Reincarnated In a Cthulhu World And Everyone Is Obsessed With Me - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Limbo – Goodnight, Miss Selena.
Swaths of flickering magnesium spotlights prowled the spectator stands like swimming serpents. The “lucky” soul to face Selena would be chosen by the light.
Xia Mingyu couldn’t see whose face the light had illuminated, but his right hand was already subtly twisting the top of his cane. He had consulted Gustav and tempered the cane into a scabbard, housing a longsword within.
The man in the floral shirt comforted him in a breezy tone, “Relax, there are nearly a thousand people here. One-in-a-thousand odds; it won’t be us.”
In his eyes, Xia Mingyu’s fingertips were trembling slightly.
The man felt even more pity, offering sincere advice: “Beauty, if it really comes to it, just cry and cough up blood on stage… Trust me, the people of the Ruin live for that kind of thing.”
Xia Mingyu chuckled, asking in earnest, “—You think I’m nervous?”
The man shrugged and didn’t answer.
Xia Mingyu’s trembling stemmed from the restlessness within his body. The lingering scent of blood on the arena floor made him inexplicably excited, as if he had returned to those twilight hours at the White Dove Academy, slaughtering freely outside the base—where killing was a feast, blood was nectar, and the dance of blades was a wild revelry.
This was clearly not normal. Xia Mingyu realized it, but for the first time, he didn’t instinctively resist it. He was maneuvering around himself. Calls from the void. The images reflected in his mind constantly flashed with the orbits of stars. A roaring ocean swallowed the parched land.
…His homeland. —He said.
…
The spotlight fell on Xia Mingyu’s bloodless face, as cold as fresh snow, emitting a chilling radiance. After a brief silence, the crowd erupted into a thunderous roar. Only the “lucky one” remained calm, showing no surprise.
Of course, Xia Mingyu wasn’t surprised. After Sea Amber gave the order, the high-priced Killer Queen suddenly found her “interest.” It was obvious who she was coming for.
Selena smiled and personally stepped down from the arena to help Xia Mingyu up. She whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Sister Amber said we should just play around, don’t take it too seriously.” Her eyes narrowed meaningfully. “But you’d better not disappoint me.”
Xia Mingyu asked absentmindedly, “If I win against you, can I get the grand prize?”
Selena laughed out loud. “Are you serious? With that suppressor on, can you really beat me?”
“It’s worth a try,” Xia Mingyu replied.
Selena glossed over the topic. “We’ll stop at the point of contact. So, let’s decide on a safety word.”
Xia Mingyu lowered his head slightly toward Selena. “Fine.”
“Then I choose—Sheikh. If I remember correctly, he’s your leader, isn’t he?”
Xia Mingyu paused. Hearing that name was like being struck by a bolt of electricity. But he maintained his bartender’s professional poise, keeping a graceful smile.
“Time to go up. And you?” Selena asked.
Xia Mingyu made a gesture of invitation. “A safety word? No, I don’t need one.”
…
To compensate for his blindness, Xia Mingyu activated his Mental Vision. His senses immediately plunged from noise into a boiling frenzy.
Selena stood at the other end of the arena, approaching step by step. Countdown—three, two, one. The long whip broke the air without hesitation.
Xia Mingyu was glad Selena had coiled her mental body around the whip; otherwise, he would have had to rely on his weakened five senses to predict her movements. The end of the whip hooked his cane, but with a flick of her wrist, Selena didn’t pull him closer; instead, she unsheathed his sword for him.
A black longsword with restrained radiance.
Xia Mingyu felt an indescribable “thirst.” A parched burning ignited from the deepest part of his soul. Whispers murmured: Wounds, blood, death… isn’t this what you crave?
Xia Mingyu moved fast, sword in hand, sweeping behind Selena. Their blades clashed, movements wide and bold.
Selena lashed her whip, sending mechanical “snake scales” flying like daggers. Xia Mingyu sprinted along the low walls. Finally, he stopped and caught the last scale between two fingers, crushing it into metal dust.
He counterattacked. Every strike of Xia Mingyu’s was aimed at vitals. A scale grazed Selena’s face, leaving it bloodied.
…
The Ruin felt the earth tremble again. The “Domain” of the Northern Base was likely collapsing. Xia Mingyu’s mental power was so closely linked to the Domain that his soul felt like it was decomposing in the vibration.
He fell into a deep delirium. He saw altars, the Dead Sea, and followers in yellow; he saw Sheikh touching the altar with gloved fingers.
In reality, Selena’s whip pierced Xia Mingyu’s abdomen. “How long are you going to stay on your knees?” she mocked.
As if he couldn’t feel the pain, Xia Mingyu stood up, leaning on his black sword. The whip pierced him again, but he caught the blade with his bare hand, blood soaking his left arm.
He activated his ability: Chaos Rules.
At this moment, Xia Mingyu was like a glamorous ghost draped in the night of a black hell. His black combat suit and long hair contrasted with his deathly pale skin.
Fear made Selena take a step back. Xia Mingyu stopped before her, whispering warmly, “Miss Selena, if you don’t say those two words now, it will be too late.”
In their final clash, Xia Mingyu calculated the position, letting the whip blade pierce deeply through Selena’s heart.
“Miss Selena’s blood is so warm,” Xia Mingyu smiled.
Selena collapsed in his arms, her voice raspy, “…Which one are you? The gentleman, or the madman?”
“And you, Miss Selena?” Xia Mingyu whispered. Then, he crushed every bone in her body. “That’s too soft… Goodnight, Miss Selena.”
In his hollow eye sockets, a golden phantom appeared—a pair of golden pupils containing all the malice of the apocalypse.
Just as he was about to lose himself to madness, the Sheikh in his delirium destroyed the altar, whispering, “Sleep…”
Xia Mingyu’s heart pounded, and his mind cleared. He fell to his knees, trapped in a pain as sharp as death itself.
“Tsk, you’re going to ruin the Shadow Guild’s reputation… What will happen if Sheikh finds out?”
The man in the floral shirt—Limbo—strolled onto the stage. He tilted Xia Mingyu’s chin, satisfied as he fastened new suppressors on his neck, wrists, and ankles.
Limbo wiped the blood from Xia’s face and kissed a lock of his hair. A corner of the handkerchief was embroidered with “LIMBO.”
He picked up the unconscious Xia Mingyu and hummed a light tune as he left the silent arena.
