Seduced Me into a Deep Fall - Chapter 15
“Miss… have you abandoned all sense of decorum?” Housekeeper Zhao had never seen Song Yi disregard her image like this before.
Moreover, Song Yi had clearly taken an interest in that young alpha not only keeping her at home with meticulous care but repeatedly instructing the staff not to make any mistakes.
For instance, yesterday she deliberately sent them away, telling them to pretend to be busy in the garden. If Ling Xi asked, they were to say they were too occupied to assist her.
When had Song Yi ever done such things?
Housekeeper Zhao had practically watched Song Yi grow up and had never seen her show such tenderness and attentiveness toward anyone.
Normally, Song Yi was the epitome of restraint and propriety, cold and detached.
The elders in the family often worried about Song Yi’s marital prospects and the next generation’s heir, subtly and not-so-subtly urging her. They had even handpicked numerous high-quality, age-appropriate candidates of various genders, fearing Song Yi might have unconventional preferences.
But who could ever meet Song Yi’s standards? Not even the rising star of the biochemistry world, who had been thoroughly rebuffed, nor the self-made business prodigy who had built the nation’s top enterprise, had managed to secure a meeting with Song Yi during arranged dinners.
Eventually, the elders grew desperate and tried to force her into marriage.
Song Yi’s response? She went straight to a temple, returned with a string of prayer beads, and began wearing them daily, twirling them between her fingers, a clear rejection of romance, signaling her defiance against their pressure.
Housekeeper Zhao had no say in the family’s intricate schemes.
She cherished Song Yi like her own daughter, doting on her as if she were the apple of her eye.
If Song Yi didn’t want to marry, then so be it.
After all, Housekeeper Zhao didn’t think anyone was worthy of their young miss.
But these past few days, whenever Ling Xi was mentioned, Song Yi’s eyes softened like spring water, rippling with affection undeniable, profound fondness that anyone could see.
Had the two of them crossed paths before?
Otherwise, why would Song Yi suddenly treat an otherwise unremarkable alpha (aside from her looks) with such special consideration?
And to make matters more complicated, this alpha was Mu Xie’s fiancée.
They were already engaged, with a grand betrothal banquet to boot.
Could it be that the young alpha had secretly employed some underhanded tactic?
Without the two involved parties knowing, Housekeeper Zhao had set her sights on Ling Xi, determined to scrutinize her thoroughly on Song Yi’s behalf.
Their young miss had clearly been charmed senseless by this alpha.
As the housekeeper, she had to vet this properly.
“Image isn’t important.” If losing her dignity meant Ling Xi would spare her another glance, sparking even a hint of curiosity, it was more than worth it.
It was just a shame… they hadn’t seen each other in five or six years.
Ling Xi truly didn’t recognize her anymore.
Song Yi absently rubbed the prayer beads in her hand, her expression calm. Though her cool eyes still held a trace of amusement, there was also a faint, heartbreaking melancholy.
After what she had done last night…
Any other alpha would have pounced on her without hesitation, devouring her like a starved beast.
Only Ling Xi would be so considerate and restrained, enduring the discomfort in her glands rather than crossing the line or touching her improperly.
Perhaps it was precisely because of all this, Song Yi mused, that she couldn’t forget such a uniquely gentle alpha.
Between them… so many years had already passed.
“Besides, she thinks drunk-me and sober-me are two different people. The more exaggerated your descriptions, the more it helps lower her guard.”
Song Yi withdrew all the emotions from her eyes, leaving only an inscrutable smile at the corner of her lips.
This smile was so chilling that anyone who met her gaze would instinctively lower their eyes.
How many people dared to face her with that enigmatic expression?
Without another word, Song Yi finished her breakfast and leisurely left for work.
She left behind Housekeeper Zhao, who sighed while giving instructions to the household staff.
When it came to Song Yi’s love life, not a single mistake could be tolerated.
Though Housekeeper Zhao claimed dissatisfaction with Ling Xi, her actions told a different story.
After personally informing every staff member, she opened a webpage in the largest font size and searched: [What do twenty-year-old female alphas like?]
Ling Xi had fled from Song Yi’s home in a rush.
Only after escaping did she remember, Song Yi wouldn’t recall last night’s absurdities.
Her running away might actually pique Song Yi’s curiosity instead.
Ling Xi wiped her sweat.
If Song Yi asked… she’d lie about oversleeping and not keeping friends waiting.
Slowing her pace, Ling Xi caught her breath and pondered her plans for the day.
She’d barely walked ten minutes when a luxurious sapphire-blue luxury car pulled up beside her.
After a honk, the window rolled down.
Ling Xi turned to see Song Yi’s face.
She swallowed hard.
“Where to?” Song Yi asked simply, showing no displeasure or intention to reprimand.
Only then did Ling Xi relax slightly.
“I can go myself, don’t you have work?” Ling Xi stopped walking, bending down to speak through the window.
“No hurry. It’s on the way.” Truthfully, Song Yi didn’t want to disturb Ling Xi so frequently.
But seeing Ling Xi from the car, how could she resist?
No amount of reason could restrain her impulse, so she’d told the driver to approach.
“Really, it’s not necessary.” Ling Xi’s words caught in her throat at Song Yi’s ice-cold glare.
“Then… thank you.” That gaze was terrifying…
If looks could kill, Ling Xi felt she’d have been stabbed dead on the spot.
“Where to?” Song Yi sat in the backseat.
When the door opened, she glanced up from her tablet, eyeing Ling Xi sideways.
