- Reincarnated as a Sickly Princess, She was Kidnapped by the Evil Dragon Lady
- Chapter 4 - Spending Time with Isabella
As for the young maidservant, the one Illycia had previously knocked down, Illycia forgave her, knowing it hadn’t been intentional.
Impressed by the maid’s genuine desire to protect her safety, and drawn to her at first sight, Illycia decided to have her serve her exclusively.
After all, who could resist a timid yet adorable little maidservant?
*****
Over the past week, Illycia learned that the maid was just sixteen, much younger than herself, and came from a modest background, which had led her to work as a servant here.
“Princess… would you like anything else? I’ll fetch it for you.”
The young maidservant, noticing Illycia’s empty bowl of cherries, proactively offered to get her more food.
“No need, Xiaobai. I feel like taking a walk.”
When Illycia had asked for her name earlier, the maid had simply said, “You can call me Xiaobai.” Since then, Illycia had always referred to her as Xiaobai.
“Alright, I’ll go tell His Highness and the others,” Xiaobai said, preparing to leave.
To ensure Illycia’s well-being, her room was situated very close to Rodas’s and those of her siblings, all to prevent a recurrence of the earlier incident.
However, Xiaobai had barely taken two steps when Illycia grabbed her arm.
“No! Don’t tell Father.”
At Illycia’s plea, Xiaobai slowly turned back.
“We can go ourselves. Telling him will only make them worry again,” Illycia insisted, cheerfully pulling Xiaobai out of the room by the hand.
Yet less than ten minutes later, Xiaobai was supporting Illycia as they returned to her room.
“Princess, really! We could have just informed His Highness and had him arrange for someone to escort us. Why insist on going yourself when you’re so frail?” Xiaobai scolded gently, helping the panting Illycia back to her room. She finally settled Illycia on the edge of the bed, urging her to rest properly.
At that moment, Illycia collapsed backward, her face a mask of utter despair.
Yes, this was the reality of Illycia’s physical condition. Without protection, she could be overthrown by an ant…
“Aaaaaah! I still want to see the outside world! Hmph! Aaaaaah!”
After lying on the bed for a while, Illycia managed to recover from her exhaustion and began to grumble.
Meanwhile, Little White watched Illycia thrashing around on the bed, seemingly accustomed to her outbursts, and simply observed.
“Princess, please maintain your composure.”
“I can’t even leave this palace! Who am I supposed to maintain my composure for?! Ugh, this is infuriating!”
Illycia finished speaking, her frustration growing as she thought about her frail constitution. Finally, she buried her face in the pillow, burying her head like an ostrich.
The young maid beside her sighed silently at the sight.
She desperately wanted to help Illycia, but there was nothing she could do.
Even as a child, I had heard tales of a frail princess in the Roland Empire’s imperial palace, renowned as the empire’s foremost beauty. Her beauty was said to be unparalleled, her grace and elegance captivating, yet her delicate health and perpetual sorrow in her eyes drew countless hearts to her.
That person, of course, was Illycia.
It was even because of Illycia that many young women in the Roland Empire began emulating her, sparking a trend known as the “frail beauty” craze.
However, Illycia herself remained unaware of this phenomenon. While the outside world chased after the “frail beauty” aesthetic, she loathed her own cursed, sickly body.
For others, it might be an act, but her frailty was genuine.
“Little Illycia, grumbling again?”
Just as Illycia buried her face in her pillow, the sound of the door opening reached her ears, followed by a melodious female voice.
Illycia lifted her face from the pillow and glanced toward the doorway. A tall, stunningly beautiful woman with cascading golden waves leaned against the frame, her gaze softening as she watched Illycia, who had tangled the bedsheets into a chaotic mess during her fit of frustration.
“Second Sister, waaaah…”
Illycia looked up and, upon seeing it was her second sister, Isabella, her anger immediately transformed into a pitiful, aggrieved expression.
In the past week, Illycia had gone from being unfamiliar with her new body to shamelessly acting cute, completely devoid of any sense of embarrassment.
Seeing Illycia’s teary-eyed appearance, Isabella immediately rushed over and sat beside her.
“What’s wrong? Who made our little Illycia upset?” Isabella asked gently, placing her hand on Illycia’s head and stroking it with practiced tenderness.
Isabella’s actions were clearly well-rehearsed.
“Hehe… it’s nothing really…” Illycia said, her lingering negative emotions vanishing under Isabella’s soothing touch.
After all, being comforted by such a gentle, beautiful woman—especially with a head pat—was every man’s dream!
“Is it about your body again?” Isabella asked, her gaze piercing through Illycia’s facade.
“As expected, nothing escapes your keen eyes, Second Sister! Ha ha…” Illycia said with an awkward laugh, tacitly confirming Isabella’s suspicions.
Hearing Illycia’s words, Isabella smiled gently. “You’ve become quite playful now, completely different from before.”
“Really?” Illycia said, then climbed out of bed and sat on the edge. “So, Sister, do you prefer me now or before?” She tilted her head slightly, gazing at Isabella.
“I think the current Illycia is better than the old one. The old Illycia…” Isabella’s expression turned complex, and the words died on her lips.
“It’s alright. As long as you’re happy, as long as you’re being yourself, we’ll all love you.” Isabella smiled softly at Illycia, then reached out and gently stroked her hair, slowly tracing her fingers through the smooth strands as if savoring the long-missed sensation of touching Illycia.
“Fine, that’s a rather cunning answer, Sister,” Illycia said with a hint of resentment, shaking her head to dislodge Isabella’s hand. “Then tell me about what I was like before?”
