- Roommate Won't Spoil His Pretty Boyfriend? Fine, I'll Do It
- Chapter 5 - Congenital Heart Disease
Bai Shijin turned his head to find a very pretty girl standing right in front of him. Her clothing and makeup looked slightly mature, making her age difficult to guess.
He vaguely remembered that she was one of the girls who had been sitting next to him earlier.
In a gentle tone, Bai Shijin asked, “Is that so? Can you tell me where he is?”
“That guy brought a gay guy to fool us girls. By rights, I shouldn’t help him, but how about this: call me sister, and I will take you to him.” The girl flashed her white teeth and tilted her head to look at him.
“”
“I…”
“What, you are not willing?” Her smile instantly vanished, and she turned to walk away. “Never mind then.”
Bai Shijin hurried to block her path, looking extremely embarrassed as he said, “Sister, sister.”
The girl teased him, “Say it together.”
Gritting his teeth, Bai Shijin stiffly and awkwardly blurted out, “Sister, take me to find Ye Qinfan.”
Hearing how awkward he sounded, the girl burst into a chuckle. “Come with me.”
Suppressing the irritation rising in his chest, Bai Shijin obediently followed behind the girl.
After twisting and turning through the corridors for a bit, the two arrived in front of an elevator.
Only the two of them were inside the elevator car when the girl asked, “Why are you so insistent on finding Ye Qinfan? What relation is he to you?”
Bai Shijin replied flatly, “My rival in love.”
“”
The girl was stunned for a second before laughing. “With a rival like you, your chances of winning are way too high.”
“?”
Before Bai Shijin could understand what she meant, the elevator doors opened.
It turned out to be a hotel.
Bai Shijin instinctively asked, “What are we doing at a hotel?”
“Aren’t you looking for Ye Qinfan?” The girl crossed her arms, the sound of her high heels clicking against the floor echoing down the corridor. “He helped us find handsome guys to pass the time, and we helped him find quality money boys. Right now, he is probably having a great time. Look, room 211, that one over there.”
“”
Bai Shijin froze in place, utterly unable to believe what he was hearing.
“He doesn’t have a boyfriend?”
“Ah? Oh, he seems to have one. I heard they have been dating for quite a while, but field flowers are never as fragrant as wild ones. Men are all the same.”
The more Bai Shijin listened, the faster and heavier his breathing became. He walked up to the door of room 211 and kicked it three times in succession. “Ye Qinfan, get out here!”
Startled, the girl hurriedly tried to pull him back. “What are you doing? Are you trying to start a fight?”
Before her voice had even faded, Ye Qinfan opened the door with a guy on each arm.
Seeing Bai Shijin, he looked stunned. “Shijin, why are you here? Weren’t you drinking with the girls?”
Bai Shijin swept his gaze over the two delicate and dainty boys clinging to Ye Qinfan, who were completely incomparable to Mu Nian.
Forcefully suppressing the blazing anger inside him, he began to settle accounts with Ye Qinfan one by one. “When did I ever agree to drink with them? Was I supposed to keep them company in exchange for a night of pleasure for you?”
Pushing the two clueless boys back into the room, Ye Qinfan explained, “Didn’t you want to hang out with the girls? I just played matchmaker so we could all have a good time.”
“Fine,” Bai Shijin said, his voice sinking as a wave of emotion colored his tone. “I won’t argue about right and wrong with you over that for now. Explain to me what is going on with the two people inside this room. Ye Qinfan, you are a man with a boyfriend! How can you look Mu Nian in the eye after doing this?”
“No,” Ye Qinfan said with a bewildered expression. “Bai Shijin, what kind of nerve are you striking? What does whether I treat Mu Nian well or not have to do with you? Mu Nian is just a pretty vase, good to look at but useless. He has congenital heart disease, so I don’t even dare touch him. What is wrong with coming out to let off some steam?”
“”
Bai Shijin’s mind felt as though it had been eroded by something filthy, his ears ringing with a dull roar.
The person he considered untouchable was being slandered like this by Ye Qinfan.
Veins bulged on the back of Bai Shijin’s hands as he threw a punch straight forward.
“Ah!”
The girl beside them covered her mouth and screamed, retreating backward in fright.
“Damn you, Bai Shijin, have you lost your mind?!”
With eyes burning red and filled with bloodshot veins, Bai Shijin rained punches down onto Ye Qinfan’s face, completely devoid of reason and holding back none of his strength.
With his collar gripped tightly, Ye Qinfan had no room to fight back. As his head jerked to the side, one of his teeth was knocked out, spitting onto the floor along with blood-tinged saliva.
Bai Shijin’s sleeves were stained with bright red blood. With a cold expression and bruised knuckles, he continued to throw punches.
