Senior, Stop Pretending to be an Alpha - Chapter 22.1
Xie Bufei leaned against the wall, fine beads of sweat seeping from her forehead. Her body temperature climbed bit by bit, and a crimson flush gradually spread across her fair cheeks.
Even the usually faint scent of lily of the valley became lingering and inviting, carrying a touch of unconscious seduction.
The high compatibility between their pheromones made it nearly impossible for her to maintain her sanity; she was almost lured into her heat.
Xie Bufei lowered her head, her trembling fingertips reaching into her pocket. She gripped it several times before finally grasping the suppressant she carried with her.
She took a deep breath, forced the cap open, and used the suppressant, finally regaining a sliver of reason.
She had not yet explained her secret to Yu Qiao, and Yu Qiao was not prepared to accept everything. At the very least, more chaotic things should not happen during such a chaotic moment.
Xie Bufei stepped back a few paces, lifted her leg, and kicked the door hard.
Clang!
Yu Qiao opened her eyes. In the center of her hazy vision, the door swayed in the darkness, emitting continuous, loud creaking noises.
Clang, clang!
Another kick, fast and precise, landed on the old iron door.
The rusty red lock, eroded by years of wind and frost, had long been precarious. It finally reached the end of its life under the repeated impacts and fell to the ground, overwhelmed.
Large patches of light poured in. Simultaneously, there was that familiar, faint floral fragrance.
It was like a life-saving rope, pulling her back to the surface from the lightless deep sea.
The heat inside her body crashed around wildly, burning her until she was powerless.
Tiny dust motes drifted in the sunlight. Xie Bufei squinted, vaguely seeing a huddled silhouette in the darkness. “Qiaoqiao?”
She took a step forward and asked in a hoarse voice, “How are you? Are you okay?”
A woody scent filled the lightless room—clear, faint, and cold, like a forest covered in fine snow. It was Yu Qiao’s unique pheromone scent.
The newly born Alpha suddenly raised her head, staring at Xie Bufei without a word. Her expression was stern, and her narrow eyes were dark and deep.
In the darkness, Xie Bufei saw those eyes and shuddered all over, feeling as though she were being watched by a wild beast.
“Qiaoqiao?”
She walked forward carefully and touched Yu Qiao’s body, finding her burning hot. Her clothes were soaked through with sweat, as if she had been pulled straight out of the water.
Suddenly, the cold woody scent rushed toward her as Yu Qiao leaned closer.
With a soft clack, the glasses fell to the floor.
The world spun as Xie Bufei was pinned to the ground. The distance between them vanished instantly, and the Alpha pheromones surged toward her, making her lips tremble and her mind go blank.
Yu Qiao buried her face in Xie Bufei’s neck, her nose twitching as she sniffed the white, slender side of her throat, instinctively chasing the source of the lily of the valley scent.
“So fragrant.”
Her tongue unconsciously brushed against her newly grown, sharp canine teeth. Yu Qiao murmured like a newborn cub, clumsily fumbling with the prey before her.
A large patch of daylight slanted into the room, dust dancing chaotically in the air.
Yu Qiao saw the girl beneath her looking up. Thick black hair was scattered across the floor like seaweed, the upturned corners of her eyes were stained with a faint flush, and her face was as vivid as peach blossoms on a March branch.
Her skin was dazzlingly white under the pale gold light, her eyes were misty with water, and her red lips parted slightly. She was breathtakingly beautiful.
“Qiaoqiao.”
Yu Qiao looked down at her and suddenly lowered her head.
Xie Bufei’s eyes snapped wide as she felt the other’s warm lips land on the side of her neck.
It was a soft, light kiss, like a damp petal falling on her, devoid of any desire.
Yet because of this, Xie Bufei nearly lost all reason, almost wanting to let herself sink into instinct.
The autumn sunlight was still scorching, like a sudden sun-shower, hot enough to melt a person.
She bit the tip of her tongue hard to clear her vision and murmured, “Qiaoqiao, we can’t do this here.”
Yu Qiao’s nose rubbed gently against the hollow of her neck. Her sharp canine teeth grazed the fair skin intentionally or otherwise, biting shallowly. Her gaze was dark and stubborn. “Want it.”
Sniffing the sweet floral scent, a dark, strange possessiveness suddenly sprang up in her heart. She wanted to be closer, even closer, until the Omega before her was completely her own.
The pressure of the Alpha pheromones was released silently. Xie Bufei’s instincts screamed, almost forcing her to submit to the Alpha before her immediately.
If I get marked now…
Her breath hitched, and she shook her head forcefully.
“No.”
She couldn’t let Yu Qiao mark her while she wasn’t conscious. Otherwise, how would that be different from taking advantage of someone?
Xie Bufei knew that if Yu Qiao woke up and found she had marked her, she would feel extremely guilty and spend the rest of her life taking responsibility.
That wouldn’t be fair to Yu Qiao.
