Seduced Me into a Deep Fall - Chapter 32.1
Ling Xi nearly jumped out of bed.
She unlocked her phone three times before her trembling fingers finally managed to swipe the screen open.
Her entire body was shaking uncontrollably, tears pooling in her eyes.
Finally, Ling Xi saw the message from her sister.
Just four short words: [“Can you receive this?”]
Ling Xi’s hands trembled as she tried to type a reply.
But her fingers were stopped by a gentle pressure.
Ling Xi turned her head sharply and saw Song Yi, who had been woken up by her movements.
Song Yi was surprised. In just a few hours, Ling Xi had somehow ended up crying like this.
“What’s wrong?”
Ling Xi’s neck flushed red with suppressed emotion, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
How could she have fallen for someone else?
Though Song Yi was truly wonderful, beautiful, sweeta and gentle.
But Ling Xi didn’t think she was ready for love.
After enduring Mu Xie’s obsessive pursuit, Ling Xi had developed an instinctive fear of romance.
Even though realizing her nervousness and anticipation around Song Yi was actually affection had initially filled her with joy.
Once the excitement faded, Ling Xi’s heart still clenched, an old scar throbbing painfully.
She had never experienced a proper relationship.
And before that, she had suffered inhuman treatment.
Song Yi definitely wasn’t like Mu Xie.
But Ling Xi couldn’t help but worry.
What if she became like Mu Xie?
What if Song Yi eventually turned out that way too?
And worse, Ling Xi didn’t even know if Song Yi liked her back.
She barely knew Song Yi at all.
They had only met half a month ago. Despite everything that had happened between them, Ling Xi didn’t even know how many relatives Song Yi had.
Ling Xi savored this bittersweet flutter in her chest, tossing and turning in bed.
In the end, all her worries and fears condensed into a single question.
Ling Xi shook her head, quickly typed [“Sister”] in reply, and then threw herself into Song Yi’s arms.
“Nightmare?” Song Yi was still half-asleep.
She held Ling Xi, her voice muffled and drowsy.
“No. Sister Song, I’m just so happy.” If Ling Yue was reaching out, she must be safe. Maybe they’d even see each other soon.
“Happy enough to cry like this?” Song Yi sighed, patting Ling Xi’s back. “You’re breaking my heart.”
Ling Xi clung tightly to Song Yi’s neck.
“It’s just my sister finally contacted me. She’s okay, she’s really okay.”
A wish left unfulfilled in her past life the family she had longed to see again, even across death. Finally, there was news.
“That’s wonderful.” Song Yi also relaxed.
Her people had worked quickly. Ling Yue had been rescued.
Though the small company she had joined was alerted and disbanded prematurely, vanishing without a trace.
“Sister Song, can I ask, what happened with Mu Xie? How did you stop her from coming after me?” Mentioning Mu Xie, Ling Xi suddenly remembered.
Life had been so peaceful lately, and with her post-rebirth memory still fragmented, she had nearly forgotten about Mu Xie entirely.
“Gave her some people from the Song family and kept her busy.”
Then, she had erased Ling Xi’s traces in the capital including her online job applications and other records.
She didn’t go into detail with Ling Xi, but the matter of the drug still needed to be addressed.
“After this, Yun Fengzhi’s side will keep a close eye on her. They finally caught a lead on the Gamma serum.”
Ling Xi only knew the name of this drug.
She probably guessed that Mu Xie was related to it. “Sister Song, what is this Gamma serum?”
“You don’t know?” Song Yi asked, then quickly realized.
According to Ling Xi’s account, she had indeed only heard of the serum in passing.
“It’s something very harmful,” Song Yi shook her head.
“I’m not as informed as Yun Fengzhi and the others. When it comes to hunting down the culprits, I only provided them with connections and channels.”
“But I do know that a group of Tiancan, dissatisfied with the existing pheromone hierarchy and system, coveted others’ pheromones. They gathered together and conducted many inhumane experiments, eventually developing serums that could enhance pheromone levels.”
“Among them, only the Gamma serum was ever publicly exposed. The reason we’re wary of it isn’t because it’s the most toxic, but because it’s the only lead we have.”
Neither she, the Yun sisters, nor any of the other victims they could contact were Tiancan themselves.
“Stop crying, your eyes are all swollen.” Song Yi grabbed a tissue from the bedside table and carefully wiped Ling Xi’s tears.
