Senior, Stop Pretending to be an Alpha - Chapter 13
The hair beneath her palm was soft and fluffy, pleasant to the touch. The strands were fuzzy, dyed a pale golden-brown by the sun and radiating a slight warmth.
Yu Qiao gave a few gentle pats before letting go.
Xie Bufei looked up, her fine, long lashes trembling like the wings of a fluttering butterfly. The face that was always adorned with a smile was now frozen in a look of caught-off-guard blankness. Gone was her usual air of effortless composure; instead, she looked utterly dazed.
A few seconds later, the heat on her cheeks began to spread outward, tinting the curves of her small, rounded ears a deep red.
Yu Qiao paused and asked, “Are you okay?”
Xie Bufei shook her head, then nodded, her clear fox-like eyes gazing at her with a bright shimmer.
“Do it again.”
Yu Qiao was taken aback. “What?”
“Pat my head,” Xie Bufei whispered, leaning in closer.
She was slightly shorter than Yu Qiao. When she looked up, she unconsciously pouted her soft lips slightly, looking like a cat sitting on its hind legs to please its owner—both obedient and pampered.
If she had a tail, it would likely be wrapped around Yu Qiao’s wrist by now.
Looking at her, a strange emotion suddenly surged in Yu Qiao’s heart. She didn’t pull away. Instead, she asked back calmly, “Why?”
Xie Bufei was nearly pressed against her. Her fair cheeks and ears were flushed with a pale pink, and her dark hair brushed against her ears.
At such close proximity, the scent of lily of the valley became dense and intoxicating, like a soft cat’s tail brushing past the tip of her nose.
Yu Qiao’s fingertips twitched slightly. The popsicle in her hand had already begun to melt, pressing against the gaps of her fingers, cold and sticky.
“I just want you to pat my head,” Xie Bufei said in a small voice, her lips parting slightly. “Qiaoqiao, please?”
No one could refuse her at a moment like this, and Yu Qiao was no exception.
She lowered her eyes, placed her palm back on Xie Bufei’s head, and rubbed it slowly.
As her fingertips threaded through the fine, soft hair, the other girl squinted her eyes in contentment. Before Yu Qiao could withdraw her hand, she leaned in and lightly nuzzled her palm.
Xie Bufei’s eyes curved into a beautiful smile. “Thank you, Qiaoqiao.”
Yu Qiao said nothing. She looked at Xie Bufei’s reddened earlobes and silently lowered her gaze.
With a snap, the popsicle was broken into two pieces.
She handed one half to Xie Bufei and asked, “Want some?”
Xie Bufei blinked, took it, and took a sip. Pink icy water flowed out.
It was strawberry-flavored, with the standard sweetness of industrial saccharin.
They walked over to a bench under the shade of a tree and sat down side-by-side. Xie Bufei crunched on the strawberry slush, her words slightly muffled. “This is the first time I’ve ever shared this with someone. I used to eat both halves myself.”
Yu Qiao asked, “Do you think it tastes good?”
Xie Bufei nodded, her eyes curving with laughter. “It’s delicious.”
“I used to eat these often when I was a kid.” Yu Qiao looked down and took a sip of the icy liquid. Only a small section of a pink ice pillar remained in the plastic tube. “Eating cold things makes me feel better.”
Xie Bufei caught the words keenly. “So, was Qiaoqiao in a bad mood earlier?”
Yu Qiao paused and said calmly, “Yes. The temperature is too hot.”
“Oh…” Xie Bufei thought for a moment, took a small fan out of her bag, and turned it on near Yu Qiao’s cheek. A cool breeze brushed against her face.
She said in a very proud tone, “Do you feel better now?”
Yu Qiao turned her head to look at her for a moment, a faint smile appearing on her face. “Yes.”
Xie Bufei stared at her smile and said with pleasant surprise, “You should smile more. You look really good when you smile.”
Yu Qiao pursed her lips helplessly and nodded.
Seeing this, Xie Bufei reached out and carefully cupped Yu Qiao’s cheeks, rubbing and squeezing them affectionately for a few moments. “Qiaoqiao, you’re so well-behaved. So cute.”
Yu Qiao’s face was squeezed into a little “chicken beak” shape again. “…”
Although she didn’t know what exactly was cute about her, she still thanked her politely: “Thank you. You too.”
“The way you’re so serious is especially cute.”
Xie Bufei laughed and let go of her. “If only my sister were as cute as you…” She paused, then shook her head vigorously, muttering to herself, “Xie Ke can’t even compare to you.”
Yu Qiao: “Do you hate her that much?”
Xie Bufei’s expression turned a bit cold. “Yes. She’s annoying.”
Although Yu Qiao had no intention of interfering in others’ family matters, after a moment of reflection, she still offered a reminder: “She doesn’t seem to like you.”
Xie Bufei turned back, her dark eyes wide. “You can tell?”
“Yes. The way she looks at you…” Yu Qiao responded, carefully choosing her words. “It’s sinister and hypocritical.”
Xie Bufei was stunned for a moment. She lowered her eyes and said, “You’re the first person to ever say that.”
“Xie Ke puts on a very good front in front of outsiders. Almost everyone thinks I’m the one bullying her.”
Xie Bufei paused, looking down and idly kicking away a small pebble at her feet. “Bullying a weak, sickly girl who isn’t even blood-related.”
Yu Qiao was somewhat surprised. “Not blood-related?”
“It’s nothing much. We have different fathers and different mothers. Just a melodramatic family story.” Xie Bufei’s tone was indifferent, as if she were narrating a trivial matter, yet her beautiful profile looked inexplicably lonely. “My mom died a few years ago. My dad married a young and beautiful Omega, and Xie Ke is that Omega’s daughter.”
Yu Qiao fell silent. Looking at her cold expression, she suddenly took the initiative to ask, “Do you want a head pat?”
Xie Bufei was stunned, her eyes instantly widening as she looked at her. “Can I?”
At the mention of a head pat, she seemed to become a different person—soft and obedient.
Yu Qiao replied, “You can.”
Xie Bufei smiled and lowered her head obediently. She felt the warmth radiating from Yu Qiao’s hand as it rubbed the top of her head, a tenderness that seemed to melt her entire heart.
Suddenly, she felt a bit insatiable. She raised her head slightly, her teeth white against her red lips. The corners of her eyes tilted upward, her gaze flowing with a hint of seductive allure.
“Then, can I come find Qiaoqiao whenever I’m in a bad mood in the future?”
Yu Qiao’s hand was still resting on Xie Bufei’s head. She looked down at her, her tone remaining calm. “You can.”
Xie Bufei gazed at her from very close range. Her hoodie collar was slightly wide, revealing her slender white neck and collarbones.
Her heart felt an itch, and she unconsciously pouted her lips like a spoiled little cub. “Then, I want to be a bit more demanding.”
Yu Qiao lowered her eyes. Beneath the shadow of her cap’s brim, a pair of black eyes watched her quietly.
Her voice sounded a bit deep. “How demanding?”
“Give me a hug,” Xie Bufei said softly. “Please?”
