Running Away While Pregnant with the Villain’s Child - Chapter 30
“On what grounds? On what grounds am I being demoted?” Li Dan’s noisy voice drifted in from outside the door.
Hearing this male voice made Pei Junzhuo feel a surge of irritability in her heart. She couldn’t quite say why; she simply found the sound of it exceptionally disgusting.
On the other side, Li Dan felt that Pei Junzhuo was an ungrateful creature.
He had clearly died once, yet he was still brought back to life by his own ancestors—this proved that the world belonged to him.
And the result? Pei Junzhuo actually dared to do such a thing to him.
Heh, once I hold the lifeblood of this world in my hands, the first person I kill will be Pei Junzhuo.
Precisely because of this self-confidence, Li Dan had confidently prepared a report himself and handed it to his superior.
He was certain that, as a “Child of Destiny,” he could complete any task brilliantly even if he just scribbled it randomly.
The result came just the next day, when he received a furious scolding from his boss.
“Let him in.” Pei Junzhuo’s anger had reached its peak, causing all expression to vanish from her face.
“Pei Junzhuo, how dare you negate me like this! I am the one and only center of this world.”
As soon as Li Dan entered, he threw the documents onto the floor, displaying an air of lawless idiocy.
“President Pei, I am so sorry, I really tried to stop him.” The finance manager felt she was suffering from the worst luck imaginable. She had only just returned to tell Li Dan about what had happened moments ago.
Before she could even say the bellyful of words she had prepared, Li Dan suddenly went mad.
“Who do you think you are, Pei Junzhuo? What company wouldn’t I, Li Dan, be able to go to? Do you think I care about your Pei family?”
“Pei Junzhuo, don’t think you can control others just because you have a bit of stinking money. I, Li Dan, will be the one who laughs last!”
Li Dan was clearly blinded by rage now; every word he spoke sounded like something uttered by someone without a brain.
“The Pei family is a small temple; it cannot accommodate a great Buddha like you,” Pei Junzhuo said. As soon as she finished, the corners of Li Dan’s mouth curled up in triumph.
“Secretary Chen, go and call the Human Resources manager to come here for a moment.” Pei Junzhuo raised her hand, her face devoid of any emotion.
Only those close to her could see that she was so angry that the veins in her neck were bulging.
Hearing Pei Junzhuo call for the HR manager, Li Dan only thought she was scared and was looking for a mediator.
“Hmph, at least you’re sensible.” Li Dan’s lewd eyes scanned all the women present.
When Secretary Chen returned, she caught that look in his eyes.
Oh boy, looks like someone is going to die a miserable death today. With a slight movement, she stepped in to block Li Dan’s line of sight for Pei Junzhuo.
Pei Junzhuo walked to her desk and sat in her black ergonomic chair.
“It seems the Pei family cannot keep such a commercial genius. HR, please settle everything clearly with Mr. Li, and let this Mr. Li leave the Pei family satisfied.”
On the surface, Pei Junzhuo’s words sounded detached and polite, but in reality, cold sweat began to pour down the faces of the HR and finance managers.
President Pei rarely used the phrase “settle everything clearly.” Once she used it, that person would definitely meet a grim end.
“Settling clearly” meant pulling up surveillance footage and every single work document from Li Dan’s past. Any dereliction of duty on his part would be converted into a corresponding financial loss for the company.
If he could mess up a simple report to that extent, was it possible he hadn’t made any other mistakes in his daily work?
Impossible. Absolutely impossible.
“You’re actually firing me?” Li Dan became even more enraged, his mouth beginning to spew filthy insults and profanity.
Looking at such an unrefined and brainless person, Pei Junzhuo’s icy gaze swept across the two managers in front of her.
The HR manager and the finance manager didn’t dare look up. For someone of this caliber to pass the interviews for both HR and Finance…
To put it bluntly, the two of them were already frantically trying to think of excuses.
However, even after scouring their minds, they couldn’t find a single reason.
The HR manager flipped through Li Dan’s educational background in his head. When he remembered the details, he felt as if he had suffered a stroke at the time.
Otherwise, why on earth would he have allowed Li Dan—someone who hadn’t even finished university due to failing grades—into the company?
Unless he had been possessed by a ghost, he truly couldn’t think of any other explanation.
Beside him, the finance manager was also trying to think if Li Dan had any extraordinary talents.
After a similar search, the finance manager wore the same expression as the HR manager.
“Despair” was, for the first time, vividly personified on the faces of two human beings.
Li Dan was thrown directly out of the company’s main entrance by the professional security guards.
Clearly, Pei Junzhuo no longer even had the heart to argue with this fool.
Just as Li Dan stepped out of the Pei family’s company, still muttering curses, he bumped into Tan Nuannuan, who was bringing him lunch.
“Brother Li Dan, what’s wrong?” Tan Nuannuan held a lunchbox, her face wearing its usual obedient smile.
Seeing one of his “harem” members, Li Dan’s mood improved slightly.
But then he remembered that Tan Nuannuan had later left with Luo Xingran and the others, and his mood became irritable again.
“What are you doing here?” The way Li Dan ignored the lunchbox in Tan Nuannuan’s hand made him look practically blind.
If he were cast as a blind man in a play, he’d probably win an award for Best Actor.
