- Chapter 104 - "Don't be afraid."
Lu Xibie stood still, her hand shielding Chu Liruo, who then grabbed her arm, interlocking their hands.
Silence permeated the darkness. No one could be sure if the behemoth that summoned them was friend or foe.
“Where is she?” A maw opened in the darkness, cone-shaped teeth faintly visible.
A force, treating the protective shield as nothing, seized Lu Xibie. Their clasped hands were broken apart by this power.
A faint blue light wing flashed behind Chu Liruo. A vine extended from her palm, coiling around Lu Xibie’s calf. She followed, rising into the air.
Amber eyes came closer to Lu Xibie. She glanced at the scarlet behind the sharp teeth, then turned to Chu Liruo, shaking her head, trying to tear off the vine on her calf.
“Don’t be afraid.”
A light touch on her back felt like reassurance.
A blue-black whale fin appeared beneath Chu Liruo, lifting her to the same level as Lu Xibie.
“You carry her scent, my old friend—” The ending was mournful, seemingly guessing the demise of the Love God Sea Rabbit.
“She’s gone,” Lu Xibie murmured, sadness flowing through her large pupils.
Her hand was held from behind by Chu Liruo, settling Lu Xibie’s heart.
“You are that outsider soul?”
“Hmm?” Lu Xibie was surprised.
“I finally found you.”
“How do you know I’m from another world?” Lu Xibie asked; even Chu Liruo had only recently learned this.
“A prophecy.”
A faint glow emerged from the darkness. Blue light illuminated the seawater, revealing a colossal blue whale before Lu Xibie. She was riddled with wounds. Mutated box jellyfish clung to her baleen, mutated piglet squid gnawed at her caudal fin, and maroon mutated crown-of-thorns starfish stuck tightly to her skin. Hundreds of mutated organisms bound her in place, unable to move.
Orange characters appeared in the air.
“Abyss-Bound Whale, Outsider Soul, World Salvation, Pure Healing.”
“Finally, this endless torment can end,” the blue whale sighed. Blue light poured from her brow and into Lu Xibie’s body: “I entrust it to you.”
Lu Xibie: “Senior?”
“I am a blue whale born in the abyss. The blue whale clan has been the guardians of the Ruiwan Sea for generations. Since that strange thing mixed into the seawater, the catastrophe began. Other clans, besides mine, couldn’t resist mutation, becoming fierce and aggressive, slaughtering and fighting in the sea, which gradually became a notorious place of death…”
“This is where the catastrophe first erupted, and where the mutation is most severe. As you can see, I am the only one left of my clan, and I will soon be gone too. I desperately wish for the world to return to its un-mutated state, but it is already difficult to achieve.”
“They bound me here, and I, with my flesh and blood, also anchored them in place. But when I hand this ability over to you, I won’t be able to hold them for long. They will certainly come ashore within a month, causing widespread suffering. Please hurry…”
Her voice grew weaker, weary and exhausted.
“What should we do?” Lu Xibie asked. A chill penetrated her lungs. This energy clashed with her own, circulating to her lower abdomen and slowly merging, creating a strange sensation.
She couldn’t bear to look at the whale’s appearance. She had seen what un-mutated creatures looked like in the necklace Chu Liruo wore, but now they had fangs and eyes filled with murder and savagery. Who was to blame?
It could only be attributed to the illegal biological experiments started by the Yejian family years ago.
Lu Xibie: “Can you let go of me?”
“Alright, stay put, don’t move, or go into her protective shield.”
Lu Xibie swam towards the blue whale. She didn’t know if the purification ability could be used after transferring the necklace to Chu Liruo.
“What are you doing?” Chu Liruo followed Lu Xibie. The protective shield enveloped both of them. The whale fin moved towards them, trying to push them away.
“Don’t come over. They will attack you. The little one is SSS-class, but her power shouldn’t be wasted here. Do what you need to do.”
Lu Xibie was the first to touch a mutated firefly octopus. The frantic octopus immediately calmed down the moment it was touched. Its tentacles went limp, and it floated away from the blue whale.
Warm light overflowed from Chu Liruo’s hand, entering the wound. The flesh began to heal, and the skin became smooth and new.
One by one, the mutated creatures detached from the blue whale. Their piercing screams turned into noisy chatter.
“Those injuries on her were inflicted by me…”
“Oh my god, what have I done?!”
“We, we…”
“Don’t, you…” The blue whale tried to stop them. Her physical condition was visibly improving, and she spoke with more strength.
Wounds scattered across her body healed one after another. She gradually saw the mutated creatures that used to bite her regain their senses. The savage look in their eyes disappeared.
“I… I’m sorry.” Voices, some young, some old, flowed into her ears.
Until the last wound healed, she swished her tail fin, her body feeling lighter.
“Now you don’t need to give me your ability,” Lu Xibie covered her brow. She was afraid the blue whale would vanish after losing her power, like the Love God Sea Rabbit.
“No,” the blue light passed through Lu Xibie’s hand and merged into her brow: “I stay in the deep sea my whole life. Only you can make this ability truly useful.”
“Ah… It’s so uncomfortable. Pain… That feeling is coming back.”
“Hiss—the energy is rampaging inside me!”
“No, not again!”
The widened eyes of a yellow-spotted fish instantly turned red. It opened its bloody maw and bit the piglet fish.
“Ah!”
Lu Xibie reached out and pressed the yellow-spotted fish. Its glowing red eyes returned to normal.
“Aah aah aah aah aah!!!”
“Aah aah aah aah aah!!!!”
The piglet fish’s screams echoed in the deep sea.
“It’s alright,” Lu Xibie comforted.
The piercing screams tested the limits of her hearing. She observed the various creatures present, quickly touching and purifying them as they were about to mutate.
