However, preparing a gift still required careful planning, as she had virtually no time while filming every day.
But the film crew always ran into unexpected situations.
For instance, the camera suddenly broke on this particular day. The camera lens was worth several million, and the entire crew was on high alert. Upon inspection, they found it wasn’t a major issue, but sending it for repair would still take several hours.
So, the crew was given a half-day off.
Song Qingxing felt a surge of anticipation. This half-day break was perfect for cooking.
She had been trying for the past few weeks, but always in secret to avoid detection.
Although Xie Jingcheng was attached to her, she occasionally had real work to do and wasn’t with her twenty-four hours a day.
Song Qingxing had specifically rented an apartment with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, and Yu Zhi became the best taste-tester.
After a fortnight of this, Yu Zhi’s waistline had expanded by a size.
Initially, Yu Zhi was prepared to rush to the hospital for food poisoning, given the precedent set by Song Qingxing’s teammate.
But when she tasted the first bite, she was surprised. Although the fish wasn’t exceptionally delicious, it wasn’t bad either; she could eat a bowl of it with rice.
Yu Zhi immediately changed her opinion of Song Qingxing. Indeed, one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
Moreover, she could offer Song Qingxing suggestions for improvement with every dish.
Although Yu Zhi really wanted to complain: Song Qingxing wasn’t supposed to be someone’s lover? Why did she need to behave as if she were seriously pursuing someone?
But she didn’t dare question her boss. Whatever the boss said, went.
Thus, Song Qingxing continuously improved her skills based on recipes and Yu Zhi’s suggestions, finally achieving something resembling culinary ability.
With time today, Song Qingxing deliberately found an excuse to send Xie Jingcheng away. What was the excuse?
Simply asking her to talk to her manager about turning down a few scripts she didn’t want to act in.
“If you really find it annoying, you could actually switch agencies.”
Xie Jingcheng sat in the car, her long hair draped over her shoulders. Perhaps it was the “old tree blossoming,” but her entire spirit and demeanor were different; her complexion was rosy.
It was unlike the slightly sickly paleness she had before.
So, falling in love really does make a person radiant, Song Qingxing couldn’t help but think to herself, but at the same time, she rejected Xie Jingcheng’s suggestion.
“I signed the contract myself back then, and I must take responsibility for it. If I switch agencies now, I’d have to pay an astronomical breach of contract fee. That’s not worth it.”
She still wanted to quietly stick it out until the contract expired. Anyway, there weren’t many years left until her contract ended.
Even if the company was unhappy then, there would be nothing they could do.
“Please, just talk to my manager for me, okay?”
Song Qingxing climbed over, leaning her head on Xie Jingcheng’s soft lap like a kitten. She rubbed against her lightly, as if cuddling.
Her heart was pounding rapidly.
Xie Jingcheng truly couldn’t resist a beautiful woman cuddling up to her like a cat.
But she didn’t stop her. Instead, she couldn’t help but curve her lips, silently savoring the moment.
“Okay, I’ll contact your manager.”
Xie Jingcheng planned to take a video conference, but sometimes she used language that was too harsh, so she didn’t want Song Qingxing to hear it.
She subconsciously decided to make the call elsewhere.
“Then you should head back to the hotel first.”
“Mmm.”
The two parted ways. Song Qingxing didn’t ask why, because she understood that the conversation between Xie Jingcheng and the manager probably involved a lot of dark insider secrets she shouldn’t hear.
Instead, she happily had the driver go to the hotel’s location first, and then turn the car around to the apartment she rented, which was not far from the hotel.
Song Qingxing suddenly felt that this was a bit too troublesome, but a surprise is a surprise precisely because it needs to be unexpected.
She hadn’t just learned one dish these past few days; she had learned more than ten, and all of them were quite presentable.
While Yu Zhi was still afraid of oil splatters, Song Qingxing was already bold enough to proceed with the next step of stir-frying, facing the sizzling oil.
It was truly admirable.
After finishing the dishes, Song Qingxing looked at them with satisfaction and then tentatively called Xie Jingcheng.
Xie Jingcheng answered. Behind her was a private room, with a bookshelf nearby. Song Qingxing didn’t know which place she was at.
“I’ve talked to your manager. He won’t force you to act anymore.”
Xie Jingcheng smiled brightly, secretly hoping that after fulfilling such a desire for her little bunny, she might receive some reward.
“Really?”
Song Qingxing had only used it as a casual excuse to send her away and hadn’t been 100% hopeful, but she never expected Xie Jingcheng to actually accomplish it for her.
“Could I lie to you?”
Xie Jingcheng sounded a little helpless. This sort of thing was no trouble for her; it was just a matter of threatening a manager. She could even deal with that arrogant second-generation male lead.
“That’s great! I’ll come pick you up in a bit.”
Song Qingxing excitedly asked her to send over her location, and then she and the driver went to pick her up.
Xie Jingcheng stepped out of the private room, the hot air washing over her face. She didn’t wait long before she saw someone jump out of the car.
“Let’s go.”
Song Qingxing smiled brightly. Xie Jingcheng nodded and followed. They didn’t talk much in the car.
Xie Jingcheng was secretly anticipating how the little bunny would compensate her, but actually, it wouldn’t matter if she didn’t; it was something she should do.
Yet, she didn’t know what Song Qingxing was planning.
The dishes shouldn’t get cold rushing over this short distance, right?
Though they could be reheated in a microwave if they did, they definitely wouldn’t taste as good as when they were freshly made.
On the way there, Song Qingxing had instructed the driver to hurry, but in the city center, they couldn’t go fast. After just a few minutes, they hit a traffic light at an intersection that seemed to take forever.
The van pulled up below the apartment building.
Xie Jingcheng had sensed something was off a while ago and glanced at the building.
“Why did you bring me here?”
They were both used to staying in hotels, so why the sudden move to an apartment?
Generally, celebrities stayed in hotels while filming because hotels offered good service, regular cleaning, and spacious rooms.
Staying for a month or two wasn’t particularly expensive for a celebrity.
But renting an apartment was more troublesome; it required signing contracts, was highly likely to expose them, and didn’t include cleaning staff.
Usually, no one would choose to rent an apartment.
“I have a surprise for you.”
Song Qingxing simply smiled, pulling her out of the car and leading her toward the apartment.
Seeing how familiar the little bunny was with the route, she must have been here a dozen times. Xie Jingcheng narrowed her eyes, a hint of bitterness welling up inside her.
If she were hiding a lover or a young gigolo here, how long would it take me to find out?
She tightly squeezed her palm, reminding herself:
No! I can’t think that way. I can’t think so poorly of her.
