Seduced Me into a Deep Fall - Chapter 22.1
“Not really… just a bit feverish and dizzy. I’d forgotten all about it until she mentioned it.” Ling Xi’s voice gradually weakened.
“And before this? How’s your general health? Do you often get sick enough to be hospitalized for IVs? Are your rut cycles regular? What age did you present?”
Ji Heng realized her tone was too clinical and quickly softened it with a smile.
“Take your time, no rush. As your family doctor, I need to understand your health thoroughly to treat you properly.”
“But I might not stay at her place for long…” According to Ling Xi’s plan, she’d mooch off Song Yi for a year at most.
“You can always come to me for checkups later.”
Ji Heng scribbled her contact details on a slip of paper, never missing a chance to recruit clients.
Ling Xi was momentarily speechless and could only answer her questions slowly.
“I presented at eighteen. My rut cycles have always been every six months. My health’s decent,I rarely get sick.”
Only then did it occur to her that the anomaly Ji Heng noticed might stem from her rebirth.
Who knew if her body had deteriorated after reincarnating?
Her memory was already affected it made sense if her constitution weakened too.
“Young miss…” Steward Zhao, a beta who couldn’t detect pheromones, had no idea what had happened in the room.
When she opened the door and saw Ling Xi collapsed on the floor, she was startled.
Ling Xi’s phone lay nearby, screen still lit on her chat with Song Yi.
Ling Xi herself was sprawled on the ground, seemingly unconscious.
Broken suppressant vials littered the area, liquid splattered everywhere, clinging to Ling Xi’s clothes.
The scene was chaotic, but before Steward Zhao could react, Song Yi had already rushed to Ling Xi and gathered her into her arms.
What kind of gentle alpha could resist the instinct to outright claim her prey during rut?
The bite wasn’t forceful less like hunting or marking, more like an affectionate tease.
After biting, Ling Xi regained some clarity upon releasing her grip.
She didn’t recognize Song Yi but knew the person holding her was an omega.
A remarkably strong one at that.
By now, the alpha pheromones in the air were potent, yet this omega showed no reaction.
She couldn’t let her rut spiral out of control, nor could she harm this omega who seemed genuinely concerned for her.
Suppressing her discomfort, Ling Xi edged backward.
Even Song Yi was taken aback by the retreat.
Was she… that unappealing as an omega?
“Doctor, am I beyond saving?” Ji Heng’s grave expression frightened Ling Xi into a sob as she shakily took the slip of paper.
“Sorry, I overreacted. You’re not terminally ill. It’s just… I’ve never seen a pulse like this before.”
It was as erratic as a critically ill patient’s, yet Ling Xi seemed fine otherwise.
“Did you use any suppressants during this rut cycle?”
Ji Heng could only monitor her further or suggest Song Yi take Ling Xi for a full-body checkup.
“No. Maybe I caught a chill from the wind.”
Nodding, Ji Heng input Ling Xi’s details into her tablet.
“For a Class B alpha, without additional stimuli, the heat symptoms usually aren’t severe. Suppressants aren’t strictly necessary.”
The higher the pheromone level, the more pronounced the improvement in physical constitution but it also intensifies the fever symptoms during special periods.
For someone like Song Yi, without taking suppressants in advance, she could never endure her heat cycle.
Even with suppressants, there was still a chance her pheromones would break through, filling the entire room with her scent.
The heat cycle usually lasted two to three days, and most of the time, Song Yi couldn’t go to the office in that state, opting to work from home instead.
“But this time was particularly severe. I remember my fever spiked to around 40°C. I was so dizzy I couldn’t even inject the suppressant. My pheromones kept leaking uncontrollably.”
That was why Song Yi also fell into a heat cycle, forcing them to… spend an intimate night together.
“Alright, thank you, Doctor.”
She gave Song Yi one last mark, then closed her eyes and fell asleep without a care for the mess around them.
Song Yi pressed a hand to her forehead.
Today had been wild.
Truly, youth meant boundless energy, how could she fall asleep so quickly after all that?
