Senior, Stop Pretending to be an Alpha - Chapter 26
After having her head gently ruffled, Xie Bufei’s heart skipped a beat, and her eyes suddenly widened.
Yu Qiao gave a small smile at her reaction and turned to leave.
She didn’t know why she had suddenly acted that way herself.
Perhaps it was simply because she didn’t want to see Xie Bufei look lonely—like the time they talked about Xie Ke. Even though Xie Bufei had been smiling then, she hadn’t looked happy. Regardless of what it took, Yu Qiao wanted to make Xie Bufei feel a little better.
She didn’t see Xie Bufei behind her quietly lowering her eyes, her cheeks flushed a soft pink, appearing utterly helpless.
The girl pursed her red lips and sighed softly, “Really… so silly.”
The next day, Saturday.
Yu Qiao hadn’t forgotten that today was her appointment with Xie Bufei. Since they had agreed to go to Cheng Yeli’s place, she made a point of getting up early.
Lu Yun had just gotten up to wash, while Yao Rudong was still deep in her dreams, sprawled out on the bed and emitting long, rhythmic snores.
The metal bunk beds in the dorm tended to creak when climbing down, so Yu Qiao lightened her steps, slowly tiptoeing until she landed safely on the floor and headed quietly toward the balcony.
At the sink, Lu Yun was brushing her teeth. Hearing the sound, she looked back and said, unfazed, “Up so early again? Going to a part-time job?”
“No.” Yu Qiao picked up her mouthwash cup and leaned down to fill it.
Watching the clear water splash from the faucet into the cup, she said, “I’m going out with Senior.”
Lu Yun paused, turning to look at her. “A date?”
“What are you thinking…” Yu Qiao laughed. “I’m going to Senior Cheng’s to pick up Curry’s things.”
“Oh…” Lu Yun nodded, spitting out the foam. “Actually, there’s something I’m really curious about.”
Yu Qiao squeezed toothpaste onto her brush and asked casually, “What is it?”
Lu Yun: “How did you and Senior Xie become so close?”
Yu Qiao thought for a moment. She couldn’t quite describe the feeling, so she could only say, “I’m not sure myself. I just feel like Senior and I really click.”
“Xie Bufei is usually such a proud person, yet she’s so good to you, playing the hero and saving the damsel repeatedly. Even I find it a bit hard to handle.”
Lu Yun let out a tsk, her tone meaningful. “If it weren’t for the fact that you’re both Alphas, I would really suspect…”
Brushing her teeth, Yu Qiao asked unclearly, “Suspect what?”
Lu Yun leaned against the wall and said leisurely, “Suspect that she has feelings for you.”
Yu Qiao’s eyes snapped wide. Caught off guard, she choked and began to cough violently.
She struggled to regain her breath, her face turning bright red—whether from choking or embarrassment. “H-how is that possible?”
Lu Yun nodded. “I think it’s unlikely too, so it’s just a guess.”
She added, “A ‘hardcore top’ like Xie Bufei should prefer soft, sweet Omegas. Qiaoqiao, you’re a bit far off from that standard…”
Xie Bufei, a hardcore top?
Yu Qiao recalled what happened last night and went silent.
Thinking her roommate likely had more emotional experience than herself, she asked, “Senior said she likes smart people—preferably the ones who are a bit ‘silly’… Do you know what that means?”
Lu Yun froze for a second. “She told you that?”
“Mm.”
“Let me think…”
Lu Yun stroked her chin thoughtfully. “Smart and silly are antonyms… Hmm, she probably means being smart in some ways and silly in others. But there’s no absolute answer to that kind of question.”
After hearing this, Yu Qiao felt even more confused. With white toothpaste foam still at the corners of her mouth, she stared at her blankly.
Seeing her lack of understanding, Lu Yun added, “For example, someone might be very intelligent but very dense or clumsy when it comes to feelings, or vice versa.”
Yu Qiao finally understood, but she knit her brows in disapproval. “Why would anyone like someone like that? Wouldn’t it be exhausting?”
“Maybe it just hits her ‘cute’ spot?” Lu Yun shrugged. “The goddess’s taste is truly extraordinary… Anyway, I don’t get it.”
Yu Qiao nodded deeply. “I don’t get it either.”
After finishing breakfast, Yu Qiao changed clothes to head out. While changing her shoes, she sent a message to Xie Bufei: “Senior, I’m ready to leave. Where should I meet you?”
A moment later, Gary replied: “You’re so fast! I’m still doing my makeup… Why don’t you just come to 401 to find me?”
Yu Qiao headed upstairs.
The dormitory had seven floors in total. Students in their second and third years lived on the fourth floor and above. Along the way, she encountered several girls in pajamas carrying buckets down to do laundry; they looked sluggish, not quite awake yet.
Yu Qiao stepped onto the final stair. The morning light spilled across the long hallway of the fourth floor. In the distance, the surrounding mountains were turned into dark silhouettes by the hazy morning mist.
The door to room 401 was slightly ajar. Yu Qiao hesitated for a moment, feeling inexplicably nervous. She took a deep breath and knocked.
“Senior, are you there?”
The next second, Xie Bufei’s bright voice rang out: “I’m here, come in.”
Yu Qiao paused, then pushed the door open gently.
The room was bright, clean, and tidy. Xie Bufei was sitting at her desk combing her hair, which cascaded down like a black waterfall.
She looked back and gave a radiant smile. “Qiaoqiao, you’re here!”
Yu Qiao stood in place somewhat awkwardly and nodded. Xie Bufei waved her over, her white, slender finger tapping the empty seat beside her. “Come and sit.”
Yu Qiao walked over and sat down. Being very close to Xie Bufei, the faint, sweet scent of lily of the valley drifted around her nose.
