- Roommate Won't Spoil His Pretty Boyfriend? Fine, I'll Do It
- Chapter 1 - The One I Have a Secret Crush On Is My Roommate's Boyfriend
The autumn was bleak. The parasol trees were a sheet of golden yellow, and fallen leaves covered the ground.
Bai Shijin was alone in the dorm. Without the noisy chatter of his roommates, the dorm was exceptionally quiet, with only the sound of the wind blowing in from the balcony.
The sound of a key turning in the lock disturbed the peace. Accustomed to it, Bai Shijin casually flipped a page of his book without even turning his head.
Last month, Ye Qinfan had been shouting about moving in with his significant other, and he had already packed all his luggage. Yet now, he was moving it all back, completely untouched.
As soon as the dorm door closed, it was followed by the crashing sound of luggage hitting the floor, along with Ye Qinfan’s complaint, “Hmph, I finally managed to move over there, and it was all for nothing.”
Ye Qinfan was talkative and usually loved talking to himself in the dorm. Bai Shijin turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to this heavily negative remark, picking up his pen to jot down a reflection in the blank space of his book.
“If you had told me sooner that your so-called surprise was moving out of the dorm, I could have stopped you earlier and saved us the trouble of moving your luggage back and forth.”
A gentle and pleasant voice arose beside his ear. Bai Shijin’s writing hand paused, and the fountain pen tip left a blot of black ink on the page.
His entire body’s blood rushed to his head from the impact of this person’s voice. Bai Shijin almost thought he was experiencing auditory hallucinations due to missing someone too much.
Ye Qinfan’s complaint continued, “How could I tell you the surprise in advance? You really are ruthless, kicking me out without a moment of hesitation.”
“I don’t want to repeat the reason. While I have the time, I’ve helped you pack your things.”
The back-and-forth dialogue made Bai Shijin realize that it wasn’t just Ye Qinfan who had come in. He stiffly turned his head and saw Mu Nian wearing a gray overcoat at a glance.
More than half of Mu Nian’s handsome and refined face was covered by the scarf around his neck, leaving his beautiful eyes exposed, and the small mole on the tip of his nose dazzled Bai Shijin’s eyes.
He had imagined the scenario of meeting Mu Nian again. Perhaps on a starlit night, perhaps under the parasol trees swept by the autumn wind, or still in that post-rain setting.
However, imagination was just imagination after all. Mu Nian had appeared in his dorm abruptly and without any warning.
Ye Qinfan tossed his luggage aside and lazily sprawled on the hanging chair to play on his phone. Mu Nian meticulously and gently took the clothes out of the suitcase, folded them neatly, and put them away in the wardrobe. When he folded the third piece, he felt a burning gaze from behind and to his side.
He turned his head to look and met Bai Shijin’s eyes, locking gazes for three seconds.
Bai Shijin’s eyes embarrassedly darted away, his long, slender eyelashes covering half of his emotions.
“Qinfan, your roommate is here too. Why didn’t you say anything?”
Mu Nian hadn’t recognized him.
Bai Shijin’s eyebrows tightened slightly, and his gaze darkened.
Ye Qinfan snapped out of his phone screen and yawned, “He didn’t make a sound. The dorm is so big, I didn’t notice.”
Seeing that Ye Qinfan had no intention of introducing them, Mu Nian smiled faintly at Bai Shijin, “Sorry, classmate. Did I disturb you? I’ll be done packing and leave shortly.”
Bai Shijin shook his head to indicate it was fine, while his heart beat wildly with excitement.
Mu Nian didn’t notice Bai Shijin’s subtle changes in the slightest and continued folding clothes for Ye Qinfan.
Normally reticent and never one to initiate conversation with Ye Qinfan, Bai Shijin was now overwhelmingly curious about the relationship between Mu Nian and Ye Qinfan. Breaking all precedent, he asked, “Qinfan, who is this?”
Hearing Bai Shijin’s low-pitched voice, Ye Qinfan paused and replied very casually, “Oh, I forgot to introduce you. Mu Nian, my boyfriend.”
Bai Shijin’s heart skipped a beat.
He froze, and the book in his hand dropped to the floor with a thud, his mind instantly turning blank and empty.