Song Yi sighed, though the corners of her lips curled into an irrepressible smile.
She wondered what Ling Xi would think tomorrow.
After resting for a while, Song Yi cleaned up the worst of the mess, then carried Ling Xi back to the bedroom.
Gazing at Ling Xi’s delicate features, Song Yi indulged in a satisfied daze before lying down beside her. She pulled Ling Xi’s hand over herself, pretending it was Ling Xi who had initiated the intimacy.
Just before closing her eyes, Song Yi caught a faint, soothing fragrance from the nightstand sandalwood, yet unable to mask the lingering scent of passion in the air.
Her newly acquired prayer beads had nearly met their demise again tonight.
Her ears burned, and she shut her eyes, refusing to dwell on it.
Ji Heng observed the young alpha well-behaved, clean, and pleasant and found herself quite satisfied.
As she stepped out of Ling Xi’s room, Song Yi’s dagger-like glare pinned her in place, making her hastily raise her hands in surrender.
“I didn’t do anything to your girlfriend. Just checked on her condition.”
“…She’s not yet.” Song Yi exhaled. “How is she?”
“Huh?” Not yet?
Ji Heng nearly stumbled. What had she just heard?
“Stop sidetracking.” Song Yi’s gaze was icy.
Ji Heng quickly hid the tablet behind her back. “That’s patient confidentiality. If she didn’t tell you, I can’t either.”
Song Yi narrowed her eyes, her expression turning even more dangerous.
“I happen to be free tomorrow. I don’t trust you alone with her.”
Yet Song Yi’s fingers traced Ling Xi’s hand, gliding down to her fingertips, a teasing, slippery touch.
A ticklish shiver ran through Ling Xi’s heart.
Startled, she could only stammer, “Thank you.”
“I won’t disturb you further. Maybe the prayer beads aren’t here, I’ll check elsewhere.”
After asking, Song Yi couldn’t bring herself to linger in the patient’s room any longer.
“Remember to take your medicine. Don’t eat breakfast tomorrow, we leave at 7:30.”
“Mm, got it. Thank you, Song Yi.”
Calling her name like that suddenly felt too distant.
Too shy to say more, Ling Xi turned away, hiding her face. Song Yi gently closed the door, catching a glimpse of her retreating figure through the gap her expression softening.
Goodnight. See you tomorrow, my little darling.
The next morning, Ling Xi felt her fever had mostly subsided.
When she went downstairs, Song Yi was already waiting.
She couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed.
To put it bluntly, Ling Yue simply couldn’t be bothered to engage emotionally.
“Don’t be so hasty. What if confessing rashly leads to a bad outcome?”
Ling Xi had only meant to tease, but who knew Jiang Yuyang would take it so seriously.
Jiang Yuyang released a sigh, letting go of her hand. “You’re right. She’s known me for years. If she liked me, she probably would’ve…”
“Look at it this way, she hasn’t been in a relationship all these years either. Maybe you still have a chance.” Ling Xi offered the casual comfort.
Jiang Yuyang nodded. “By the way, I already asked Qing Mo and Sister Tan to have dinner with us tonight. Don’t think you can dodge talking about that person who helped you like you did this morning.”
Ling Xi suddenly regretted bringing up the topic of romance.
Instead of stirring the pot, she got burned. “I have plans tonight…”
“What, going back to your savior?”
“…No!” Ling Xi’s neck flushed red.
Jiang Yuyang wasn’t entirely wrong.
Assuming Song Yi drank again tonight.
“I have to draw! I’ll be broke otherwise!” She hastily pulled out the most pressing excuse.
Jiang Yuyang gave her a resigned look. “Going back to draw your savior?”
“…Other people’s commissions! The deadline’s coming up! I don’t like her, and I’m not planning to date anyone!”
Puffing up in frustration, Ling Xi refused to stay for dinner no matter what.
“Thanks for today.” Once in the car, Ling Xi didn’t keep her distance from Song Yi this time. Instead, she inched slightly closer.
