Secretly Liking Him - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Gu Xun was deeply shocked to his core, to the point that when Min Yibo asked him if that was how it was, he couldn’t even react.
Min Yibo, however, already believed it was a hook, line, and sinker. It was also to be blamed on that “good boy” skin Shen Yanzhi wore so well; furthermore, the events regarding Hu Lei had actually happened, so even this veteran male teacher was completely deceived.
Looking at Gu Xun’s sweat-drenched, dazed face, Min Yibo even felt pity in his heart, thinking what a pity it was that such a fine, lively child had been scared to such an extent.
Having been deceived, “Great King Min” gave a large wave of his hand: “Go to class first! I will handle this matter!”
Shen Yanzhi seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, carrying a hint of the admiration and trust unique to a youth: “Thank you, Teacher Min.”
Min Yibo waved his hand, indicating that this was simply what a teacher of the people ought to do and there was no need for thanks at all. How could violence be used to solve problems at such a young age! This absolutely could not be tolerated!
And then, Gu Xun was dragged away by Shen Yanzhi.Gu Xun listened to the bell and felt a secret sense of relief in his heart. Fortunately, it wasn’t Monday and there was no flag-raising ceremony or school assembly; otherwise, the two of them would have had to run through the gate in front of the entire school’s teachers and students.
When the two of them burst into the classroom, the whole room erupted in cheers.
While pulling his backpack down from his shoulder, Gu Xun didn’t forget to wave at everyone. He didn’t look like someone who had arrived just in the nick of time; instead, he looked like he had returned from a victorious battle.
Shen Yanzhi stuffed his backpack into the desk drawer, reached out directly to pull him onto his chair, and then swiftly pulled a book from the stack sitting on Gu Xun’s desk and placed it on the tabletop.
Being pulled like that, Gu Xun’s butt hit the chair hard enough to hurt. He grimaced and was just about to say something when he heard the sound of high-heeled footsteps getting closer and closer.
Gu Xun immediately went silent.
The English teacher was a quite fashionable young woman. Entering the door, she first greeted them in English with a smile: “Good morning, class.”
Everyone replied in unison in English: “Good morning, teacher.”
Gu Xun followed along with his mouth, but his eyes landed on his desk surface. Sitting right there was an English textbook.
Gu Xun instinctively turned his head to look at Shen Yanzhi and discovered that the first book on top of the stack on Shen Yanzhi’s desk was also English.
When the female teacher on the podium asked the students to turn their books to the page they reached yesterday, Gu Xun still couldn’t shift his gaze back.
Shen Yanzhi nudged him inconspicuously with his elbow, and only then did Gu Xun hurriedly flip through his book.
Gu Xun didn’t even know how he got through that English class; it felt like he just spaced out and then it was over.
He did remember that Shen Yanzhi was called upon again to answer a question. His English sounded even better than the teacher’s, and his calm demeanor while answering caused several girls to let out small gasps of admiration.
Gu Xun actually wanted to gasp in admiration too, but after finding out last night that Shen Yanzhi reads Shakespeare in the original text, he felt this sort of thing was just a “drizzle” hardly worth mentioning.
In front of him, Wang Xiaosong was babbling about something, but he didn’t hear a word of it. He just watched Shen Yanzhi put the English book at the very bottom of the stack on the desk.
Gu Xun instinctively asked: “The next period is Math?”
Shen Yanzhi turned to glance at him and gave an affirmative: “Mm.”
Although he didn’t ask, Gu Xun instantly knew: Shen Yanzhi’s books were arranged according to the class schedule, not just tossed randomly on the desk like his own.
Thinking about how Shen Yanzhi had helped him find his book earlier, Gu Xun felt a warm sensation in his heart.
Wang Xiaosong: “…Gu Xun, do you think I’m dead?”
Gu Xun was busy savoring that warm feeling in his heart and didn’t want to pay attention to Wang Xiaosong at all, but then felt it wasn’t right to ignore him, so he asked rather reluctantly: “What are you saying?”
Wang Xiaosong: “…I asked how you two ended up living together! I shouted downstairs for ages this morning! I thought you guys had left early! You didn’t even give me a call yesterday; if I hadn’t called your house, I wouldn’t even know if you were dead or alive!”
Because he had been ignored by Gu Xun just now, Wang Xiaosong’s voice was a bit loud, causing many students around them to look their way.
For a moment, Gu Xun felt that the way several girls were looking at him and Shen Yanzhi was “not quite right,” giving him a creepy feeling.
Gu Xun instinctively leaned a bit closer to Shen Yanzhi and then lied to Wang Xiaosong: “Well, didn’t A-Yan kick that guy Hu? My mom was in contact with that side, and I was worried A-Yan would be anxious, so I went to find him. It ended up getting late, so I just slept at his place…”
Wang Xiaosong probably remembered that world-shaking kick too, and because the atmosphere was so tense at the time and he hadn’t had a deep exchange with Shen Yanzhi like Gu Xun had afterward, his impression of Shen Yanzhi remained that of a “good student” with extraordinary combat power. Thus, he didn’t suspect anything regarding this answer.
However, Wang Xiaosong suddenly noticed something: “Hey, how come I remember you taking the same uniform size as me?”
The uniform Gu Xun was wearing now fit quite well, unlike his usual habit of liking baggy clothes. Especially yesterday when they collected uniforms, Gu Xun had even laughed, saying that though their builds were different, the sizes they wore were the same.
