Running Towards You - Chapter 47.2
“True, you always think things through.” Yanzi took a bite of her food and suddenly pointed at the thermos on the nightstand. “Where’d this come from?”
Ji Yin glanced at it and grinned. “Dr. Lu brought me some soup.”
“Wow, you two are getting along so well now. Why not just become sworn sisters? I wouldn’t mind having another older sister,” Yanzi teased.
“What, one sister isn’t enough for you?”
“I don’t want one like you. I’d prefer someone like Dr. Lu.”
“Dream on. She might not even want a little sister like you,” Ji Yin snorted.
“Then what kind does she like? Could it be someone like you?”
Ji Yin fell uncharacteristically silent, poking at her food. “Who knows?”
“Wait, do you actually want to be her sister?”
“What sister?” Dr. Lu Jiahe’s voice suddenly came from the doorway.
“Dr. Lu’s here!” Yanzi stood up to greet her. “We were just talking about you. My sister here wants to be your little sister!”
“Is that so?” Lu Jiahe walked to the bedside with a smile, looking down at Ji Yin. “You want to be my sister?”
“Of course not. Don’t listen to her nonsense. I’m not becoming anyone’s sister,” Ji Yin retorted.
“Then what do you want to be?”
Ji Yin opened her mouth but couldn’t form a complete word.
“Dr. Lu, have you eaten? Want to join us?” Yanzi asked.
“No need. I just came to check in. Since you’re here, I’ll head back now,” Lu Jiahe said.
“Alright, see you later, Dr. Lu.”
Ji Yin watched her leave wistfully, realizing she hadn’t even managed to say much to her. She couldn’t help feeling a little down and worried. “Did I sound too harsh just now?”
“Isn’t that just how you always talk?”
“But am I usually harsh? Could Dr. Lu have misunderstood and thought I was snapping at her?”
“No, I think she’s used to it. Why are you suddenly so sentimental?”
“Who the heck is being sentimental?”
Yanzi stayed at the hospital until past ten, even practicing her makeup skills at one point. She turned to Ji Yin with exaggerated under-eye bags and asked playfully, “How do I look?”
“Get out. You’re terrifying. Those ‘bags’ are practically coming to life.”
“…” Yanzi packed up her makeup. “I’ll be back tomorrow to scare you again!”
Ji Yin thought for a moment. “Fine.”
As Yanzi gathered Ji Yin’s clothes to take home, she asked, “Anything else you need me to bring?”
Ji Yin hesitated, then nodded. “Actually, yes.”
“What?”
Ji Yin pulled her down and whispered, “Buy me a nice set of underwear.”
Yanzi was utterly shocked, her under-eye muscles nearly jumping out of her skin. “Are you serious?”
“Obviously.”
Though there weren’t many surgeries scheduled, what if?
What if another emergency came up and Dr. Lu asked her to take off her clothes? She had to maintain some dignity, right?
Suddenly, she understood Lu Jiahe’s quiet flamboyance keeping face on the outside while indulging in private.
“What style do you want?” Yanzi asked.
“Up to you, just make sure it looks good. Preferably something that’ll make people’s eyes light up at first sight.”
“Got it.” Yanzi nodded with a knowing look.
The next day, Lu Jiahe worked through a full day of surgeries and didn’t leave until past nine in the evening. She stopped by the ward first.
As soon as she entered, she saw Yanzi applying makeup in front of the mirror, while the bed was empty.
“Where’s Ji Yin?”
“Showering inside.” Yanzi was drawing her eyeliner and didn’t dare turn her head.
“Alone?” Lu Jiahe walked over to the bathroom door, uneasy.
“There’s a nurse with her.”
Just then, Ji Yin’s loud voice rang out from inside. “Yanzi, what the hell is this?!”
“What are you yelling for?!” Yanzi, hands full, shouted back.
“Come take it away now!”
Lu Jiahe was still puzzled when the door cracked open slightly, revealing Ji Yin’s eyes.
The moment she saw Lu Jiahe, she froze. “Y-you, why are you here?”
“Just checking on you. Need any help?”
“No.”
“Didn’t you need to pass something? Give it to me.” Lu Jiahe held out her hand.
“Uh, no need. Just get Yanzi over here.”
“I’m busy! Let Dr. Lu take it!” Yanzi yelled from her spot.
“Finish up and get dressed quickly, others are waiting,” the nurse inside urged.
“Then, come a little closer,” Ji Yin whispered.
Lu Jiahe stepped forward, completely blocking the view from anyone else.
Only then did Ji Yin, flushed red, hand something over. Before she could tell her not to look, it was too late.
Lu Jiahe glanced down and immediately recognized it a sexy black lace lingerie bodysuit.
“…”
Lu Jiahe’s eyes did, in fact, light up.
Ji Yin: “…”
The two locked eyes for a moment before Lu Jiahe’s lips curved slightly. “Why aren’t you wearing it?”
Ji Yin scratched the door in embarrassment. “Yanzi brought this. Not my fault.”
“How is this my fault? No good deed goes unpunished.” Yanzi, done with her eyeliner, walked over to complain. “Dr. Lu, can you believe her? She’s the one who told me to buy a nice set of lingerie. I went to so many stores before picking this one. Doesn’t it look good?”
Lu Jiahe: “It does.”
Ji Yin: “…”
Yanzi: “Was I wrong?”
Lu Jiahe: “No.”
“Exactly.” With Dr. Lu backing her up, Yanzi smugly returned to her makeup.
Ji Yin: “…”
The two locked eyes again. Lu Jiahe took another small step forward, her voice low and almost coaxing. “It really isn’t her fault. You suddenly asked for nice lingerie, she probably thought you were going to wear it for someone, right?”
Ji Yin’s face burned. “No way! I just didn’t want to be caught off guard if there was another surgery ”
She abruptly stopped.
Lu Jiahe lifted her gaze, the overhead light reflecting in her eyes. “So it was for me to see?”
Ji Yin:
