- Chapter 21 - The Magic Array Shatters
Illycia breathed a sigh of relief when Aria didn’t press further about her lack of appetite. The truth was, Illycia had simply forgotten to eat due to the overwhelming discomfort she had been experiencing earlier, her head still feeling dizzy and muddled.
Soon after, Aria and Illycia wandered around for a while and found a small inn suitable for lodging.
Upon entering, Aria strode directly to the front desk and addressed the young Dwarf girl behind it, “Hello, two guests.”
“Alright, how many rooms would you like?” the Dwarf girl replied, glancing briefly at the two striking beauties before lowering her head to begin registering them.
Aria paused to consider. “One room, preferably a double room, the best one…”
“Very well.”
Aria paid the fee and led Illycia to their designated room.
Throughout this exchange, Illycia remained mostly silent, her mind preoccupied with other matters.
Earlier, Aria had mentioned that she was the only Dragon who had been able to freely enter and exit the world for millennia, thanks to her unique abilities. But who, then, accounted for the numerous Dragon appearances recorded throughout Human history?
Could they all have been Aria?
This question burned in Illycia’s mind, fueling her curiosity.
“Oh, by the way, how old are you?” Illycia asked curiously as she entered the room, looking up at the towering Aria.
“I don’t know. I don’t remember,” Aria replied, her tone dismissive, clearly not wanting to answer.
“Alright,” Illycia said, sensing Aria’s reluctance. She wasn’t one to push when someone didn’t want to talk.
It seems Aria has some kind of embarrassing secret about her age, Illycia thought. But I’ll never guess what it is. Besides, I’m getting sleepy.
“Two beds. Take whichever one you want. You stay here, I’ll go check things out and be back later,” Aria said, already heading for the door.
“What are you going to check?” Illycia asked.
“Just checking.”
With that, Aria closed the door and left, leaving Illycia alone in the room.
Seeing Aria’s evasiveness, Illycia couldn’t help but pout, a hint of annoyance creeping into her expression.
“Tch, typical Dragon Queen, always so busy…” she muttered, then yawned involuntarily from exhaustion and shuffled back to the bed.
“Then I’ll just go to sleep…” Illycia murmured, collapsing onto the edge of the bed and drifting off instantly.
It had to be said that Illycia’s frail body did have its advantages. Whenever she was tired or sleepy, she could fall asleep immediately, without any worries about insomnia.
But this time, Illycia felt herself falling asleep faster than usual, as if she had been knocked out.
Not long after, Aria returned to find Illycia already sound asleep on the bed, without even a blanket.
Seeing this, Aria quietly approached and carefully tucked the blanket around Illycia.
Having learned about Illycia’s delicate health, Aria knew that sleeping without a blanket all night would inevitably lead to illness the next day.
If Illycia fell ill, their plans to reach the Roland Empire quickly would be dashed. They’d have to wait for her to recover first.
So, to save time and avoid complications, Aria took the initiative to help—not for any other reason, of course.
However, as Aria tucked the blanket around Illycia, her hand accidentally brushed against Illycia’s arm.
At that moment, Aria suddenly felt a tremor run through her body, and her gaze toward Illycia immediately turned grave.
When Aria had touched Illycia’s arm, she had sensed the life force within Illycia’s body draining away at an alarming rate—a phenomenon so bizarre that Aria was initially stunned, wondering if she had misread the signs.
She quickly placed her hand on Illycia again, focusing her senses. After a moment of intense concentration, Aria realized she hadn’t been mistaken.
Her expression darkened as she began to ponder the cause of Illycia’s rapidly diminishing life force.
At this rate, Illycia might not survive the night, her life force completely depleted.
“What’s going on…?”
Even Aria, the Dragon Queen, with her vast knowledge and experience, was baffled by this sudden, inexplicable turn of events.
Illycia had been perfectly fine just moments ago. How could she have deteriorated so drastically in such a short time?
Aria channeled her Spiritual Sense deeper into Illycia’s body, determined to uncover the source of this life force drain.
After searching for what seemed like an eternity, Aria finally discovered the source of Illycia’s life force drain.
Aria had been probing Illycia’s body for hours when she stumbled upon an incredibly mysterious Magic Array. This array, originally meant to seal something, had inexplicably developed a massive breach.
“Is this it?” Aria murmured, feeling as if Illycia was an enigma she couldn’t unravel.
Fortunately, Aria managed to recall records in her memory that matched the array’s description.
Yet she remained deeply puzzled. Why would such an array be embedded within Illycia’s body? Such a construct would place an immense burden on its host.
The array’s function was to completely suppress the flow of magical energy, rendering it impervious to all external effects.
With this understanding, Aria quickly grasped why Illycia bore such an array.
She had previously sensed that Illycia possessed the Anti-Magic Physique, a condition that typically doomed its bearers to a lifespan of no more than sixteen years.
Illycia had survived this long because someone had placed a Magic Array within her body to seal her Anti-Magic Physique. This extended her lifespan and, as a consequence, rendered the Anti-Magic Physique ineffective.
However, due to unknown reasons, the Magic Array had been damaged, leading to her current condition.
Aria had previously probed Illycia’s body and speculated that her frailty might stem from the Anti-Magic Physique. Now, it seemed her weakness was actually a side effect of the Magic Array.
With this, Aria finally unraveled the mystery surrounding Illycia.
Following her memory, Aria meticulously repaired the Magic Array within Illycia’s body, eventually restoring it to its original, complete state.
Having finished, Aria opened her eyes and gazed at the now-healthy Illycia before her.
At that moment, Aria felt an inexplicable pity for the Human Race girl before her.
She must have been confined to her home all this time due to the Magic Array’s effects on her body, preventing her from venturing out.
Yet, without this Magic Array, Aria would never have met the Human Race girl standing before her.
