Running Away While Pregnant with the Villain’s Child - Chapter 28
“What are you two talking about?” Luo Xingran held a few blue roses in her hand, her face wearing her usual gentle expression.
Pei Junzhuo briefly recounted the conversation she had just had with Luo Xingxing.
“Mm.” A smile full of love rose to Luo Xingran’s face as she looked at Luo Xingxing and nodded.
“Pei Junzhuo respects me very much; that is the most basic and important thing for lovers,” Luo Xingran said, her tone becoming very serious.
“As for whether I am truly that kind of person, Xingxing, you can see for yourself. What others say belongs to others; if you want to know a person, you should look through your own heart.”
“Whatever others say is just their words. You should listen to yourself more.” Luo Xingran stroked Luo Xingxing’s head.
The rest of the day was ordinary, yet Luo Xingxing fell into deep thought because of Luo Xingran’s words.
To look with the heart?
If she looked with her heart and didn’t listen to the evaluations given by the Heavenly Way…
Could Li Dan even be considered a human being?
He used food in exchange for her doing things for him, but he seemed to have never respected her.
Luo Xingxing felt a throbbing pain in her head.
“If I didn’t respect you…” Pei Junzhuo hadn’t finished her sentence before she received a glare from Luo Xingran.
“Then would you still be able to stay here? Or rather, could the two of us still be friends?” Luo Xingran stuffed the roses into Pei Junzhuo’s hands.
“Hold them here for a moment. I’ll clip the thorns in a bit.” Luo Xingran turned to fetch the specialized shears.
“I haven’t finished my sentence yet. I was going to say—that situation will never happen.” Pei Junzhuo smiled dotingly, and Luo Xingran gave her a playful, reproachful look.
“As long as you know. It’s getting a bit late today; have you bought the tickets to Suzhou for tomorrow?” Luo Xingran took the flower stems and began pruning the bouquet bit by bit.
“I bought them. I’ll come to pick you up tomorrow. Don’t oversleep.” Pei Junzhuo’s hands were now free, and she reached out her index finger to lightly scratch Luo Xingran’s nose.
Feeling itchy, Luo Xingran couldn’t help but lightly bump into Pei Junzhuo with her body.
“You’re the little lazy pig who can’t get out of bed! Hmph!” Luo Xingran wrinkled her dainty nose, clearly unconvinced.
Spending the last bit of their private time talking and laughing, Pei Junzhuo waved goodbye to Luo Xingran.
It wasn’t until she walked out of the Luo family’s main gate that Pei Junzhuo couldn’t help but mock herself.
Respect was something she could strive to achieve now, but the fear born of love had been growing more and more over these past few days.
The more she loved Luo Xingran, the more Pei Junzhuo realized how terrifying her fear had become.
It was like a dark sea; every day, as the tide rose and fell, it would occasionally submerge her entirely.
Too many times—Pei Junzhuo had wondered too many times what she would do if Luo Xingran disappeared again.
What if next time it was for thirty years?
What if, after she disappeared, she found someone she liked more in another world?
What if she returned and hated her?
Messy, chaotic fears had been binding her soul these past few days. The more you love someone, the more you cannot accept the possibility of losing them.
Even with Luo Xingran standing right in front of her now, the fear in Pei Junzhuo’s heart continued to grow wildly.
What she said to Luo Xingxing today—wasn’t she also saying it to herself?
The foundation of loving someone is respect; Pei Junzhuo knew this better than anyone.
No matter what, she could not do something wrong out of love. That would only push her and Luo Xingran further apart.
Whether it was Luo Xingran’s disappearance or her hatred toward her—Pei Junzhuo wanted neither of those possibilities.
But no matter how hard she tried, she was ultimately a mortal. With seven emotions and six desires, Pei Junzhuo’s heart was like a tangled mess that could not be straightened out.
Looking at the heavy night scenery around her, Pei Junzhuo gave a bitter laugh and walked toward her own home.
The moon reached the middle of the sky, and the Luo house was bathed in moonlight.
While others slept relatively well, Luo Xingxing fell directly into a nightmare.
Reasonably speaking, she wasn’t human and shouldn’t be able to dream. Usually, she didn’t sleep at all, spending her nights playing games or watching TV dramas.
“What are you doing! Why aren’t you following the previous plan!”
Luo Xingxing walked through a thick mist and suddenly heard a man’s voice. In her shock, she immediately began searching for the source of the sound.
This voice sounded very much like the previous Heavenly Way.
“Who are you?” Luo Xingxing found it strange. Their batch of “Little Heavenly Ways” had never seen the true face of the Heavenly Way.
Logically, they should naturally feel a sense of reverence and attachment toward the Heavenly Way.
However, when she heard this voice, her emotions were very contradictory. The feeling of reverence and attachment wasn’t absent, but it was matched by a significant amount of loathing and hatred.
By all rights, they were all children of the Heavenly Way and shouldn’t feel this way.
Strangely enough, this feeling of dislike and hatred was the same as the feeling she had toward Li Dan.
