- Chapter 71 - You Are as Bright as a Rose
The director, in fact, had guessed wrong. Had Song Qingxing not endured the utterly wretched life of her past, she likely wouldn’t be so compliant and reformed today.
At her core, she still carried a certain proud nature.
The restructuring of the film crew meant two days of rest, which everyone welcomed after many days of intense work.
Xie Jingcheng finally had the time to take her to the greenhouse they had planned to visit from the beginning.
Many areas of the greenhouse were not open to the public, unless, of course, one possessed “cash power.”
The car climbed the winding mountain road. Song Qingxing felt a little carsick, so she had to roll down the window. The wind blowing across her cheeks carried away the dull dizziness, and it lifted her hair ends.
The soft strands brushed against Xie Jingcheng’s cheek, bringing a ticklish sensation. The tickle was not just on her face; it seemed to reach her heart as well.
“The scenery here is really nice. I’ve filmed in this city a few times before, but I’ve never seen anything like this.” Song Qingxing remarked with a touch of emotion.
Xie Jingcheng leaned closer, resting her chin on Song Qingxing’s shoulder to look at the view.
“Xie Jingcheng, don’t you have a window on your side?”
Song Qingxing was speechless. Why did this person have to cling to her all the time? Not all cars had a privacy partition to separate them from the driver. And constantly using the partition was too obvious and intimate; the driver would surely know what kind of messy business they were up to.
“I can only see the foot of the mountain from my side.”
Song Qingxing was even more exasperated.
“But there’s nothing special about the rocky mountain path on my side! Shouldn’t the view down the mountain be better?”
“Some scenery is only beautiful when viewed with someone.”
Xie Jingcheng reluctantly spoke the truth. Why was the little rabbit sometimes so clueless about romance? However, she was quite good at comforting people in bed, so she would forgive her for this minor oversight.
“Oh, come on. Doesn’t the seatbelt feel tight?”
Song Qingxing didn’t carry the usual airs of a celebrity; her tone held a hint of playful teasing. Since her fall from grace, her speech and behavior had become much more like that of an ordinary person. Xie Jingcheng, however, preferred this straightforward side of her.
Since the little rabbit didn’t like being squeezed, Xie Jingcheng didn’t insist.
The cool breeze filled the car. Xie Jingcheng simply narrowed her eyes and enjoyed it, inhaling the faint scent of milk from her hair ends. Her heart was filled with anticipation for this date.
She had never dated before. With her good family background and beautiful looks, she naturally had many suitors. The reason she hadn’t dated was simple: she hadn’t met anyone she liked. Now that she was finally experiencing this feeling, she was naturally excited and nervous.
After a short drive, the car arrived at the greenhouse. There were quite a few buildings on the mountaintop, which was flat enough to host a small town, and the greenhouse was in the center of it.
What met their eyes was a giant circular glass structure. Song Qingxing noticed quite a crowd at the entrance; it seemed beautiful places were never short of admirers.
To avoid being recognized, both of them wore masks and hats.
They entered after their tickets were checked.
Xie Jingcheng handed over her ticket, which was different from a regular tourist’s.
The ticket inspector glanced at her. Recognizing her as a donor who had the right to view the latest cultivated flowers, the inspector nodded and had a staff member lead the two inside.
“Thank you.” Xie Jingcheng was very polite to the staff member leading the way.
The staff member smiled and shook her head. “If it weren’t for you, Boss Xie, we wouldn’t have such excellent new equipment.”
Hearing this, Song Qingxing knew Xie Jingcheng had played the fool again, hence the special access to see the flowers.
But… the feeling of someone playing the fool for her was hard to describe.
Song Qingxing felt a secret delight.
She never thought she would marry into a wealthy family anyway, so spending her sugar daddy’s money was a win. Besides, she got visual enjoyment, and the greenhouse researchers received funding. It was a win-win.
The staff first took them through the ordinary greenhouse on the first floor, where tropical plants were cultivated.
The flowers bloomed vividly.
There were also some venomous snakes and scorpions inside, making the children cry out in awe.
Song Qingxing only watched from a distance. Her gaze swept over a pond where several small water lilies bloomed, and a few brightly colored frogs perched on top of the lilies. She knew without a doubt that these frogs were extremely poisonous.
“Poison dart frogs. They just look pretty.” Xie Jingcheng squinted. These highly venomous creatures had attracted many people’s attention, but they were dangerous nonetheless.
Song Qingxing had only seen them in textbooks, and seeing them in person felt magical. These dart frogs were tiny but their colors were striking.
She had initially thought the date was just to humor Xie Jingcheng, but Song Qingxing genuinely found her horizons broadened on the first floor alone.
After touring the first floor, the two headed to the restricted area of the greenhouse, which housed rare species. Elegant orchids quietly bloomed. Further inside, they saw gorgeous roses.
These roses were covered with glass domes, reminding one of the rose in Beauty and the Beast.
Song Qingxing couldn’t help but reach out to touch the dome, though she only dared to tap it lightly.
“It’s fine, the roses aren’t that fragile. We just keep them covered to prevent any accidents,” the staff member explained patiently, then removed the dome directly. A rich floral scent wafted out. Song Qingxing lowered her head and gently inhaled, feeling refreshed.
“Do you like them?” Xie Jingcheng asked her.
“Of course. Thank you for bringing me here.” This time, Song Qingxing’s thanks were sincere. She had seen so many flowers that day: roses, jasmine, and tulips—all rare varieties with incredibly rich fragrances.
Song Qingxing felt her girlish heart was completely satisfied in one go.
After the tour, she felt as if she was covered in the scent of pollen. The feeling was akin to a flirtatious playboy returning from a brothel.
But only akin.
Song Qingxing took a photo in the greenhouse. The sun was just right, shining on her black hair, making her look gentle and graceful.
Just as she was about to upload it to Weibo, Song Qingxing discovered something awful. Her Weibo had exploded again; her direct messages were about to burst. Although she usually didn’t check them, the constant tagging made it impossible to ignore.
Song Qingxing’s fingers trembled as she clicked on the trending topic.
She found a photo—a terribly blurry one—but a small cropped image, when enlarged, clearly showed her chin and Xie Jingcheng’s profile. There was no helping it; Xie Jingcheng’s profile was too distinctive. Her features were so deep-set and three-dimensional, like a foreigner’s, making her easy to identify.
The photo looked exactly like the two of them were kissing.
However, Song Qingxing quickly scanned all her memories of kissing and was certain she wasn’t bold enough to kiss outside a hotel.
Therefore, it had to be an illusion created by the angle.