Ling Xi noticed the champagne-colored gemstone earrings dangling below her ears, the same pair from last night.
At least she’d changed into formal attire. Ling Xi quickly averted her eyes, masking her inner turmoil. “Just drop me at the commercial district.”
Song Yi withdrew her gaze without further conversation.
She didn’t want to scare her off.
Am I that frightening? Song Yi silently reflected.
Why did Ling Xi always tense up like a mouse spotting a cat?
After some driving, Song Yi reviewed a document from her secretary and asked, “Have you been frequenting the commercial district lately?”
“Huh?” Ling Xi sat stiffly on the expensive car seat, terrified of dirtying it.
“Mostly? Unless friends invite me out, I’d be at home. But we usually meet there.”
Puzzled, Ling Xi turned to look at Song Yi.
Seeing her adorable, bewildered eyes made Song Yi’s heart itch with warmth.
“So today’s a meetup. No wonder you were in such a hurry this morning.” She offered Ling Xi an out.
“Well, they wouldn’t mind if I’m a little late.” Though in truth, Ling Xi had no plans today.
“Tardiness isn’t a good habit. My driving you works out perfectly.”
“Thank you…” Ling Xi lowered her head shyly.
“Have you considered reapplying for identity documents and bank cards?” After a pause, Song Yi spoke again.
Ling Xi let out an “Ah,” only then remembering such important matters, she had completely forgotten about them yesterday while having fun.
“That is necessary.” Ling Xi bit her lip, feeling too embarrassed to mention how her bank cards had been controlled.
“Just go ahead and open new ones.” Song Yi closed her tablet and looked at Ling Xi.
“I told you, Mu Xie won’t have time to bother you.” At the very least, she needed to keep Mu Xie and any suspicious individuals far away from the commercial district for now.
Ling Xi found herself captivated by those phoenix-like eyes, unable to discern the emotions within them.
Song Yi seemed bathed in light, the morning sun streaming through the car window and casting a soft, golden outline on her back.
Yet when she spoke, her words were so earnest, paired with those dazzling diamond-like eyes, that Ling Xi couldn’t help but be enchanted.
Suddenly, Ling Xi recalled the fleeting touch Song Yi had left on her collarbone the night before.
A tender itch crept into her heart, mingling with the faint fragrance of agarwood and a hint of autumn sunlight.
Within that scent was a fleeting sweetness, like the aroma of bergamot.
Ling Xi pinched the hem of her clothes. “Thank you!”
After a moment’s thought, that didn’t seem formal enough, so she attempted to bow to Song Yi. “I’m really, truly grateful.”
Song Yi waved her hand. “It was nothing. I’ve… also had enough of Mu Xie for a long time.”
Ever since Mu Xie suddenly announced his relationship with Ling Xi.
That name had already been blacklisted by Song Yi.
Frustrated by the lack of opportunity to act, and equally frustrated by her own hope that Ling Xi would be happy with someone she loved.
Now that greed had taken over, and it was clear Ling Xi didn’t like Mu Xie at all.
How could she not make life difficult for Mu Xie, after all those sleepless nights?
“Still, I have to thank you. If it weren’t for you…” Ling Xi trailed off, leaving her words hanging.
There was more meaning beneath her words, making Song Yi perk up her ears, but no continuation came.
“I’ll go take care of it in the next couple of days.” When they reached the commercial district, Ling Xi got out of the car. Before closing the door, she bent down to say one last thing to Song Yi.
“Wishing you a smooth and happy day! I’ll be going now.”
With that, she ran off, just as she had that morning, clearly embarrassed.
So it was shyness, not fear.
Song Yi pressed a hand to her chest, where her heart was beating too fast.
A smooth and happy day…
With Ling Xi’s words, surely her day would be just that, wouldn’t it?
Only when Ling Xi was completely out of sight did Song Yi’s smile fade.
She dialed a number. “Keep gathering intel slowly is fine. But don’t go easy on causing trouble for him. Monitor the flow of funds and information behind her.”
Not to mention Ling Xi’s situation.
Song Yi had always been curious about what lay behind Mu Xie’s mysterious, seemingly fragile niece.
This was the perfect opportunity to investigate.
That outsider left behind by her grandmother would only become a problem if not dealt with soon.
Ling Xi figured she had nothing else to do today, so she might as well go and reapply for her bank cards and other documents.
She finished at the bank in the morning and went to the public security office in the afternoon.
Coincidentally, she ran into Yun Fengzhi, who was out on duty.
“Aren’t you…?” Yun Fengzhi was surprised to see Ling Xi.
Old Song actually let her go?
Wait, no. Old Song hadn’t made her move yet?
Otherwise, why would Ling Xi be alone?
Could her S-rank Omega best friend, adored by millions, actually lose her charm one day?
“Officer sister.” Ling Xi recognized the woman before her as the one who’d taken her statement earlier and greeted her properly.
She looked so well-behaved clean-cut and adorable, no wonder Song Yi liked her so much.
…And calling her “the one in my heart” so formally, how nauseatingly sweet.
Yun Fengzhi decided to tease this honest and reserved little Alpha.
“Are you alone? Didn’t your girlfriend come with you today?”
She totally didn’t know who Song Yi was. Yun Fengzhi silently reminded herself.
What connection could there possibly be between Yun Fengzhi and the Yun family’s eldest daughter? They absolutely weren’t the same person.
So, she also didn’t know Song Yi, didn’t know Song Yi was playing the long game.
She only knew what Ling Xi herself had said that she and Song Yi were a couple.
Ling Xi’s face flushed bright red instantly.
