was watching from the side earlier, so I couldn’t get away for a while. Tang Sijia just left for something, so I had the chance to come find you.”
Yu Qiao’s heart sank. “Marriage partner…”
With Xie Bufei’s family background, they indeed favored partners of equal social standing.
“I won’t be with her.”
Xie Bufei let out a scoff and tilted her chin up. “Whatever Xie Hongxin wants me to do, I will do the opposite just to spite him.”
Yu Qiao felt a sudden sense of relief and said, “Good.”
She asked as if casually, “Then, does Senior like the type of girl like Tang Sijia?”
Xie Bufei was a bit surprised and tilted her head to look at her. “Why would you ask that?”
The corners of her lips curled up, and a smile rippled in her eyes. “I have no interest in those little girls who love to play mind games.”
“I just like someone who is dumb, but not completely dumb.”
Yu Qiao thought to herself, Your criteria for a partner are simply too strange.
She fell into deep thought: how could she make herself both smart and dumb?
The two returned to their seats. The banquet began, and waiters started serving dishes one after another. The round table was filled with delicacies.
As the atmosphere grew lively, a huge white cream cake tower was pushed out by two people and delivered to Xie Bufei’s table.
The people sitting at this table were all distant relatives and neighbors of the Xie family, young and old alike. A young boy in a suit stood up, a flattering smile on his face. “Cousin, happy birthday.”
Several others also stood up to offer their congratulations. Xie Bufei responded indifferently; she didn’t seem close to them.
“You guys can share the cake, I don’t like eating it,” she said lazily, then whispered to Yu Qiao, “I’m going to the restroom.”
Yu Qiao nodded and watched her walk out, her slender figure disappearing at the end of the corridor.
The young people cut the cake and shared it cheerfully.
Yu Qiao sat quietly in her seat and was also given a piece. She picked up her fork when someone suddenly walked up to her side, speaking sharply. “Yu Qiao, why are you here?”
Yu Qiao looked at her and frowned. “Tang Sijia.”
Tang Sijia looked at her outfit with a scrutinizing gaze, raised her chin, and gave a mocking laugh. “This isn’t a place where you should be, is it? How did you sneak in?”
“Don’t you feel ashamed sitting in the Xie family’s seat?” she added. “The people sitting here are all influential figures. A poor student like you…”
“Senior invited me,” Yu Qiao interrupted her, even offering a small smile. “She invited me to her birthday.”
Tang Sijia’s expression changed. “How is that possible?”
Yu Qiao no longer saw her as a love rival and said calmly, “Because Senior and I are friends.”
Tang Sijia widened her eyes and muttered, “Liar…”
She knew Yu Qiao and Xie Bufei saw each other often, but she didn’t know their relationship had already reached this level.
Xie Bufei actually invited her to the birthday banquet? Unbelievable!
It must be that Yu Qiao pestered her relentlessly to get a spot!
Thinking about how she had gotten Xie Bufei’s WeChat today, Tang Sijia puffed out her chest slightly and said proudly, “So what? Xie Bufei and I are also friends.”
“Don’t blame me for being harsh, but with your status, you aren’t worthy of pestering her.” She tossed her elegantly styled curls and sneered. “Stay away from the Xie family in the future!”
Yu Qiao looked at her calmly, appearing completely unprovoked, and said indifferently, “In your dreams.”
Tang Sijia’s face darkened.
She stepped forward, grabbed Yu Qiao’s arm, and pulled outward with force, shouting, “Get out!”
As a petite Omega, she couldn’t move Yu Qiao at all despite using all her strength, and her face turned red from the effort. The latter sat on the chair, looking at her expressionlessly.
“Hey, what are you doing?” several members of the Xie family nearby said displeasedly. “This is the Eldest Miss’s guest!”
They had seen with their own eyes that Xie Bufei led her in and behaved intimately with her. They knew at a glance she was a distinguished guest they shouldn’t offend.
Tang Sijia’s arrogance instantly vanished, and she said hesitantly, “But…”
“But what? Who are you? Don’t come here causing trouble!”
As a young miss, Tang Sijia had never suffered such a grievance. Her eyes instantly turned red with anger.
She looked toward the door and saw Xie Bufei walking over. She immediately approached her and said softly, “Senior Xie…”
Xie Bufei looked at her, thought for three seconds, and said, “Tang Sijia?”
Tang Sijia forced a smile, her expression looking pitiful. “It’s nothing, it just seems like I’m not very welcome here…”
Xie Bufei raised an eyebrow, ignored Tang Sijia’s performance, and looked at Yu Qiao. “What happened?”
“A small conflict arose,” Yu Qiao said. “She wanted me to leave.”
Tang Sijia bit her lip, her eyelashes trembling, and said stubbornly, “I didn’t say that.”
A light laugh suddenly came from the side. She saw Xie Ke tilt her head and say, “You did say that! I just heard you say Yu Qiao doesn’t deserve to sit here and told her to get lost.”
Yu Qiao frowned and met Xie Ke’s gaze. The other looked at her innocently with a bright smile.
Tang Sijia’s face turned deathly pale. “I didn’t mean it that way. I just felt that Yu Qiao was causing trouble here, she…”
“Trouble? Yu Qiao is my friend. Who do you think you are?”
Xie Bufei turned to Tang Sijia and interrupted her expressionlessly. “We indeed do not welcome you.”
Tang Sijia left dejectedly, not forgetting to give Yu Qiao a harsh glare before she departed.
After finishing the meal hurriedly, the birthday banquet also came to an end. Xie Bufei had the driver take Yu Qiao home. Upon saying goodbye, Yu Qiao suddenly asked, “Did Senior not make a wish today?”
Xie Bufei blinked and said, “Oh, I forgot just now.”
Yu Qiao glanced at the time and said, “It’s still not too late.”
She took out a slender candle from her bag, the kind that should be placed on a birthday cake, and then took out a small lighter, pressing it to ignite it.
The flame danced in her dark, bright eyes, illuminating her profile in a warm red glow.
Xie Bufei was stunned. “Where did you find that?”
“I picked it up while eating earlier,” Yu Qiao said. “Since Senior didn’t eat the cake, the candles weren’t used.”
Xie Bufei pursed her lips and smiled. “I rarely eat cake.”
She used to love it and looked forward to her birthday every year, but later she stopped. Because she discovered that it seemed no one was sincerely wishing her a happy birthday, and not a single wish she made ever came true.
“Make your wish now,” Yu Qiao said, looking at her intently. “It will definitely come true.”
Xie Bufei: “Why?”
Yu Qiao said, “Because I want to help you realize it.”
Xie Bufei froze and looked at her fixedly for a long time. Suddenly, she smiled. “Alright then.”
The young girl closed her eyes. The bright firelight traced her beautiful features, like a faded old photograph, gentle and serene. She took a deep breath, her lips trembling slightly, and in the next second, she opened her eyes and blew out the candle.
Yu Qiao looked at her with some expectation. “What was the wish?”
Xie Bufei gave a mischievous smile. “If I tell you the wish, it won’t come true.”
Heaven above, I hope a certain idiot realizes things soon.