“Classmate, are you okay?”
By the time Bai Shijin regained his senses, Mu Nian had picked up the book and was handing it to him.
Bai Shijin’s face turned ashen, and he softly muttered a thank you.
Ye Qinfan didn’t quite understand Bai Shijin’s exaggerated reaction and scoffed, “Is there any need to be this shocked? What era is it? There are quite a few homosexuals at our school.”
Bai Shijin explained pale-faced, “I’m not shocked.”
“Your face is whiter than the wall, and you’re saying you’re not shocked?” Ye Qinfan joked half-heartedly, “Don’t worry, even though you’re handsome, I won’t harbor any improper thoughts about you.”
Hearing this, Mu Nian looked over at Bai Shijin.
His complexion truly didn’t look very healthy, as if he had been struck by something.
Mu Nian shot Ye Qinfan a sideways glance and said, “Don’t make jokes like that.” Turning back to Bai Shijin, he added, “Classmate, don’t mind him. Qinfan means no harm.”
Bai Shijin’s soul felt detached from his body, and his brain buzzed loudly.
How could Mu Nian possibly be Ye Qinfan’s boyfriend?
He knew Ye Qinfan had a partner, but he had never imagined that Ye Qinfan’s partner would be male, let alone that it would happen to be Mu Nian.
It turned out that the intersecting line between him and Mu Nian was separated by just one Ye Qinfan.
Bai Shijin found breathing difficult. Not wanting Mu Nian to notice anything amiss, he pretended to continue reading his book.
As Ye Qinfan finished a game on his phone, Mu Nian finished organizing Ye Qinfan’s clothes. Noticing that the floor was a bit dirty, Mu Nian took the initiative to grab a broom and began sweeping, half-bent at the waist.
Bai Shijin stole glances at Mu Nian. The scarf around his neck was worn backward, with its long tassels trailing down his back, swaying with his movements.
Ye Qinfan remained indifferent seeing Mu Nian sweep, still completely engrossed in his phone.
At that moment, Bai Shijin’s chest felt as though a thorn had been pierced into it, feeling bizarre and distressing.
“Oh right, Niannian, transfer me some more money. I’m out of money for food.” Ye Qinfan finally paid attention to Mu Nian, only to ask him for money.
Mu Nian asked him, “What about the allowance your parents gave you?”
Without raising his head, Ye Qinfan replied, “How could the money they give be enough? It’s all gone after buying a few skin upgrades. If you don’t bail me out, your boyfriend is going to starve to death tomorrow.”
Mu Nian clearly sighed, took out his phone from his overcoat pocket, and a moment later, Ye Qinfan’s phone chimed with an alert: Alipay account received five thousand yuan.
Mu Nian exhorted, “Spend it frugally, eat your meals properly, and stop always pumping money into games.”
“Got it, got it,” Ye Qinfan brushed him off. Seeing that Mu Nian was about to leave, he added, “Niannian, take the trash down to the downstairs bin on your way. I won’t walk you out; I’m tired from moving luggage.”
“Okay.”
Mu Nian didn’t show a shred of reluctance, bending over to pick up the trash bag from the bin.
Bai Shijin stared at those slender, fair hands, feeling an inexplicable surge of anger in his heart.
Is this what a romantic relationship looks like?
Anyone who didn’t know better would think Ye Qinfan was Mu Nian’s son.
Unable to sit still any longer, Bai Shijin grabbed an umbrella he had hidden in his wardrobe for a long time, shoved it into his backpack, walked straight up to Mu Nian, and snatched the trash bag away. “I’ll take it. I’m heading downstairs anyway.”
By the time Mu Nian reacted, Bai Shijin had already left the dorm. Mu Nian called out a brief goodbye to Ye Qinfan, hurried out after him, and walked shoulder-to-shoulder with Bai Shijin.
“Thanks. Qinfan is a bit lazy; please bear with him as his roommate.”
Bai Shijin couldn’t describe his current feelings. Was he grieving because the person he liked had become someone else’s boyfriend, or because his perception of this person he liked had drastically changed in his heart?
Bai Shijin turned the corner to head down the stairs and asked, “Did he force you?”
Mu Nian raised his eyebrows in confusion, “What? Who forced me to do what?”
