Seducing the Heart - Chapter 15
“Mother, I have said it before. I will not marry.”
“Xuan’er, do not be absurd! I usually indulge you, but this matter is absolutely not up to you!” Jiang Qiuyun had made up her mind. “Your father is still guarding the frontier; currently, I am the one in charge of this manor. If I say you are to marry the Jiang family’s daughter, then marry her you must!”
“Mother! But I!”
“Xuan’er! Just forget that girl who grew up in the flower house, I beg of you!” Jiang Qiuyun did not hesitate to use a guilt trip, her eyes filling with tears as she wept sorrowfully. “I have only one son. The girl you marry must be someone quiet and gentle like the Jiang family’s daughter. I have looked her over for you; she is a rare, fine woman!”
“Mother, please stop crying. I will marry her, I will marry her!”
“That is more like it. I have already asked the best matchmaker in the capital to propose the match, and the Jiang Manor has agreed. Three days from now, you will be wed!” Jiang Qiuyun was afraid Yuan Yixuan would go back on his word, so she had arranged everything to ensure a quick wedding and avoid any complications.
Yuan Yixuan’s silhouette looked utterly helpless, but the moment he stepped out the door, a subtle smile curled at the corner of his lips.
With the three letters and six rites, she was wed as the legal wife.
It was not until Jiao Yue and Yuan Yixuan truly bowed to Heaven and Earth, and Jiao Yue was led into the bridal chamber by the wedding maid, that Yuan Yixuan dared to believe he had actually married Jiao Yue.
The two had achieved their heart’s desire and finally tied the knot.
All of this was thanks to the strategy Yun Jin suggested that night.
First, Yun Jin vacated a private residence and had the “Jiang Manor” plaque hung up. Then, word was spread that the daughter of a wealthy merchant family from Jiangnan had settled in the capital; she was graceful, polite, and seeking a fine husband.
To this end, Yun Jin bribed more than half of the matchmakers in the capital and had his guards find ways to collect portraits of young masters from various families.
The most crucial element was the fortune-teller.
It was well known that Madam Jiang was a believer in gods and spirits and trusted in such mystical matters. Yun Jin skillfully used this point to cater to her interests and turn her own schemes against her.
The wedding was grand, and everyone who needed to know was informed. Furthermore, Jiao Yue was already carrying Yuan Yixuan’s flesh and blood. Even if the truth came to light in the future, the Old Madam Jiang would be left with no choice but to accept it.
“Your Highness, I owe it all to your help that I could marry Jiao Yue as my legal wife. I make a vow here today that if you ever have a need in the future,” Yuan Yixuan performed a formal salute to Yun Jin, filled his glass, and drank three cups in quick succession, “I will repay you even at the cost of my life, without any regret!”
Yuan Yixuan held up a cup of wine to toast Yun Jin, his eyes filled with a distinct firmness and sincerity. This was his promise, his submission.
Yuan Yixuan knew that Yun Jin had no ulterior motives in helping him and Jiao Yue; he simply wanted to see a loving couple united. However, he could not act a fool and ignore such immense kindness.
Yuan Yixuan’s heart was too sincere. Yun Jin knew that if he did not accept the wine today, the man would likely refuse to stand up.
“How could I not drink a wedding cup from the young General Yuan?” Yun Jin smiled, took the cup from Yuan Yixuan’s hand, and downed it decisively.
“Your Highness should drink less wine.” Sitting together in the carriage returning to the manor, Qin Zhanluo spoke in a faint voice. “Do you feel unwell now?”
The driver drove steadily, ensuring those inside felt no jolting.
Yun Jin sat lazily on the soft cushions, leaning slightly against one side of the interior wall. “I am alright, just a bit of a headache.”
“Master, it is time to alight.” Nangong Ning habitually lifted the carriage curtain, but after just one glance inside, she quickly let the curtain fall back down.
Inside the carriage, Yun Jin’s head was resting on the Princess Consort’s lap, and the Princess Consort was gently massaging the pressure points on her head.
Yun Jin, who had been drowsy, opened her eyes as if sensing something.
A soft voice whispered in her ear: “Your Highness, we have arrived.”
