Rose Lock - Chapter 66
“What?” Gong Yan couldn’t believe those words came from the mouth of the woman who was usually spoiled and stubborn, making her momentarily wonder if she’d misheard.
Hua Manyi, however, didn’t care. She pounced on the person onto the bed, her movements of undressing being skilled yet slightly clumsy. Gong Yan grabbed her hand, not letting her move.
“You really don’t like me…” Hua Manyi struggled a few times, a muffled whimper escaping her throat, a wave of grievance from being rejected rising in her heart.
Gong Yan sighed, released her restraint, and stroked her waistline, letting her have her way.
Outside the window, the moonlight deepened. A few sparrows perched on the willow branches, chirping softly.
The temperature in the room was no longer so cool. The dim yellow light illuminated skin as white as snow-white porcelain, casting round and upturned curved shadows on the finely crafted carpet.
Thud. Hua Manyi glanced at the carpet beside her elbow, stunned. A dull ache came from her backside. “Gong Ma… I, I fell off?”
She weakly supported herself on the carpet, looking up at the bed in a daze. The woman on the bed had both her long, slender legs down, standing on the carpet in front of her. She looked down at Hua Manyi, her red lips subtly curving into a smile.
“Get up, the floor is cold.” Gong Yan extended her hand to her.
Hua Manyi’s face broke into a happy smile. She took her hand, and a pull brought her up from the floor, but unexpectedly, a flip found her pressed down on the bed, unable to move.
“Gong Ma, didn’t we agree—” The rest of her words were completely swallowed.
Hua Manyi began to feel wronged again. What kind of dominating position was this? She wanted to push the person away, but she lacked the will and strength. Slowly, she felt that maybe it wasn’t bad after all. This woman could, as always, give her pleasure and comfort.
She slowly changed from resistance to ‘playing hard to get’ and finally clung to Gong Yan like a ‘clingy cat.’
“Gong Ma, am I very reckless?” Hua Manyi whispered by her ear, humming sounds that would make one blush.
“No.” Gong Yan answered her seriously, kissing her beautifully contoured chin. “You are just cuter than others.”
Hua Manyi felt completely satisfied with this answer, calling out, “Gong Ma…” over and over again.
Outside the door, Kou Qian’er stood holding a basin of hot water and a towel, unable to recover her senses for a long time. Her clear, bright eyes darkened with a layer of disappointment as the loving calls from inside reached her ears one after another.
Sister Manyi… Gong Ma…
Images from the afternoon, where she and Sister Manyi slept in the same bed, flickered in her mind like a film reel. The joy of sharing a bed had not even been thoroughly savored before she went to sleep tonight, and in the blink of an eye, it was all shattered.
Over here, the servants were busy cleaning the villa up and down. Gong Shulan saw Gong Yan return from outside with a good complexion, holding a small square box in her hand.
She curiously glanced over and saw the ring inside. “A ring for whom?”
Gong Yan: “Hua Manyi.”
Gong Shulan raised an eyebrow. “As expected.”
Gong Yan more or less guessed what was on her mind. Although Gong Yan didn’t show much kindness to others, she often made exceptions for Hua Manyi.
“Shulan, you’ll have to call her sister-in-law from now on.” Gong Yan packed the box away. It had been sent back to be resized before because Hua Manyi’s fingers were too slender, and the ring wouldn’t stay on, so she found a way to have someone re-polish it.
“How old is she?” Gong Shulan choked slightly.
“Eighteen.” Gong Yan was concise. “Ten years younger than you.”
“…”
Gong Shulan’s expression soured at the thought of that. “Did Father agree? Are you in such a hurry? Why not wait a few more years?”
Gong Yan turned back, for the first time doubting her own sister’s intelligence: “Even if you wait ten years, she’ll still be ten years younger than you.”
Gong Shulan: “…”
The morning sunlight lazily spread across Haicheng, the town. The staff at Fenghai gradually woke up and started getting busy.
Hua Manyi recalled what happened yesterday at Lu Nian, her expression grave as she placed a phone call.
Gong Shulan received the call and her face instantly changed when she heard Hua Manyi’s report. “You mean Huo Suqiu appeared at Lu Nian’s house?”
Hua Manyi tried hard to recall a document she had accidentally flipped through at Lu Nian’s house, and slowly said, “Their method of contact seemed to be a secret report. I couldn’t understand the Morse code on it.”
“I see.” Gong Shulan curved her lips into a slight smile, remembering the agreement between them. Her gaze flickered over to Gong Yan sitting in the living room of the villa. It really took no effort at all; Heaven is helping me, she thought. “Don’t worry. You will receive a ring from my sister in the next few days. An engagement ring.”
Gong Shulan specifically emphasized the last four words. On the other end of the phone, Hua Manyi was completely stunned.
“An engagement ring?”