Ling Xi sniffled while watching Song Yi’s expression.
It almost seemed as if Song Yi genuinely cared for her.
This fleeting illusion made Ling Xi want to cry even more.
She choked back her sobs, struggling to hold back her tears until her face turned red.
“I want to see her. Sister Song, it’s been so long since I last saw her.”
She had crossed time and space, transcended life and death, and finally returned to this lifetime.
She absolutely had to fulfill the unresolved longing from her past life.
“You’ll see her. Did she say anything else?” After drying Ling Xi’s face, Song Yi finally pulled her into an embrace.
“Let me check.” Ling Xi reached for the phone she had tossed aside earlier.
A single project failing wasn’t the real issue. The real problem was the erosion of trust among the shareholders.
Song Yi pondered how to deal with Fu Youyou.
After all, Fu Youyou was technically her mother’s husband.
Even if Song Yi had long abandoned any notions of familial ties with him.
Moreover, Fu Youyou’s maternal family had siphoned considerable benefits from the Song family in recent years, growing stronger. Direct confrontation would be troublesome.
Ultimately, Song Yi hadn’t yet reached a position where she could dominate Yihui Group single-handedly.
Perhaps deep down, she was still that little girl who dared not resist even when beaten, scolded, or forced to kneel in punishment.
Past midnight, Song Yi finally finished her work.
She debated whether to sneak into Ling Xi’s bed tonight.
Ling Xi endured it at first, then melted into her touch.
Using softness to dissolve Song Yi’s domineering force.
After five minutes of kissing, Ling Xi finally calmed down, her tears drying, and Song Yi loosened her grip.
Only to be flipped over in an instant.
Song Yi lay back, wrapping an arm around Ling Xi’s waist, yielding completely to her whims.
Ling Xi clung to her, kissing her fervently before suddenly realizing, it was the middle of the night. They should be sleeping.
Blushing, Ling Xi retreated to her side, ignoring Song Yi’s heavy breaths and her own lingering heat, and dutifully pulled the blanket back over herself.
“…” Song Yi rolled onto her side. “Why stop?”
She had been waiting for more.
Ling Xi shook her head. “Sleep. We both have busy days tomorrow, we need proper rest.”
“Fine.” Song Yi’s disappointment was palpable.
Ling Xi’s ears burned hotter.
But since she was the one who insisted on resting, she could hardly take it back now. Turning over, all she saw was Song Yi’s back facing her.
Self-inflicted suffering. Ling Xi inched closer to Song Yi.
“Goodnight, Sister Song,” she whispered softly.
“I really don’t know what to do with you,” Song Yi sighed before turning back to embrace her.
“I’ll make it up to you next time I’m free,” Ling Xi said with a smile, finally drifting off to sleep in peace.
“Good luck with work.” After dropping Ling Xi off at the office building, Song Yi patted her head.
“I will,” Ling Xi replied, as nervous and excited as a child on their first day of school.
Watching Song Yi’s car drive away, Ling Xi let out a long breath.
She went upstairs, barely making it into the office on time.
“You’re here. Our company is short-staffed, so for today, just follow Xiao Lin and get familiar with the work. Come see me at 1002 at 2 p.m.,” Shi Xinyu handed Ling Xii over to a senior colleague.
Following her, Ling Xi got a rough idea of which departments occupied which offices and what design theme her own team was working on.
As a newcomer, she wasn’t yet responsible for major designs. Her tasks involved handling handovers, communicating with clients, refining details, and consolidating designers’ drafts.
After a busy morning, Ling Xi finally shook off her nerves. In the afternoon, as instructed, she went to Shi Xinyu’s office.
“Have a seat. Though your job application mentioned a design-related position, I personally think your image and temperament are excellent perfect for modeling. Have you ever considered working in this field? I can provide training,” Shi Xinyu got straight to the point, leaving Ling Xi stunned.
“Modeling?”
“Yes. Our company produces high-end apparel and needs promotion at various events. Frankly, a model who can wear our clothes beautifully, distinctively, and attractively is more valuable than a group of designers struggling to grasp user needs.”
“A good synergy between models and designers can create demand and set trends. I think your image aligns closely with the direction our company has been aiming for,” Shi Xinyu made her stance clear.