“Ah, call the police.” Feeling as though he was being beaten to death, Ye Qinfan looked pleadingly at the girl, forcing the words out through his teeth. “Call the police.”
In the interrogation room, Bai Shijin sat expressionlessly, wiping the blood stains off his sleeve while his knuckles were covered in adhesive bandages.
Before the interviewing police officer could speak, a knock sounded at the door. Another officer entered and said, “The person at the hospital said it was just a dispute between classmates and requested to settle it privately.”
The police brought Bai Shijin to the hospital, confirmed that Ye Qinfan did not wish to press charges, gave them both a stern lecture, had them sign the paperwork, and let them leave.
Standing outside the hospital ward, Bai Shijin could not figure out what game Ye Qinfan was playing.
Seeing that he refused to come in, Ye Qinfan called out from inside, “Shijin, I know you are out there. Come in, let’s talk.”
After hesitating for a moment, Bai Shijin pushed the door open and walked in.
The injuries on Ye Qinfan’s face were wrapped in gauze, and the right side of his face was swollen into a massive lump.
Bai Shijin pulled out a chair, sat down, and said, “I will cover the medical expenses.”
“No need, no need.” Ye Qinfan had lost all the arrogance he had before the beating, speaking in a weak tone. “Before you even came to the hospital, I figured things out. I was at fault here too. It was true that I didn’t tell you the whole story, which made you feel like you were being treated like an escort. Beating me up to vent your anger is fine.”
Bai Shijin was not about to fall for any attempts to downplay the situation. Listening offhandedly, he said, “You know very well I didn’t hit you because of that. If you want to talk to me, talk about something useful.”
“”
Ye Qinfan let out a soft breath. “Then tell me, what do you want?”
Casually raising his eyelids, Bai Shijin said, “I will tell Mu Nian every single thing I saw tonight, word for word.”
“No!” Ye Qinfan’s eyes widened in sudden panic, the IV tubes shaking wildly with his panicked movements. “Shijin, I’m begging you, you cannot say anything!”
Bai Shijin found it laughable. “You dared to do it, but you don’t dare let me talk about it?”
Ye Qinfan sophistically argued, “I have no emotional attachment to them. It’s just a dewdrop romance, something you sleep with today and forget tomorrow. Even if we bump into each other on the street later, we won’t recognize one another. Why on earth do you have to tell Niannian?”
“”
Bai Shijin frowned deeply. “Ye Qinfan! Do you know that you cheated? Do you have any shame left to say something like that?”
“Cheated? What cheating?” Ye Qinfan sneered. “Mu Nian and I can’t even get married anyway, so what kind of cheating is that? Otherwise, go ahead and call the police, sue me, and see how the judge rules.”
“Bai Shijin, if I hadn’t decided not to press charges, the injuries you inflicted on me would be enough for you to sit in a detention center for a whole week. You should be the one begging me right now. What gives you the right to act so high and mighty?”
Bai Shijin let out a cold huff, his sharp gaze sweeping across like a blade, causing Ye Qinfan’s body to tremble.
“Do you think I’m scared of going to jail?” He casually tossed the phone from his pocket onto the hospital bed. “Go ahead, call the police right now and tell them you changed your mind and want to press charges. I will sit right here and go nowhere.”
Bai Shijin’s eyes were like a flickering candle on the verge of extinguishing, sending a chill down anyone’s spine, and his voice sounded like the Grim Reaper demanding a life: “The day I walk out of that jail is the day Mu Nian learns the truth.”
Seeing that Bai Shijin was completely unfazed, Ye Qinfan began rambling incoherently again. “Shijin, we’ve known each other for two years, do you really have to be so ruthless? If Mu Nian finds out, he will break up with me!”
“You could sneak behind his back to do that kind of thing, yet you are afraid of breaking up? Once you two split up, you can go find whoever you want. You could even bring them back to the dorm to sleep with them and I wouldn’t bat an eye.” Not wanting to converse with him any longer, Bai Shijin turned around to leave.
“Wait!”
Ye Qinfan yelled out, “Bai Shijin, Mu Nian has a heart condition.”
“…”
Bai Shijin’s toes stopped at the threshold, recalling what Ye Qinfan had said before the beating.
At the time, he had been so starved of oxygen from anger that he hadn’t heard it clearly, but now that it was brought up again, his heartbeat skipped a beat.
“It’s congenital, he can’t take any emotional shocks. Mu Nian loves me a lot. If he finds out that I did something like this, he might have a relapse.” Ye Qinfan grabbed Bai Shijin’s sleeve, pleading, “If he has an attack, it brings him one step closer to death. Don’t tell him, Shijin, please don’t.”
In a fit of fury that surged straight to his head, Bai Shijin violently shook off Ye Qinfan’s hand and reached out to grab him by the throat.