The wall in front of the desk was covered in light blue wallpaper. Small storage boxes were neatly organized on one side, with a few music scores resting beneath them. The lamp on the desk was shaped like a flower petal, small and cute.
Bathed in the dim, yellow light, Xie Bufei glanced at her and asked, “Did you eat breakfast yet?”
“I did,” Yu Qiao said. “What about you, Senior?”
“Not yet, I’ll eat in a bit.” Xie Bufei squinted and smiled, looking left and right into her vanity mirror. She turned to Yu Qiao. “What do you think of me today?”
She was wearing a loose dark blue hoodie with long sleeves that almost covered her fingertips. Her fluffy long hair fell over her shoulders, looking soft and accentuating her exquisite, vivid features.
Yu Qiao studied her for a while and said sincerely, “You look very beautiful.”
Xie Bufei blinked and laughed softly. “But I haven’t even put on makeup yet.”
Yu Qiao said, “But Senior is already very beautiful.”
Xie Bufei curled her lips into a brilliant smile. “Qiaoqiao, do you know how to do makeup?”
Yu Qiao shook her head; this was a complete blind spot for her.
“Then I’ll teach you in the future.”
Xie Bufei leaned closer to her. Her dense, warm gaze traveled from Yu Qiao’s eyes to the bridge of her nose, finally resting gently on her lips.
Her gaze was so focused that Yu Qiao’s breath hitched and her lips trembled. It felt like being pursued by something she couldn’t escape.
Suddenly, Xie Bufei’s eyes curved, her lashes thick and curled. Her eyes rippled with a starlit smile, so beautiful that it was impossible to look away. The bright morning light poured in from the window, drenching her and making her features look hazy, while the fine hair on her cheeks was dyed a pale gold.
Xie Bufei’s voice was soft, her gaze captivating: “Actually, you’re just fine the way you are.”
Yu Qiao stared at her blankly.
The next second, a voice rang out in the quiet room: “Are you two in a relationship?”
The charming atmosphere vanished instantly. Xie Bufei’s expression soured as she said flatly, “You’re still awake?”
Bai Yi poked her head out from the bed, her thick long hair hanging down in a messy tangle, looking somewhat eerie. “I woke up the moment she walked in.”
Yu Qiao froze, stammering, “Was I too loud?”
“No, it’s just because I’m a light sleeper,” Bai Yi yawned. “Are you Feifei’s girlfriend? Nice to meet you, nice to meet you.”
“No, that’s not it…” Yu Qiao found herself unable to explain.
Xie Bufei slapped away Bai Yi’s outstretched hand and said succinctly, “This is Bai Yi, my roommate. This is Yu Qiao, my junior.”
“Oh, a junior?” Bai Yi sat up straight and scratched the back of her head. “Then I misunderstood.”
Yu Qiao nodded politely. “Hello, Senior Bai.”
“Just call me Bai Yi,” Bai Yi smiled, then asked, “Wait, is she really just a junior? Feifei, you never taught me how to do makeup before.”
Xie Bufei looked up at her, arms crossed. “Don’t you already know how?”
“True…” Bai Yi nodded, then felt something was off. “But when I asked you before about the best way to draw eyeliner, you didn’t tell me either.”
Xie Bufei replied, “That’s because you’re too clumsy to learn.”
Bai Yi dazed for a moment before exploding in anger, pointing a finger at Xie Bufei’s nose. “This is what they call… double, double standards!”
Xie Bufei nodded with a faint, calm smile. “I am being double-standard. What about it?”
Bai Yi let out a cry of frustration, scrambled down from the bed, and huffed, “Xie Bufei, I’m going to fight you!” Like a guided missile, she rushed into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.
Watching her angry departure, Yu Qiao was bewildered. “Senior Bai seems really angry.”
Xie Bufei shrugged with the air of someone experienced in the matter. “Ignore her. She’ll forget about it soon.”
Sure enough, when Bai Yi emerged from the bathroom ten minutes later, she had already calmed down. Her temper came and went quickly; in Xie Bufei’s words, she was a bit “off-track.”
Bai Yi was actually quite cute, with delicate features, a palm-sized face with a hint of baby fat, and bright almond eyes—a very sweet appearance.
“Where are you guys going?” she asked, walking up behind Xie Bufei.
Applying lipstick, Xie Bufei answered without turning around, “We’re going to find Cheng Yeli.”
The madder-colored paste delicately outlined the peaks of her lips. She pressed them together with a soft pop and turned to look at Yu Qiao. Noticing that Yu Qiao was staring at her, she asked with a light laugh, “Does it look good?”
Yu Qiao didn’t look away. “It’s very beautiful.”
Xie Bufei smiled with satisfaction. Behind her, Bai Yi made a noise, unwilling to be left out. “I want to go too!”
“Let’s leave after I finish my bread,” Xie Bufei said to Yu Qiao, ignoring her.
Yu Qiao nodded.
Bai Yi: “Hey! You two, don’t ignore me!!”
Xie Bufei finally gave Bai Yi a glance through the mirror. “What are you going for? Aren’t you going out for drinks today?”
“It’s boring being in the dorm alone,” Bai Yi said righteously. “Just take me along, okay?”
Xie Bufei frowned and didn’t answer. Bai Yi then turned to Yu Qiao, pressing her hands together in a pleading gesture. “Just let me go with you guys, Junior.”
Yu Qiao was the type who couldn’t stand being begged, so she nodded.
Bai Yi cheered happily, “Yay!”
Yu Qiao turned her head, only to meet the resentful gaze of the girl beside her.
“You actually agreed?” Xie Bufei pouted slightly, looking a bit gloomy. She whispered, “I just wanted to spend time with you alone.”
