- Chapter 96 - A Deeply Emotional Scene
This is a building near the filming location, outside of which several maple trees are planted. The branches of the maple trees are neatly trimmed. Since it is autumn, the leaves of the maple trees have begun to turn yellow and red, making for a spectacular view.
This place is sparsely populated because the nearby houses, including those in the back, are merely cardboard structures set up by the film studio. The section in the front used for filming is beautifully constructed, but the areas behind it have not been well-maintained, essentially remaining in a state of rough construction.
“Let’s rehearse the scene we’re shooting today.”
Filming is not done sequentially according to the episode order of the TV series. Instead, scenes are shot as much as possible at suitable locations and settings to maximize efficiency.
For example, for an artificial rain scene, simply setting up the canopy and preparing the water spray guns takes a considerable amount of time.
Therefore, it is most cost-effective to coordinate the actors’ schedules and shoot multiple rain scenes from the series all at once.
Although this is a movie, which has some differences, the process is generally similar.
Today is a sunny day, which places few restrictions on the filming location. So, the director has scheduled several scenes involving conversations with Li Hai.
In the script, the female lead and the character played by Li Hai have known each other for a long time, and their relationship has been good since childhood.
Unfortunately, they never had the chance to define their feelings.
Although the female lead treats Li Hai as a friend, he does not feel the same way, regarding her as his soulmate. Even when forced to marry and have children due to family pressure, he never forgot her.
Song Qingxing initially thought that Xie Jingcheng would readily agree to rehearse, as playing the role of the third male lead should be second nature to an actress of her caliber.
However, Xie Jingcheng shook her head.
“I haven’t really looked at Li Hai’s script. Anyway, Qingxing, you’re only rehearsing this time to get into the female lead’s mindset. How about I play the role I’m used to instead, and we can run the lines that way? What do you think, Qingxing?”
In reality, how could she not remember the third male lead’s script?
When Xie Jingcheng first debuted, although her family was wealthy and influential, and the director wouldn’t dare say anything, many people still questioned her acting ability. That’s why she used to memorize the scripts of all the roles.
This helped her fully grasp and experience the protagonist’s specific emotions at a certain moment.
This movie’s current shoot isn’t too far removed from the previous one, so Xie Jingcheng can remember all the plot details. Even if she forgets some parts, a quick glance at the script would bring them back.
Yet, she deliberately chose to lie.
Why?
Song Qingxing couldn’t possibly understand or guess the reason. After thinking for a moment, she felt it made sense; it would be too difficult now to have Xie Jingcheng immerse herself in the third male lead’s character.
It might be better to let her play the familiar role to help herself get into character.
“It’s a bit much to ask you to help me get into character so suddenly. Your suggestion isn’t bad.”
Song Qingxing could only flip through the script, find a dialogue exchange between the two characters, and was about to hand the script over to the person who had joined the crew but hadn’t even touched a script yet.
Facing this situation, Xie Jingcheng merely shook her head.
“I still remember the movie we shot not long ago. I don’t need to look at the script.”
Immediately after, she reached out and pressed down on the script, stepping closer to Song Qingxing. She seemed to have entered the character, her originally gentle eyes turning sharp.
“You say I’m wrong, Yun Qing. You’re completely joking!”
Song Qingxing took a moment to realize that this was a scene in the movie where the characters were arguing.
While using an argument to help get into the character’s emotional state is quite effective, she vaguely recalled that this particular scene was followed by a passionate scene.
Xie Jingcheng’s eyes trembled slightly, and her entire demeanor became defeated, truly resembling the decadent female secondary character in the movie who needed saving.
“Why would you think it’s a joke? Surviving by stealing isn’t the life you want, is it? Do you want to keep living like a cockroach under the moonlight instead of a normal life bathed in sunlight?”
Song Qingxing continued the dialogue, thankful that she had reviewed the script extensively, otherwise, she might not have been able to keep up with the line.
Compared to Xie Jingcheng’s compelling acting, Song Qingxing was slightly inferior, and her emotions weren’t quite there, but she still tried hard to immerse herself in the protagonist’s mindset.
“We are not on the same path. If you want to be an idealist, turn left and leave. I won’t see you out.”
Xie Jingcheng positioned her fingers as if holding a cigarette, but unfortunately, she had no prop, so she could only pretend to smoke. Even so, her performance was incredibly realistic.
The two had been together for so long that Song Qingxing knew Xie Jingcheng didn’t have a smoking habit.
But this posture of a seasoned smoker… well, she truly deserved to be a Best Actress!
Song Qingxing paused for a moment before remembering her line. She stepped forward and grabbed Xie Jingcheng’s collar.
She sniffled, forcing tears to well up.
Her makeup couldn’t be ruined by crying, so the tears only glistened in her eyes, making her look even more pitiful, like a teary-eyed little rabbit.
“You know I only care about you. I want you to be better, to stop doing these things…”
Xie Jingcheng pulled Song Qingxing into her arms, her hand gripping Song Qingxing’s waist. This posture was dominating yet full of disdain.
After all, the female secondary character in the movie was an ill-tempered person, and if Xie Jingcheng wanted to play the role well, she had to discard all her obvious traits, such as gentleness and decorum.
“Is that so? But how do you prove it?”
Xie Jingcheng parted her red lips, her tone contemptuous. She had almost fully entered the role, but only at this moment did Song Qingxing sense that something was wrong.
Aha!
It turned out Xie Jingcheng was calculating and setting her up.
Because this scene involves a kissing scene!
Although Song Qingxing’s mind was racing, she refused to back down and continued with her line.
“If you don’t believe me, I’ll prove it to you.”
With that, she cupped Xie Jingcheng’s cheeks and stood on her tiptoes. Her shirt was slightly short, pulling up and exposing a sliver of her fair abdomen.
A hint of a smile flickered in Xie Jingcheng’s eyes, like a fox that had stolen a taste of something forbidden. It seemed that occasionally tricking Song Qingxing was quite effective.
But just as their lips were about to meet, someone slammed on the brakes.
Xie Jingcheng waited for a moment but got no reaction. Just as she was wondering why, her cheek was firmly poked.
“Fine, you schemed against me.”
Song Qingxing pursed her lips, clearly having fully realized the other person’s trick at this moment.
“How can you call this scheming?”
Xie Jingcheng just smiled.
“Since we’re rehearsing, we should be serious. Qingxing , you’re not being serious.”
Song Qingxing felt a little speechless, thinking to herself, It’s just a kissing scene, what’s the big deal?
Who’s afraid of whom?
I can always touch up my makeup later!
So, she actively cupped the other person’s face, took a deep breath to prevent running out of air later, and fiercely kissed her. Compared to the lingering, tender kiss in the script, Song Qingxing kiss was laced with a sense of revenge.
She was like a wild cat that, even when petted, retains its untamable wildness—its sharp teeth biting down on a wrist, causing a stinging pain to the skin, yet stopping short of breaking the skin.
The control was truly impeccable.
