- Roommate Won't Spoil His Pretty Boyfriend? Fine, I'll Do It
- Chapter 10 - Meow, Meow, Meow
Early in the morning, Mu Nian was woken up by a phone call from Su Yi. Groggy and half-asleep, he pressed the answer button and murmured a hello.
Su Yi sounded anxious. “Brother Mu, why haven’t you come to work yet? Did something happen?”
Mu Nian rubbed his eyes and checked the time. It was already nine o’clock.
Because he had gone to bed late last night, he had even forgotten to set his alarm.
He replied, “I’m fine, just woke up late. I’ll be right there.”
After hanging up, Mu Nian rushed to get out of bed and wash up. Normally, he was used to walking out of his room shirtless, but today he touched the doorknob and suddenly remembered there was someone else in the apartment. He turned back and put on a shirt.
However, he was overthinking it. Bai Shijin had already left.
The place had clearly been tidied up. Mu Nian felt a warm wave of appreciation for what a good kid Bai Shijin was. Walking into the kitchen to find something to eat in the fridge, he noticed a sticky note pasted on the door.
The handwriting on the note was neat and handsome, just like the person himself.
“Thanks for the hospitality. Used the kitchen to make some breakfast. Remember to reheat it before eating. See you around. Bai Shijin.”
Mu Nian chuckled. After peeling off the sticky note, he wasn’t sure what to do with it. Throwing it away felt like a waste, so he simply stuck it back onto the refrigerator.
While heating up the food, he had some free time and took a look around the guest room where Bai Shijin had slept last night.
The bed was clean and tidy, and the quilt was folded neatly without a single crease.
Mu Nian shook his head and sighed. To his surprise, he found himself thinking that if Ye Qinfan were half as diligent and considerate as Bai Shijin, how could he possibly have refused to move in together?
Ye Qinfan couldn’t even take care of himself. If he moved in, it would just feel like taking care of another ancestor.
Fortunately, he hadn’t let his heart soften back then.
The porridge Bai Shijin had cooked was neither too thick nor too thin, tasting sweet and savory, warming Mu Nian’s stomach. He usually ate very little for breakfast, but today he broke all precedent and drank two bowls, sipping it slowly and savoring every bite.
When he arrived at the office, it was already ten-thirty. His team members were panicking, convinced they were going to breach contract this time.
Mu Nian sent out an internal email calling for a meeting to steady everyone’s nerves, and afterward brought Su Yi into his office.
“Alright, Miss Su, stop looking so gloomy. I’ve got an idea.”
Su Yi raised her eyelids skeptically. “What idea? I contacted all our regular collaborating models this morning, and every single one of them turned us down. President Qin has really lost his mind. We’re in the same company after all, what good does suppressing you do him?”
Mu Nian said, “My boyfriend said he wanted to be a model for me. That actually gave me an idea. Why must we insist on professional models when we can completely cultivate amateur ones?”
“Oh yeah!” Su Yi was instantly enlightened, her two little dimples showing as she grinned. “I’ve been wanting to complain anyway. The posture of those so-called professional models isn’t even as good as yours, Brother Mu. Hehe, it really is great to have a young and handsome boyfriend!”
“Stop joking around. I don’t plan to use him directly; he walks around all sloppy anyway, so whether he can pull it off on the runway is another story. I only agreed to let him audition.” Mu Nian thought for a moment. “Go notify the props team to set up a small runway in the photo studio, and hurry up and recruit people for auditions.”
“You got it!”
Su Yi transformed back into an energetic, high-efficiency young woman, swinging her ponytail as she ran out.
After the art department sent the finished recruitment advertisement to Mu Nian, Mu Nian casually posted it to his Moments: Hiring Models As Pictured.
Bai Shijin had been sitting in the library for over an hour before he finally received a reply to the message he sent Mu Nian that morning asking, [Are you awake?]
This Year Is Past: [I’m awake, but I woke up way too late and overslept.]
It was followed by a crying sticker.
Bai Shijin couldn’t help curving his lips, wanting to send a cute sticker back to Mu Nian as well. He tapped open the sticker menu, but it was completely empty.
So he simply stole Mu Nian’s sticker.
After careful selection, he picked a matching hahaha sticker and sent it over.
Bai Shijin waited in the chat interface for a long time without getting a response. Twirling the corner of his lip, he took a screenshot of the chat history, blurred out the avatar’s remarks, and posted it to the campus forum as a cry for help:
Help: Chatting with the person I like always leaves me on read.
He originally just wanted to kill some time, but someone actually responded. A little red notification dot popped up in his message box. Bai Shijin tapped it open, and the vibe was like this:
L1: Bro, you’re chatting like this and haven’t been blocked yet? I salute you.
L2: The other person must be so speechless. Haha, just guessing, don’t hate me.
L3: Chatting like this won’t get you a partner, buddy.
Bai Shijin frowned at these three replies. Seeking genuine advice, he replied to L3: “Then how should I chat?”
L3 must have been quite free, quickly sending him a private message.
L3: First of all, your chatting style is way too stiff. It makes people think you’re a wooden block with zero romance. You send some brain-dead sticker, how is the other person supposed to reply to that? I’m speechless.
Bai Shijin: Please help.
L3: Look, I can tell you’re a good seedling. One hundred yuan, and I guarantee you’ll win them over in three days.
Bai Shijin was tempted on the spot: Okay.
L3: [Sends Alipay QR code]
Bai Shijin transferred a hundred yuan over.
L3: OK bro, received. First, ask her if she has a lighter.
Bai Shijin curved his eyebrows. Even though he didn’t understand why, he followed the instruction.
Sure enough, Mu Nian replied quite quickly this time:
This Year Is Past: [Huh? No, I don’t.]
Bai Shijin: He said no.
L3: Her replying to you is already a good start. Just send this next: Then how come you lit up my heart?
Bai Shijin looked confused and replied: Is it really okay to send something like that? Won’t he figure out that I like him?
L3: You have to let her know you like her, otherwise what’s the point of you messaging her?
Bai Shijin: I just wanted to get him to pay attention to me and build some presence.
L3: Tsk, bro, you’re way too indecisive. Just tell me whether you’re going to send it or not. If you don’t send it, I can’t move to the next step.
Bai Shijin: But he has a boyfriend. Can I still send something like this?
L3: Wait, you’re unbeatable, bro.
Not understanding what that meant, Bai Shijin sent a question mark back.
However, a red exclamation mark appeared, as L3 had blocked him.
Bai Shijin certainly wasn’t going to let that hundred yuan go to waste, so he still ended up sending the lines taught by Brother L3 to Mu Nian.
This Year Is Past: [What is this?]
This Year Is Past: [Breakup sequela?]
This Year Is Past: [What kind of shock did you experience? Do you need legal aid?]
Looking at the three consecutive messages Mu Nian sent, Bai Shijin’s heart blossomed with joy.
As expected of something you pay for, it really works! It actually managed to get Mu Nian to send him this many messages.
Bai Shijin replied that he was fine. After sending it, feeling it was a bit perfunctory, he added a meow meow meow sticker.
Mu Nian completely ignored him after that.
Realizing he had spent way too long on his phone, Bai Shijin turned off the screen.
After reading for another hour or so, a new WeChat notification popped up.
He checked it full of anticipation, but it wasn’t Mu Nian. It was his love rival, Ye Qinfan.
Ye Qinfan: [Shijin, where are you? I’ve been discharged from the hospital. Come back to the dorm, I have something to give you.]
