Running Towards You - Chapter 58.2
Ji Yin’s smile faded slightly. “How did it come to this.”
“I’ve been asking myself the same question for six months and still don’t get it.” He flicked the ash. “That’s why I say love’s a mystery, I don’t believe in it. It’s just hormones and novelty. Once that fades, it’s over.”
Ji Yin looked at him calmly. “Could it be because your backgrounds and families were too different, making it hard to live together?”
“Maybe.” He tossed the cigarette aside and picked up his briefcase. “Enough about that. I’m starting a new job tomorrow. Maybe we’ll meet again someday.”
“Yeah, see you around.”
“Oh, one more thing.” Before leaving, he leaned in conspiratorially. “Are you dating that female doctor?”
Ji Yin stayed silent.
“Don’t worry, I’ve been around seen it all. Just curious, so I asked. No pressure to answer.”
“Yes.” Ji Yin hadn’t expected the first person she’d confess her relationship to would be this patient she barely knew. “We’re together.”
“You mentioned before her family’s well-off, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Ah.” He patted her shoulder earnestly. “Take a lesson from my mistakes. I hope you don’t end up like me.”
Distractedly, Ji Yin left the hospital and stopped by her new store to check on the renovations. Progress was smooth. After walking around a bit and seeing Dong Xiang overseeing things, she idly headed back to the supermarket.
She wandered aimlessly for a while before suddenly changing direction and heading to the home appliances section. After glancing around, she approached the staff member in charge of that area and asked, “Which product here would be most suitable as a gift?”
The employee, thinking she was testing their knowledge, put on a professional tone and replied, “That depends on who you’re giving it to. Different people like different things, and it also depends on the purpose.”
“What about for an elderly person?”
“What kind of elderly person? For example, what was their profession, and what are their usual hobbies?”
Ji Yin remembered Lu Jiahe mentioning that his father was a chemistry teacher and vaguely recalled him saying he liked tea.
“Is there anything suitable for a teacher?”
“Yes, you could give this massage chair or a foot-soaking tub. Teachers stand all day during classes, so soaking their feet at night would make them feel much more comfortable.”
Ji Yin nodded. The massage chair was too bulky and hard to move, but the foot-soaking tub seemed like a good choice.
She picked out the most expensive foot-soaking tub, grabbed two tins of premium tea leaves, and went straight to Lu Jiahe’s home.
Lu Jiahe was out having dinner with his family his parents, as well as his uncle and aunt’s families making for a lively gathering.
As Ji Yin entered the door code, she felt a little nervous. The owner wasn’t home, yet here she was, boldly walking in.
So exciting!
After placing the gifts neatly, she couldn’t resist circling the living room a few times, then wandered into the study. She left her footprints in the guest room and bathroom before finally arriving at Lu Jiahe’s bedroom.
This was the only place she had never set foot in before.
The bedroom was tidy, with clothes neatly hung in the closet. The vanity table was lined with bottles and jars, along with some cosmetics.
She curiously examined them, picking up a few perfume bottles to sniff one by one. Finally, she found the scent she liked the most and took a photo of it.
Turning around, she looked at the large bed. The weather had turned cold, and the fluffy blanket looked incredibly warm.
She walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. The mattress was so comfortable that she lay back, rolling around a few times, utterly relaxed.
When Lu Jiahe returned home, he noticed the foot-soaking tub in the living room and was puzzled. Glancing around, he saw the bedroom light was on.
Standing at the doorway, he found Ji Yin sprawled on his bed, fast asleep.
He sat down beside her, gazing at her face as his fingers lightly traced her features before pinching her nose.
Ji Yin, struggling to breathe, opened her eyes and saw Lu Jiahe smiling down at her. “You’re back?”
“Yeah. How long have you been here? Why didn’t you message me?”
“A while now,” Ji Yin said. “I figured you were having dinner with your parents and didn’t want to interrupt your family gathering.”
“Is that foot-soaking tub outside from you?” Lu Jiahe asked.
“Yes, along with two tins of tea they’re birthday gifts for your dad. Can you give them to him for me?”
“They’re still awake. Why don’t you go and give them yourself?”
“No, no, it’s so late. I shouldn’t disturb their rest,” Ji Yin quickly refused. “Besides, I’m not that familiar with them. Showing up unannounced would probably startle them.”
“Alright.” Lu Jiahe tugged at her collar. “My bed is only for people wearing pajamas to lie on.”
Ji Yin startled and tried to sit up, only to be pushed back down.
“Forget it, I was going to change and wash these clothes in a couple of days anyway.” Lu Jiahe’s fingers trailed up her neck, pinching her chin as she leaned down to press a kiss to her lips. Gazing at the dazed Ji Yin, she smiled gently. “Next time we go to bed, remember to shower and change your clothes.”
“Okay.”
Lu Jiahe chuckled and was about to stand up when her wrist was suddenly grabbed. Turning back, she found Ji Yin already sitting up, pressing her other hand against the back of Lu Jiahe’s head before pulling her in, clumsily licking at her lips.
As if receiving a signal, Lu Jiahe parted her lips slightly, allowing Ji Yin to tentatively slip her tongue inside.
Lu Jiahe’s eyes curved into crescents before closing, surrendering completely to the sensation of her presence.
Ji Yin, overwhelmed with excitement, fumbled recklessly at first. But as Lu Jiahe gently soothed her back, her movements gradually slowed, falling into rhythm giving and taking, chasing and tangling, until they moved in perfect sync.
When she saw the anticipation in Lu Jiahe’s eyes, Ji Yin couldn’t resist kissing her again.
“Do you like me?” Ji Yin whispered.
“Of course, of course I like you.” Cupping her face, Lu Jiahe captured her lips, alternating between tender licks, playful nips, and bold invasions of her mouth, conquering every inch with unrestrained passion.
“That’s enough.”
The mere thought that she was kissing Lu Jiahe sent tremors through Ji Yin’s heart.
So this was what it felt like love traveling from lips straight to the heart.
She thought, no matter if they might part ways in the future, while love still lingered between them now, she would love with all her might.
