Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 51 [End]
It was office hours, and there were still many staff members on the floor.
Witnessing the scene, some widened their eyes in disbelief, while others covered their mouths to suppress their gasps.
It was unclear whether they were shocked by Mo Li’s sudden return or by the relationship between the two women.
But Mo Li paid them no mind. She gently stroked Mo Wang’s long hair from top to bottom.
She had indeed lost a lot of weight.
The palm resting on her shoulder could clearly feel the sharpness of her collarbone.
Mo Li softly kissed the top of Mo Wang’s head. “Yes, I’m back.”
Mo Wang’s fingertips lightly brushed against her throat, a fleeting touch before withdrawing.
“Your vocal cords…”
Mo Li caught her retreating hand and pressed it against her own throat, letting her feel the subtle, real warmth and vibration beneath the skin.
With half-lowered eyes, she asked as if casually.
“Does it sound unpleasant?”
Mo Wang shook her head.
“A little sexy.”
“What a perfect answer.” Mo Li kissed the tip of her ear. “Then let’s test it out in bed tonight.”
As soon as these words were spoken, another wave of gasps echoed around them.
Only then did Mo Li snap out of the joy of their reunion. Mo Wang smiled knowingly, took her hand, and led her into the office.
Mo Li sat on the sofa, watching as Mo Wang closed the office partition and opened the window.
A fresh, cool breeze swept in.
Mo Li hesitated over how to broach the subject with Mo Wang.
But Mo Wang turned around and spoke first. “Why so quiet? Didn’t you come to take over the Mo family’s position?”
Her tone was light, even carrying a hint of laughter and relief.
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a glow on her profile. She looked radiant and beautiful, as if she had truly moved on from the past, from the scheming and struggles.
In the building beneath their feet, she had completely reconciled with the grudges of old.
Mo Li pondered for a moment.
“You… don’t mind?”
Mo Wang’s eyes curved into a smile. “What silly talk. You’re my wife. What’s yours is mine, and what’s mine is yours.”
Mo Li knew the real issue lay elsewhere. “But what about Mom and Dad…”
She knew that Mo Wang’s presence here was partly to confront Mo’s father and reclaim what she had worked so hard for.
Though Mo Wang never admitted it, Mo Li could see it.
She didn’t want to see Mo Wang give up her own ambitions for her sake.
Understanding her meaning, Mo Wang sat down beside her. “Let them be. I really don’t hold any grudges anymore.”
She let out a long, trembling sigh.
“I think I need a very, very long vacation, longer than any I’ve ever taken in my life.”
Her eyes reddened slightly. Mo Li had never realized she was so prone to tears.
“I don’t want to risk losing you again.”
“Before, I thought that if I couldn’t have you completely, I’d rather destroy you. So, I schemed and manipulated without restraint.”
She rested her head against Mo Li’s shoulder.
Through the fabric, Mo Li felt two damp spots slowly spreading.
“But it didn’t work. I was too greedy.”
Mo Wang’s fingers tightened on her shoulder, her breathing uneven from crying as she gasped softly. “Having you by my side is more than enough. Truly.”
Mo Li quietly patted her back, soothing her, whispering softly, “Don’t cry,” and “I’m here.”
She continued until Mo Wang’s breathing finally steadied.
Mo Li took her hand, the slender fingers already icy from being clenched too tightly.
Mo Li kissed the diamond ring on that hand.
Her voice was soft as she asked,
“After this long vacation, you’ll come back, right? As the official CEO.”
Mo Wang looked up with red-rimmed eyes and shook her head slightly: “I don’t want to.”
But Mo Li continued to persuade gently: “In these aspects, you’re much better than me.”
She understood that Mo Wang lacked a sense of security, always craving a dominant position.
Since Mo Wang needed it, she would fight tooth and nail to give it to her.
Mo Li sat up straight: “How about I become your personal secretary then? I can also be your personal driver and bodyguard.”
“Give me a chance, okay?”
Mo Li coaxed and persuaded.
Only then did Mo Wang nod.
As the two stood up to go home, the office door was suddenly slammed open.
Mo Father’s face appeared abruptly outside the door, his hairline graying as if he had aged ten years.
Seeing the two embracing, his expression was no longer one of shocked disgust, but rather a deep helplessness.
“You… if you’re alive, why didn’t you say something?”
Mo Li looked at the man before her, her feelings immensely complicated.
He had never been a good father, only a dictator who arrogantly wanted to control everything.
But now he had truly aged, too old to tear apart a pair of lovers, and too powerless to command respect or manage the company on his own.
That suited her just fine.
Mo Li lowered her eyes in thought.
“I was injured earlier,” she said lightly, glossing over it. “I can return to take over the Mo family affairs and serve as the public face.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Mo Father’s eyes lit up.
“But this is only temporary,” Mo Li shifted her tone. “I believe Miss Mo Wang is more suited for this position than I am. I will retire once the Mo family is firmly established.”
“What nonsense are you talking?” Mo Father grew anxious. “My child has just returned from the dead, and you’re already siding with outsiders? Do you still consider me your father?”
“From beginning to end, what you’ve been mourning is merely the loss of your only bloodline heir.”
Mo Li calmly struck at the heart of the matter: “If you don’t agree, then I simply won’t take over.”
“Both of you are unfilial children.” Mo Father turned his head, glanced at Mo Wang, and sighed helplessly. “It’s all a cursed fate.”
Mo Li said nothing.
Mo Father, however, conceded quickly: “You two… take care of yourselves.”
He left only those faint words behind before turning and walking away.
…
Mo Wang and Mo Li returned to their little nest. The impact of the incident on them was undeniably profound.
In her dreams, Mo Li would repeatedly relive the scene of falling, the weightlessness jolting her awake again and again.
Each time, after choosing to calm herself in the bathroom, she would return to the bedroom to find Mo Wang clutching the sheets tightly, her face pale as she stared at Mo Li in the doorway.
“I thought you weren’t here.”
She would say this every time.
But as time passed, they had adapted considerably.
Luo Licheng was also captured. Surprisingly, his tongue had been cut out, and his fingers had been brutally twisted and broken.
“That has Luo Liming’s signature all over it,” Mo Wang remarked. “He didn’t kill Luo Licheng, so it seems he’s let go of half his desire for revenge, focusing entirely on a brighter future.”
And on the day of the trial…
Luo Licheng faced multiple charges, his expression numb as he listened intently to each one.
Even his defense lawyer lacked sufficient materials and could only look helplessly at the judge.
It wasn’t until Luo Licheng heard one particular statement that his demeanor grew agitated.
“The victim, Li, had repeatedly provided covert financial support to the suspect, assisting him with funds.”
Luo Liming cast a cold glance at Luo Licheng as his defense lawyer continued, “Li’s goodwill, born of remorse, ultimately became the blade that turned against him.”
Perhaps finally sensing something amiss, Luo Licheng recalled the succession of suspiciously smooth business deals.
He wept and laughed in turns, unsure whether he was regretting his actions or mourning his fate.
The death penalty… without a doubt.
As for Luo Licheng’s passive attitude and refusal to defend himself, which consequently prevented Mo Wang from being implicated, Mo Li felt somewhat relieved.
For once, she slept soundly through the night.
When she awoke, Mo Wang’s fingers were intertwined with hers, and he was still fast asleep.
Familiar chirping sounds drifted in from outside the window.
Mo Li tiptoed over and gently drew back the curtain.
It was last year’s swallows, they had returned to build their nest. Unafraid of Mo Li, they flapped their wings against the window a few times, twigs in their beaks, and continued their grand project.
Hearing the noise, Mo Wang rubbed his eyes and walked over, wrapping his arms around Mo Li’s waist from behind.
She looked down.
The sky was bright, sunlight spilling generously over the earth, and clusters of cherry blossoms had already bloomed.
“Spring is here.”
Mo Li nodded. “Mm.”
“So, what’s for breakfast this morning?”
“Something with meat. Preferably fish congee or small wontons.”
In the living room, Tang Yuan leisurely licked his snow-white fur as a black cat leaped onto the railing.
The two exchanged a glance, and Tang Yuan let out a meow, as if in gratitude.
The black cat remained motionless, staring into the room, then flicked its tail, jumped off the balcony, and disappeared back into the shadows of the grass.
