Seduced Me into a Deep Fall - Chapter 59
“This is the dream I had last night. It’s a bit strange, sis. I keep feeling like the events in the dream actually happened.”
After finishing her story, Ling Xi hugged Song Yi, and the two rolled around before Song Yi steadied herself.
“Maybe it really is our story from some parallel world. If that’s the case, it makes a lot of sense.” Song Yi ran her fingers through Ling Xi’s hair.
“In that case, it would explain why, in my past life, I had some suspicions but never managed to find you.” Song Yi pondered the life Ling Xi had just described, the one that took place after Ling Xi returned to the moment of her suicide.
From the looks of it, in Ling Xi’s “past life,” she must have been held up by something, preventing her from saving Ling Xi in time.
“Wow, you’re already wearing the new clothes Mommy bought you yesterday?”
Lingyue sidled up to Ling Xi, watching her spin in front of the mirror, and immediately grew intrigued.
Since when did her sister care about her outfits?
Ling Xi rolled her eyes. “I never had the chance before. I don’t even want to talk about yours and Mom’s taste, always buying me hoodies and pants. Now that Mommy finally had time to get me clothes, of course I had to try them on.”
That, kind of made sense. Lingyue was momentarily stunned before noticing the pile of dresses strewn across Ling Xi’s bed.
“…Sis, don’t lie to me. It’s been almost a month since your college entrance exams, and you never dressed up this much when meeting friends before.”
“Tsk. If you’re gonna lie, at least hide the evidence.” Lingyue pointed at the pile of jewelry Ling Xi had somehow acquired.
Ling Xi’s ears turned red. “Ugh, don’t meddle in adult matters. And stop barging into my room.” She pushed Lingyue out as she spoke.
“……” Lingyue was speechless.
They shared a room. If she didn’t go into her own room, where else was she supposed to go?
Her little sister had grown up.
Now Lingyue was burning with curiosity about who Ling Xi was meeting today.
After nearly two hours of fussing, Ling Xi finally picked out a decent outfit from her closet.
Lingyue sat on the couch, updating their moms in the family group chat for some juicy gossip.
[She’s out! She’s wearing Mommy’s pearl necklace and full makeup!]
[And the outfit—I’ve never seen it before. Who bought it for her?]
[She even braided her hair. Tsk, that’s a complicated hairstyle.]
Now all three of them were dying to know who Ling Xi was meeting.
Meanwhile, Ling Xi arrived at the small community she used to frequent last summer.
It was near a park with plenty of food shops around.
She checked her watch—it was almost ten.
She wasn’t late.
Her heart pounded even faster.
Five minutes passed, and Ling Xi still hadn’t seen the person she was waiting for. She pulled out her phone to confirm the time.
She and that girl had agreed to meet on July 3rd, Wait a second.
Today was July 4th!
Ling Xi froze.
Had she been so caught up in summer fun that she lost track of time? Or had she slept straight through the 3rd?
It wasn’t until she checked the calendar and saw “Wednesday” that she realized her mistake.
Ling Xi wanted to cry.
Now they were probably going to miss each other.
Would she ever get to see the girl she’d been thinking about for a whole year again?
Their last meeting had ended with a kiss. Maybe the other girl felt the same way?
Panic set in and Ling Xi fidgeted uncontrollably, her mind racing a mile a minute.
She was on the verge of tears.
Then, a car suddenly pulled up in front of her.
Ling Xi instinctively took a few steps back as a woman stepped out of the car.
A slender, mature woman. She looked to be in her early twenties, yet lacked the youthful clarity typical of that age.
Her aura was commanding, and the glasses she wore added to her composed demeanor.
Upon seeing Ling Xi, the woman immediately removed her glasses.
Ling Xi watched as she approached, feeling increasingly bewildered.
“Hello, is there something I can help you with?” She didn’t recall knowing any older sister with such an air.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ling Xi glanced at the woman’s car. She didn’t recognize the model, but she understood the license plate.
Sequential numbers either 6s or 8s. Just the plate alone must have cost a fortune.