“This won’t work,” Chu Liruo said. The completely polluted seawater would continually cause the creatures to mutate unless the water was fully purified.
“Take them away,” Lu Xibie pointed to the necklace Chu Liruo was wearing.
Chu Liruo: “How can I let them in?”
Lu Xibie formed a hand seal, displaying to Chu Liruo the scene of the Love God Sea Rabbit placing creatures into the necklace that day.
Pink light spilled from the necklace, enveloping all the purified creatures. They gently swayed inside the pink shield, shrinking proportionally and flying into the necklace.
“Done,” Chu Liruo examined the necklace and gently put it down: “I wonder what method can purify this seawater.”
“Reaching SSS-class,” Lu Xibie said. After the blue whale gave her the ability, she also told her how to restore the world to its original state.
Chu Liruo: “You enter SSS-class?”
Lu Xibie: “Yes.”
For several years, Gu Ruyue was the first human to infinitely approach SSS-class. The battle with the Eight-Faced Spider reduced a quarter of the Eternal Sun Star’s land to scorched earth. Her remaining energy has protected humanity ever since her demise.
“Buzz buzz…” Chu Liruo’s optical computer vibrated.
Lu Xibie: “Let’s go up.”
Waiting at the edge of the Ruiwan Sea, Kou Yilan and the others rushed over to Chu Liruo and Lu Xibie, checking them thoroughly before saying a word.
“Energy stable.”
“Life index normal.”
Kou Yilan sighed in relief: “Let’s go back.”
A faintly glowing protective shield enclosed everyone. The Spiritual Phantom unfolded behind Chu Liruo: “Hold tight.”
A streak of light pierced the murky air of the S-117 Anomaly Zone, flying rapidly towards Zhigu Military Academy.
Kou Yilan grabbed the teacher next to her to avoid being jostled into sitting down.
“This speed exceeds that of a typical battleship!”
“Is this the power of SSS-class?”
“Healing, attacking, and a flying skill. Humanity must surely be saved now.”
After dropping off Kou Yilan and the others at Zhigu Military Academy, Chu Liruo and Lu Xibie immediately rushed to the Mingling United City.
Several united cities had fallen one after another, and the group armies sent to suppress them were successively wiped out. Innate abilities suddenly vanished, and those with talent skills lost their power instantly, becoming lambs to the slaughter. Tan Ruijing, in a short time, became notorious, her reputation far surpassing the strongest existing mutated creatures.
However, worse things were still happening. The mutated creature clusters exhibited intelligence and were systematically and premeditatedly invading major defense zones. Humanity was under attack on all fronts. Military academy cadets entered the front lines, battling the mutated creatures.
“You’ve come.” Tan Ruijing raised her head, her yellow and pink compound eyes staring intently at the two people suspended in the air.
In addition to two main eyes, she had several compound eyes on her eyelids. Hundreds of legs below her waist moved quickly, lifting her into the air. Several streams of venom spewed forth. The Portuguese Man-of-War no longer needed to hide, extending its arms. Hydrozoan polyps blew one bubble after another. The gases were smooth like silk, attempting to penetrate their eyes: “Deprivation.”
“Go.” Chu Liruo formed a hand seal. The venom slid off the protective shield. The Spiritual Rabbit popped up from her shoulder, kicking towards Dan Rui Jing.
“Bang!” Tan Ruijing took the blow head-on, retreating several steps before stopping: “Hmph!”
She glared at Lu Xibie, her eyes like materialized sharp swords.
If Lu Xibie hadn’t given her the fake evolution serum, she wouldn’t have ended up in this non-human, non-ghost state.
“Forgotten already? You can’t deprive me of my ability.” Chu Liruo formed a hand seal. The energy surrounding Tan Ruijing was dense black, even more potent than that of an SS-class mutated creature, and her physical form was distorted.
Chu Liruo had seen a mutated Gui’an tree consume human limbs and grow them on itself. Could it be—
Tan Ruijing pulled a mutated long-haired turtle into her hands. Branches extended from the turtle’s abdomen. The long-haired turtle’s limbs disappeared at a visible speed, and a turtle shell covered Dan Rui Jing’s body.
“Your degree of mutation will only get higher this way,” Lu Xibie said.
Dan Rui Jing scoffed: “So what.”
Lu Xibie: “You’ll be no different from the mutated creatures.”
“Hmph.” Tan Ruijing raised her hand and swung down. Thousands of mutated creatures surged towards Lu Xibie and Chu Liruo.
“Open!” Chu Liruo welcomed them all. The protective shield enclosed the surging mutated creatures. Lu Xibie closed her eyes, her palm held vertically before her brow. Pink light permeated every corner of the shield.
“Principal Di,” Lu Xibie opened her eyes and nodded to Di Mengzhu. A gray door opened inside the protective shield, sucking in the purified creatures one by one and transferring them to Zhigu Military Academy.
“Wow! What is this?”
“So fluffy and cute!”
“Look at its ears, ahhh, they retract when you touch them! Quick, let me kiss it!”
The purified mutated creatures returned to their original appearance. Their aggression sharply decreased. As soon as they regained consciousness, they were divided up and cared for by the teachers and students remaining at Zhigu Military Academy.
Tan Ruijing tilted her head, staring at the gray door inside the protective shield. She knew Di Mengzhu’s ability, but with so many ferocious mutated creatures, where could she transfer them?
With their combat strength rapidly reduced, Chu Liruo and Lu Xibie immediately closed in on Tan Ruijing. Lu Xibie reached out, and a faint pink light enveloped Dan Rui Jing from top to bottom.
The red and purple lines in those pink eyes began to recede, then suddenly reappeared. Tan Ruijing’s body shrank and she burrowed into the earth to escape.