Hearing Li Dan’s question, Tan Nuannuan’s heart—usually well-concealed—suddenly surged with waves of emotion.
What is going on? Why do I suddenly want to slap him?
“I’m here to bring you lunch, Brother Li Dan, of course.” Tan Nuannuan obediently lifted the lunchbox, her face full of gentleness and respect.
Seeing Tan Nuannuan’s submissive act, Li Dan’s mood finally brightened.
“I appreciate the thought. You don’t need to bring it anymore; I’ve left this company.” Naturally, Li Dan wouldn’t mention the embarrassing details of his dismissal; he changed the narrative to make himself sound less pathetic.
Changing jobs? Tan Nuannuan felt even more annoyed. The Pei family’s company was one of the top firms in the industry and a Fortune 500 company.
In terms of benefits and treatment, it was top-tier.
The only reason she hadn’t dumped this idiot Li Dan yet was that he still had a respectable job.
Otherwise, she would have told Li Dan to get lost a long time ago.
What “didn’t want to work there anymore”— Tan Nuannuan knew in her heart that Li Dan had most likely been fired.
The thought made her even more frustrated.
“Then this company must not be worthy of you, Brother Li Dan. I’m going to get justice for you.”
When Tan Nuannuan said this, her eyes were full of trust for Li Dan. Of course, it was an expression she had painstakingly faked.
“Whatever, go if you want.” Li Dan had originally wanted to dismiss her, but then he remembered that Tan Nuannuan had been quite close to Pei Junzhuo and Luo Xingran before.
So, if she really could get Pei Junzhuo to give him a break, that would work too.
“I will definitely have a good talk with them.” Tan Nuannuan smiled warmly, her humble demeanor satisfying Li Dan’s pathetic sense of chauvinism.
“Mm, I’m going back first. If anything happens, just call me.” Li Dan waved his hand dismissively and walked toward his residence.
Tan Nuannuan’s original plan was to scout around the area to find out exactly why Li Dan had been kicked out.
However, the security and control at the Pei family’s company were far too strict.
Especially since she was someone known to be associated with Li Dan, no one from the Pei Group dared to approach her.
She only managed to catch snippets of conversation as people brushed past her in the crowd.
“That guy Li Dan is a real jinx.”
“Tell me about it. Because of him, every department is now fearfully conducting internal audits.”
“The HR manager even volunteered to have his salary docked for three months.”
“That’s nothing; the finance manager asked for six months.”
“President Pei didn’t approve it, though.”
“Does that mean President Pei let them off the hook?”
“President Pei said directly that she won’t punish them this time, but next time they’ll be out. The HR and finance managers’ faces were as black as ink when they came out.”
“Can’t be helped. Li Dan is just useless at everything he does.”
Following the disdainful remarks of the crowd, Tan Nuannuan began to question whether the stepping stone she had chosen was a bit too much of a waste.
She walked somewhat absentmindedly and didn’t even notice when she bumped into someone.
“Tan Nuannuan, what are you doing! Are you trying to kill me so you can have Brother Li Dan all to yourself?”
A familiar voice rang out. Tan Nuannuan looked up to see Shen Yao. She was Li Dan’s admirer and supposedly his childhood sweetheart.
A few days ago, she had even gone on a hunger strike at home just to marry Li Dan.
I should despise her, Tan Nuannuan knew she had always considered Shen Yao a fool.
Clearly having a higher starting point than herself, yet stubbornly acting like a “love-brain.”
But… what was with the tears on her own face?
When Shen Yao saw the usually “fake-gentle” Tan Nuannuan crying in front of her, she panicked.
“What’s wrong? Don’t cry! Fine, the worst that happens is I’ll let you have Li Dan.”
Shen Yao was stunned; seeing Tan Nuannuan cry made her own heart feel uncomfortable.
She had actually given Li Dan up. Shen Yao felt she had spoken out of turn the moment the words left her mouth.
Yet, she didn’t feel much regret either. It was strange, truly strange. Oh well, if Tan Nuannuan wants him, she can have him, as long as she stops crying.
Seeing the large tears rolling down Tan Nuannuan’s face, Shen Yao felt her head beginning to ache more and more.
She simply gave up. She, Shen Yao, could have any man she wanted. She would treat Li Dan as a piece of charity for Tan Nuannuan, provided it stopped the waterworks.
Since she was already acting the part and Li Dan was unreliable anyway, Tan Nuannuan felt she could switch to someone else to rely on.
For example, Shen Yao. The tears on Tan Nuannuan’s face fell even faster as she began to recount all the bad things Li Dan had done over the years.
From petty little things to instances of cheating and betrayal.
As she spoke, Tan Nuannuan threw herself into Shen Yao’s arms, looking fragile and helpless.
“Sister Shen, what am I supposed to do?”
Listening to Tan Nuannuan’s weak and helpless words, Shen Yao felt she absolutely had to help today.
At this moment, Shen Yao didn’t realize that she was actually someone who fell for the “Green Tea” act.
“He actually did so many terrible things? And here I thought he really liked me.” Shen Yao’s anger flared up, and Tan Nuannuan’s sense of pleasure rose as well.
The outcome was perfectly in line with her expectations; it was just that this particular part of the process felt somewhat familiar to Tan Nuannuan.