“Are you, Xiao Xi?” Song Yi still wasn’t entirely sure.
Today, Ling Xi had dressed up deliberately. And at seventeen or eighteen, a girl’s appearance could change day by day. A year had passed, and Ling Xi had blossomed even more, looking even lovelier than before.
Last year, Ling Xi had been the one taking the initiative the whole time.
Now, she had transformed completely, her appearance altered so much that Ling Xi almost didn’t recognize her.
She wasn’t sure how to interact with Ling Xi now.
Nor did she know whether Ling Xi had understood the meaning behind that last kiss they shared.
Whether Ling Xi had ever felt the same way.
“Wuwu…” Ling Xi sniffled, then suddenly threw her arms around Song Yi.
“Did I come a day too late? I thought I wouldn’t get to see you again.”
Song Yi froze for a second before her hand naturally settled on Ling Xi’s head.
“It’s alright. You’re here now—that’s enough.” At the very least, they had finally reunited.
Ling Xi clung to her, refusing to let go.
Even in the summer heat, both of them were covered in a thin layer of sweat.
“Lianlian jiejie… no, Song Yi, no—Song jiejie. I didn’t mean to come late.”
“Let’s find somewhere to sit first. It’s too hot out here.” Song Yi pressed her cheek briefly against Ling Xi’s before gently prying her off.
A year apart, and Ling Xi had grown a little taller.
Though she still wasn’t as tall as Song Yi, by next year, she might surpass her.
Looking at the girl before her—tear-streaked, her face and the tip of her nose flushed from crying—Song Yi felt waves of joy rise in her heart.
No matter what excuse Ling Xi gave, Song Yi was ready to forgive her.
“Okay.” Ling Xi obediently wiped her tears with her sleeve.
Midway, Song Yi offered her a handkerchief, but Ling Xi, too embarrassed, didn’t dare take it.
They were still much more awkward than they had been last year.
Song Yi sighed, then bent slightly, cupping Ling Xi’s face.
She used the handkerchief to dry her tears.
“I waited here for you all day yesterday.” That was the longest stretch of time she could spare.
Ling Xi whimpered, tears threatening to spill again. “I’m sorry!”
She was wracked with guilt, but the words wouldn’t come.
The world around her turned black. She fell into an abyss.
A long time passed.
She heard the beeping of medical equipment.
The panicked voices of strangers.
Felt the hard, cold surface of a hospital bed.
Smelled the sharp scent of disinfectant in the air.
Then came an indescribable pain, spreading from the root of her tongue, her entire body as if submerged in boiling water, agony unbearable.
“Cough, cough… ah—” Ling Xi finally opened her eyes.
Tears slid down from the corners of her eyes.
Where?
Was she?
Ling Xi stared at the strangers gathered around her bed, her tears unstoppable.
The remnants of another ending in her mind grew fainter by the second.
She tried to grasp it, but in the end, only one name remained.
Song Yi.
“I really didn’t mean to. When I realized I’d mixed up the dates today, I was so upset I cried.”
As she spoke, tears began to fall, vividly demonstrating to Song Yi just how distressed she’d been.
“I mistook Wednesday the third for the third of the month, thinking today was our scheduled day. I even woke up early, but didn’t realize my mistake until I got here and something felt off.” Ling Xi explained between sobs.
Song Yi couldn’t keep pretending now.
How could she possibly blame Ling Xi after hearing this?
Ling Xi had prepared earnestly and clearly looked forward to it.
It was just a simple mistake about the date.
Song Yi immediately began comforting Ling Xi, smoothing her hair and wiping her tears.
“Song jiejie, sister, please don’t be angry. Wuwu.”
With her vision blurred by tears, Ling Xi missed the concerned expression on Song Yi’s face.
“I’m not angry. Please stop crying,” Song Yi quickly reassured her.
“It feels like you’re just humoring me…”
“Are you really not angry?” Ling Xi looked up at Song Yi with teary, puppy-dog eyes.
“I just wanted compensation, I wasn’t actually angry. I’m sorry for tricking you earlier.” Song Yi’s heart ached seeing her like this and she hurried to explain.