“Heh, I didn’t expect it—you actually sensed it.” A man appeared out of thin air in front of Luo Xingxing.
At the first sight of him, Luo Xingxing’s sixth sense told her that this person shouldn’t be the Heavenly Way.
And as a Little Heavenly Way, her sixth sense was essentially a fact.
“Tsk, you and your mother really are a bit alike.”
“Oh, to be precise, she is the true Heavenly Way.” The man walked toward Luo Xingxing with a cruel grin.
Hearing this, Luo Xingxing felt a chill run through her entire body. She retreated desperately, trying not to be controlled by this terrifying thing.
Immediately, she implanted a thought into Luo Xingran’s mind:
You must believe in Pei Junzhuo.
She could roughly guess that the reason she had previously chosen Li Dan as the Son of Heaven’s Mandate was likely because of this man.
Subconsciously, she felt that Luo Xingran was the key to Li Dan becoming the Son of Heaven’s Mandate in this world.
After implanting the belief in Luo Xingran, Luo Xingxing implanted another thought into Pei Junzhuo while she was fleeing:
You must find Luo Xingran.
She didn’t know what this terrible person would do, but Luo Xingxing instinctively felt that perhaps the true key lay with Luo Xingran and Pei Junzhuo.
“You can’t escape.” The man’s low voice came from behind Luo Xingxing.
Luo Xingxing was startled, tripped, and was grabbed by the hair and hoisted up by the man.
“Run, go ahead and run again.” The man grinned as he choked Luo Xingxing’s neck. Watching her struggle, the smile on his face grew wider.
“You won’t succeed; you will never succeed.” Luo Xingxing’s small face was contorted with pain, yet she remained stubbornly defiant.
“Stop struggling. This world will eventually return to its set orbit. And you will become a part of me.”
“The position of the Heavenly Way will always be mine.” The man grinned as he extracted energy from Luo Xingxing.
Feeling the energy being drained from her bit by bit, Luo Xingxing used the last of her strength to bite the man hard.
“Bitch!” The man’s palm landed on Luo Xingxing’s small face.
Even so, Luo Xingxing did not yield.
She glared at the man, her eyes full of refusal to lose.
Seeing Luo Xingxing like this, the man instinctively felt something was wrong. Among all the Heavenly Way fragments whose power he had plundered, none had ever possessed such an expression.
Feeling uneasy, the man’s actions became even more vicious.
“It’s useless! Accept your fate!”
In the final second before her consciousness vanished, Luo Xingxing heard the man’s words. She no longer had the strength to speak her thoughts aloud.
However, in her heart, she still said: Keep dreaming. The future you want will never come true.
After sensing the power, the man immediately began to change everything. He wanted to erase all the mistakes of this period; he wanted to set everything right.
But when he actually started doing it, he was shocked to find that Li Dan—the core figure—was actually dead.
He died in an alleyway by an underground casino.
Death is a node. Once someone dies, things become very troublesome.
“There must still be a chance, there must be a chance! As long as… as long as I make Luo Xingran and Pei Junzhuo turn against each other, I can still slot someone else in!”
“It will definitely work, it will definitely work!”
The man’s manic voice would make anyone who heard it feel a chill in their heart.
“I have divided the Heavenly Way into these little things over and over again. Since I could succeed for so many years, there’s no reason I won’t succeed this time!”
“It makes no sense, it makes no sense. This time I can definitely separate these two as well. As long as they hate each other forever, this world is still mine!”
“Always mine!”
“Change their memories, change their memories!”
“In this world, it’s impossible for anyone to violate their own nature, betray their instincts, and refute their own memories just to love another person.”
“As long as I alter enough, they will never forgive each other, and they will never love each other!”
“This world is still mine! Always mine!”
The man grinned, the smile on his face becoming more and more terrifying.
The midnight moonlight shone brighter in the dark night.
In the dark, something seemed to be shifting.
On the notebook on Luo Xingran’s desk, several lines of text were written:
What can I hold you with? I offer you lean streets, desperate sunsets, the moon of the jagged suburbs. I offer you the bitterness of a man who has looked long and patiently at the lonely moon. I offer you the loyalty of a man who has never had a faith.
These were verses by Borges, lying quietly on the white paper, reflecting the moonlight.
“So, why did I write these?” Luo Xingran got out of bed. She looked at the notebook on the desk, her eyes filled with strangeness.
The handwriting was hers, no doubt, but when had she written this?
Luo Xingran’s eyes were full of confusion. She took a step forward.
Thump. Luo Xingran touched her pregnant belly; fortunately, it didn’t hurt much.
Wait—when did she get pregnant?
She remembered now. It was after she was forced by Pei Junzhuo that she conceived this child.
But this kind of thing was too bizarre. How could two women have a child?
Not only would Pei Junzhuo not believe her, but she would likely intensify her efforts to destroy her parents’ company.
Thinking of this, Luo Xingran felt a surge of regret—why on earth did she ever provoke this villain?