The gap between them narrowed only a fraction, but Song Yi noticed.
Her gaze flicked behind her glasses to Ling Xi’s hand.
Last night, she had left another “mark” there.
Regardless of its effect, at least Ling Xi was willing to relax around her now.
“It’s nothing. I’m just on leave anyway.”
Ling Xi nodded. “I’ll make it up to you by shopping with you this afternoon.”
Song Yi chuckled. “Good girl.”
That simple praise plucked at Ling Xi’s heartstrings.
Her fingers curled unconsciously, the places Song Yi had touched still warm.
She reminded her of her mother… yet was entirely different.
There was something else about Song Yi that Ling Xi couldn’t quite define.
Light as a cloud, yet vibrant as sunset.
Even this unfamiliar quality drew Ling Xi in.
Was it admiration that made her want to get closer?
Ling Xi didn’t understand only that her emotions were in turmoil.
At the hospital, Ling Xi stared at the sign for a long moment.
She followed Song Yi upstairs for the check-up, silent the entire time.
Song Yi, occupied with her own work, didn’t initiate conversation either.
But she found it odd, her gaze lingering on Ling Xi.
“Um, Song Yi, we still have half an hour, right? I need to use the restroom first.”
It was the weekend, and some company’s employees were there for their annual physicals, crowding the place.
The hall buzzed with noise, filled with terms like “pheromone levels,” “congenital defects,” and “heat cycles.”
Song Yi had to lean in closer.
Ling Xi tugged at her sleeve and repeated herself.
Finally hearing her, Song Yi nodded. “I’ll keep an eye on the queue. Go ahead.”
Ling Xi darted off before Song Yi could react.
She stared at the hallway where Ling Xi had disappeared, then exhaled slowly.
She sent a message to her contact at the hospital.
Ling Xi had gone several floors away to the inpatient ward.
“Here to see your mother? Don’t forget to pay the fees.” Her friend at the nurse’s station casually greeted her when she arrived.
“Yes, I will. I’ll transfer it to you on the first of next month as usual.” Ling Xi took a potted plant from her friend and carried it into room 1207.
Inside lay a woman in deep slumber.
Even with her eyes closed, one could see the woman bore at least fifty percent resemblance to Ling Xi.
“Mommy.” At this hour, the caregiver wasn’t present, allowing Ling Xi to relax slightly.
She reached out and touched her mother’s forehead.
“I’ve been… doing well lately.” After her rebirth, she’d successfully left Mu Jie behind and earned some money using skills her mother had taught her.
She truly was doing fine.
Yet her sister and mother remained missing without a trace.
Her mother was the only person she could see without needing connections or schemes.
The only pity was that even after half a year since the accident, her mother still hadn’t woken up.
Ling Xi choked back a sob, wiping away tears from the corners of her eyes.
She used to have a happy family.
But everything had collapsed in an instant.
Song Yi watched as Ling Xi entered the examination room, lost in thought.
If Ling Xi still had family by her side, she shouldn’t have been driven to the point of seeking help from strangers.
Could it be a friend then?
Song Yi’s curiosity burned, even as she scolded herself for prying, unable to let the matter go.
Setting aside her instinctive concern for Ling Xi, Mu Jie’s shadow still loomed over her.
Could it be that one of Ling Xi’s friends had fallen victim to Mu Jie’s cruelty, forcing Ling Xi to agree to the engagement?
The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
After a while, Song Yi grew furious at her own speculations. She took out her phone, composed a message, and sent it.
Mu Jie, busy maintaining order in the lab, suffered another attack. The damage numbers kept climbing, and the risk of their lab’s location being exposed increased dramatically.
Overwhelmed with work, she smashed several instruments in frustration.
Broken glass littered the floor as her subordinate reported in, not daring to breathe too loudly.
“The enemy is accelerating their attacks, and you still haven’t identified who’s behind this? Not even the reason for today’s assault or the IP address? What exactly do you all do here?” Mu Jie’s voice rose sharply.