Gu Xun looked down at the summer uniform on his body and said without much thought: “Oh, it’s A-Yan’s. Didn’t you see that A-Yan is wearing long sleeves?”
When he left yesterday, even taking his backpack was just to fool his mom so she’d think he really went to Shen Yanzhi’s to do homework. How could he have remembered the requirement to wear the school uniform?
If he hadn’t seen Shen Yanzhi wearing the uniform before they left the house, he wouldn’t have remembered either.
Wang Xiaosong looked at the composed Shen Yanzhi who was wearing long sleeves in a classroom where heatwaves were rolling despite the fans being on and said sincerely: “I thought he just liked it…”
After all, excellent people all have a few quirks. For a high-level talent as excellent as Shen Yanzhi, even if he wore mink in the summer, Wang Xiaosong would think it was just “personality.”
Gu Xun was just about to speak when someone patted his shoulder. He turned his head and saw it was a female classmate, so he asked: “What’s up?”
The girl asked, struggling to remain calm: “Gu Xun, you stayed at Student Shen’s house yesterday, and now you’re wearing his uniform?”
Gu Xun: “Uh… yeah, is there a problem?”
The girl’s composure instantly snapped. Like a startled fawn, she hopped back to her small circle of friends, as if she had some earth-shattering gossip to share.
Gu Xun: “…I feel like I don’t understand the brain circuits of the girls in our class.”
Wang Xiaosong glanced at him: “Is there anything you do understand?”
Gu Xun stroked his chin and pondered carefully, finally choosing a powerful example: “I think my grasp on my mom’s thoughts is quite accurate. I can basically manage to not get beaten!”
Wang Xiaosong was immediately envious: “Truly impressive…”
Shen Yanzhi glanced back at the circle of girls whispering together, then at Gu Xun who was talking to Wang Xiaosong, and then said nothing.
The rest of the time until lunch passed quite peacefully. During the break, “Great King Min” had sought them out, basically saying that he had already contacted Hu Lei’s parents and that such things definitely wouldn’t happen again. He told them to study hard and not worry about this matter anymore.
At the time, because Gu Xun was busy admiring Shen Yanzhi’s acting skills, he almost gave the secret away in front of Min Yibo. Fortunately, Shen Yanzhi was clever and dragged him away before the suspicion could take root.
After the last class of the morning ended, Gu Xun immediately turned to look at Shen Yanzhi.
Shen Yanzhi was slowly packing his books and pens. Turning to meet Gu Xun’s gaze, he let out a questioning “Mm?” from his nose.
Gu Xun didn’t quite know how to open his mouth. He hadn’t dared to ask last night, and this morning had been too stimulating. Only now was he finally facing the issue again.
Wang Xiaosong, sitting in front, gave them a resentful look before rushing toward the canteen with the crowd.
Not long after the bell rang, only the two of them were left in the classroom.
Gu Xun was still hesitating, but the already-packed Shen Yanzhi stood up first and asked him from above: “Why are you sitting there like a fool? Auntie is waiting.”
Gu Xun froze for a moment, then asked joyfully: “You’re coming back with me to eat?!”
Shen Yanzhi looked at him and gave a calm “Mm.”
Gu Xun never knew that such a simple word could make someone happy to this extent.
He felt his face was a bit hot and unconsciously licked his lips, then “sprang” to his feet: “Go go home!”
On the way back, Gu Xun kept looking for things to say: “Walking back is a bit slow, but we don’t have to hurry during the meal. We can ride bikes when we come back. My mom bought me a new bike before; later, you ride the new one and I’ll ride the old one.”
As a result, Shen Yanzhi “one-shotted” him with a single sentence: “I don’t know how.”
Gu Xun: “…”
Gu Xun felt his face get even hotter: “Then… then I’ll carry you…”
Shen Yanzhi gave an affirmative sound, thought about it, and said: “When I have time, I’ll learn.”
Gu Xun opened his mouth, not knowing if he should say “I’ll teach you” or “No need, no need, I carry Wang Xiaosong very easily, carrying you is no trouble at all.”
Gu Xun was currently debating this when he suddenly heard a car horn. He turned his head—Whoa, wasn’t the one driving his dad!
Gu Jingyuan rolled down the car window and greeted them with a smile: “Quick, get in.”
Gu Xun immediately introduced him to Shen Yanzhi: “My dad! He came to pick us up!”
Shen Yanzhi politely called out: “Hello, Uncle Gu.”
Shen Yanzhi’s appearance was already the type elders liked, and combined with his politeness, it was simply “lethal” (in terms of charm).
The smile on Gu Jingyuan’s face deepened a few degrees: “Hey! Hello to you too, Little Shen! Quick, get in the car, it’s hot outside!”
Then the two boys both climbed into the back seat. The air conditioning was on in the car, and it instantly became much cooler.
Gu Xun wished he could glue himself to the air vent. Gu Jingyuan, seeing this from the front, couldn’t help but remind him: “Don’t blow it directly on yourself, watch out for a headache.”
Only then did Gu Xun reluctantly move away. But as soon as he leaned against the seat back, he remembered that Shen Yanzhi was sensitive to the cold. He immediately turned to look at him. Seeing that Shen Yanzhi had indeed intentionally sat a bit further away from the vent, he reached out and shut the vent off.
Seeing him close the vent, Shen Yanzhi asked: “You aren’t hot anymore?”
Gu Xun gave a vague affirmative, not daring to let the words “I’m afraid you’re cold” out of his mouth.