“For you personally, modeling might also offer a clearer career path than design. Plus, by wearing the clothes yourself, you’ll gain a better sense of what needs improvement. And in your free time, you can still pursue design if inspiration strikes.”
“I… I’d like to think about it,” Ling Xii said, her brain overloaded by the flood of information.
“No rush. You’re my employee now, you’re not going anywhere,” Shi Xinyu even had tea and snacks ready for her.
“Take your time here. I’ll go fix your wife’s design drafts.”
“I think she’s dangerous,” Tan Nijun finally vented.
“Too capable, too hard to control. If she ever had ill intentions, Ling Xi’s naive nature wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“Honestly, you sound like a worried mother. Ling Xi already said she’s happy, even if it means being under Song Yi’s thumb. They’re in love, why stress over it?” Jiang Yuyang patted Tan Nijun’s shoulder.
“Alright, come help me wake He Qingmo. Shouldn’t you be heading to work?”
Tan Nijun nodded. “Mu Xie’s case isn’t closed yet.”
“Then wake her up and go. We’ll take good care of the cake you left behind.”
Tan Nijun smacked Jiang Yuyang’s back. Her friend had a bit of a wicked streak.
Ling Xii climbed into Song Yi’s car, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the lunchbox she’d brought.
“Sister Song, you’re so thoughtful. I was fully prepared to go hungry this morning.”
“How could I let you go hungry? Sweetheart, skipping breakfast isn’t a good habit.” Song Yi ruffled her hair.
“Once in a while is fine. I ate a lot last night, so I’m not that hungry right now.”
Ling Xi said this, but her hands betrayed her she immediately opened the lunchbox Song Yi had brought and picked up her chopsticks to dig in.
Seeing her reaction, Song Yi guessed Ling Xi hadn’t really been paying attention to her earlier conversation with Tan Nijing.
As long as she hadn’t heard that confession, it was fine.
And indeed, Ling Xi hadn’t.
But she had clearly heard Song Yi say, “I hope you can keep this a secret for me.”
And that line about not wanting to scare her.
Ling Xi nearly spat out her tea. “Who?”
“Your wife. Song Yi, isn’t she? You two are getting married, right? She came to me to order wedding rings and a dress. She didn’t tell you?”
Shi Xinyu suddenly froze. “Y-you don’t tell her I said anything! I didn’t spill the secret!”
“What did she order?” But Ling Xi had already heard.
She didn’t even have time to question how Shi Xinyu knew about her relationship with Song Yi.
“Uh…” Shi Xinyu averted her gaze.
“Both the rings and the dress?” Ling Xi bit her lip.
Her heart was pounding.
Yet she didn’t dare ask Song Yi what this meant.
What if Song Yi told her it was just part of their contractual marriage that she had to make it convincing to silence those pressuring her to settle down?
“You should ask her,” Shi Xinyu decided, not wanting to get involved.
After wrestling with it for a while, Ling Xi still didn’t confront Song Yi directly.
She decided to test the waters tonight.
When Song Yi picked Ling Xi up from work, she noticed something was off and poked her cheek.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart? You barely said hello when you got in the car.”
Ling Xi turned to her, her expression still downcast.
“Bad day at work? Did someone give you trouble?”
Ling Xi scooted closer to Song Yi anyway.
“Not really. My mentor’s a bit of a goof, but he’s nice. I’m new, so the tasks they give me aren’t too hard or heavy. The other colleagues are friendly too.”
“Then why—”
“Song Yi.” Ling Xi grabbed Song Yi’s hand before she could poke her again.
“Are you hiding something from me?” And probably more than one thing.
Song Yi froze.
Ling Xi could tell from her reaction, she was definitely keeping secrets.
She let go and turned away, sulking.
“L-Ling Xi, I—” Song Yi didn’t know which secret Ling Xi was referring to.
There were too many things she hadn’t told her, and she couldn’t sort through them now nor did she dare confess any.
Ling Xi shook her head. “I need some time alone.”
Song Yi was terrified by her attitude.
This was the first time she’d seen Ling Xi like this.
She’d never witnessed Ling Xi angry or upset before.
If it were anyone else, Song Yi would’ve brushed it off waited for them to cool down before talking.
That was how she always handled things with friends.
But this was Ling Xi.
Ling Xi, who looked genuinely hurt, tears welling in her eyes.
And it was all because of her.