They could have many opportunities to be together. Xie Bufei didn’t want to lock the other person down in such a despicable way, using pointless sympathy and pity.
She wanted a completely pure relationship.
Xie Bufei turned her head slightly to avoid her, eyes wet with tears. She said in a low voice, “You can’t do this. When you wake up, you will definitely regret it.”
Meeting those tearful eyes, the unfocused light in Yu Qiao’s gaze suddenly flickered, and her movements stopped.
A hint of confusion appeared on Yu Qiao’s face. She subconsciously reached out, her fingertips gently brushing away the cold liquid sliding from the corner of the girl’s eye.
“Don’t cry.”
Her heart softened inexplicably. She retracted her canines, not wanting to see the girl before her sad.
Xie Bufei’s eyes shimmered as she reached out both hands toward Yu Qiao. Her arms were long and slender as she gently hooked them around the other’s neck, leaning in.
The two embraced tightly without any gap between them.
Xie Bufei gently stroked her hair and said softly, “Qiaoqiao, let me take you out first, okay?”
Yu Qiao closed her eyes deeply in the embrace filled with the scent of lily of the valley, her pale face flushed from the heat. “Okay.”
She felt as if she had fallen into a field of white lilies, lying on soft petals while the sun shone warmly on her, making her feel safe and warm.
Her body and mind, long tortured by the pain of the differentiation period, suddenly relaxed. Fatigue surged up as an afterthought.
Yu Qiao closed her eyes and gradually fell into a sweet, dark sleep.
She felt as if she had a long, confused dream.
In the dream, there was a faint floral scent, hot breaths and embraces, and the gentle touch of fingers on her face.
Fragmented pieces intertwined intermittently like a montage, causing her to sink into it repeatedly.
In the chaotic dream shadows, the sound of many footsteps hurried past her ears. Conversations were kept very low, and Yu Qiao could vaguely hear the word “differentiation.”
A door was closed gently. Someone seemed to let out a faint sigh, like the sound of wind ending without a trace.
In her daze, Yu Qiao slowly opened her eyes.
A snow-white ceiling entered her view. Looking ahead, there was a television that wasn’t turned on. The curtains were half-drawn, the light in the room was hazy, and the stinging sunlight was blocked outside.
Yu Qiao found herself lying on a soft bed.
Her movements caught the attention of the person sitting nearby.
“Qiaoqiao, you’re awake?” Yao Rudong’s voice rang out, filled with excitement.
Yu Qiao turned her face and saw Yao Rudong sitting on the chair beside her, reaching out to hold her arm, her eyes red.
“What’s wrong with you?” As soon as she spoke, she was startled by her own dry, raspy voice.
Yao Rudong wiped her eyes and immediately got up to pour water for her. “It’s nothing. How do you feel now? Does your head still hurt?”
Yu Qiao shook her head, pressing her arms against the blanket to prop herself up from the bed.
She realized she was in a private hospital room.
The items within her sight were clean and tidy, and the bedding was new and comfortable, a world away from the hospital rooms she had stayed in before.
She blinked her eyes in a daze. Without her glasses, her vision was blurred, and she looked toward Yao Rudong’s direction blankly.
“How did I end up here?”
Yao Rudong handed her a glass of water and said, “Did you forget? You differentiated earlier.”
Differentiation…
Fragmented memory pieces flooded into her mind, but they didn’t form a complete story.
She rubbed her dry eyes and answered uncertainly, “I don’t think I remember.”
“It’s probably because of the differentiation period,” Yao Rudong said. “Get some good rest these next few days.”
Yu Qiao gave a hum of agreement, looked down to take a sip of the warm water, and asked casually, “What did I differentiate into?”
Yao Rudong looked at her and said, “An Alpha.”
Yu Qiao paused, looking up in quite a bit of surprise.
An Alpha?!
“Why are you so surprised?” Seeing her expression, Yao Rudong couldn’t help but laugh. “Weren’t you even aware of it yourself?”
Yu Qiao shook her head.
Since she was a child, everyone around her thought she would differentiate into a Beta. She had subconsciously come to believe it herself.
She just didn’t expect she would become an Alpha.
Most of her memories regarding the differentiation period were like a tangled ball of yarn; she had forgotten most of it. The only thing she remembered was that faint floral scent.
“You went missing that day, and we went out to look for you.” As Yao Rudong spoke, her mood dropped, and she wiped her reddened eyes again. “I’m sorry, Qiaoqiao. If only we had noticed earlier.”
“It’s okay.” Yu Qiao leaned against the headboard, looking at her gently. “It was my own issue. Don’t feel guilty about it.”
A bitter smile appeared on Yao Rudong’s face as she whispered, “Luckily, we ran into Senior Xie Bufei. She immediately split up with us to search and finally brought you back.”
She added, “Senior searched two whole floors for you. When she carried you back, she was soaked in sweat.”
“It was the first time I saw her looking so disheveled.”
